just curious did you read Island ?
Yess it’s the best !!
No I, didnt read it yet. But I thought it is the "counterpart" to brave new world right, a utopian novel?
Yeah it is
It’s also Huxley’s last work, his “final thoughts” if you will
I personally loved this book
Thanks for the recommendation, I added it to my reading list
Introduction To The Philosophy Of Science by Mohamed Abed Al-Jabri
you know when you are struggling with science and why things don't work for you this book will help to be a beast in science it will improve you at least by 100%
try agatha christie books its detective/psychological horror like sherlock holmes but darker
guys
has anyone read 'I Am Malala'?
how did malala lose her innocence throughout the book?
@main nexus @kindred isle
Anyone here read Educated by Tara Westover? Want to know ur opinions:)
I’ve read that before, she basically talks about her own personal experiences in her home country I read halfway through the book so idk about the innocence part
I read it. I thought it was good how she checked in with different people to get their recollection of the events. Some of it seems too outrageous to be real though so just try to enjoy it.
ikr? some of the scenes and circumstances were too questionable? after I finished reading it I had to googled it lol
but I enjoyed it, so no complainin
You guys read atomic habits? I just recently start to read it
anyone have recommendationts where to start reading history? (or different subjects, studying in general)
ppl say that sapiens is a good book for starters
I’ve a qs, colleen hoover books r in series/order? Or I can chose whatever I want?
None of her books are in order but I don't recommend any of her books. Also she's not a very good person either. Massive trigger warning for a majority of her books, they contain: sexual and physical assult, death, eating disorders, etc. Also her books are very predictable and not worth your time. But then again you can read them and be the judge on that matter.
hey! can anyone recommend some books about finding meaning/purpose in life (i don't mind if they're fiction!) I'm writing a story for my english assignment, and it's a dystopia about the oppression of man's search for meaning (but i'm also in a bit of a rut, so i'd like to hit two birds with one stone haha!) ^^ thanks!!! 😊 🧡
Jeeezzz, I didn’t know that!! I mean someone mentioned it about to me but then the rating of that book + most selling. And I’ve no experience with love books. This is my first time reading it actually 😂😂💀💀
I would say 1984 by George Orwell. Idk if the description for that books really matches but it's dystopia and man kind of navigating his way through life.
that was actually one of my required readings lol! it's a really good dystopian text! thanks for the help !! ^-^ <3
agreed. i read one of her book because of the hype only and I regret. just not worth your time if you not familiar with young adult-romance-betrayal type of story. my first time tho so i guess i just shocked
It ends with us
Lol it was so bad
Exactly lol I regret
Same idk what people like about it
Overrated shi-
please do not read colleen hoover especially if it's your first time reading romance, the writing is mediocre, plot mediocre, characters worse than mediocre. I would recommend you to read another book in the romance genre firstly, you can read colleen hoover's book anytime and judge the book yourself but please dont let it be your first romance genre book.
hello, does anyone have 48 laws of power spanish version?
Y'all have any recommendations for fiction with the theme of finding hope /slice of life (not sad tho) which I could gift to a person in their 50s?
Any recommendations for psychological horror?
Thank you, I'll give it a read.
do not do not do not read colleen hoover as your first book, there are plenty other which are so much better, eg pride and prejudice
Yep, the amount of hates ppl r telling me on discord is massive, they r like don’t start romance book with Colleen Hoover. But then now I’m soo clueless:/
Someone recommended me “hunting Adeline”. I read the first chapter and didn’t understand anything 🫤🫤🫤 is love books r confusing or is it just me who can’t understand 😭
Oh my god don't read it without reading trigger warnings please
Go for a lighter one
Hunting adeline is VERY DARK
Yea the first page said about that😂😂
💀💀💀 then how is it love?
pride and prejudice is a classic is beautiful
Hahaha some people like reading dark stuff . I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I was in that phase too....lol
💀
Is it like Shakespeare love type?💀💀😂 or gen Z love?
What is dark love? 😬
not genz fs
ohhh its a classic love 💀
yes but it's timeless
wdym by timeless?
like it's evergreen
interesting, hows "Love Hypothesis"?
i haven't read it
People are into "ugly love" a lot too
it ends with us is better than ugly love in my opinion but better not to read either, also if you want some good romance genre book i can suggest you some.
yes pls, im so clueless. im literally just asking for recommendations rn
Kidnapping....mafia stuff lmao I'm hella embarrassed now
i mean thats sick 👀 wont mind reading it but how love and romance???
Ok you could start with "the maddest obsession" I read it 4years ago when I used to read that stuff
And for lighter stuff kulti by mariana zapata could be a good start
It ends with us is nice tbh but it is NOT A ROMANCE BOOK
It depicts domestic violence and how hard it is getting out of it
genre is "Contemporary romance". Whats that?
Real life stuff. Like normal stories which happens in real life
Not including fantasy or
Other stuff which doesn't happen in real life
daamm and its soo publicized, i mean so many ppl r reading it and the rating is soo high tho 💀
aaahhh sounds super dope
Ikr the author wrote it from her own domestic violence experience and the way it was marketed ...depicting it as a romance book is gross
Also I read a revenge crime thriller series a while ago which also has a bit of a romance in it
You could read it ...it's called mindfuck series (check TWs)
tbh, ik myself. i cant read these types of books. I'll end up quitting it🥲 until or unless its have plot twist and intense storyline
It has none of those
you can read
(a) the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo (this one has twists and turns so it'll be interesting)
(b) Song of Achilles (it's of Greek mythology and is kinda slow in the beginning tho)
ohhh yea i heard of it, hows it?
Amazing . The story made me cry so much
ouch! thats painful 😂
W recommendations
fr mindfuck series has a great plot but please read the trigger warnings first
heard of "the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo" but ppl said its too long
ig it is but it wasn't boring for me so i read it
alr, then 2 books in my bucket list then "the maddest obsession" and "the seven husbands of evelyn hugo". I hope i dont quite middle of it😂
not an avid reader, gonna take a bit long to read 😭
yeah the main problem i have with that book is how it's being marketed as romance when it's not
Hello! Has anyone read anything by Robert Heinlein? I've read several books and was wondering what do people think about him, maybe even find someone who'd discuss those books with me 😳
Wow, I wasn't expecting the book to be this level of disturbing. It's a good read so far.
"Vanishing Half"
need a book with a good story no matter how long it is
A Song of Ice and Fire
i'm currently reading it but thx
this better
just finished reading Six of Crows <3
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5391693640?book_show_action=false
5/5: (I apologise in advance for I will be unleashing my inner and very much present teenager in the review below) Leigh Bardugo, you absolute beast of a writer, I love you. This book was everything I wanted AND MORE. Six of Crows was such a ride honestly. Intricate plot that flowed seamlessly and was actually comprehendible unlike some fantas...
what is the plot
It’s basically a heist inspired fantasy that’s based in a fictional version of I think 18th century Amsterdam.
I’d recommend if you like the found family trope and books with thrilling plot lines!
i will check it thx
Just finished reading tender in the flesh (which was great). Looking for any other recommendations.
deep work is so boring but i'll still read it.. it has stories about gr8 ppl only
Its worth it honestly
Went through the same thing w it
Its a 4/5 for me
I have been a big time non-fiction reader just started with some classic fictions.
Can someone recommend me some good fictional books perhaps something dark academia?
( P.S I have read Greek mythology fictional books )
picture of dorian gray W
to kill a mockingbird carmilla
haven't read much either tho
Appreciate your recommendation!
yeah also, metamorphosis is a cool read and crime and punishment & war and peace!!
try Iliad and the Odyssey they are two books connected to each other the first is iliad these are the most banger greek mythology books
rarely
Can someone recommend space-time related fictional books
=hetchhiker's guide to the galaxy
=the martian
=project hail mary
these are the best space/science fiction books i have read
I will!
I have read the Iliad though
I'm still reading it rn but "A Tale for the Time Being" is very good
not super space-timey but the best scifi book i've ever read is "All Tomorrows: The Myriad Species and Mixed Fortunes of Man." it's very short i finished it in 1 hour lol
it's about like the speculative evolution of humans in space
warning though it's a little disturbing and uses elements of body horror
any good books on public speaking?
I would recommend: The Art of Public Speaking
ted talks guide
is there any reborn books like iskai but not light novels but western books
does anyone have any good david goggins book recommendations?
Y’all should read Angela’s Ashes
i LOVE your review coz six of crows in one of my favourite book of all time and your review is literally what i felt as well reading that book!
anyone read The Vanishing Half?
Hi I'm new, are we currently reading a new book this month?
Can someone help me I want to start with stoicism
dont
Meditations
really enjoyed reading deepwork, yall got any recommendations for something similar? (also already read atomic habits)
you may like "Grit" by Angela Duckworth
Time Management for Mortals
yo for nonfiction does anyone read a summary of the book before they read the actual thing
both as a test to see if you'd actually like it and as a way to absorb the info better
I do this but with movies lmao
helps me fully understand what’s happening so I don’t have to think while I’m watching it and miss things
would you say it follows similar themes to the david goggins books (if youve read them) because Im leaning more towards the time management book that was recommended or another cal newport book
i haven't read goggins yet, but "Grit" is pretty much revolving around the title theme (grit), it's very much focused on a growth mentality which i like. The thing about time management is, you may read thousands of books around the subject, if you don't imply things irl and try out others, you won't know what works the best for you. For time management, try looking up "calendar blocking", i think it can make sense for some people.
I’ve only read like 2 time management type books and I’ve implemented a lot of things from them in my day to day life and I started re reading atomic habits and I noticed a lot things that I missed during my first read so I think I’m still not at that point where I’m not benefiting from the time management type books but I 100% see your point
Any good book to learn databases?
Yo, guys, does anyone knows some good books about discipline?
Meditations
The Little Book of Big Change
it's good
Thx a lot
no excuses and atomic habit
if you want to read satire with humour please read murakami
kafka on the shore, after dark and many more
Omg, so much recommendations) Thx a lot. I hear about no excuses, atomic habits and murakami, started some of this. Wanna check Little Book of Big Changes!
ah cool! good luck
then try natsume soseki
or junji ito ( if you love horror stuff)
Can you recommend any good works of him?
he's a manga artist
sure kokoro, i am a cat, botchan
and light and darkness
Oh, i'm reading Initial D right now, wanna try berserk next. Think, I need to put aside this author)
you'll love junji ito
some of his best works are tomie, uzumaki, voices in the dark, no longer human and many more
Hm, think, I hear something about no longer human
Ok, I'll add all of this to my goodreads. Wanna read, when finish my planning books
Thx a lot again
Kafka is goated
It’s a 5/5 for me
real.
The Trail hits the hardest for me
any good spring type book recommendation anyone?
lol such a strange book
its the best book on absurdism in my opinion
i really liked the stranger
hello guys can you recommend me some book? im looking for something chill and aesthetical. something similar to impatience of heart by stefan zweig
kafka on the shore is probably the best book i’ve ever read
i definitely recommend it too
dude i just finished that like a month ago and it was honestly so friggin good
