#Benchy Print off

Textured gold PEI is like made for PETG or something. Carborundum glass or textured glass should never come into direct contact with PETG. Always tape up first.
Cooling can weaken the layer adheasion of petg and fog up clearer materials.
Huh.... maybe i just got luucky.
On my Ender 3 Max Neo, because of the strength of the 5015 blower, I barely let it idle for most PLA's and kill it on PETG. It's just so strong.
If its moving alot faster the high blower speed wouldnt be so bad.
Probably my only complaint about the flsun v400. I feel like i need more cooling speed when i really have it cranked up
Duct in a 5015 blower. That'll fix your issue.
Seriously, the one on my Ender 3 Max Neo can fight the heater cartridge and cool the heater block down really really fast if I change the angle of the ducts slightly.
If i upgrade the cooling it will prob be cpap
Im thinking about building a custom effector for the e3d supervolcano and running a cpap and converting to AWD
I keep reading that as All Wheel Drive...
But my printers don't roll away from me...
Ah
So a stepper at both ends of a pulley loop of GT2?
Exactly.
So for the deltas thats 6 motors driving the kinimatics
For cartesians that could be just 5 motors, 2 for x, 2 for y amd one for z
Why only one for z? I prefer dual z... but I guess you could sync the leadscrews with a belt. I probably still should.
Or one rod driving a belt setup lol
I run dual lead z on mine but am concidering switching to belted z
You could belt dual lead. It just let's the motors know where they are so they don't slip. That's what the Ender 3 Max Neo uses.
Specifications: Item name: Dual Z axis upgrade kit 2 Versions for choice: for CR-10, for Ender-3 Color: As the pictures show Main material: Metal Condition: New Warm Tips: Please note this part is a non genuine compatible spare part and the manufacturers' names and part numbers have been used for...
Here's a fancy kit. I'd probably do something DIY from Thingiverse though.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Since Thingiverse was having performance issues and people are reporting getting 404 errors, I decided to place all my designs on my own website https://properprinting.pro/product-category/3d-print-files/ All files can be downloaded from there for free and all updates and new designs are placed on there too.
A dual Z axis upgra...
I cannot for the life of me get supports to come off easily
It’s so frustrating man
I literally broke a piece because of supports
JonathanBMando and Kawalzki Won a S1
Congrats
i gotta enter that christmas one...
but then again... this goes against everything i have in my shed, open source, tinkering
i assembled my bench, my pc, my ender, my prusa, my voron
XD
nice i love it when people build there own things
especially pc's
Same, and it’s nice to have that thing you know how it’s made, you know how to break it down and put it back again
I know that with my Voron because I’ve done it 50 times
I feel if you dont have a filter dust is a problem in a case as well.
Especialy if you print in the same room without an air filter
to a extent
i actuly have less dust because i dont have larg case fans sucking in large amounts of air
the gpu and cpu fans run slow because they are efficient and i dont have case air which can be much hotter then ambient air
I am switching to water cooled to solve the same issue. Because my printer is in an enclosed cabinet of an old school wooden desk.
thats not how that works
you gotta model something then print it off, like my batarangs
christmassy?
also its 1 kilo of fillament
At that point id just do the belted z axis mod
It seems so much easier than getting 1 belt right then using gears and timing belts
Remember when 16 mins was impressive for a super low quality fast benchy?
How off the shelf machines do it
Post you benchy with machine and slicer specs! And dont let @fiery wave bring you down im putting the results in brackets based on machine types and quality of the print.
Its not fair to compare an E3 to a bamBUY labs machine
Lol yes but they include a 12min benchy as a presliced test peice.
So not a fair comparison to people who take the time to tune their machines for performance lol
My v400 on old firmware would turn out a 18min benchy, once upgraded to v1.4 could turn 12 min stock and now im at 10 minutes going for 7 hopefully soon
No ik, I’m saying older machines had to legit die to get 16 mins now they breath and speed up
Lol fair. But so much jas been learned about. Plus newer 32 bit boards help immensely. And the switch from 12v to 24v
Old machines were built like CNC machines, which have high accuracy but slow and lots of torque. We have evolved since then
No.. the only new thing you said about there is 32 bit, olders are 16 still
Everyone knows how to go fast, they don’t have the materials to do it
We need lower melting point plastics, CHT shaped nozzles, high temperature, that’s only the flow
People have been doing 24v for years
And I don’t get what you mean they’re built like CNC machines, they can go fast but they don’t
The limitation is ballscrew diameter. Alot of prototypes near me during reprap days were made with ballscrews. And it the diameter that would be affordable and feasible for desktop 3d printing you will have resonance issues at the speeds most printers are stock with today,
Large format CNCs dont have the issue because they make use of larger diameter ballscrews that get quite pricy.
