When I open the game, the play tab is grey with CONNECTING... RETRYING. I've tried everything at this point that I can think of. Restarting steam, verifying game files, restarting router, turned advanced security on my network off (was unaware it was even on). I'd really like to avoid an uninstall/reinstall

yeah been going on for 12H there previous fix did not work so they are trying new stuff but this may be a very long outage seeing they still dont know whats causing it....

The issue is resolved on the technical side; if you still can't get on, you're either experiencing a different issue or still waiting for DNS to propagate to you. There are some (semi-complicated) workarounds for the latter, but the former would be unrelated to the outage and would need more troubleshooting.

Still unable to connect, I've done the DNS flush and rebooting the router etc but im not really comfortable with doing that final fix with the notepad etc so i guess im just going to have to sit and wait 😦

according to the post it could take up to 24 hours once theyve done the fix for everyone to be able to connect normally (something to do with DNS but im not technical so ive no idea why)

then your in the same boat as me, wait until the 24 hours have passed and then if its still on going then we can safely say its not the same issue.

if your playing the open world maps you can still play that via the offline mode and for some reason it still allows the option to invite friends to it. If your playing the missions then im afraid we just have to wait and see if the DNS thing gets solved after the 24h window

agreed, im going to continue my open world progress in offline mode for now (granted i had to make a new character so its basically stuck gathering wood/stone/ore rather than crafting) and if the issue isnt fixed tomorrow then its a different matter xD

I read above that theres some notepad to fix things but how did it work two days ago and is apparently fixed, but it still not working and we have to do a bunch of stuff our end? Sounds a bit odd...Especially if it was working fine before? Was there any explanation on why stuff stopped working? This is a big no bueno...

Also had an issue with closing the game and it wouldn't actually close, and it would just stay stuck on stopping, and when I tried to close steam it wouldnt let me and was stuck at shutting the game down...had to use task manager to get rid of it. Idk if thats the game or on the steam side but never happened before that :/

Like I couldnt even play another game without completely shutting steam off in task manager xD

Actually just did it again, closed the game, says its still running and now Im stuck with steam saying its waiting for Icarus to shut down but never does?

the 24 hours is an estimate; DNS propagation is its own thing outside of the control of RW.

if you ping the correct domain and still get the incorrect DNS, you're just waiting for propagation. If you get the new DNS record, then the issue you're having is unrelated to the outage yesterday.

easiest way, open a command prompt and run:

nslookup icarus-gateway.prod-uswest.icarus-backend.com

That will return an address, among other things. If it's 209.something, you have the old record and still need to have it propagate to you. If it's 52.something, you have the new record and should be able to connect.

If you have 52.something and still can't connect, then there's something else going on unrelated to yesterday's outage (which was explicitly about the 209.something address).