any other murakami reccs? i have also read norwegian wood and colourless tsukuru tazaki
ikk i was mind blown
i’ve read norwegian wood as well! i also recc after dark
I liked “What I Talk About When I Talk About Running”, I listened to it as an audiobook and finished it in like a day lol
Super relaxing
im reading 1Q84 and blind willow, sleeping woman rn
Obviously it’s more biographic but I think it’s nice and chill
o i have that but in norwegian, haven’t read it yet though
(Haven’t read any other Murakami besides Norwegian Wood fwiw)
norwegian wood was rly good! the ending was weird and confusing but so fitting
only heard good things abt this
jus looked into blind willow, sleeping woman and looks hella interesting
it’s rlyy good!
seems like something i would really like tbh
it’s a ton of interesting n fun short stories
plus u can put it down after one story without loosing track, as they’re all unrelated to each other
oohhh ive been needing something like that
just short memos to kill time n i find that rly nice
tyty i will put it next on my tbr list
also it got me into running and I used to hate running so 👍
npp! i hope u like itt
ive tried running sm lol maybe this will finally get me to like it lol
me too i’ll definitely read it soon
do yk any other authors similar to murakami that r also good? i wanna branch out more
kafka? just getting into him myself but the metamorphosis was pretty swag
thats all ive read of him
ooo i’ve been wanting to read that
If you're keen on Murakami's work, you might like Banana Yoshimoto's books
"Asleep" could be a good book to start 😳
seems super cool, thank you!
i’ll look into that tyy!
finished 'Wind-up Bird Chronicle' off of someone in here's recommendation. I thought it was cool but bit xd random at times
I have read all three🥹
Omg you really read through all the incest??
i found a book very interesting about philosophy and how now days we don´t see the "other" in others, we only see, and try to get as many "us" in our lifes as possible, ignoring the "other".
The book is called "The Expulsion of the Other: Society, Perception and Communication Today" From Byung-Chul Han, the autos stills alive and have a lot more books.
(srry if my english is not that good, it isn´t my main language lol)
i did… it was definitely pretty disturbing at times but i still really enjoyed the book overall
that sounds really interesting! i’ll check it out tysm!
any recommendation about the matrix type books like the idea that we are all brainwashed some have realised it more like revolution against it or escaping it
and better be a story
yep i did
like is there any book have the same concept as the matrix
i've never read the manchurian candidate but people sya its good
i have never seen the matrix and honestly have 0 idea what the plot is lol
4.09 on goodreads sounds good to me if you haven't read it @orchid ferry
its like we are controlled and we need to escape little close to 1984
yep i didn't thx for the rec
reading the description the brainwashiness of the story is centred around sleeper agents that can be awoken to assassinate people
so if you're into that 🤷
first* published in 1959
pretty ancient
damn that's already in the movie i really appreciate it
The Mazer Runner trilogy has a similar concept
like in the movie
thx i will read it cuz i still believe book>>movie
oh the book has a VERY diffnt and more detailed plot. the movie was so lousy, it doesnt even explain whats happening
the book has better characters and is more brutal and has a proper convincing plot
the majority of the third book book makes up for the boring 2nd half of the second book
yep its always book>>>movie
I havent read them in a while but i enjoyed the first maze runner movie too
Idk about the second
samee. although it was a loose adaptation, it was great seeing the story on film
especially the Glade sets
I did a school project on the movie when it came out
That was so long ago
I was 10 when it came out lmao
ohh a project noice
i saw the movie only a couple of years ago. but read the books as a kid
I saw the movie before I read the book I think lol
I forget the general plot but I remember being shocked about the ending of the first movie
I thought all the shots with the grievers were really good
Remember having nightmares about those things
but why did they make the grievers as spiders😭
Idk lmao idk where they got the inspiration from
I looked like newt from the maze runner when I was little lmao
the director also worked in The Planet of the Apes series. he likes big jumpy animals lmao
Did he really
I never saw planet of the apes
I just remember my dad showing me the YouTube clip from the movie of the monkey with the ak-47
I thought it was real
bro those scenes are trauma for kids
That explains it
there this jail shown in the trailer which is run my chimps and holds humans as prisoners
i want to start in lovecraft series anyone know where should i start
Wikipedia
My friend recommend me some works, like The Call of Cthulhu, Herbert West, The Temple, In the Vault, Whisperer in Darkness
thx
anyone have a recommendation on how to take notes from nonfiction books
to remember the important stuff
annotate
use little sticky thingies idk what theyre called
i literakky always forget the plot and characters soits very useful
my friend owns a ereader and allegedly acquires his books from semi legal sources
well i wasn't gonna say that lol
do you like use notion or any platform like that to track the key takeaways from every chapter
i am usually a pen and paper person but keeping that organized with books is gonna be a nightmare
nah i mostly read stupid gay things so i dont bpther
understood lol
for philosopgy and stuff i get the real books and annotate
I usually just use my brain to remember
ok ryan dont be abliest
True
real i have some fake copies
i have an oddly bright copy of the alchemist with lopsided print
rlly added to the experience
They probably scanned the pages
my friend doesn't want to waste the paper printing it out and also doesn't want to carry a real ass book it is more convenient
to use the ereader
yeah but i feel like its such a beta move to use kindles and shit
my friend doesn't use a kindle
its comparable to a kindle
my friend says you are a hater
lmfao
Is your friend you by any chance
sometimes you gotta talk to the realest guy you know 💯
😭 😭
reccomend me a book to read
Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers is a good one, it’s a light and gripping read.
godbless
Helooo
Just finished "A Fortunate Woman" by P Morland; would highly recommend to people who enjoy biographies. Long story short they're real life (altered for the sake of anonymity) stories about the patients that a countryside GP doctor interacts with, her experiences and her love for the countryside living. I'd recommend for those who like hearing people's stories and it has a nice grasp on the complexities of a variety of different people!
HeHi, has anyone read Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg Mckeown and if so what do you think of the book ?
*Hi
Hey, what would you recommend reading for general knowledge?
if you’re looking to build general knowledge than the general ‘best’ way of doing it that i’d recommend is simply going to a bookstore, heading to the nonfiction section and picking out something that catches your wye
thanks !
can someone recommend anything similar to A Man Called Ove?? heartwarming and precious (ive read House in the Cerulean Sea)
‘elanor oliphant is completely fine’ is quite similar, i would say
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, one of the best japanese books its even in my top 20 best books of all time i read its sperated in 3 books of enjoyment highly recommended
omg thank you so much, it is now one of my favourites as well and I can’t wait to pick up the second one!! (sorry for the late reply I don’t check discord that much 😭)
does anyone know where I can find a pdf of unica zürn's books?
Can anyone tell me which app is the best for reading books
Moon+ reader
@gleaming juniper thank you 💕💕
@modern zephyr im happy i could be of help
Can someone suggest which books to start my reading journey(I don’t read books but I do read mangas and comics though)
List of books I own rn which one should I take to read first or you and other suggestions
- Lord of the ring trilogy
- Hobbit
- Hardy boys(5book set)
- The hunger games part 1
- Nancy drew: bad times, big crimes
- Goosebumps ( I have 4 books)
- Relativity: the special and general theory
i highly suggest to not read long books if you just started reading books i can suggest some like agatha christie books like Murder on the Orient Express
or goerge orwell books like animal farm
Will surely give it a try
its everywhere in the internet
yep u can scan it in virus total to check
Ok thanks
np
read the hobbit first, if you like the universe and are ready to plunge into Fantasy, it's a nice entry in the matter
Ok thanks
I have watched lotr
So it will surely help
Hunger Games is an easy read if you are just starting out. the language is contemporary so easier
ok thanks will try to read that too
if you wanna some books of philosophy start from stoic books good books they build personality
authors i recommend in sequence: seneca, epiteto, marco aurelio.
can you please recommend specific starter books on stoicism? i only know it as a concept, nothing too deep. where can i start?
Guys, I am struggling to find a free version of "The Oxford Handbook of Job Loss and Job Search". This might be the best existing book on how to actually get a job and I can't find it anywhere. Does someone have this book or knows how to get it?
Read Meditations
(From my personal experience of not knowing what stoicism was and then reading it)
Meditations is the last one of the three authors
Start with seneca on the shortness of life
After epictetus the manual for living
Then meditations is chronological order
I haven’t gone through chronologically but I read meditations first and I liked it and it made sense 👍
I’d say the main thing is just to start reading something lol
okayy thank you
thank you ill check it out as well
Hi guys, I'm 18 and just started university this year. I never really read books in my life, except for some obliged school projects. So what are the best books for new readers? (rn i have the feeling of not reading much bcs the most books are boring in my opinion, u guys have to change that negative feeling of me!, bcs i know how much advantage u can get out of reading). ty
well depends there's a lot of book around there. Any subject or activities do you like?
lets say that I am open for everything, I want maybe those iconic books that most people know, the books that have high recognition and rating in the world of lecture, books that you HAVE to read once in your life according to most people
I think that first I have to read those books before i know what subjects i like to read
I have a book from the 1800s-1900s, and it is the sexiest book I have ever held in my life. For me at least in my opinion, it doesn't matter if the book is old or not unless is scientific stuff.
I would like to recommend Zen: The Art of Simple Living and Digital Minimalism by cal new port
That's my first book i read so yeah 😄
the thing is, you don't "have" to read anything, and many people claim to have read this or that book for clout, it doesn't make any sense. Reading is about knowledge but also pleasure, if you only read out of obligation, or fomo it's not going to be smth for you. And it's fine.
As for beginner maybe "classics" i would say "1984" and/ or "Animal Farm" by Orwell; The hobbit by Tolkien or Harry potter for that fantasy realm; Frankenstein 🤌 ;
for short books i always recommend "The old man who read love stories"- Sepulveda
-A room of one's own- Virginia Woolf
When breath becomes air- P. Kalanithi
Before the coffee gets cold- T. Kawaguchi
(my list is never ending sorry)
is there anything youve been interested in?
gonna check those out for sure, thanks!
i think its the best for me to taste a bit of everything so i can get to understand myself better
that's the beauty of reading 😄
yeah true but in order to build a bit of reading you have to take the path of least resistance, then you can go on to "out there" books
i just think for me it is gonna be the best way of getting into loving the reading is by going through some classics that the most people love and recognize as one of the best u know, i could be wrong just experimenting
yeah i get that lol and alot of classics will probably align with some of your interests?
the main thing is you are trying to enjoy reading? and a good way to start is to do stuff that interests? if you have extremely little interest in politics for example.. animal farm will be a strange pig power dynamic story to you.. i'm not sure reading outside of things you've thought about will aid you in your goal. but yes i almost exclusively read classics i love them so i am in support of what you are saying generally its just that i dont think you should start like that as a beginner.
that being said, one of my first few novels and i think my favorite book of all time is "to kill a mocking bird"
I’d recommend the book thief by Markus Zusak