Yes but its become the standard in most new off the shelf printers that i know of today that reach these speeds and temps.
Linear rails and belts are faster, I get what you mean, balls screws are a bit more reliable
They could reach the speeds but requires a much beefier lead screw and servo combination. Whoch would alow for more inteligant printing. As the printer would be aware of where the servo is at all times and no tooth skips because no belt...... i have been researching the efficacy of converting my delta to lead screw and my limitation is the diam of leadscrew and power neaded to drive servo that can reach required speeds.
Theoreticaly once homed once almost never have to home again as long as encoder id directly part of the leadscrew.
Servos aren’t valid for speedboat race, so you can’t use said machine
Haha! I raised our chances guys!
Darn your right lol!!!!
Ok so even more expensive option beffier steppers lmao
I winder why they exclude servos
nema 23
not the same mounting holes!
HAHA
Yes!
guys i did it, i eliminated the FLSun user
then he hacks his fl sun.....................
Im a seniormaster autimotive tech, if i cant drill some new holes and build a custom bracket then i need to hand in my certs
i am self learned idiot who's still in school
and i pretty sure i could pull it off XD
yeah, im in school, i learned a lot of my stuff myself except how to solder
yea i went ahead and tought myself to solder i bit of a pain but YouTube is invaluable
I'm a guy who rummages in garage sales, Goodwill, and dumpsters, pulls out printer carcasses, and returns them to stock. Then I wonder what to do with them... maybe a new hotend housing, some material and mechanical swapouts (steel gear for brass, dual z for single, metal extruder for plastic, silicone springs for metal) but nothing dramatic...
See id love to do that
But I can’t
There’s nowhere near me that’d do them
You mean you don't have dumpsters and yardsales where you are?
Nope
It all gets thrown in the bin, then off to skips and then landfill sadly
The rubbish bin, correct? Lol
That's sad...
Yes 😆
But at least your waste management system seems to work!
There is 1 place I can go, but you pay to get in and buy stuff
Ah... I once saw a guy pick up a $250 Ender 3 V2 at Goodwill for like $30...
Worst case was he had a frame he could rebuild a new printer off of lol
CRIpes
i havent seen priters at goodwill
its less of a hobby in newengland
Oh lol
Well, there are a lot online, and I guess additive manufacturing is popular in my area...
i havent looked
should tho
@thin zephyr would it be possible to get help pinning the rules at the top and pinning submissions. I do not have the access rights tl pin messages in this thread.
What’s our due date? Can we have it like January? I need parts in abs too big for my Prusa so I need to wait 😐
I think we agreed on January 26th, right @dense latch?
If not I ain't gonna make it lol.
I need a January date
yes its late january
Im not involved in this idk
Let’s go! That means I can join with my P1S!
@dense latch so you know how you were doing brackets? my voron is > 300 can i enter in the budget side
less than
do i qualify to be with the ender 3's
..... ender 3 is out of the box budget printer, so in the price class yes
Lol
In out of the box vs diy no
Bro there’s 2 people in the DIY class
If people have modded their e3 they qualify as modified
That’s me and popo then
So my e3 would get lumped into yours lol
mine to i gues
Please don’t say bed springs and extruder are DIY class
they shouldnt be
To me diy is like a whole new toolhead, mainboard swap, klipper and that
i have done a lil more then bed springs
just klipper should count tho right
klipper on its own is mehh
i can get a 25 min benchy soo
Still
Most out of box machines come with klipper now
now days yea
Still, klipper on its own, in my opinion isn’t DIY or modding anything, it’s plugging in a pi and hitting enter and pasting in a config
Start macro is setup, I can get a 10 min benchy when extrusion system is fixed
Sweet! Then my printers are all "stock", just slightly different mods like 3d printed hotend housing, aluminum extruder with steel gear, silicone bed springs, glass beds, larger cooling fans, and bimetal heatbreaks.
of jan right? if its of december then we all missed it
Yeah...
For anyone looking to have their benchy be the right dimensions for this comp try turning on the setting for outer wall printed first as it will help it be more dimensionally accurate
for speed benchy i dont think this matters as much but for quality that could help
unless you have problems with extrusions right after retractions which is commen then if could look worse
@wide lava The OP said that it must be dimensionally accurate (within reason). Just thought it might help 🙂
definently a good idea
dimensional Accuracy within reason. no .75 benchies to try to break time.
and we have untill the 24th of January for submissions
i will be submitting mine soon
@fiery wave @dense latch

new fastest benchy time has been set
albert even said it was the new worlds record in the coments
Holy smokes!!!!
