Any book recommendations about genetic and genetic modelling and mutation?
And i need a book about gene manipulation
the silent patient is really good, it kept me on the edge of my seat!
yoo <@&942391219206647828> I am hosting a book summary session, am I allowed to post a link here for that?
If it involves anything that you think could be breaking the rules of the server, i'd say no
it does involve sending link of another discord server XD.
would it be allowed if I like post the summaries on youtube though and send that link instead?
Well then, if that's not clear enough, I will have to say no
also, what happened to the book club on this server? I started by getting inspired from here, and this one has been out for so longg
Cool. Not a problem, thanks though!
Good question
The Code Breaker by Walter Isaacson. Brilliant book
Thx
Does anyone know good books about pump engineering?
Do you guys know a good book that teaches chess ?
I want to buy some new books I just finished mine I need recommendations for a new book
and i was thinking to buy - Crime and Punishment /Pride and Prejudice but idk :\
Guys can you recommend me a book to self study physical chemistry and organic chemistry as I am self studying right now. For jee mains and advanced
The count of monte cristo by Dumas., I’ve read it some times ago but it’s really well crafted. If you are into (big) classics I’d also say Les Misérables by Hugo, Anna karenina of course, or Dorian gray for a shorter book😄
I would highly recommend you guys a book by great Russian poet Fyodor Dostoevsky- Idiot. That's the best book that I've ever read.(In russian literature ofc).Makes me really overthinking literally everything and everyone around me.
Hi! Has anyone ever read Parallel Worlds by Michio Kaku?
Crime and Punishment is peak Russian literature (by most of book ranking sources). So yeah, it's must read.
This is a novel about the fact that no crime can be committed without being punished, including the punishment of pangs of conscience. Dostoevsky emphasizes that no deed, even the best, is worth a human life.
you are welcome!
hello, i'm new to reading and i've been mostly reading popular phychology, however im going on a vacation so i wanted a book with some kind of a story.
Any recommendations?
My favorite movie genres are mystery and thriller if that helps.
Another great big classics would be for sure Tolstoy's War and peace, Dosto's other great works like the brother karamazov, demon, idiot, etc.
Victor Hugo also wrote another great big one which was the hunchback of notre dame one
Lawrence of Arabia was also a great read which id highly recommend
I have yet to read more Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, looking forward to it hehe. Notre dame is monumental (see the pun) but can be quite technical in the descriptions so there’s that to consider, especially for younger readers
ye
i actually just started notre dame today so i cant judge properly but ive seen people saying great things about it
Oh it’s is really great, if you like classics and big books, complex and dense hehe
yeah but all i can say so far is that it’s far more easier to read than Homer‘s Odyssey 💀
Odyssey made me quit reading for a month LMAO
Oh ye anything mythology and that ancient needs so much time and knowledge to appreciate the text, I remember the Iliad being quite hard because I didn’t know a lot about it
But with the Odysseus I did know some of the episodes already, the sirens, the cyclop, Circe etc etc
Yeah but my problem with it is the language
It’s just pain in the ass for me to read it, especially in german with all the cases and all the rules getting broken in the poetry
Greek mythology is pretty interesting ngl
The only book I‘ve currently read was The Tunnel by the argentinian writer Ernesto Sabato? Not sure if you know it, it’s a decent book
Another recommendation for my never ending books to read list, yusss🥳
👍 epic
i raccomend la divina commedia
perhaps one of my favorite poems however if you don't read it in Italian you don't understand well some quotes and the meaning of some verses
Idem😂
Dante aligero?
Alighieri
guys this might be weird but any Hitler book recommendations?
to like really know what was going thru his mind throughout the war and everything
ohhh i know that. it’s written by Hitler yeah?
idk if they sell it tho
i want a physical copy tho
for non fiction i like physical books
yeah if not. i’m sure there’ll be some other book bout it too. thanks
They sell mein kampf. Its not illegal to read it
Its available in my College library
@gleaming juniper r u from india?
dude you can literally find it in a second on google because neo-nazis are somehow proud on that book lmao
physical copys of that book are banned in several countries
nope
okay i checked. it’s not banned here!
indeed
well, good luck finding a physical copy of it now!
i dont think you can find it in your local library just like that LMAO
But seriously man if you actually want a good book about ww2 there is something i really can recommend
from what i heard by my relatives it's a great book about the time during the ww2
yeah sure !
i found it hehehe. a physical copy. it’s at Kinokuniya
Check your institution library for it. If its not available there. Most likely its not legal
It's called Tell me who I am (org. dime quien soy) by the spanish author julia navarro
if you guys want a good book that'll help you understand more about logic, you should check out logicomix. It's super fun to read because it's in a comic book style, but it touches on some extremely interesting topics. Bertrand Russell is one of the main characters btw
that was a terrible explanation im tired
hi! someone can recomend me a good book about engeenering and manadgment? thankssss
Dictionary
Which engineering subjects are you looking for? 0:
notes from underground is really good too
i read the myth of sisyphus a few weeks ago, one of the best books/essays ive ever read
almost all of dosto‘s works are excellent
except crocodile lmao
it was my first from him.. i think ill read the idiot next
or the double
hmm
im currently only reading some kafka but im looking forward to read something again by dostoevsky
Lol i wanna read kafka as well, i'm going through an absurdism phase.. ive heard he's a bit weird
died with no recognition sadly
I think i will buy this first thank you 🙂
Do you guys got any book recommendations for somebody whose a beginner?
hmmm do you have any idea about like what genres you would like? are you more of a fiction or a non-fiction person?
Hmmm, non-fiction
in that case, i'm currently reading immune by phillip dettmer which i am absolutely loving! its basically about our immune system and how it works, and its by the creator of the youtube channel Kurzgesagt which typically delves into various science topics with really beautiful animations and easy to understand explanations
theyve got a couple of videos about the immune system up so you can see if you like the topic
Ooooo, thanks for that, I’ll definitely look it up
if youre not really into biology stuff, i also really liked atomic habits which is more self-helpy but very practical
Thanks @tired galleon
no worries! good luck on your reading and hope u enjoy :)
Yeah because he didn’t publish anything in his life-time because he doubted in himself a lot
He is actually the only author I really studied everything off since I‘ve had to do a 20+ min lecture about him once
Interesting! Is the immune one more like a scientific book or more like self-help?
Stefan Zweig‘s historical novels like Amerigo
more scientific, not really self-help! it's very accessible though, what really struck me about the book is the clear wonder that the author feels about the human body and it's capabilities and how he really tries to explain the beauty of how it works
really makes you feel thankful for what your body does for you every single moment
Thesaurus too
whats best for a beginner is just read whatever you've always wanted to read.. let your interest guide you.. the habit is easier to pick up that way, makes it attractive
Any suggestions for me I wanna read a short book with easy vocabulary bcs I'm a English learner.thanks:)
Old man and the sea by Hemingway
Thanks
It’s good, powerful, easy to read
I'm gonna read it I think it's my first one
It's going to be boring at the beginning for some
hey y'all.. I'm 19 and just got done with all my college entrance exams.. all I've ever read when it comes to books is fiction or textbooks, and I'm tryna make a transition into theoretical books(basically novels that aren't fiction), but i end up reading them like a textbook. at this point it's started to feel like a chore to read them. any suggestions ?
Hi, is "norwegian wood" worth reading in your opinion?
"The Creativity Code: How AI Is Learning to Write, Paint and Think" If you are into computer and AI Stuffs
Its a non-typical romance kinda novel
I recommend the book "Quit like a Millionaire"
Ik the title sounds kindve like a cringe hustler title, but it's a really great book teaching about general real world financial advice in a very clean way. It's something I was never really taught in school but it does stuff like compared EVERY SINGLE MAJOR in multiple categories and teach about index funds and such
The author is a girl who was born in china with extreme poverty, who managed to go to America and min max her was into wealth
Very very informational highly recommend it to any kind of person like me who is like upper middle class, sheltered by parents and a bit naive about the world
Any good books (easy vocabulary )for someone who is learning eng(it's my first book)
Geronimo Stilton Books. they are meant for children ages 7-10 but they are very accessible and interesting stories
I see, did you enjoy it?
Yea its good. It's based in Japan
Any recommendation for sociology/philosophy books in spanish? ;D
In the title it says "Norwegian" so I thought it would be based in Norway😂
after a busy summer i finally finished stolen focus 👍 @rancid charm really good book
i like the author a lot and i'm kinda glad that not everything is my fault when i sometimes lose my focus
Its a reference to beatles song named norwegian wood. Thats what the protagonist and his crush listens to
Wow, okay
Hi I want to read one of coleen hoover’s books and I'm afraid that I will not understand it because I'm not that good in English and I'm not that bad

