I had the same problem. I fixed it by deactivating steam cloud sync and starting the game then pressing the windows key + r. in the pop up I searched appdata, I then looked for the Playstack file. after clicking that I found the AK-xolotl file and clicked on it. I then deleted the file named SaveFiles. after I did that my game worked normally.
