#small letters not printing properly

Well I thought my printer was dialed in for large items. But apparently it can’t handle the fine detail.

I’ve calibrated temperature & e steps. Haven’t done flow calibration.

I’m printing a few of these laying down flat using a few different settings to see the best result. Monotonic top/bottom + ironing for this one.

The next two will be:

Monotonic ironing + ironing

Monotonic top/bottom + Monotonic ironing + ironing

If the letters are thinner than your nozzle size, then it will have problems. If that's the case your best option is to then use a smaller nozzle or if you were the one to design and put the lettering on the model then make the lettering bigger

Ahh, I’m using a .4 nozzle at .2 layer height

That should be fine. I mean how thick the lines of each letter are

The “L” is .83

This is what I mean

Bottom of L is .63

.69

Tricky to get in with calipers

#

Also using combing

It's probably having trouble be cause it's so small, small embossed letters can be tricky. It definitely would come put better with a smaller nozzle but then you gotta redo things like z offset and stuff. Depending on how fast your printing thay can also be a factor of it coming out bad if you are printing fast

Yea I think I sliced it at 65

#

I’ll have to double check

#

I’ll slow it down to 35 and see. If not I’ll order a smaller nozzle. Honestly I don’t really care about the letters 😂. If I could slice them off I would

#

Could always do a plane cut in meshmixer

If the speed is the problem you either could slow down the speed for the whole print (which does mean the print will take longer) or I would figure out which layer the letters start printing and you could slow down your print speed with adding a post processing line (if you are using cura thats what it's called) and you can have it slow down the speed on the layer when the letters start or on the layer before the letters start all the way to the end of the print

Good idea, I’ll re slice and slow it down at that layer

Or I could lower it below the build plate and slice without the letters. I have options now 🙂