roadside picnic
Hi! Did u find anything? I think that would be quite an interesting topic I would like to know more about as well. The only book I know that talks about space, and the origin I believe is Parallel Worlds, but I havent read it yet
Hi I want to read one of coleen hoover’s books and I'm afraid that I will not understand it because I'm not that good in English and I'm not that bad
Hi, maybe u could read it in ur native language or try to read the first pages in english and see if u can read it all
I read Cant Hurt Me in english and i didnt understand every word (probably why it took me so long to read it) but I did it, I read it and I understood the main points
Would I read another book in english? Yah I would give it a go, unless it was a book I was really really interested in and that I would mind skip some pormenor
I will try thanks
no but i decided to read tools of conviviality by Ivan illich instead
Alright thanks regardless. Good reading
does anyone have any good books on stalin/stalin's russia? soviet russia is my topic for history coursework and i need some good sources
just read what you are interested in, so if you are troubled about sleep, read books about sleep, if you have an interest in philosophy, read russels 'a history of philosophy', if you're curious about climate change look for the best one on that, or read a biography of someone you like!, non-fiction is so broad and it need not be boring, an autobiography i absolutely loved so much it moed me to tears was 'when breath becomes air'
Can anyone suggest me some good books on fiction/thriller/romance?
Bid time return
blackshirts and reds (parts of it)
j arch getty is a very reputable historian (ucla professor) too on the history of soviet russia
ahhh thank you :))
city of thieves is a very easy book to read and shows the hardships of the soviet union during the second world war, on both civilian and combative sides. i definitely recommend it if you want to read a book without tearing your hair out. it’s very entertaining, i read it in hs. not really a book you would cite but a book that will lead you to branches of suffrage.
j arch getty is definitely a better source tho. his publications are peer reviewed and very reputable
i might check that out, though im not sure as its fiction
but thank you for your recommendation nevertheless :)
nice, thank you :)
im gonna try looking into him at some point today
I had the same problems years ago and I found there's nothing wrong with searching words you don't know. Keep a dictionary or look them up online, you can even look for phrases too. Makes reading a slow process but it def enhances your vocabulary
Hi, can anyone tell me the best book he read that talks about how to offer a product or service and start his first business? Thanks in advance
There's no song in the queue for me to play. /add a song first.
I am too bad at understanding the things that i listen, i am dyslexic lol
Thank you tho!
Oh yeah you are right
Sorry i misunderstood
Lemme check
I couldn't find it in my Mother language but i think i can read it in english
Why didn't i think about this before..
The art of thinking clearly 2
Did someone ping me?
It is a struggle 😭
I know right..
Listening books would help me practicing but I want to understand that book well-
Yeah, I used shows and music rather than books
BC I wanted to understand what I was reading rather than guessing
Ohh I see
Accurate
Not gonna lie it is kinda cool bc I only understand stuff when I read so I don't have to got to school and stuff
I wish the rates were more balanced tho
I learned the alphabet 5 years ago-

anyone read zero to one by thiel? If so, is it worth the purchase/read?
Deep work by Cal Newport is pretty good
i generally read non fiction (which i otherwise am not a huge fan of) during exams to satisfy my urge to read books at the worst possible time 😭
the book "first they killed my father" was so haunting and good. it's about the Khmer rouge
thanks!!
Dune, 3-Body Problem, and anything by Clarke and Asimov
Just started reading Octavia Butlers books, would definitely recommend you check her out.
no longer human by dazai osamu. a tragicomic book
Hello, does some have 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene downloaded? I would appreciate, if you share it with me
No idea, it allowed me to do so simply as it would with smaller file.
it's because this server has enough nitro boosts to where the upload is upped to 50MB for all members.

