If you need the Trading role, just send a message in any channel containing "trading role" and the bot will automatically give it to you. This is temporary and will be turned off when it's back to working order or the bot completely dies!

Not exactly an outage but Guiduck's tag claim command was bugged earlier, allowing people to claim any tag even if the owner was in the server. This has been fixed but there were about 500 tags that were claimed during this period.

No need to DM staff members about lost tags, we are working on reversing these claims. Until then the claim command will be disabled.

The bot is unstable at the moment and keeps lagging out or stopping functioning. I have restarted it and it seems to be ok now but it seems to be a system-level problem that we need more time to look into. If your incenses stop spawning or skip spawns, it is advised that you kick the bot from the server to pause them (works even if the pause commands dont work) until it's back again.

Q: I had incenses running, are they gone?!

Incenses should resume normally once the bot is back up. To ensure they don't resume at an inconvenient time, you can kick the bot from the server.

In case you lost 14% or more spawns per incense, please request a refund at our support server once the bot is back up

Q. Should I vote during the outage? / I voted but did not receive boxes

Do not vote during the outage as you will not receive any boxes. We will likely provide some kind of compensation for the lost boxes once the bot is back up.

Q. Will shiny charms / event opening period / auctions be extended?

So giveaways have been paused temporarily until we fix it (will take some time). ~~The giveaways that ended without a owner have all been reversed. The bot is still unresponsive/down in a lot of servers, and incenses are also still laggy (skipping spawns/laggy responses/not catchable). We are looking into the issue, but it's been taking a while due to real life circumstances.

We have disabled the purchase and resumption of incenses until the issue is resolved. The event will also continue until the bot is stable, and we will announce in advance when it will actually end. Thank you for your patience!

Re-ping to notify that, as of recent, incenses will no longer continue losing spawns even if they error! If you check your server's @‌Pokétwo#8236 inc you'll see that the numbers aren't going down. They'll resume again once the issue is fixed, so pause them if you don't want it to resume suddenly. Please keep this in mind and double check before requesting for a refund.

The bot is back! Auctions and Shiny Charms have been extended by 2 days. Incenses should be resuming normally, there shouldn't have been any spawn loss during the outage due to a failsafe we implemented recently! Thank you for your patience!

The bot is still offline, I haven't been able to figure out what happened. But I've paused all incenses and added 100, 50 and 33 spawns to all currently running 10s, 20s and 30s incenses respectively. When we update here that the bot is back online, you can resume your incenses. After it's back online and after resuming your incenses, if you see that you've lost more spawns than you were given back or your incense has ended (not in @bronze wraith inc), please open an incense refund ticket.

I'm currently at uni so I can't investigate further at the moment, will do so once I'm back home.

Commands appear to not work at times. This is supposedly due to a Discord bug when you mention the bot by typing @, which for some reason adds invisible characters before the mention, preventing the bot from recognizing it as a prefix.

For now, please copy paste this instead of typing out the mention until Discord fixes this (or we might add a work-around if it persists)

The bot has been having load issues today, both because of the increased demands due to incenses as well as a large influx of new users recently. Not to mention, our host had a completely unrelated incident that caused another hour of downtime.

Until we can resolve these issues, all incenses will be stopped and disabled. If you purchased an incense, you have automatically been refunded. If you didn't receive a refund or had bought a large number of incenses, please send me a DM. If you bought another item hoping to use it in combination with incense, feel free to ask so we can sort something out.

Update on the spawn rate: I can't do anything about it for now. If I increase the spawn rate, we risk being kicked off the API temporarily. I'm in contact with Discord to get our global rate limit increased.

I'm sure you've all noticed that the bot has been going down a lot recently—thank you everyone for your patience with this. I just want to explain a little more about the difficulties that the bot has been going through recently.

For background, Discord imposes what are called "rate limits" on bots. These are basically cooldowns to make sure that you aren't abusing the API. Normal users actually have rate limits too (when your message gets grayed out for a couple seconds before sending, or when you enter the "chill zone"). However, bot rate limits are significantly more nuanced.

How these rate limits work is that there are multiple "buckets" of rate limits that each work separately. For example, sending a message and deleting a message have different buckets, and so if you hit the limit on sending a message, you may still be able to delete a message. There are many of these buckets and they work on different actions that the bot can do. These rate limits are pretty much the same for every bot and there aren't exceptions. These buckets are also split across channels/guilds.

However, there's one global rate limit on everything that the bot does, which limits the total number of actions that the bot can perform. This is the limit Pokétwo has been reaching. If you hit this limit, you get what is called an HTTP 429, and the bot just has to wait until the limit resets (usually <1 second) to be able to do more things. However, Discord imposes a rule where if you hit over 10,000 429s within an interval of 10 minutes, then you get blocked from accessing the API for an hour.

Unfortunately, we've been consistently hitting that limit for the past few weeks, so I've had to decrease spawns and do whatever I can do send less messages. There is a bright side, though, which is that Discord does increase this global rate limit for bots on a case-by-case basis. I contacted Discord two weeks ago in order to do this, but unfortunately they don't seem to have gotten to my request yet.

So, that's what has been happening. I just wanted to provide some more context in this message. Thank you again for all your patience, and I really hope we can get this resolved soon, so you guys can all go back to catching Pokémon at normal rates.

In addition: Automating bot commands is a punishable offense. A number of people have just been blacklisted from the bot for consistently spamming the same bot command over and over again, every couple of seconds, for a long time. This puts a lot of strain on the bot and contributes to the bot's rate limit.

If you really want to spam to get pokémon to spawn or something, please just spam text, not a bot command.

