2 days ago i was playing my character like normal and yesterday (a few hours ago) when i started the game, i got a blackscreen after skipping the intro (never happened before) and when i restarted the game i was put right into character creation. then i created a character, hoping i would see my other one in the main menu but not there and now the game blackscreens every time i select the newly created character. In the blackscreen i can press esc
what can i do

I'm not sure what else could be causing it. This has happened to other folks before and the fix was to check if the executable itself wasn't set to Run as Administrator. Others may be able to pitch in with ideas/solutions

Another option would be to verify game files. Might have a corrupt file somewhere

that i have also done. i even started my pc new but so far i cant play
im always open for new things
is there a way to find out if my old char still exists? (even knowing, this wouldnt fix my blackscreen)

Paste %localappdata%\Icarus\Saved\PlayerData\ into the address bar of File Explorer. You should see a folder at that location with a long string of numbers (your Steam ID) and inside you should see a Characters.json file. Open the file and check to see if your character is there (if you named the new character the same name, it won't be easy to tell). But if you created a character, your old one may have been deleted. But, you can follow steps A and C to rebuild your character: #how-to-icarus message

yeah inside the folder of my steam id i can find my old char and progress
but i dont know how to make it so he is back in my game and the new one gone

Okay, that may because Icarus is running as Administrator. On a different note, are you running Steam as an Administrator?