the George Orwell one right? it’s on my list! haven’t read it yet🥹

it's decent ✨

Atomic Habits is good. Some people can't stand it but I find it useful...
I wanna read something about ikigai. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Dear people. I'm looking for an advanced manual in post graduate-level statistics, econometrics, or more generally statistics for economics. Do you have any recommandations?

the character explores an infinity of possibilities about her life and we can draw beautiful conclusions
by my pov ofc haha
Does anyone know any Nordic authors that write Detective novels?
hey guys
Currently reading Fooled by Randomness by Nassim Taleb. Highly Recommended. I like books that turn conventional wisdom on its head. In the vein of Freakonomics, Sapiens, and Outliers. Any recommendations for more stuff like that?
Hey do you have a copy of that book?
wow my lecturer recommended this.. i should probably read it
i was just put off by how he supposedlt abuses statitics.. but my lecturer has a phd in stats so he's probably not that bad
oh yeah, i recommend, "thinking, fast and slow"
It is more philosophical than about statistics, which makes its easier to approach if you don't have a background in probability and statistics (like me). Often we use probability and statistics to tell a story about some absolute truth which we use to forecast future events without taking into account factors like bias and fallacy. The author can come off as arrogant at times but he is brilliant.
oh i got you.. the book i recommended is the exact same but psychological haha.. i think i'll love this then
I dont rememberwho it is. About deep work. You can try the one thing. It is nice book too. bye
Psychology of Money, really interesting stories and ideas
this is no longer allowed in the discord now so be careful about that
I can't share links here, but just know that it exists in tor, and there are mirrors online
if someone needs it, dm me

Someone share the pdf for the book please
Does anyone have atomic habits pdf?thanks
Hey how about discussing the book instead of just downloading it?????
might be a controversial opinion but i prefer this from George Orwell than 1984 🤷♀️
Anyone here, that likes reading haruki murakami and want to discuss some things abt the books? I almost read every book so im familiar with his reading and intepretations.
I just started kafka on the shore and I am really enjoying the book so far
I am thinking of trying other stuff from murakami after I finish it
Yea that book was nice nice!
What other books from him would you recommend?
Hm i think haruki Hits definitely when u are at the same age as the protagonist
There is also a chronologically order of the books so i would recommend reading it like that
But i particularly liked IQ84
But its a very long book if u have a problem with that🤷🏻♂️
definitively hook me up when u are finished with the book!
oh really I didn't know, I will keep that in mind
thank youu for letting me know
oo really nice
Does anyone have recommendations for books which give ideas or explicit instructions on how to regain focus or stay focused in general? I read Deep Work by Cal Newport which was helpful but would like to read more different perspectives on that topic.
oh i love his work, my fav is 1Q84 too. Currently I'm reading men without women
Nice you have to tell me how u liked it when u finished!! Something i want to ask u: Are u a type of reader that thinks abt the storie after u read the book. Like revise it in ur brain and think abt the little details? For example i make little notes on every page i like, with sentences that are inspiring or sth like that.
I will read this soon. Right know I found another focus/concentration book, its called Indistractable by Nir Eyal
Is there a chronological order through the different stories, or do u mean the chronological order dependent on the release date of each book? I read Norwegian Wood and Kafka on the Shore and want to read 1Q84 next.
A chronological order of the stories ✌️✍🏻
Nice reading iq84 will be fun!!!👌
I will! Yeah, I always wonder about other possibilities of the ending, sometimes I can’t forget about some parts of the book after reading it. Some details leave impressions on me whether it’s good/bad. Also yes I always annotate my book, wbu?
Lets discuss privately✌️
I looked it up on tor but it says its the web adress is taken over by the FBI too…
Is there anything setting kn tor i have to activate before searchin? I also search with duckduckgo inside tor is that maybe the problem?
no
go to this
u will have to sign in
then u can use it
T u
Hello does anyone have the pdf of this book: starting a business for dummies by Colin Barrow. I would be so grateful to have it. I've been looking everywhere for it, can't find it. Thanks in any case 💜
ikigai is a boring book
i saw from james' goodreads reviews that stolen focus is better than deep work

It Didn’t Start with You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How to End the Cycle, by Mark Wolynn
Does anyone have 'so good that they can't ignore you' by Cal Newport?
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a beginner? Any genre is fine

Thank you so much will try!
I felt like it focussed more on spirituality and stuff that's what made me ask the question haha but thank you!
Anyone has report writing project on semi conductor war between America and China
Not specifically for students but the books of David Goggings are such a awesome read!
That dude have beaten all the odds that were clearly extremely against him
Yep I heard about it. Just backed out cause of all the controversies around it misogyny and stuff
Haven't noticed any in the books
Oh ok, then I’ll order
I am really curious where you found the misogyny stuff tho
I am reading Can't Hurt Me and I've been told the begining is misogyny
Haven't notice any of that
What I have read so far is David Goggins telling his childhood, which is pretty terrifying
it is in the latter part of the book where you can observe such sexist remarks from him, indicating 'pussy' or 'vagina' as weakness.
does anyone have any book recommendations for anyone starting to program?
I recommend SICP, (Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs). It has really high quality teaching and it's great for understanding the core behind all programming. However, it pretty much uses its own language (Scheme), so you'll want to learn a more common language along the side
the online version was released for free
thank you so much!!
Any recommended audiobooks?
The Dracula audiobook, you can feel every single emotion in the main character's mind with the recording of the sentences.
in some ways yes, but they're also different. i recommend reading both because they compliment each other, but they're not really on the exact same topics
yup. i remember getting bored reading it because it felt very repetitive after a point and could've been shorter, but it made a lot of valid points. I'd recommend reading it even if you skim/skip skip the story sections
oh ok! then it's better to read a summary on some site... Thank you @floral beacon
yeah i'd say so tbh. it's not his most enjoyable read once it gets redundant, but he introduces a lot of wonderful concepts like deliberate practice and the craftsman mindset
okay... and I guess his 'Deep Work' has similar concepts
I read it after deep work, and yeah you could relate stuff to it, but this one was more career-related
does anyone have it starts with us by collen hoover?
i do, it's a good book. although i do find most of the story... concerning
Can you tell who is the author of stolen mind ?