Updates on bot status @everyone

As many of you have noticed, recently spawns had to be significantly slowed due to a couple of issues. If you'd like to read more about the technical details in my post above. Over the past week or so, I've done some more digging into the rate limits, how they are calculated, and I've made many optimizations under the hood. I am happy to announce that the normal spawn rate has been restored.

I understand that it may have been very frustrating, and many of you may not have been able to catch Pokémon like you used to. Just as a small compensation for the recurring downtime and slowed spawns, everyone has been given a single ultra box. You can open it for a small reward using p!open ultra.

Thank you everybody again for your continued patience while we worked to resolve these issues. I'm really grateful for all the love support I've received for the bot, and how you've borne with me through the bot's "growing pains", and I hope we can continue to grow, together, as one community, for our beloved bot.

Unfortunately, the issues with the rate limits are far from over, and even though spawns are back, there is still a chance that the bot will occasionally go down. I'm doing my best to resolve these issues when they come up, but please bear with me if it happens again, until Discord gets to my rate limit request.

Updates on bot status @everyone

I am glad to announce that our global rate limit has finally been raised by Discord, and such, the original spawn rate is back (for real this time). The rate limit being higher also means that Incenses are now available in the shard shop. Incenses can be bought by server admins, and spawn a pokémon every 20 seconds for an hour in the channel it was bought in.

This also means that the bot will be down a lot less, mostly just for major updates.

Thank you everyone so much for all your patience while we worked to resolve these issues. We're glad that they're solved now due to the higher rate limit. This will allow me to continue developing features without having to worry about the constant stress of the bot going down.

Possible things that you can try to still vote are:

There were a couple of issues with the bot sending DMs recently. The issue was related to the rate limit on the Fetch User endpoint; I've changed some parts of the code to ease usage of that a bit. Right now it's night time in the US so bot usage is low but we'll see if the issue is fixed during peak hours tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

For those people who are endlessly bugging me to fix the issue, please calm down. Apart from community contributions, I'm the sole developer of the bot. Hi all,

Evidently the bot's struggling to keep up with the load. I could put it back up again, but without fixing the problem, it would keep running into the same issues and go down again not before long. I don't want to do that.

However, I'm also really busy with some other things in life at the moment and don't have the time to debug and fix the bot right now. I don't know how deep the issue is, and I'm sure when I can get to it, whether it's today, tomorrow, or as late as this weekend. But, the bot is not shutting down.

For now, I am locking down the support channels so we don't get an overload of people asking about the bot being down. I'm also locking down the catching, trading, and battling channels since there's no point in those channels while the bot is offline. If you still want to talk, you can do so in #general, #chatting-talk, and #740227578459324476.

Update on the downtime: Things are going smoothly. I am currently waiting for data to transfer and just have to fix up a couple more things after.

On the technical side, the recent downtime has to do with a couple of issues. First is that the storage provisioner I was using for Kubernetes (Longhorn) is evidently pretty unstable for high throughput applications, making the disk volumes sometimes get disconnected and/or fail. Initially I thought it had to do with me using ext4 but switching to XFS still had the same issues. In the midst of that we are also dealing with API ratelimits (got temporarily banned a few times) as well as a couple other things even when the bot was functioning.

I'm working out a few solutions and am getting close. Thanks again for your patience.

The bot should be fully back up now. Today's debacle was a combination of many issues, here's a summary:

• Discord sometimes asks shards to reconnect (which is usually graceful). However, it happened to hundreds of shards at the same time, and they would all keep disconnecting after. It may be because it led to a huge CPU spike that would take all of them back down, but I'm not completely sure.

• We had updated to discord.py's master branch for some newer API features. There was a fatal error that would cause the bot to occasionally crash and restart. Although it wasn't super common, it would contribute to the bot being unstable. The bot was updated to use fixed version.

• When extending shiny charms, I accidentally made a typo in the database query. This caused anyone who had bought a shiny charm before today to be unable to catch pokémon. This is now fixed.

• Later, one of the nodes the bot runs started hanging for no reason. Well, there probably is a reason. I just don't know what it is. The http proxy was running on this node, and because it was hanging (not crashed) Kubernetes wasn't able to restart it automatically. I restarted the node and everything recovered automatically after.

Not all the issues are resolved. I'm still not completely sure the cause of the constant disconnects and the strange issue at the end, but I'll do my best to investigate them more if they do come back.

Thanks to everyone for all the bug reports, so far we are aware of the following bugs/glitches and are working on a fix for them as soon as possible.
Major bugs:
• Trade quest taking a while to register, and not giving box when it does register.
• Sometimes when you do p!event open it doesn't respond or give you anything, but deducts the box
• Evolving pokemon doesn't count for the quest sometimes
• It was also reported a couple times that sometimes progressing a quest does not register for some reason.

Other bugs:
• Typo in p!event
• p!d does not have the new hisui pokemon yet
• The types of the hisuian pokemon are incorrect/incomplete
• The board number in p!event not incrementing

If you are aware of any other bugs that aren't on the list, please put them in #bug-reports or open a ticket in our support server. If you have lost an anniversary box as a result of a bug, please open a ticket in our support server and we'll sort things out as soon as possible.

The above bugs have been fixed (to my knowledge). We're really sorry about the release of this event with these bugs, and I should have done more adequate testing beforehand to ensure a good experience for everyone. Nevertheless, I hope that everyone is able to enjoy it now that the issues have been fixed. The event will be extended by three days to account for these bugs.

In addition, everyone who has had at least one box at any point in time has receive 3 Anniversary Boxes to compensate for these issues.

If you continue to experience what feels like unintended behavior, please report it and we'll investigate as soon as possible.
