My Opera built-in adblocker is not working (particularly on YouTube)... There are still ads, or there is a white screen instead of the video ads.

It might be caused by a problem of lists. The ad lists are what we call "rules" for the adblockers. When the adblocker detects something which is on the list, it automatically removes them from the HTML code of the page

(the HTML code is a bit like the words that make up a book: HTML makes up the web page... It contains all the information that the browser (Opera) must display).

But advertisers are really smart and they create new rules, new codes to avoid adblockers every day.

That's why adblockers update their lists every day. This action is usually done automatically but you might need to do it manually sometimes, especially when you're seeing ads despite having adblocker enabled.

Here's how you do that:

1 - Go to opera://settings/adBlockerLists
2 - Click on Update lists
3 - Restart your browser.

This is not guaranteed to work every time and if it doesn't work, we recommend you to install uBlock Origin and use that for the time being.

How to update uBlock Origin's lists:
1 - Go to opera://extensions
2 - Find uBlock Origin
3 - Click on Options
4 - Go into filter lists
5 - Click on update now and wait a bit.
6 - Check if it worked.

Note::

Do** NOT** use more than one adblocker at the same time, doing so will cause issues such as the browser working extremely slow.

Only select the recommended lists as they are chosen based on the sites you browse on. Do not choose extra lists, there is no such thing as more lists = more ads blocked.

I don't know how to enable the VPN.

The Virtual Private Network (or VPN) is like a bridge that allows users to access data using another way than the most direct way to ensure their safety.
Moreover, VPN allows you to access websites that are blocked or unavailable in your country.

So, how do you access it? Just follow these steps:

1 - Go to opera://settings/vpn and enable VPN.
2 - Click on the gx_vpn icon on your URL bar and turn it on.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

The VPN icon is still orange, and it says that there is a problem, what do I do?

Try to:

  • Restart Opera
  • Choose a different continent in its settings.
  • Disconnect and reconnect to the internet.
  • Check your anti-virus, your firewall, and your proxy settings.

Keep in mind that Opera's VPN is a free VPN, relying on paid VPN services will always give more positive results.

My browser doesn't open and when it does, it shuts down.

This is one of the most annoying problems because it can be caused by many different things: corrupted files, missing DLLs, (anti-)virus, and addons...

There aren't really any permanent solutions to this, you'll most likely have to reinstall.

But I will lose everything including my passwords/bookmarks etc.

Don't worry! There's a way to save them.
Firstly, be sure that you have a safe place to save your data, if you're not sure, you can use a USB Drive.

1 - Do Windows Key + R
2 - Copy paste this into Run: %HOMEDRIVE%\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable
3 - Backup all the files mentioned in this page.

When it's done, download a new Opera GX installer.

If you still have your old installer which was used to install the bugged Opera GX, DO NOT use it again.

If it solved the issue and Opera GX is running correctly, you can copy your backup files into your new Opera profile.

Follow these steps to get to your Profile folder:
1 - Do Windows Key + R
2 - Copy paste this into Run: %HOMEDRIVE%\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable

I tried everything and it still doesn't work!

  • Your data is making Opera crash. Reinstall it, but don't put your personal files back.

  • You probably have a virus. Scan your computer with a strong anti-malware program like MalwareBytes and remove malicious content, if there are any.
    (You can remove Malwarebytes from your PC when it's done.)

  • Your anti-virus blocks Opera GX... Check the logs, and add GX as an exception.

  • Your computer doesn't meet the minimal requirements.

My Opera GX is in another language...

1 - Go to opera://settings/languages

2 - Click on what's written at the top (there's also an arrow right next to it, in case you couldn't understand), it will display a set of languages available, if you can recognize your language, click on the 3 dots right next to it and check the box.

3 - If you cannot see your language in the list, click on the text (written in your theme's color) at the bottom and search for your language.

4 - Once you find your language, click on the button to the right at the bottom to add it. Then click on the 3 dots and check its box.

5 - Restart Opera GX.

I cannot scan WhatsApp's QR Code (sidebar).

This problem is caused by the force dark pages feature, which is still in BETA.

1 - Go to opera://settings
2 - Find Force dark pages in the GX section, disable it.
3 - Try scanning the QR code now.