How is "The Psychology of Money" by Morgan Housel
Awesome!
It is very easy to understand. It doesnt have complex words to comprehend. I've enjoyed the book myself. I found myself applying what the books suggested very easily.
Highly recommended

Enjoy it

Norwegian wood is his best work imho. The wind-up bird chronicle is banger but ending. My gf have read the trilogy that have ended on dance dance dance, she said it was pretty good
This vibe of his novels is surreal, the most immersive piece of art I've ever expirienced
yes me, I read book 1, now I`m reading book 2
Just finished his first novel today, now reading #2. Also read Norwegian Wood and Kafka, love them all so far.
i liked norwegian wood, but i think wind up or kafka is my favourite, although i’m only 3 1/2 ish murakami books down so that could change
i so agree, they definitely have a quality to them that i haven’t experienced with other books i’ve read
how far did u come?
i’m about 20 chapters in, and i like it so far
alright, yeah one question i always ask me when i read murakami is "what the actual f***?" and think also something like "this makes absolutely no sense, but hes telling it like its making sense wtf" and things like "im completly and absolutely confused right now" and really like that 🙂
that’s a pretty good way of summarizing it lol. yeah there are definitely wtf and slightly disturbing moments in some of his books, it’s pretty gritty at parts. but then i love the
wtf what is going on, this isn’t making any sense, but in a good way ahahaha, so that same as you // i guess if it was too easy to understand nothing would be left to interpretation or to your imagination of what you think is happening
definetly!!! also really like ur profil pic bro, princess mononoke is a great movie, all ghiblis are great tbh hahha!!!!
thank u :) and heck yeah, i love ghibli sm!!! princess mononoke, whisper of the heart, and only yesterday are my favs, although i basically love all of them a lot ahahaha
which are your favs? im listening to some of the soundtracks rn doing some homework lol, theyre just as important as the movie themselves imo!!
safe of course and i really like the classical music in the films and since i read murakami i noticed it in the films too and how harmonic it feels with the landscapes of the panitings from hayao myazaki, this man is a legend, quote "i wanna die while im making an anime", u have to love him haha
my favs are princess monooke, Porco Rosso and castle in the sky haha
hi, I struggle a lot with finding time in between school, books and studying. do you have any recs at what time etc. you have the time/motivation etc. to read? c:
also does somebody have random philosophy book recs? preferably shorter books >200 pages
hi, I used to struggle with the same thing "time" (and I still do sometimes lmao) having a busy schedule isn't easy so I understand you. what I can advise you is try reading e books since they are easy to carry around. For example you are coming home from school and you are on the bus, you are in a queue, you are on the toilet, having a snack, before bed, in school breaks you can pull out your phone and read. I know it might seem like nothing but trust me that at the end of a week you will find that you are even half way through a book =)
Everything Albert Camus for a quick and relaxing read. If you enjoy him, you could check out Jean-Paul Sartre. Similar philosophical stream, but a bit more complex imo.
ooo nice selection! i love castle in the sky and porco rosso too. and ahahahah yeah miyazaki truly is a genius and slightly crazy but we still love him lol
he was so mean to his son but after seeing about earwig i don’t blame him LOL
Thank you 🙏🏼
tyvm, I'll try it out :))
tyvm, I've read 1-2 books from each and found them very interesting .
I can recommend Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and Marcel Proust
crazy, thank u too i didnt expect that there is another website like z.lib
thank you so much! :))
i'm gonna start to read Haruki Murakami books
do you guys have any recommendations for me?
Tokio blues (Norwegian Wood), for me it's the best book of murakami :]
sputnik sweetheart, men without women, 1Q84
Norwegian Wood for sure, 1Q84 is cool but longer, just like Killing Commendatore but they are both really good
ok guys, thank u so much :)
do u know what haruki wanted to tell us with the book, killing commendatore bro? I read it and had no clue what to do with the storie after it...
i found that in a interview and i really liked that quote so here it is: "Murakami: Some believe that the internet or Facebook will replace storytelling. Not me. We've been telling stories for millennia, it's a mighty tradition. The internet doesn't have that.
NO IDEA honestly ahhahaha all of his books are so intricate that sometimes I don’t even bother trying to really understand them
Maybe there are some explanations on Reddit
Thank god for that tbh
I just finished “ The Idiot” by Dostoyevsky and I can’t recommend it enough.. I know that the more popular ones are “Karamazov brothers” and “Crime and Punishment”, but character of the prince is so amazing..
a little late but my favourites are the wind up bird chronicle and kafka on the shore !
this is my next murakami book ahahaha i was looking at a used book store the other day and the unfortunately didnt have it
thank u so much :)
as someone transitioning into digital minimalism and getting off social media i def agree murakami; i like that quote too
Looking for a book thats similar to the institute by Stephen King, the first half of the book was great in my opinion
the stranger and the myth of sisyphus by camus are some of my favorite books of all time
yeah it is
can I post the tor link for z-lib
i tried it out and it didnt work
recommendation of a wholesome book for someone who is just starting to read?
wholesome being a little romance comedy mix
not too much into romance but some part of it
loved the stranger ,thank you
do you like romance / mystery?
yeah sure
Any book recommendations?? I just started reading books by reading ikigai , and it is my type one. So i looks books which are about getting close with nature and self development books led to find oneself
I am not into fiction
man's search for meaning by victor frankl could be a good read. I enjoyed notes from the underground - by dostoevsky as well
For a first ever murakami book id recommend After Dark, if you do like that read Norwegian Wood or Kafka on shore
I recommend After Dark always for first time Murakami readers because its very short and can be done in 1 sitting. However, there is no right or wrong. Just a personal opinion
There is also a hidden gem not a lot of Murakami readers know. Very small short story book called "Birthday Girl" Id also recommend it to anyone whos interested in a 40 page book.

