Do you have experience with painting on details for cosplay? I'm not 100% sure how to paint on the drill grooves after I paint the silver drill shaft a metallic color. I could really use some help.
Right now I have a few metallic sprays to choose from, Rub 'n Buff, an array of acrylic paints, as well as metallic airbrush paints.
Just a heads up, I do not currently have access to a printer.

Hey @whole crypt, thank you for contributing to this forum.

Pint the drill silver, whichever way you desire, the use a black wash of a litter acrylic black and water and brush it on, it will get in the groves and then wipe off the excess, or you can dry brush the groves if you need them darker.
Here's the issue. The drill on my prop is smooth, not grooved. Had no idea how to model the grooves in.
A dremel or similar or look at using wood carving tools, I have used a craft knife before to add a pattern in, then used needle files to widen the grove. Might be an idea to use string to mark the drill pattern on the print in pen and go from there. It’s going to be all manual work I am afraid.
I'm more looking to just paint it on, as I'm not 100% worried about it looking absolutely perfect, especially since it's 3d printed. Do you have any suggestions on how I should paint the design of the grooves?
Use a template or ruler and get the groves on there, maybe use a pencil, then use acrylics and start with a thin black line at the very bottom then fade this out towards the edges, you could try using a pencil and shading this, but you would need to clear coat it after to fix it in place. Do you have a paper printer you can use to make a template?
