# terse aurora anyone with mouse recommendations wired or wireless ?

I've been using steelseries prime mini wireless version for almost 2 years now and it has been a great choice. Really cheap, responsive, battery lasts so long and you can use it while its charging. Doesn't have a bluetooth but comes with a usb-c dongle. The only downside is that its pretty loud, so no way you can use it in a quiet place or during class. Its a gaming mouse btw that I've been using for both productivity and gaming.

# dry fractal Hi everyone, I'm new here. Could you share what kind of study light you use? I a...

if you need something simple (just light) buy something with cold and warm colors(or light, i dont really have big knowlage at that topic), (or warm only if you study only at the darkness) but if you have wireless charging on phone, you may also try out something with a charger (that will eventually work with your phone).

if speaking simply, do not buy something very expensive, just a simple warm light.

me personally what took me long is identifying the class elements using f 12, because theres a whole tree of classes under inspector, so i had to manually check every div class to find the actual element

i need a crt monitor so bad

too bad they are like non-existant in my country

they kinda look the same

i ditched arch for artix on my main pc because systemd

#

i also corebooted it

#

I also have these three as well

weary swallow
#

is that windowmaker on gentoo?

sullen sky
#

yup

weary swallow
#

woah

#

so do u use both i3 and windowmaker or...?

sullen sky
#

i use windowmaker on the x61

#

and i3 on everything else

#

hyprland if i need wayland

weary swallow
#

why would you need wayland?

weary swallow
#

i cant live without all my devices using the same wm

sullen sky
#

yeah same kinda

#

i use i3 binds on hyprland tho lmao

#

so its easier

weary swallow
#

thats fair

#

i also use dwm binds on cwm

sullen sky
#

ooh yeah

#

oh yeah

#

i forgot

#

my t430 also runs my own wm

#

sometimes

weary swallow

weary swallow

sullen sky

yeah kinda

weary swallow

also abandoned it pretty quicjly

a lot of the base code was taken from dwl

turns out cwm is good enough

sullen sky

but i wanna rewrite it for xorg

weary swallow
#

crazy

sullen sky
#

for something that looks so old

#

idk why i did wayland

weary swallow
#

yh i tried making a wayland compositor too but you rlly need wlroots for that

#

and that was not fun

sullen sky
#

yeah wlroots is not nice

#

i just have an sh script which compiles it

#

because package managers hate it

weary swallow
#

nowadays theres also neuswc which is a better librqry, but it barely has compatability with all major protocoks

sullen sky
#

oh yeah true

weary swallow
sullen sky

weary swallow
sullen sky
#

oooh

#

pretty clean

#

what are you running bedrock for lmao

weary swallow
#

which is a mess on voidlinux

sullen sky
#

oh yeah right

weary swallow
#

but yeah i barely use bedrock features anymore

sullen sky
#

voidlinux is lowkey like

#

idk

#

maybe it has changed since 2021

#

but i remember it had like no packages

weary swallow
#

compared to arch maybe yes?

sullen sky
#

yeah

#

artix is nice

#

but you kinda need to fight the init system

weary swallow
#

but i have like everything i need here except for super niche programms

sullen sky
#

setting up ly was a pain

weary swallow
#

i have autologin setup with no display manager

sullen sky
#

ooh yea

#

on my x61 i just manually run the wm

weary swallow
#

but artix felt too unstable, i mean its based on arch and then with a different init system hacked in

sullen sky
#

your right

#

it hasnt randomly broken on me though

weary swallow
# sullen sky on my x61 i just manually run the wm

i use .zprofile for that

if grep -q l <<< "$-" && test "$(tty)" = '/dev/tty1'; then
    rm -rf "$HOME"/.config/service-env
    cd
echo 'Press return to start gui'
    read && exec dbus-run-session "$HOME/.winit"
fi
sullen sky
#

its just a pain setting up some stuff

weary swallow
sullen sky
#

damn

#

i've been using arch

#

since

#

2022?

#

and it hasnt randomly broken

#

if something breaks its usually because i did it lmao

weary swallow
sullen sky
#

lmao fair

weary swallow
#

fair xd

#

i also broke so many installs back then

#

when i was stil learning

sullen sky
#

lmao same

#

i remember

#

when i was like

#

12

#

i was using manjaro

weary swallow
#

LOL SAME

sullen sky
#

and

#

i thought arch had more aura

weary swallow
#

i disto hoped all the time

sullen sky
#

but i was too dumb to install it

weary swallow
#

wow

sullen sky
#

SAME

weary swallow
#

wow i relate

sullen sky
weary swallow
#

i even wanted gentoo once

sullen sky
#

hacked my manjaro into arch

#

changed the repos and shit

#

and all that

#

even changes the neofetch logo

weary swallow
#

looool

sullen sky
#

just for the arch aura

weary swallow
#

just edit /etc/os-release ;)

sullen sky
#

i did lmao

#

then like a few days later i installed arch

weary swallow
#

there wasnt archinstall back then?

sullen sky
#

i think there was

#

but nobody knew about it

weary swallow
#

or i think it was but not preinstalled

#

it was only in AUR

sullen sky
#

or maybe you had to manually install it

weary swallow
#

yes

sullen sky
#

i think there was another arch install script too

#

i remember using it at some point

weary swallow
#

theres probably a ton

#

i used it too

#

nowadays finally found my home in the void

sullen sky
#

but the first arch install i did manually

weary swallow
sullen sky
#

dayum

#

i tried nix at some point

#

and like

#

i dont see the appeal

weary swallow
#

eeh you should read the phd thesis leading up to the creation of nix

#

i only read the introduction but it helped me realize the reason for nix

#

i still dont think its good for a personal setup, but rather for enterprises or servers

sullen sky
#

yeah true

weary swallow
#

if only it was faster

sullen sky
#

i always thought gentoo was like

#

not worth it

weary swallow
#

everything is pinned to a specific version so installing takes forever

weary swallow
sullen sky
#

like 5% proformance for like hours of time

#

but i installed it on my x61

#

and the speed difference was massive

#

compared to arch

#

like wtf

weary swallow
#

hmmmm

sullen sky
#

i get that its ancient

#

and missing a good few cpu instructions

#

but still

weary swallow
#

did you optimize it?

#

or what did you optimize?

sullen sky
#

i mean gentoo is like

#

thats the whole thing

#

use flags and all

weary swallow
#

but just useflags can only do so much

#

is that really noticable already?

#

isnt most overhead from filesystem operations

sullen sky
#

i dunno

#

maybe on modern hardware

#

like you are compiling stuff specifically for your hardware

#

and when its everything compiled

#

it adds up

weary swallow
#

eeh maybe

#

but compilers need to be optimized for the hardware too

sullen sky
#

compile the compiler

weary swallow
#

thats... not how it works xd

#

the compiler needs to utilize cpu-specific instructions which require changes in the code

sullen sky
#

wdym

weary swallow
#

the compiler produces code for the cpu

#

but it first has to be coded, so it uses the cpu specific features to optimize

#

like it needs to recognize "oh this cpu supports the xyz instruction, i should use this here"

#

idk how much performance is gainable by compiling yourself really

sullen sky
#

-march=core2

weary swallow
#

then the compiler still needs to use the optimizations provided by core2

sullen sky
#

i mean

weary swallow
#

either way i think its kinda pointless with modern software. if i run a webbrowser on an old laptop its gonna be slow either way

sullen sky
#

it is compiling specifically for that instruction set

#

so what it compiles will use those instructions

sullen sky
#

but in my experence for super crappy hardware

#

or like

#

powerpc