great ty
Paper Towns by John Green isa great one
oh okay I'll try it
if you could suggest 2-3 more like this that would be great as I'll have options
Turtles all the way down also by John green has the same vibe
cool cool I'll check these out...thanks!
i was thinking of reading norwegain wood first, but after dark aroused my interest
thanks for your recommendation!!
hi. good book to learn japanese language
anyone got any recommendations for a standard arabic language learning book?
I love Yuval Noah Harari, I read all the books. Any book recommendations that have the same type of topics and writing?
idk if it's good or not because I've never read these books but check out the entire collection "Japanese from zero"
I think it will help you with learn Japanese language
Actually, I've learned from YouTube, but I also want a recommended book too
ty
Hey, the book series 十分で読める伝記 is really good. Its basically a bunch of autobiographies. If you’re just starting out, i would recommend the 1st or 2nd grader version.
hey i have a pdf of a japanese textbook i can share with you. i havent used many so i cant gage how great it is lol but it helped me a good amt when i was studying it and i thought it was pretty decent
can someone recommend me a gud book abt life?
guys my friend just wrote a book.. your support is really appreciated.. if you're interested i will type the summary CRIMSON DESPAIR is the story about a former theater actor, who's now been accused of the murder of an up and coming actor; without any apparent reason. The motives and reasons unfold as the accused converses with the interrogating officer.
The accused Amitava, unable to suffer from his guilt and fear of retribution, had previously surrendered himself to the police. But then pleaded not guilty before the court. Quite suddenly however, Amitava proposes the deal that he'll confess to the crime if the officer agrees to be an audience to the last act he wishes to present before him. Not an ordinary act in any way, through monologues he wishes to narrate his motives and desires which led him to commit the dreadful crime.
After seeing his way of profiting in the situation, the officer agrees, albeit with some skepticism. What the officer does not know is the secret ploy in store by the theater actor convicted for murder.
The story however doesn't deal itself with the question of " who committed the murder" but rather questions " why "
dm
king george what was his problem
middle school CLASSIC
oversimplified but generally summarizes the war well for being under 200 pages
waves of nostalgia
just read norwegian wood and kafka, then you're basically done with murakami 🙂
it's said that you can play bingo with the themes and character portrayals in Murakami's works cuz hes really repetitive haha
norwegian wood and kafka are his best, once you've read them you can kind of be done with him bc his other stuff is similar and... not quite as good (imo)
i am aware that this is kind of a based take lmao
i think 1Q84 is good too
based take or not, it's the truth :p
source: tried reading other books after norwegian wood and kafka
tried
I’ve read wind/pinball, after the quake, and I’m reading the elephant vanishes now
If I want to get the most out of him should I read Norwegian wood and Kafka last?
Love it
reading norwegian wood last isnt a bad idea because its great, u'll be leaving murakami on a good note
but theres loads of other pieces of japanese fiction out there beyond murakami
i would recommend Kōbō Abe, Osamu Dazai and Jirō Akagawa
right
thanks, i appreciate it
can you also share with me pls?
honestly i liked 1Q84, kafka, and the wind up bird chronicle all more than norwegian wood, it was still good but i definitely don’t think it was his best
Can you send me pls?
how's "the pathology of everyday life" by Freud?
can anyone recommend me books about intro physics??? I am going to start learning physics 😄
Omg someone just rec me this ..I’m so excited to read it
This will be my first book of him
its great:)
Is dostoyevsky better or murakami
And is leo Tolstoy better or Kafka
each of them has their unique qualities, if you prefer realism than i'd say go for Dostoevskij or Tolstoj, if you prefer something more fictional and adventurous go for Murakami. I haven't read Kafka yet so i can't judge his works TT
imo dostoyevsky is miles better than murakami. Idk about the tolstoy/ kafka comparison though I haven't read any kafka
dostoyevsky's stuff is quite long but not gratuitously so. it requires quite a lot of patience and reading stamina to read his work but definitely worth it!
i agree with @velvet tree tho if you're into more adventurous stuff definitely opt for murakami. Dostoyevsky is very philosophical and introspective and quite heavy
but if you're into that you'll love his books
agreed :))
i think I will like Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy @velvet tree and @slate bolt can you tell me where I should start with Dostoyevsky and tolstoy and which english translation is good
If you want a light read of Dostoevskij then White Nights would be perfect, if you want to start with the more "serious" works then go straight for Преступление и наказание (i forgot the english title TT).
As for Tolstoj I recommend Anna Karenina, it's a tragic romance to keep it short but all the characters are described wonderfully
There's also War and Peace but it's quite long
Anna Karenina is long too, but i found it more interesting TT
i have bought war and peace its on my desk
Oh only Macbeth if i'm honest :,)
they're interesting, sometimes a bit hard to read especially if you're reading a translation.
ohhkay have you read albert camus
No I haven't TT
by the way sorry for asking too many questions Don have you read Don Quixote, if you dont wanna answer its okay
It's alright!! but no i haven't read that either 🥹
i remember that an actor performed a one-man show for my class once that was based on one of his works though, i don't remember much of it tbh TT
just that the actor wore a silly bard costume i liked
ohh ohh and thanks for your recommendations
Crime and Punishment!
thank u 😹
If Dostoevskij then Karamazov Brothers it's good too
have you read kafka's works
Misery by Stephen king is chefkiss
does anyone have the pdf of norwegain wood??
I just started reading Norwegian wood and so is everybody
idk sorry
i dont think it is
Franz Kafka? In High school we had to read The Trial. It was really good

