#Gpu Low Utilization

Welcome to the club.
This is common for everyone.
By the way, don't only look at GPU usage, but also at GPU Memory usage.
If that runs high, decrease your texture poolsize.
Additionally, do you also have low fps in missions, or only in Open World?
In open world with 1 friend i have 30fps, my cpu is 15% and gpu 60-70%, ram 18gb (i7-12700/6800xt/32gb ram) graphics on epic because fps not change in low
What's your GPU Memory usage?
Because if that's too high, you need to decrease your texture poolsize.
If it's set too high, and it doesn't fit into GPU Memory anymore, it spills over to RAM; although RAM is fast, the bus from GPU to RAM is quite a bit slower than the internal memory bus in you graphics card.
Im not sure how to check my gpu memory usage.
i run better in missions, open world is where im really low.
That's a known issue in OW at the moment.
Every resource you harvest (cut down tree, pick up bush, mine voxel, mine stone, but also every tree or bush burning down) generates a tiny bit of lag.
Every building piece / bench you place generates a tiny bit of lag.
But it all stacks.
When playing OW, here's some guidelines:
- Do not harvest anywhere near your base; harvest at least 4 map tiles away - that way you keep the harvesting lag away from your base
- Go for deep veins asap; mining a deep vein does not generate lag (as it does not change anything to the map template)
- Spread out your buildings - one massive building generates a bigger stack of lag, where when you spread out your buildings (again, like 4 map tiles separate) will distribute the lag stacks across the map
In Windows, open the Task Manager, (assuming you're running Windows 10) check the Performance tab and click your GPU (left side, below your Ethernet adapters); it should show you a graph as well as values for your Dedicated GPU memory.
Im using 5gb of 6gb
And that's with the game running?
yeah
So a texture poolsize of say 4000 max?
That means it's pretty well sized.
Anyway, OW performance is a known issue.
Follow the guidelines above to keep it playable as long as possible.
If you've done a lot of mining in the direct vicinity of your base already, you might want to start a new one.
We're all hoping this will be addressed soon.
But I have no idea on RW's timeline.
I have a pretty good idea what's causing the performance issues (that's where above guidelines are based on, and it's also supported by findings of other people), but it might need quite some code reworking to fix.
Although I started out as Software Developer, it's been over 20 years; so I have no idea how much work it'd be to fix the performance issues 😉
I gotcha, thanks for the help. What stuck me as curious though, was when im playing Icarus my Utilization is low. But other AAA titles my utilization is high, and the game is beautiful and plays smoothly.
There's so many factors contributing to the performance of a game; just plain CPU and GPU usage percentages are only part of those factors...