It didn't work, I still cannot scan it.
1 - Go to WhatsApp Web normally (not in the sidebar)
2 - Scan the QR code

  • If the QR code doesn't work, try refreshing it.
  • Try adjusting your screen's brightness.
  • Disable night mode if you have it enabled.
  • Check whether your phone's camera is clean or not.

I have some bugs with the force dark pages feature

Keep in mind that the force dark pages feature is still in BETA, thus, any issues caused by it are completely normal.

Force dark pages feature makes X website unreadable, how can I disable it?

1 - Right-click on an empty space in that website>Disable force dark page

Can I add extensions to the sidebar?

There are many extensions made only for the sidebar, you can see them here.

The installation process is the same as installing an extension normally, just click on Add to Opera.

How to hide the sidebar? / I accidentally hid my sidebar / my sidebar disappeared, how do I bring it back?

Follow the steps to hide/show the sidebar.

1 - Go to opera://settings/manageSidebar
2 - Toggle the switch to either show or hide it.

I don't know how to enable GX Lights for Razer products, how do I do it?

Here's how to complete your Razer gaming setup with Opera GX:
1 - Connect your Razer devices and open Opera GX.

2 - Go to opera://settings/gx_lights_settings and enable the feature.

3 - Select your preferred color from the color palette.

4 - Your keyboard, mouse, and other Razer Chroma elements will adjust their colors to the chosen highlight colors in your browser.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

1 - Make sure that you have the latest Razer Synapse 3 installed and updated.

2 - Make sure that Razer Synapse is running. Razer icon might be visible in your system tray, but it does not always mean that Synapse is running!

3 - After the GX update, please restart your browser!

Note: This feature is exclusive to Razer products, it will not work with other brands' products.

Is Opera GX available on Linux? // Can I run Opera GX on Linux using WINE?

Opera GX is only available on macOS and Windows (excluding GX Mobile).
It does not have official Linux support yet. You can try using WINE to run it but there's no guarantee it'll work.

If you want to use Opera on Linux, you can download the "normal" version of Opera.

I have problems with GX sounds, how do I disable them? I can't hear them/I want to adjust their volumes

Go to opera://settings/sounds_settings

On this page, you can:

  • Disable GX Sounds
  • Adjust their volumes
  • Change which sound you want to use
  • The actions you want to have sounds and the ones you don't want to have sounds

I cannot hear GX Sounds even though I have the feature enabled

1 - Do Windows Key + R
2 - Type sndvol and click on OK.
3 - Find Opera GX and unmute it.

Opera GX is using too much RAM/CPU

Before proceeding, keep in mind that Opera GX a browser and it needs resources to function like any other browser. If you have, for example, 16 GB of ram, 500MB - 1GB is NOT high usage.

Things to check and try:

  • Do Shift + ESC to see what's using your resources that much and terminate it. If whatever's using so much RAM is an Opera feature/task, report it here.

  • Try doing the same things you do on other Chromium based browsers to see if the issue is only happening on Opera GX.

  • Your extensions at opera://extensions. Check if there are any extensions that you DON'T remember installing.

If there is an unfamiliar extension and it can't be removed even though you remove it, it's most likely adware. Scan your system with AdwCleaner.

  • If it isn't an extension that's causing it, you should still scan your PC with a strong anti-malware program to ensure its safety. We recommend MalwareBytes.

Unfortunately, there's no country selection available, you can only select continents.

If it changes the continent automatically, it's most likely because that continent's servers aren't available at the time.

Disable hardware acceleration
1 - Go to opera://settings/system.
2 - Disable hardware acceleration.
3 - Restart Opera GX.

Clear browser data
1 - Go to opera://settings/clearBrowserData
2 - Delete everything, don't forget to choose all time.

Disable extensions & adblocker
1 - Go to opera://extensions

Check if JavaScript & Flash are enabled

It is possible with an experimental feature, and since it's experimental, it might cause problems. So, backing up data is strongly advised. Follow these steps to do it.

Now that you backed up your data, follow these steps:
1 - Go to opera://flags/#sidebar-site-panel
2 - Enable the highlighted option.
3 - Relaunch Opera GX.

After relaunching
1 - Click on the 3 dots at the bottom of your sidebar
2 - Scroll down, you'll see an option to add custom panels, click on it.
3 - Type whichever website you want to add, click on create.