youre welcome
yes but old books can be boring for new readers, I think you should try modern popular books
hi! i would really love to learn more about european history. does anyone know a book i could read about it? it doesn't have to cover the entire scope of european history. it could cover individual significant historical events in europe, like the nazi regime or perhaps stalinist russia, the entirety of ww1 and so on .. thank you very much!
Hope u found what ur searching for. Asking for a favor here I'm pretty much the same and would be grateful if u shared u books u got recommended or in mind
Anyone know any good books about like math or compsci, not textbooks for learning but just something interesting
Are you looking for History books or historical fictions?
Historical fictions:
-
Umberto Eco, The Name of the Rose, 1980 (with a movie adaptation): about tensions and polemics inside of the Catholic institution. It’s a crime novel that takes place in a monastery in medieval Italy.
-
Charlotte Bousquet, Là où tombent les anges (Where angels fall), 2015: a 17 years old French girl is married to a man right before WW1. He leaves her to go to the front and she discovers free life and how women organise things in their husbands’ absence. But he comes back severely injured and cannot fit into civil society anymore. It’s the story of hopes and wounds during WW1 in France and of the secret tragedy that many households faced. I really liked it when I read it (and the author’s writing it beautiful), but I don’t know if it has an English version.
-
Kressmann Taylor, Adress Unknown, 1938: it tells the story of two German men who started a business in the USA; one of them (Martin) comes back to Germany after the WW1 defeat, while the other (Max, a Jew) stays in the US. We follow their story through their letters, during two years. At first, Martin is super excited about a man named Htler who brings hope to Germans, but Max soon realises that things are not normal, as the treatment of Jew gets worse, and his friend slowly adheres to the Nazi ideology…
-
Primo Levi, If This Is a Man, 1947: this book is not fiction; it’s the precious account of an Italian Jewish resistant deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp and his life there. It’s not always easy to read, but it’s really an important book.
-
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago, 1973: another important testimony, that shook Europe and foreign USRR partisans when it was published. Solzhenitsyn, a writer and dissident, explains the history of gulag and his own experience in these labour camps.
-
Jacques Le Goff, The Birth of Europe, 2006: Le Goff is a famous French historian. This books goes back to the Middle Ages to try to identify the foundation of what we know as Europe. (a real history book)
-
Erich Maria Remarque, _ All Quiet on the Western Front_, 1929: a 16 year old German boy enrolls in the German army to fight in WW1. Everyone is excited, until they see the horror of war… it’s a pacifist novel.
That’s it for my recommendations! I’m French so my choices and knowledge are biased (I don’t know much about Northern Europe) so I hope someone else will give their own!
I’ve been meaning to read almost all your recs 😄
I see Jacques Legoff and Umberto Ecco and that makes me happy ✨
why are y'all so fixated with european history?
Any books like 'Midnight Library' ??
House in the Cerulean Sea if youre looking for a wholesome read
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely check it out 😊
Does anyone know any good self help books?
there are a lot self help books out there what kind are you looking for
Anything really,to help me control my emotions, how to deal with life challenge etc
Subtle Art of Not Giving a F might be a good starting read. Although its overhyped, it still manages to provide a sense of self-fulfillment
well, the bright orange cover is a pretty good reason itself to read it
Thank you very much!!
Think like a monk, Cant hurt me, Meditations by marcus arelius
Thank you!!!
+2 to meditations it’s amazing
I'm still reading and recommending these books.
- Atomic Habits by James Clear
- The Hating game by Sally thorne
I'll check it out thank you!!
can anyone recommend a happy and wholesome read?
A Man Called Ove by Frederick Backman
Hello
What is the Difficulty level reading level for CRIME & PUNISHMENT by Fyodor Dostoevsky?
can a 15yr old such as myself read & understand it?
anyone can read it at any time. dont put any limits on yourself
age doesn't really matter here, it depends on your own vocab! but go for it
What book should I read to not misunderstand how humain learn things? So I can use it as a preference to learn stuff faster.
yo guys I just picked up a kindle like a month ago and I still haven't read a full book, you guys got any good book recommendations?
I want to get smarter
I also want to be more articulate when speaking to people and have a vast amount of knowledge
if youve just started reading, then non fictions or 'books to make one smarter' can be tough to complete. so choose a non fiction which appeals to you the most, some book youll be motivated to complete
and also try customizing your kindle font and layout and stuff to make it look more inviting and easy to read
that sounds like the way to go, thanks!
The wisdom of psychopaths - Kevin Dutton
If you like non fiction
valid, but theres no definition of smart. to 'get smarter' isnt a clear goal. define what you specifically want to achieve first
also define some interests of yours that might correlate w/ that goal. for ex; i really love psychology--crime & punishment has exactly that + helps to deepen my knowledge of life. that way, it doesnt feel like a chore for me to read