THaTs WHaT i SAid
you see the dual bed motors i couldnt guess what mainboard there using but hopefully they get back to my text
Btt skr 1.4 turbo or octopus
probably
she said she is using TMC 5160s drivers for x and y
Those are drivers
Not the mainboard
yeas
didnt say what mainboard but the drivers are more important
BET
this whole ego for it to not work
I’m sorry boys…
oof
this gif is seeming more and more true
Lmfao
Adhesion is my only issue
????? Lies
I forgot this excisted
Still in pieces
Yeah procrastination baby
I'm reasonably certain I don't have a chance of printing any Benchy's by the deadline... my S5 is still cold (I don't have room to properly set it up) and my Ender 3's are occupied by important commissions.
Maybe I could've entered theTPU benchy lol
today is the last day
Me about to speed run the slowest printed benchy in existence
i thought it was the 31st 😮
i dont have a way to post my vid and im super busy so i probly wont get to it soon
I may have put in my calandar wrong
I thought it was the 26th. Not that I'm going to make it. Sigh. It was a great idea; just too many distractions along the way lol. But hey, maybe my Voron will be running this time next year.
Im looking through chat now
WELLLLLLLLL
Reason: Capital letters
i have made it through all of the chats...... amd we literaly had two entries....
Claw with photos of his entry and my cross posted entry....
@fiery wave you were talking alot of smack and i even extended the deadline for you lol
@wheat loom where is you entry for the Crealities
@fathom solar was the only person to post a run time with their Ender 3 of 40 minutes
i will rubn another competition in the future and make sure prizes are available lol
lol. I think this was forgotten
lol it was
when i run the next one how bout we do it for a goofy ender 3..... thats about all my budget is TBH
i wouldnt minde getting a neptune.
look im a corprate shill feeding 2 kids and a wife lol. i make moderate money and yet am still broke
im hoping to get more print commisions so i can afford my print hoby lol
Sorry. My plan didn't roll out. To bogged down with school and commissions to make it a reality. Maybe next year once my Voron is running... I just need to settle down with some of my printers lol
No problem
my machine is taking a while to build icl
especially considering i gotta convert it to rails on the Z now
and get a new mainboard for trippleZ
and a new bed heating system for the Mic6 Bed
Man you Wil be forever tinkering!!! Can't wait to see your attempt at the next one
wont we all
like i can get 20x faster if i go to a voron trident
So if I print one on the bambu i win?
Not really
If your gonna do one on a core XY Do it diagonal
So that way only 1 motor I moving
Benchy race that never happened
Lol
Is 8 minutes fast enough?
Or you gotta make it in like 2 minutes as the famous modded ender 3 XD
Well there were only 2 entries, so I have no idea
Gotta see them
Oh so bambus are allowed
Good, got my p1p tuned
Ill make my attempt soon
Even if it aint worth anything
Shoot I forgot to post winners.... stand by gotta put kids down
There were exactly 0 entries that met the rules and requirements lol including my own
So I just compiled all entries into a Google doc
RULES
Speed Benchy friendly competition!
Rules
All submissions must be in by 01.24.2024
You can submit as many times as you wish, fastest time will be recorded per machine
You must include the model of the printer
You must use PLA, PLA+, PETG, ASA, ABS, or ABS+ (not filled, metallic, or silk fi...
Let’s go! I broke the rules!
I think we need a small extension... maybe by the end of summer? lol
At least I've got my CR-10 S5 back up and running semi-regularly.
I'm good with just keeping this open.
I was actually too busy to calibrate my Ender 3 V2 the other day, so I just stuck it under the desk lol. No time to mess with it atm. I'm mostly relying on my Ender 3 Max Neo.
But from here on we either have to stop the cross chatter or someone with pinn capabilities needs to pin entries
It's too hard to scroll through the noise of chat to find official entries
Or I will have to open a discord and set up a bot specific for comp entries.
Why not this? rn we are in the "printing forum" of Frankly Built with the longest-running thread that has probably ever existed here... and I wouldn't mind inviting 3D printers from other servers...
That way you could have a "Speed Benchy Bla Bla" channel, and a "Entries Only" channel sort of like the #wip-printing channel
guys my sonic pad is bricked as of 2 days ago 😭
so i wont be speed printing unfortunately
The competition is over
Since there were 0 entries that qualified we are working out how to restructure.. and I am setting aside a couple bucks to go toward filiment for the winner this time. To encourage entries.
Speaking of here is my performance tuning (I'm not allowed to win
Why aren’t you allowed to
well if im putting together the compatition, and supplying the prize (pending a few dollars) then it wouldnt make sense for me to smake everyone and give the prize to myself lol
fair i guess
I guess this is a motive to finish the machine