Ok

I'm learning English, which book would you recommend me to read?
do you want a book that teaches you english in your own language with examples, or do you want a book written in english that will help you improve your comprehension skills for general reading? kinda depends on what language level you are at right know
Short easy stories
U can find them in book stores
I had a collection of stories like this my English teacher in highschool recommended them for us they are fun with easy words and around 50 pages only
And u can pick one based on ur level
For example this story
And it has activities at the end that can help u understand the story even more
And vocabulary
https://learnenglish-new.com/short-stories-in-english-for-beginners-pdf/ u can visit this website
I highly recommend limitless by jim kwik. The book has fixed the following problems for me : Sleepproblems, concentration problems, motivation problems, schedule problems, morning routine implemented, memorizing methods, learning methods, speed reading, and alot more dynamic methods that fit into your lifestyle. All scientifically proven methods.
thanks! will take a look at it
If you have any questions u can dm me
All the problems I had felt so chronic and fixed, but if you apply the methods from the book it'll change your perspectives its insane
I will give it a try too then
Hello guys. I want to improve my social intellegence. I want to understand the behaviour of the others and powerful social concepts, like listening people, have an open body language etc..., to emprove empathy, to be aware of unusual social habits of other people and also to be able to behave myself accordingly to my aims - to make a girl love me, to be a leader in my circle of friends, to inspire other to work harder. What books do you guys recommend me to read? I have read the 48 laws of power and how to win and influence poeple so far on this topic
I feel like gaining social intelligence has to do with unlimiting yourself, gaining self confidence and working on yourself, rather than studying others.
maybe you'd be interested in something like this https://www.amazon.nl/Six-Pillars-Self-Esteem-Definitive-Leading/dp/0553374397
I really recommend ‘Why We Sleep’ by Matthew Walker. He’s a professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley.
It has really changed my perspective of sleep and the importance of it. Especially for those who want to begin making improvements in their life, the best way to start is by focusing on aspects of life we all share and all take part in (e.g sleep, diet)
In his book, he talks about the science behind sleep, the different types of sleep we get (NREM and REM) and what traits they foster, along with the implications of not getting enough sleep (many conditions associated with many organ systems) he also touches on many sleep myths and clarifies topics relating to sleep such as sleeping pills, napping, early waking vs late waking, dreaming (why and the importance of it) and others
Overall its a great book and it is backed by a lot of scientific evidence and clinical studies. There is a lot of content in there. I do recommend taking some quick notes in bullet points so you can always come back to revisit it.
I’m confident that if you manage to really harness the power of sleep, you’ll notice a change in your focus, productivity, emotional stability, and many other traits that are useful for navigating whatever environment you’re in
Hey guys! for one of my classes I was tasked with making a survey. The survey I made is regarding book recommendations. If you want to help a fellow student out and maybe even get a cool book recommendation from me here's the link https://forms.gle/N4EWkTqvSBEAFxF67 (I only need like 3-4 responses) Thank you ! 🙂
@unreal idol I want to buy some books. What are the best books you have read?
scythe by Neal Shusterman so good
How to stop worrying and start living by Dale Carnegie
I really enjoyed Scythe and I'm waiting until I can read the entire trilogy!
i haven’t read too many books honestly, but i really liked kafka on the shore and the wind up bird chronicle by murakami. i’m trying to read 1 book a month so i’ll be better rehearsed with diff books out there
Thanks everyone ♥️
Wagner's tetralogy (Der Ring des Nibelungen)
Wowee thank you Benji! I'll definitely start reading that book, fantastic, sounds super interesting. Thank you!
what kind of books do you tend to like?
The meditations of marcus aurelius, cant hurt me, crime and punishment, βιος και πολιτια του αλεξη ζορμπα, that sums it up
the opera?
Yep
(Also, I'm trying to read it in German, because, like a certain Italian once said "Traduttore, Traditore")
kazantzakis is an incredible writer!
@fresh trellis everything
Love that guy, my grandma has one of the first editions from the 60s
Sometimes im proud to be greek
agreed :))
Hey guys i need a book for calculus, i want lecture & practice
what exactly in calculas
i would like to learn everything cause i just want learn new things
i'm sorry for my grammar mistakes
although the title is a little degrading, calculus for dummies by mark zegarelli has good practice with very easily understandable explanations
if you’re interested in the history of calculus, infinite powers: how calculus reveals the secrets of the universe by kirk borne was intriguing
This shit a banger 10/10
Feel like im losing my mind along with raskolnikov when im reading it
hey pasha, do you got the pdf of this book?
Well, it is Dostoevsky after all
True
Love that guy
I have the hardcover
any recs on mindfulness?
interested too!
we just gotta wait for suggestions then
deal. I'll bring snacks.
The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (A Toltec Wisdom Book) Paperback – November 7, 1997 might be a good one for mindfulness
I was looking at if I should buy the book but I have 8 books to complete and I promised myself not to buy any more books until I read the books I have 😄
any audiobook recommedations? im listening to cant hurt me, and it seems to be much better than the actual book
hello, are there any book recommendations about being alone? like how you handle and accept it or something like that
Never finished from david goggins is insane
i bought it, its last on my list but I cant wait
That's tough man I know how it feels, I think you're not trying to cope and "accept" being alone. Maybe you're trying to find something to progress in / productivity / goals to keep you occupated which will make you happier in the long run, is this true
Good vibes good life
Ikigai
Some unpopular ones :
Don't believe everything you think
Think straight
Books by Ruskin Bond
Maybe you should talk to someone (psychology kinda)
A million thoughts (bit spiritual)
I guess im kinda overwhelmed, im on my first year of college and all my friends went to different universities. It does not help that I have social anxiety and I cant seem to connect with the new people around me, so I thought maybe im meant to be alone
thank you for the recommendation, ill buy the physical book instead of reading it on my phone
I like your pfp btw. Go power.
I really like ‘The Lonely City’ by Olivia Laing.
It isn’t a very straightforward book and it prompts a lot of self-reflection, but I personally find a lot of value in that. It takes time to appreciate the feeling of being in your own company and being comfortable in your own skin
a very depressing one too, after every tome, i had to sit in my room to recover from the sadness lol
thank you so much for the recommendation!
where the snacks at >:))
🫡🥜🌰🥯🥞🧇🌭