I’m so sorry I didn’t reply 😭 that makes me glad! :D hope you’ll have a good time reading them :)

tysm man
Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Goes into the explanation of the flow state and why it is important for a good life.
Are there any reading strategies that help improve reading speed? Or is it just years of practice?
personally i've found the thing that makes the biggest difference is just removing distractions. if i keep getting distracted and have to read everything twice or three times, that's the biggest drain on my speed
I try to read in phrases/sentence chunks rather than individual words for better comprehension and speed. Building a reading habit also helps; It's easier to read more smoothly when you read constantly than after long breaks. ((I hope this helps :3))
one of the best books ever)
i think in kindle mobile app there is a feature speed reading or something like that where the words are presented one by one. you can increase the speed in number of words per minute. it is very intensive though and requires a strong focus
Is anyone familiar with this book - “ The way of the superior man” ?
If yes, how is it?
Hey there, can you make a website suggestion on where I can find free books?
permanent record is so annoying, i’ve stopped at the beginning of the book because he is speaking of his childhood in a very very specified and detailed way
maybe i’m dumb for stopping now
but like, im here to know how and why he leaked these documents, how did he get here, not from what family her mother is from
im somewhere at the end/middle of the book, i cant say i disagree, but 80% of details from his childhood are unnecessary and mostly unrelated to the rest of the book
Can you guys recommend me some books which is similar to "the running man" Or "and then there were none "
Nothing beats And Then There Were None
does anyone know if i should get the book misery by stephen king?

