#I need help Upgrading

So I have had an Elegoo Neptune 4, not pro or max, for a little over 3 months. I got it super cheap off of a guy on Facebook marketplace because it was my first printer and I wanted too see if this was something that I wanted to get into, after having used it for 3 months it’s definitely something I love doing so I’m selling my Neptune 4 as of TOMORROW from writing this which is super exciting.

The reason for this post was because I genuinely have no idea what to upgrade too. I talked to some guys at my university and they all said doing the Bambi P1S since I want a multicolor changer and I would like to have a CoreXY machine.

I just watched @pearl thorn latest video on Bambu alternatives and especially with everything that I’ve hear about bambu, from both sides, one saying it’s nothing and the other saying they’re switching, my conviction has really dropped so I’m open to new alternatives. In the video it was mentioned that Elegoo is coming out with a CoreXY machine but to my knowledge they haven’t announced a multicolor system. But also the video said that Creality’s multi colored system is really good.

I remember in one of his windows Frankly said that the Bambu P1S was his favorite printer and the one he recommends to everyone but that video is 4 months old so I’m open to new alternatives especially with the P1S on pre order rn.

Thank you so much to anyone who gives their feedback and opinion.

recommending unreleased printers on reputation is not really a good thing

#

like flsuns newest printers non pros are shite

#

flux is not making printers anymore because they sucked

#

the question is what do you need or what do you want to do with

#

like colour change is nothing but a huge material waste

arctic lynx
#

I don't need anything and i'm just doing it for fun. I like printing stuff and i love the look of multicolored prints. I think it makes a lot of stuff look better and it makes it so i don't have to paint my prints to get different colors. I'm ok with the waste. While i don't like wasting material and money i think its a worth expense

vital bronze
#

okay i said it wrong. the waste is usally between 2 and 5 five times of the thing you print

#

depends a bit on the amount of colourchanges but its huge waste 😄

#

you can melt it down to plates though

arctic lynx
#

i've been seeing a lot of cool gadgets that are supposed to reduce the waste. None of them are good but i like the direction companies are taking

vital bronze
#

hmm okay

arctic lynx
#

but like i've seen people using benchys as the prime tower so the waste at least looks nice and i think it's a cool for the novelty of being able to print something in multicolors

vital bronze
#

purge into object or into print is something im not aware if its integrated currently into orca or super slicer i would nneed too look that up

#

any material wishes for the new printer?

arctic lynx
#

i saw it in a insta reel so you know more then i do

Not really, i just got into this 3 months ago so i want something that will let me learn. Which is why i was thinking the p1s over the p1p because it can do ABS which while idk what i would need to print with it, it allows the option meaning i can go learn and figure out what i want to print with it

vital bronze
#

okay orca bambu and prusa slicer can purge into infill or object as it seems. thats something

#

yeah for abs or asa you need a enclosed printer at best with a chamber heater but thats patend or a diy upgrade. passive heating can work but is limited in its range

#

in the end let me tell no matter what you buy ... 1 or 2 months later someone announces exactly what you wanted 😄

arctic lynx
#

So true! which is why i wanted to post after i JUST learned elegoo was making a coreXY printer....and maybe a color changer? If its cheaper then i p1s and it comes out soon then why not wait to buy till that gets released since i would be waiting for the p1s to ship in February anyway

vital bronze
#

its the choice between pest or cholera tbh. it could be that its a great printer ... or its a clone of a clone of a clone

#

while bambu also made the one or two mistakes (heatbedcable for a1 as example) i think unless you toss a lot of money onto it getting something better will be tough

#

sure there are add ons for colour changes like prusas mmu or the enraged rabbit carrot feeder

#

but they are diy and require tinkering with firmware

arctic lynx
#

i saw a video on the enraged rabbit and thats what made me want a bambu lol

vital bronze
#

id say you cant go wrong with bambu. there is currently some drama about 3rd party slicers and such but it has sofar only announcements and alligations

arctic lynx
#

Thats what i was told, i need to look into it so i can genuinely have an opinion because i don't know enough to have one at this moment.

#

what is your runner up for the p1s?

vital bronze
#

Qidi q4

arctic lynx
#

Awesome, i'll look into it. Appreciate it!

vital bronze
#

The k1 and k2 should be good too but its creality and i hate that brand with all my heart

#

So far they failed to make a printer that has not a design flaw thats fixed by a decade...

I just looked it. It looks awesome. But if I’m gonna spend that much it’s gonna be on a Bambu + the ams. That pricing is insane even if it’s for a really big build plate

vital bronze
#

You noticed crealitys major appeal 😄

#

Its cheap

If you like the multicolor prints, and want to factor that in as a main feature, then buy a Prusa XL with 5 toolheads, no wasted Kg 's of poop.
With just 1 toolhead you will produce a shitload of waste for every colorchange for every layer. . Switching heads is better, more economical since there will be no waste for colorswitching and 360x360x360mm buildvolume isn't too bad either. just try it out, with manual color change, how much do you need to extract to get a clean color out of the nozzle, double that for 2 colors on every layer. (tripple for 3 etc)
An ironman helmet multicolor print will end up causing 1.5 KG of poop.
That is a terrible waste.

If 1 helmet in 3-4 colors produces 1.5 Kg of poop, thats like 30 bucks worth of filament in waste that you have to pay for to get rid off, in production how much would that be on a yearly basis? 1000-1500 bucks?

#

the prusa xl saves you money in the end. I also think it's not worth 4500 dollars but that is my opinion, it is not set in stone either, but if you hate tinkering , (which I guess you do, because all the required tinkering is the main reason why you hate Creality)do not buy a prusa., it's basicaly a reprap, so the ultimate tinkering machine 😀

#

for $ 5,599.00 you can buy a Raise3D Pro3D plus 3D-printer that will allow you to print metal etc.

dry socket
#

But I'm not rich and I like to tinker, so I stick with creality

#

my first dlp resin printer was creality, still works fine, that LD-001.
untill today it still serves wel by printing aftermarket parts for model kits etc

vital bronze
#

here is currently a sinterit lisa complete kit at sale only 17k

arctic lynx
#

I would prefer it be the same price or cheaper then the P1S

arctic lynx
#

@dry socket Would you buy creaility over bambu if you had the money?

dry socket
#

depends on what I want to do with it. if I would be sure I won't have need of a larger build plate I'd probably go with bambu P1S or X1, but i'm pretty sure I need a bigger buildplate then 256x256x256 regulary, so I'm almost forced to go for creality K1 max or K2 plus, in either case I do not want bambu AMS or creality CFS

#

I print big things, like starboost chestplates an my current project a 66cm big naked Yoda, so I can put real cloth cloth on him, Yoda is printed, I did put in some realistic eyeballs, now i have to prime and paint him and sew his cloths.

dry socket
#

This I mean Padawan, to print this on a bambu I would have to cut the ears and some other pats. purely looking at print quality from starting the first time it would be bambu, but I'm a tinkerer therefor I can get prints like on a bambu on my K1 max, but I spent at least 5KG PLA and ASA to dial those in.

arctic lynx

That makes sense

I appreciate your insight