I really recommend 'The Earned Life' by marshall goldsmith
Epic of Gilgamesh audiobook on YouTube 🗿
Did you read it ?
sort of, I haven't finished though, I had just read more now on break
looks intresting thank you @deep ocean 🥰
good recommendation
Thank you:)
Where did the website message went , the websites to download books were pinned in it
I don’t understand what is so special about crime and punishment, I’ve read about 3 chapters and I know that it portrays emotions and thoughts in magnificent detail but still, what’s so special?
Bro you’ve read 3 chapters
Its like a 450 to 600 page book depending on which version you get
I've started reading crime and punishment thinking i wouldn't like it. It was established fact cuz it was a classic and i dont like them. But somehow i managed to finish it and it was an amazing journey. Never in my life i thought i will like this type of book. Truly a masterpiece no questions asked. The psychoanalysis, everything... it's so good. Give it a chance who knows, even if it takes months to finish.
Started reading this
hope u like it
Is it just me? I can't stand online pdf books
get an e-reader and read the books there in pdf/epub format
or what is ur issue with books in pdf format besides the screen
i guess you want to listen to it? i could provide you a epub file for reading though
same! it doesn't feel right reading on a pdf, I haven't tried an e-reader tho
Yea i understand this kinda, i cant read books on a standard pc monitor or a regular tablet. But last year I got my first relatively cheap e reader and its way better, you cant compare these kinds of screens with your phone or monitor. If you can try one do it, for me it made reading way easier and i tend to read more. When you get one, get an e.reader with android, it gives you more freedom to manage your books and you can read manga with tachiyomi for example if u r into it
Could someone recommend me a book about learning / getting knowledge? I'm looking for a book about the learning process, not about study techniques. I've read "Learning how to learn" from Bárbara Oakley
oh yeah, I was thinking probably listening to it is an easier way to finish it sooner.
ty tho i have the pdf file so there's no need
I've been through over 50 non-fiction books & 'The ONE Thing' was the best in terms of improvement from reading it. 'Extraordinary results are directly determined by how narrow you can make your focus. -Gary Keller
takeaways- hope this helps someone
art of learning by josh waitzkin was useful for me for skill acquisition
also the inner game of tennis is a bit specific, but good for athletic/performance things and can be translated to other non-physical skills too
the second option, i guess that i am in A2 level
oohh thanks, i'll see
this website is awesome
I hope it helps u
Does anyone have a book about meditation ?
I'm totally open minded, but have never been able to achieve this, so I'm sort of skeptical too (and being reminded everyday that you're a stressed guy doesn't help), but nonetheless willing to learn
I suggest reading the book *the miracle of mindfulness and Tunning into a new potential by Joe dispenza
However If ur looking for smth to meditate actually I think this app called *balance is really great it got many mediation plans for different level ( bigenner etc ) and single mediations for specific stuff like anxiety , procrastination , stress , sleep and many more
It's always the open minded needing meditation books
Cause open to everything no particular views of his own
Don't really get what you're going for here.
I can have views of my own, but, sometimes it might be a good thing to question it and explore other people's.
And this applies to a lot of things, I've discovered a lot that way.
thank you !
I'll check it out during my break
Looking for a good calm story book to read in breaks while at work
If you want to craft ur own views and identity, it is from high importance to be open for new ideas. When you just stay in your own lane and dont question ur own views and ideas you will fail to craft nuanced views. With different perspectives and broader knowledge you will be able to specify ur positions way better.
But yes to be to open minded (e.g. for some weird conspiracy etc.) wont bring you to this.
“Keep an open mind but not so open that your brain falls out.”
That was my point
Not so open
Believing in everything means following nothing
the audio?
I recommend not to read any slef help books.
"self help" books
Read the classics, it will shape you, it will break you and it will transform you, permanently.
Yea man
can u send the file or the link so i can download it too
I can’t get can’t hurt me right now, but I can give you “never finish” audiobook right now
Can you pm me that? Ive read cant hurt me but dont have the time to read never finished rn
ok guys, I'm sold on audio books, any must-listen recommendations ?
Sure
Alr
the courage to be disliked by fumitake koga, its basically a conversation between two people so i think the audiobook format will do it justice

What app do y'all use to read ebooks on android ?
Bram Stoker - Dracula
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Viktor Frankl - Man's Search for Meaning
Chinua Achebe - Things Fall Apart
Nietzsche
Man’s search for meaning is one of the most heart touching and emotion evoking book I’ve ever read
just bought it :D
Carl sagan - The Demon haunted world: science as a candle in the dark
^My favorite book of carl sagan. It is like the bible, so to speak, for rationality and the scientific way of thinking.
dn
I would recommend anyone who likes fantasy/mystery books to check out The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. It's about a private investigator/wizard in modern-day Chicago. Its my all time favorite book series so far.
Pocketbook reader’s pretty good
Hi, is it safe ?
i think its only really accessible for people with accounts from before it went away tho (?)
nope, still can register new accounts
sup. I read the stranger by albert camus a month ago or so & have been unable to get it out of my mind since, especially after beginning to read the myth of sisyphus. I highly recommend it if you want to read something that boggles your mind a little.
Those are two of my favorite books of all time. Camus is my favorite philosopher
You have to go to the onion address
thanks haha
I am still to finish tmos but it has brought great insight & has calmed many doubts I've had for literal years. it's crazy how books can affect us that way. I have the first man lying around waiting for me to pick it up. I'm sure it'll be great too.
hi i have a really good book and i hope i don't get banned because of the name but it is a real thing it is called
"The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck" by Mark Manson
it helped me to know that finding something important and meaningful in your life is the most productive use of your time and energy. This is true because every life has problems associated with it and finding meaning in your life will help you sustain the effort needed to overcome the particular problems you face.
Yea I’ve read that, but it’s overrated acc to me
the theory of everything book, vv nice
Sophie's World, by Jostein Gaarder
if you like philosophy but hate when nothing make sense this book get rid of that by shaping it into a story
Couldn’t agree moree
just got an e reader 😳 what books should i load first??
check james's vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqIwwomreJ8
Wierd lol, how was it?
Not as good as cant hurt me, it was decent though
It mainly built on the foundation that cant hurt me laid