okay I need some opinions. Why is 48 laws of power so feared by many people who read it
I haven't read the book. That being said, My reasoning is the 2 words in the title, "laws" & "power", have a part to play in it
i’ve started reading it, it might be because it presents some advices who could potentially make you a sociopath
hmmm alright that does make sense. I'll give it a go to see if I become one or not
joking of course
keep me updated on your opinion about it! i’m finding it fascinating but not really applicable in real life unless you’re a robot
can I add you then to keep you updated of course
sure
The Troop by Nick cutter is good
It’s a classic mystery/thriller, with a 4.5 star rating
web scraping with python is a great book
read The Wall Speaks
Im reading The Martian by Andy Weir, I've seen the movie before, but it doesn't spoil the experience. It's a very good story. Wondering if Arthemis (a newer book by Andy) is also good
Artemis is nowhere close to The Martian. People wonder why he got the book published. I'd say skip Artemis and rather read Project Hail Mary after Martian. Hail Mary even trumps the Martian
Can anyone recommend me some ‘cyberpunk’ scifi books? I liked books like “do android dream of electric sheep”, Asimov’s robot series, and anything really by william gibson

The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson. This novel combines cyberpunk and postcyberpunk elements and takes place in a future world where nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and societal divisions play central roles. It follows a young girl who receives an interactive book that changes her life
Mirrorshades: The Cyberpunk Anthology edited by Bruce Sterling. If you're interested in a collection of short stories, "Mirrorshades" is a good choice. It features stories from various authors, including William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, and Rudy Rucker, offering a diverse range of cyberpunk visions.
Hardwired by Walter Jon Williams. its set in a dystopian future where megacorporations control society, this novel follows a mercenary who becomes embroiled in a high-stakes conflict between rival factions. It features high-tech warfare, hackers, and a gritty atmosphere

This book provides an introduction to space exploration, covering topics such as rocketry, orbital mechanics, space missions, and the challenges of space travel. It offers a broad perspective on the field of space flight. - Rocket Propulsion Elements by George P. Sutton and Oscar Biblarz

It covers the principles of rocket propulsion, including propulsion systems, rocket engine components, and performance analysis. - Understanding Space: An Introduction to Astronautics by Jerry Jon Sellers et al
This book offers a comprehensive introduction to astronautics, covering topics such as the space environment, orbital mechanics, rocket propulsion, space mission design, and spacecraft subsystems.

