Hi so I’m looking to repaint this because I messed up in more places than just here. What would be the best way to remove these layers of paint? Just sanding with higher grit sandpaper? Also what’s the strategy for good masking? Almost every time I do it I feel like everything’s covered but then I get spots like this. Lastly, how would you recommend I mask this gray band area? I tried putting tape under the little white lip there so the walls could stay white, but they were thick which prevented some of the gray from going where it needed to.

you can use liquid masking, you basically paint on a latex layer and spray your model, then peel the masking off.
you can paint wit very small brushes and get in every nook and crany

Ohhh so would I use that around the smaller parts then tape everywhere else?

only use tape to cover big area's, even just put paper on it with tape around, whatever you please, i just buy a bottle of liquid latex and paint all that i don't want to spray 1 litre of liquid latex is about 12 euro's over here.

enough to cover 10- iron man helmets

To mask the Grey area, apply masking that overlaps that valley between the two areas, then run your fingernail down the valley so it indents the masking tape, then run an exacto knives down the valley and peel off the excess.

To make sure you mask all the way, overlap your masking tape and apply pressure to make sure they seal. If you want to save masking tape, you can first mask the edge, then place plastic over the big remaining areas and use masking tape to connect those to the model and your masking boundary layer

Okay…. So with that method it would be easiest to have the gray as the base coat

Then the white afterwards

Yes. Grey base, mask that, then do white, then black. On the black always skew in the direction of too little since you can always touch it up with a fine tip brush.

Wet sand 400 grit until it's nice and smooth, then apply your Grey base coat.