The way of effortless mindfulness
I feel like James community would really appreciate The Glass Bead Game, it’s my favorite book of all time and has some profound insights on spirituality, excellence in education, western society. Definitely worth it though it will seem archaic at first
one of my favourite books of all time is snow country by yasunari kawabata
peeps, self-help recs stat :3

hey ! has anyone be reading jordan peterson's books?? are they good ??
hi! ive recently been looking to buy "the symposium" by plato. could anyone recommend a specific version of it? is the penguin one alright? or is there a better one out there?
Tbh I've been hesitant to read his books but idk maybe someday
ok buddyb
penguins are fine
they are pretty amazing. Highly recommend, especially 12 rules for life
I've read 12 rules for life and it was a difficult read. It's a little complex and he explains the rules using Bible references and you have to understand the rules yourself
ok
yes yes
Did anyone read “ who moved my cheese? ” how’s it ?
I just readd pearl, it is a quick 1 hour- 30 min read, and it is a short but well described book about greed
I've read: Atomic Habits, Deep Work
Now reading: Start With Why
Next book: Stumbling On Happiness.
Does anyone have any similar book/books recommendation?
Start with why is mostly focused on business, i didn't got much from it
Yeah it gets a bit annoying with all the business things
Try reading
- 7 habits of highly effective people
- How to make friends and influence people
- Eat that frog
- The 5am club
- Do epic shit
I kind of understand how it applies IRL though. U can get most of the tips for ur daily life
should I get the revised and updated version of #1?
Alright, thanks for the recommendations :)
its a parable about change. my bfs boomer manager parents lent it to me so it's from an older generation but still fun.
i finished https://www.amazon.com/Discipline-Destiny-Power-Self-Control-Virtues/dp/0593191692 There are two important things I learned from this book. One is to set boundaries and keep my private life private. It says by oversharing our private life, you let people drag us down into the much and you will end up being entangled in other people’s dysfunctions. It’s so true because I once overshared my private life to a gym staff who talked to me, and he started harassing me lol. Second, I should never content with my progress because it leads to ego, but i can be content with the fact that i am making my progress!! This book contains too much lessons and state examples of whom isn’t like ordinary people, but there are a lot of great lessons we can learn and use! 4 out of 5!
Thanks for sharing your learnings
thank you for reading!!😊
GOAT GOAT GOAT

hi! does anyone have any books suitable for learning german (intermediate level), japanese (advanced level) or ancient greek (complete beginner— i havent found many useful books at all for this yet 😭 ) ? thank u!
why would u wanna learn ancient greek u are gonna ruin urself
as a greek, we get taught at school but everyone just doesnt care about it
i thought it would be a challenge lol! plus would really love to read plato and whatnot without translation 😊
thats a shame! it seems like such a beautiful language !
well yeah it's very useful, as a greek, to know the language because it also helps in modern Greek
but man, modern greek is already complicated as it is. Ancient greek is so much harder
sadly, i dont know any ancient greek books that are in english to recommend to u.
thats alright! tysm for the insightt ^^ <3
Here's the audio book of
Never finished - David Goggins
https://t.me/davidgogginsbooks
It's free ✌️
also plato is very hard to read. U are gonna need a lot of practice to get to the point of reading him without struggling.
I dont mean to scare you. I just want to give u an idea of what ur up against xd
true! i've read some in english before, and they can be quite convoluted. i've really enjoyed them once i got the point though lol!
also, since before u said u wanted to learn japanese, may i suggest みんなの日本語 (minna no nihongo) ? its helped me lots!! :)
I will keep that in mind, thanks.
I might find something in the basement from my dad's old books. He frequently went to Japan for business so I guess he must have a learning book xd
there is two books of self improvement and life changing that i can compare to atomic habits due to how good they are :
-who moved my cheese by spencer jhonson
-rich dad poor dad by robert kiyosaki
any thoughts on the book 'Ikigai - the Japanese secret to a long and happy life'?
Some happy news :-z lib back again
Overrated, it's like a tour of the Japanese village with very old people and what they do to live longer. It's like a guide to increase your age (like getting a purpose in life, eating healthy, exercises)
Good and positive read but if you have any other options then skip ikigai
Alright thanks for the input :))
amazing
thoughts on the book 'everything i never told you' by Celeste Ng?

Hey guys, what book would you recommend to someone who doesn’t understand mathematics but is willing to get into it?
I’m 18, and I REALLY need to start learning mathematics because I suck at it very bad but everything seems so overwhelming and I just don’t know where to start and how,so I thought a book could help get me started.
Does anyone know a good book to learn Wordpress?

Anyone who has some recommendations for books that are cybercrime/cybersecurity related? Thanks!
does anyone know a good book with a story like animal farm and 1984
communist manifesto (half joke)
i'm not talking about the theme i wanted a one with a story but thx for the recommendation
Crime and punishment
Brave new world
I can second Brave New World. Other recommendations are "Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury" or "We by Yevgeny Zamyatin". Especially We I would recommend simply because the authors of Brave New World and 1984 were heavily inspired by the ideas in We
I either read “We”, and it was amazing, it’s one of the first anti-utopia books in the genre, so it’s worth to read
heyy any thoughts on "heaven" by Mieko Kawakami
Can someone recommend some self-dev book titles that give us the ways/methods to reach our goals?
- 7 habits of highly effective people
- 48 laws of power
- Eat that frog (for time management)
About 7 habits: its a bit repetitive if im going to be honest, for me its a 3.75/5. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good book but i feel like there are quite a few undefined terms as far as principles go (principles, not habits)
Atomic habits is a really good book too
I think so too, aside from some repetitive phrases, it is actually quite a good book. I always read it once every month haha
Totally agree
ill start doing this, 1 of the few self help books that i care about..., i just read it a long time ago so i forget
Atomic Habits
(Changed my entire life as a 15 year old)