Yo guys i want some books about manipulation, do u have any recommendations?
Art of Seduction is the best one in this.
okayy thank uu
gotta help when i can
I’m under the impression people think it promotes dark triad personality types or is straight up manipulation. It makes me want to read it just to see what the controversy is about.

I started reading it and it doesn't seem as bad as people say it is
not yet
I understand most of the concepts but also see the manipulation factor behind these laws
I don't really read that much, but I want to start and maybe make a habit out of it (better than spending time on social media)
I'm 21 yo, in university, Europe
Does anyone have any early recommendations? Books that I could start with maybe (any genre is welcome)

Cambridge O Level Physics by David Sang, Graham Jones, and Gurinder Chadha
Published by Cambridge University Press, this txb follows the O Level Physics syllabus closely and offers comprehensive coverage of the subject
for O Level Chemistry Textbooks
Chemistry Matters by Tan Yin Toon and Chen Ling Kwong
Like its physics counterpart, this textbook is well-structured and presents chemistry concepts in a student-friendly manner. It includes helpful illustrations and practice questions.

Also published by Cambridge University Press, this textbook aligns with the O Level Chemistry syllabus and offers in-depth coverage of chemistry topics.
Robert Greene himself has claimed himself to have been a naive and agreeable person when he entered the game of power and dominance
So he himself has said that he wrote the book to educate the same naive and agreeable type of people (like he once was) about the laws of power that are used in the world.
He's sharing the unpleasant lessons he learned about the power game so that other people can defend themselves and understand what goes on when you deal with people in the real world where it's a game of power and dominance.
It's a book to understand how people mess with you and manipulate you
So that's kinda why people think he's an evil guy who promotes evil ideas through an evil book like the 48 laws of power.
But really he's just exposing the bitter truth about the crap that goes on in the world.
Read my msg above
Btw I got this from Robert's talk with Jordan Peterson
He also explains stuff in yt shorts
So that's where I got it from
Ok,I will try to learn from these thank you.
People should read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, it’s actually really good
BUY HERE: amzn.to/3HW1IOE

I did, such a touching book, it reflects me pretty well
Currently reading Peak, really good so far. Too early on to compare it with Mastery by George Leonard, but the concept of mental representations is helpful
My goal is to apply the insights onto iOS Development / Swift programming
peak is peak
factsssss 😁
Guys I was thinking of writing a book, a fiction with a psychological approach, i would love to hear your opinions. So feel free critisize me brutally, thank youu
It's soo good ngl, the fact that I could relate to it all is crazy tho
it's good. but I just wanna add one thing, the sentences felt complicated. the last page was fine but the first few pages. it was a lot of phrases separated by commas which made it difficult to continue reading. but hey it could just be me. maybe I read differently than this. but the layout, the connection, and even the phrases were beautiful.
thank you so much, relatibility is essential for me
I see your point I sometimes tend to overdo but I also don't want it to become like the every other fiction out there, also I wonder would you consider yourself who reads a lot and familiar with complex concepts etc. I am trying to understand what would it look like from the perspective of an average reader
It's a very nice thing that you write the way you do. it speaks quality. but if I was writing something I would want everybody to feel comfortable without degrading my writing style. write the way you do, but just break it down a little. instead of one line, just write two. not four because it would make the text lengthy, boring and skippable. and I'm not saying do this everywhere, but at some places to break the continuation down.
I guess I can keep writing it the way it is in key moments like this but for other parts will simplify the overall , thank you for giving time and thought on this matter, it means a lot to me ❤️
keep going and growing love❤️
Hey guys
I have question for you guys
I am looking for a novel that is fluent
Is there any reccomandations?
do u mean smooth and engaging writing style?
Has anyone read the house of leaves
I want to tidy up my life (im a student rn) its quite messy and foggy here and I have forgotten the way of responsibility? Book Recommendation for a start pls. ty

Yeah like that
@gentle warren
u can try the classic one, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee . it has a compelling story and well-developed characters.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. it has elegant and witty writing, making this romantic novel a delightful read.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. its known for its lyrical prose and vivid descriptions, this novel is a masterpiece of modern American literature.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. its a magical tale with lush and atmospheric writing.
If you want to tidy up your life and get back on the responsibility track as a student, I highly recommend checking out The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. It's a classic self-help book that gives you practical tips to level up your personal effectiveness. Covey shares 7 habits that can totally change your life for the better. From being proactive and setting goals to managing time like a pro and improving communication, this book has got you covered. It's an awesome starting point to get your life back on track and achieve some serious growth!
How is the wind up bird chronicle and rat series something like that by murakami
Both The WindUp Bird Chronicle and the Ratseries (Trilogy of the Rat) are fiction works by Haruki Murakami, but they're different stories. The WindUp Bird Chronicle follows a man searching for his missing wife with surreal elements. The Rat series has three novels with interconnected characters and mystery. Both explore identity and meaning in unique ways.
Are they worth reading, are they good like his other novels so far i have read kafka on the shore, Norwegian woods, after dark, 1q84 i liked all of them they had a cool world to get lost in but I'm thinking is it the same with these 2 as well or not
If you loved Murakami's other novels, you'll likely enjoy The Wind-Up Bird Chronicleand the Rat series too. They have his signature style of blending realism and surrealism, offering captivating and imaginative worlds.
Okay thanks I'll finish the count of Monte Cristo then I'll start with the wind up bird chronicle and the rat series and also i was listening to your le kpop playlist it was really good.
omg that was random HAHAHAHAHA but thank u! i just add some of my favourites inside
Haha i just listened to, do not touch and marshmallow and they instantly became my fav as well

as Malak mentioned, 1984 by george!
and also, Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, its set in a future society where people are engineered and conditioned for conformity and pleasure, raising questions about freedom and individuality.
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. its a chilling tale of a theocratic society where women are subjugated, and a woman's role is solely for reproduction.
Divergent by Veronica Roth. In a divided society, people are grouped based on their dominant traits, and one girl discovers she doesn't fit neatly into any category.
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel . its set in a post-apocalyptic world where a deadly pandemic has decimated civilization, the story weaves together multiple characters and timelines.

