#Icarus not booting after purchase of Great Hunts

What does it do when you try starting the game?
It crashes almost a minute after hitting the start for the game no window
So you hit play. Steam shows it's running for a min then says it's not. Nothing pops up?
yes
@royal cobalt
Vid of what's happening
It's a specific issue that for some reason my brain won't ever remember. I tagged twist because he knows it.
ok thanks!
Koala may have more faith in me than I deserve. Something is terminating the process. Make sure that both the base exe and the second exe in the binaries folder are permitted for Defender, anti-virus, windows execution protection, etc. That's the most likely source of the issue. Running as admin doesn't bypass any of that, and you do NOT want to run Icarus as admin anyway.
i disabled Icarus From running as admin is this what you mean by both .exe's. i have both the boot .exe and Icarus's file on defenders exclusion
if you click on the second one (in binaries\Win64), do you get any kind of error? does it start up?
no error and no screen. it dose the same as i tried booting from steam
So either it's crashing with no report or something's killing it.
what GPU do you have?
evga gtx 1070. i do get a crash report in the appdata file
can you post it?
DM it if you're worried about any content, though I think it's largely clean of personal info. I promise to be discreet.
sorry it's taking me a minute to find the screenshot. ill just send the file
it's okay, I'm working on a paper as well in a different window.
that's not a crash report; that's just configuration of the crash report client itself.
basically, that's what the UE4 crash report client uses to know where to send data when it does crash (there's a local copy too, but when you get a UE4 crash, there's a "send data" button that uses that URL).
ok. that file is all i see that is new, i have no idea what can be blocking it from booting. defender is the only thing but i have it exempting icarus.
You don't have any antivirus? Can you right-click on both of the executables and make sure that "execution protection" isn't listed at the bottom of the Properties screen (it's usually with Read Only and such).
Last thing to check would be looking in the Windows System and Application logs to see if there's any error around the time you are launching. probably not, but it's the last "error log" I can think of to check.
how do i do that?, thanks for the helping with this
Would that App Control with Win 11 be doing this? Never remember the name of that, disabled completely on my PC.
Dalton be patient with Twist he knows his stuff. Just threw that idea out as he can not think of everything.
That should be throwing a windows error message if it was
its cool. I'm in no rush. i'm just glad to have any help. i pulled up the event log
Ah okay, well I will try to remember that one then.
Are you using game ready or studio drivers?
game ready - drivers are up to date
Swap to studio and see if it works
i swaped and it booted
So the latest update borked older gpus on gameready....
thanks for all the help! i just checked. everything is run good. I'm slightly down on frames but at lest its working now.
i guess your probably right. with my luck now all my other games won't work on studio. just another reason to build a new PC.
They should work fine with studio. Nvidia wants to shove crap into game ready that it doesn't need so it breaks.
Yeah, that was going to be the next step. if there's no log, I was going to recommend changing the drivers. Something happened lately with the game-ready drivers that are causing problems for a lot of people.
(sorry, still writing this paper, so I'm inconsistently here)
anyway, glad it's working.
thanks for the hellp twist!
So you know I have played about 6+ other games on Studio and not a single one had issues. Even older games like Sniper Elite 4 long enough to beat it on hard.
Ark Ascended actually seemed to run better but no telling if that was the driver or WC work.
Also if you invest in a new PC make sure you get at least 32GB RAM more if you can. Games are getting RAM hungry, with many of them needing 16GB.
Just as an aside As of driver version 591.44 ALL 900 & 1000 series GPUs were no longer supported with Game Ready Drivers from Nvidia, they were put onto security only updates. The LAST version to fully support them was driver version 581.80 from 4th November 2025
