I have an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT paired with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600x. My game of Icarus is installed on an ssd, and my pc works just fine for literally every other game I play. However whenever I play Icarus, it is stuttering to the point of unplayable, and I get around 10fps. Along with that, my gpu also runs at 100% (only with THIS exact game my pc runs perfectly for everything else) and running at 100% it skyrockets my pc temps to the point where I just have to close the game or risk damaging my components. My drivers are all up to date, and putting the graphics on the most minimal I can, does absolutely nothing.
How do I fix this? I don’t know what else to try, and I refuse to believe that my system can’t run it cuz my brothers got an i5 6700 from last decade paired with a 1660 ti and installed it on an external hard drive meant for the Xbox and it runs flawlessly on his computer. Makes no sense why I’d have issues. Is it the AMD parts?
#Great pc, terrible terrible performance

Okay well first saying your PC runs every other game perfectly means nothing. Every other game you have could mean 5 games and all made back in 2015. Icarus is not made back then but released in 2021.
Seems like you have your own answer if your brother is having no issue and you are. That should narrow it down for you. I know games like Ark even do NOT run well at all with AMD. I have heard AMD is sold cheaper and so in my opinion you get what you pay for.
Keep in mind that there is more to your PC then CPU, GPU and Drive. If you are online there is also internet speed. Wifi is a HUGE no for gaming. RAM and the amount you have is super important and it sounds like could be your issue.
In the end I have 3 guesses to your issue forgetting what other games run perfect as that has 0 value here.
- Lacking RAM I think this game needs 16GB FREE meaning you need more than 16 installed.
- Your Drive is not fast enough to keep up with everything.
- IF you are online could be your Internet connection is too slow or if on Wifi definitely CAN be too slow.

Okay cool. You could have just linked the chat and said “yeah it doesn’t seem like it works on AMD” instead of very clearly assuming I’m a moron. I will just refund it since the devs only optimize for nvidia. Have a nice day.
Also $2200 for a pc isn’t “cheap” 🤡 the devs just don’t know how to make a game accessible for everyone, if AMD is indeed the problem. Running any other game, modern or ancient, works flawlessly typically on high graphics settings (including ark btw).
And yes, I already came to that conclusion. I posted my message here to see if anyone had a different conclusion than mine. Possibly someone else with AMD that got it to work.
There's plenty of people with AMD GPUs that can play the game.
However, whilst NVidia works with game developers to optimize their drivers, AMD isn't really inclined to do so.
So blaming the Devs for AMD not wanting to cooperate to optimize the drivers is kinda blaming the wrong party.
Your GPU is a bit on the weak end (early 2020, 6GB VRAM if memory serves).
But it should be playable, albeit most likely not on the highest settings.
Question:
Have you made sure your drivers are up-to-date?
Also, make sure your texture pool isn't set above VRAM size.
I didn’t realize that AMD didn’t want to help with optimization, I agree that was shitty of me to assume, but also it seems maybe AMD isn’t the issue if plenty of people play on these systems fine.
Drivers up to date, and I did make sure VRAM was good.
I have a feeling it’s just a combo of optimization not being done (I recognize that as AMD’s fault now) and lower end vram. Thought the gpu would be able to take it being its well above what the minimum requirement is. Gtx 1060 6GB is not superior to my 5600. My gpu is about on par with a 2060. They don’t even have AMD parts listed in the system requirements on steam so I just compared the parts. I guess that should have been my first hint that the game wasn’t gonna work.
Everything about the system requirements says it’s not a super heavy game, minus the ram but I met the minimum. I was expecting as such. Hate to be wrong. Can’t even get an effing refund cuz I spent over two hours just trying to get the damn thing to work.
I'm sorry to hear you can't get the game working, since it's an amazing game (although I might be a tad biased here).
Your GPU should be able to run the game.
You say it's not a super heavy game, but I can tell you it's quite memory hungry, and also loves a good chunk of video memory.
I hope others will be able to help you get the game running; I don't really have experience with AMD (always been running Intel and NVidia)...
By any chance, have you tried -useallavailablecores argument?
It made it somewhat better for me ||or so I think||.
I've heard of people using DXVK on windows, that may be of help.
My first pc was intel/nvidia and I had nothing but issues. This is the first issue I’ve come across with AMD, so I’m not too disappointed tbh. I know I’m the odd one out, most people prefer what you’ve got going. First impressions are everything, and my first pc was nothing but a nightmare with the card specifically.
Memory hungry could very well be my issue. I know my gpu doesn’t have the best vram.
I will look into it, thank you. I haven’t tried anything of the sorts yet I don’t think. I’ll report back when I’ve tried, I’m at work atm.