-> The house in the Cerulean sea -T.J. Klune
perfect summer read
I was just gonna ask for a fun book to read, appreciate it 🙏
also hi
I forgot to mention the "chatter me "serie & hunger games
i read the first book of shatter me series and i didnt like it at all. ive heard about hunger games, got to add it to my wish list :)
Haven't read the shatter me serie yet but I heard it's a dystopian ya fantasy and a lot of people recommended it to me , I am still hesitant about reading it since it contains some romance and that's not something I enjoy tbh
i was expecting a good dystopian book, but the story is 80% romance, and a really weird one. also, the writting is really basic, so i didnt enjoy it at all
Hey, did someone read “A mind for Numbers” from Barbara Oakley?
does anyone have miyamoto musashi's the way of the warrior book's pdf ?
I've listened to some her lectures about learning , they were brilliant so i'm guessing it would be a good book if u're keen on maths and science.

Hello, I am super new to reading, as I wanted to change my habits of using YouTube, I wanted a book which can distract me from it, I think I like fiction more, Idk much but from what I have researched "The Alchemist" seems to be a popular choice, are there some other interesting options too? suggestions would be appreciated
Thank you :)
Hey waffles, I recommend "The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka. It's a great book to start with, and it's also really addictive, haha
thank you so much for the suggestion, here's what I think
I read some reviews about it on Amazon/YouTube and I get it must a very good book, but I am not in a mood of reading a deep dark thought/ books harder to understand
I am looking for more kind of good vibes, or fun story, like Harry Potter
I have found another book though, and I kinda like it
It's "people we meet in vacation"
It's a romance fiction
Edit : it's an friends to lover plot
Any thoughts?
Oh, I haven't actually read it, but it's got good reviews on Goodreads. So, yeah, I guess it's a cool choice!
Oh so you see reviews from goodreads?
Never heard of the website but tq
It might be helpful for me to search a lil bit
Yeah, I usually check out reviews on Goodreads or YouTube. They haven't let me down yet, haha.
Goodreads is cool because you can write reviews and see the scores other people have given. It also suggests books based on your tastes, and there are communities too.
Yea, just created an account and was wandering around
again thanks
Hey! A bookworm here. I am glad you read harry potter. Its definitely a book i would read over and over again. I was about to suggest it to you, before i read your whole message haha.
Some other suggestions i would give you are:
The six of crows (both of the books are fantastic read), Convenience store woman, Percy Jackson series, Maze runner, You can always try Agatha christie's books. Specially her Dectective Poirot ones. So good! You can check out other Emily Henry's books. I also read "people we meet on vacation" and really adored it. Some more books: The hunger games, An ember in the ashes, The hate you give, Everything everything, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, Good Girl's Guide to Murder ( wasnt my cup of tea, but ik alot of ppl who loved it), Divergent, Five feet apart, Howl's moving castle, Little Women, Anne of green gables , Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children, Diary of a younger girl (Anne frank), School for good and evil ( by Soman Chainani), Eleanor & Park.
OK. HAHA thats all for now. As you can see, reading and recommending books are kinda my passion. Lol. So here is a overwhelming amount of book recs. Good luck!
But, for now thats all i can remember that fits in your wanted suggestions ahah! If i remember later on, i might rec some more. (edit, right after i wrote this i remembered much more so wrote those down too xD enjoy!)
Its a mix of very different genre, so maybe that would help you see what types you would like to read more
just a misunderstanding, I haven't read Harry Potter but watched it's movie
So kinda know which story it follows, so I just named it 😅
Sorry
And for the suggestions
Thank you very much!!
I just ordered "people we meet on vacation"
It seemed a fun, easy book to read for me as a beginnier which will keep it engaging for me
I have noted down other books too! They are on my list once I finish people owe meet on vacation

It's awesome that you're looking to switch up your habits and dive into reading, The Alchemist is a fantastic choice, full of adventure and life lessons. If you're into fiction, maybe there are more great options out there to explore. Or if you're up for a classic, The Great Gatsby is a captivating tale of the Jazz Age. If you're into mystery and suspense, Gone Girl will keep you hooked till the last page. These are just a few but the reading world has something for everyone.
Oh no worries. Why should you be sorry? Lol, It's all good. Tho I would say if you decide to read harry Potter, you are in for a ride. It's so good. If you have watched the movie, well just so you know movies are not even half as good as the book =~=
And you are very welcome!! If you need more recs, you can ask me again! But it's really great to hear you put my recs to your tbr! Hope you have a good time with those haha
Enjoy people we meet on vacation, such a good book to lighten up the heart.
(Ps, the alchemist is a great book too. Hope you would give it a chance when you feel it!)
Oh gone girl is great! I haven't read the great gatsby tho, maybe I will add it to my own tbr.
I advise you not to limit your reading to novels only, try to read a non-fiction book and a fiction book at the same time, because reading only novels does not bring as much benefit as non-fiction books. When I started reading, three years ago, I only read novels, but a month ago I was in the middle of a novel, and when I finished it, I felt that I no longer wanted to read more novels and that I wanted to change and read non-fiction books and I regretted not having tried it before because it was really fun and useful
I am one of the people who read Harry Potter and did not watch it, and I remember that this experience was very enjoyable
I see, tq for the tip
I will keep it in mind!!
tq for the recommendation!! Added to my list
thx haha
Indeed. it was an adventure for me too

