Hello. Still very new to this so this question may seem dumb. How do I go about taking a picture and turning it into a model for printing? For reference, I have a picture of a soap mold that I want to turn into an actual mold. Do I have to start making it myself from scratch and try to get it as close as possible? Thank you for any answers to this very newb question.

your picture only serves as a reference, you will still have to actually model it yourself.

#

in blender you can for example add the picture into your backround to get the sizing to be exact, thats all

Ok. I’ll have to learn a lot more about using blender then. Thanks for the advice on where to start. I appreciate it!

Yeah you basically need to learn how to extrude and sculpt really. However you don't necessarily need to learn Blender's way of doing so however it's probably the most cost effective being free.

There's dozens of YouTube videos on how to use it.

It is much easier to do modeling in blender with a digital tablet and pen. Like a Bamboo, Surface Pro, even Android tablets and iPads can work (not that well tho)

dont think he needs sculpting for some holder thing

the tablet is only easier if you sculpt. For everything else i wouldnt say a tablet is easier

Yeah it’s basically just a mold for soap and all I have to go off of is a picture of it

Well tbh for something that simple just use Tinkercad. IT's an online software and it is free. Really simple to use, kinda feels like it is geared towards kids tbh...

I only mention using a tablet on blender because all the shift clicks and ctrl clicks, etc... all that is really bypassed with tablets and especially tablets designed for digital drawing that come with a pen

hotkeys are the easy things in blender. It only gets difficult when there is stuff to do that cant be done with hotkeys xD

True but I find using my wacom tablet and pen much easier cause my hands never touch the pc really
