Usually, the default stock account will either be the company's stocks IE if you worked for Amazon your contributions will default to amazon stock. Or a stock that the company invests in as defailt. Like if you worked at a small factory it'd default to whatever investment company owns them or one they invest in but you can change it and pick whatever one you personally want

Yeah when you enroll into a 401k program it just defaults to the one the company picks but you can do in and change it. You can do partial stocks too. Like if you choose to contribute 3% of your paycheck into 401k, you can say like 1% goes to Amazon and 2% goes to google or whatever you want. You don't have to pick 1 single stock you can do multi divide

The main problem is the 401k is your retirement fund, so that can increase or lower by the time you retire so you gotta pick a good stock to do. Older people get fucked over by this method cause they usually don't realize they can change it from the default and some companies pick ass stocks for the default

Esp if your company owns their own stock which will be the default