The Midnight library for @gleaming juniper @stoic thorn
@gleaming juniper when u read it u'll understand why
can you tell me what it is about i have seen the book but idk it is good or not
It's about a girl who was depressed and even got suicidal thoughts because of her boring and full of regret life , one day she decided to take an overdose , after she lost consciousness she found herself in a library with infinite books all in the same color and here where her journey begins
Why I told u to read it , because this book shows us how regret can ruin & turn our life upside down, that we have a lot of potential but with a bad mindset and absence of purpose and meaning we can become miserable
seems a very interesting book i will give it a read
books to get started with philosophy?
i dont read much but want to cultivate the habit
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius : on Stoicism
Thus spoke Zarathoustra by Nitszche
Stranger by Albert Camus : personally not a big fan but you never know .
Notes from underground by doestovsky: a noval but has philosophical ideas
Bro nietzsche is very hard to understand
That's the point hhhhh
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is about a shepherd named Santiago who embarks on a journey to follow his dreams. It's a story of self discovery, determination, and the pursuit of personal legend.
The Martian by Andy Weir is about overcoming adversity and problem-solving, its a tale of an astronaut stranded on Mars and his fight for survival through ingenuity and resourcefulness.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber is not a novel tho but it can inspire you to embrace adventure and not just daydream about it.
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman is about a man who returns to his childhood home and remembers extraordinary events that shaped his life.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is about a magical competition between two young illusionists. It's a story of creativity, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence.
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. its about a gifted musician and magician, as he grows into a legendary figure in a richly crafted world.
u can try The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern too. its about two young illusionists engage in a magical competition that has been going on for centuries.
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. its about a young boy who survives a terrorist attack in a museum and becomes entangled with a priceless painting.
Circe by Madeline Miller its smtg about Greek mythology
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, its set in world war II, its abt two sisters in Nazi-occupied France.
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, its abt a hidden library known as the Cemetery of Forgotten Books in post-war Barcelona. This book combines mystery, romance, and historical fiction.
American Gods by Neil Gaiman, is a blend of fantasy, mythology, and Americana.
oh yeah right im so dumb
thanks a lot
Naah u're not
I liked The Martian but I don’t recommend his other book Artemis. He doesn’t know how to write women and weirdly sexualized the main character
Idk if I would call it a philosophical book tho
You can’t go wrong with anything from Night Vale Presents (they have matching serial fiction podcasts too) but my personal favorite is Alice Isn’t Dead. It goes through themes of anxiety and feeling helpless and then overcoming these fears through community and direct action. It’s also a little spooky and liminal and absurd. Excellent book. The podcast for it came out before the book and has a similar but different storyline. I cannot recommend either enough
Book: https://www.amazon.com/Alice-Isnt-Dead-Joseph-Fink/dp/006284413X
Podcast: http://www.nightvalepresents.com/aliceisntdead
Philosophy texts can be really hard to get through especially if you’ve never read one before. I liked The Norton Introduction to Philosophy 2nd edition: https://www.chegg.com/textbooks/the-norton-introduction-to-philosophy-2nd-edition-9780393624427-0393624420
It was the book I used in my university philosophy 101 class. It exposed me to multiple ideas and philosophers and taught me how to engage with philosophy texts written years and years ago since it’s like a different language than English today
any recommended books
do you have a category or genre you're looking for?
Anything
The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. Each "chapter" is a different story within the same world so you can jump around if you want to. It's based around space exploration, the colonization of Mars and its inhabitants and nuclear war. A beautiful sci fi
I think I've read it 3 times now
(excluding books jvsholz has recommended) Has anyone read a book that was recommended to you from this channel? What was your experience?
Does anyone know any books about Aristotle and his quotes
any good reccs around living inside of a simulation? sort of like westworld, or truman show vibes. or maybe the lego movie
Shatter me ( even though sadly it's 80% romance ) , 1984 , the hunger games..
appreciate it
Does anyone have "A world restored" by Henry Kissinger? I couldn't find the ebook on the internet.
Surface Detail by Iain Banks. It's part of his series the Culture series but you don't need to read them in order, people usually start with his book Player of Games anyway. It's about a Culture in the future that controls people in a simulation...I wont spoil it you can read it yourself
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. While not people finding out that they live in a simulation, the metaverse is a large part of the plot and the main characters who helped to create it. This book is one of those technology prophetic books. Neal coined the term metaverse in this book and predicted Google Earth. It's about hackers that save the world from a virus. It's very meta and not full of itself (main character is literally called Hiro Protagonist) and is a big critique on American culture. One of my all time favorite books
thank you! def going to read through Snow Crash this year
Will take a look at the Culture Series as well
Y'all I wanna ask is "the penguin book of undead" Good?

can someone recommend me books to improve my overall vocabulary
I'm reading Word Power Made Easy by NORMAN LEWIS and I highly recommend this one. It has unique words that have familiar meanings which is amazing. Also, it teaches you how to properly pronounce all the words with the help of their Latin origins.
thank you so much!
can anyone suggest some good psychological fiction book
the midnight library
Fight Club - kinda confusing read (although this is a rare case where the movie is better than the book), Fight Club 2 which is a graphic novel and is good too. i see they came out with a Fight Club 3, idk how that one is
Wintergirls - YA novel, really sad and triggering if you've had an eating disorder, but i enjoyed it and related when i read it at age 16, people often have mixed reviews
googled top books in the genre to see if i've read any:
Crime and Punishment - all the characters are bad ppl - you're supposed to hate them, and you shouldn't fully trust a narrator in this genre, i didn't like it probably because i had to read it in school, but it's a classic
Lord of the Flies - fantastic book, not representative of how humans would actually live out this scenario (it's been observed that we actually band together and build community to survive and don't go after each other's throats like the kids in the book do), lots of symbolism, i liked it as a kid and as an adult
sometimes when people say they want a psychological fiction book they want surrealism so if you want that then I super duper highly recommend the podcast Within the Wires. the creators made a standalone book too but i've yet to read it
what are some good books for someone who has lost the habit of reading ?
i prefer self help , fiction , psychological , thriller/horror/mindfuck? , basically something that excites me to read

can anyone suggest books that can help me get out of my reading slump,, thank u !!
I liked Malcolm Gladwells books since they're a bunch of short stories to illustrate a point he's trying to make. Its not necessarily in those genres though.
I liked Think Python. He has a bunch of other free books on his website https://greenteapress.com/wp/
His goal is to write shorter books students can understand instead of huge 1000 page tomes no one will read. Really admirable guy.
I'll check it out. Thank you!
Hey I recently read A LITTLE LUCK by claudia pinero , it is originally in spanish and translated in english too
Amazing book , got me out of my reading slump
Everyone in this room will someday be dead by emily austin
