#Railway Deployment Crashed due to Low Credits and Logs are Missing

Hi Railway Team, I’m hoping someone can help me recover historical logs from a Railway service that’s now marked “removed.”

Service: owntracks-recorder
Date Range Needed: 2025-01-05 to 2025-05-21

  • I was running an OwnTracks Recorder container on Railway that ingested my location data and stored it in its local SQLite database.
  • My Railway credits ran out, and the service was automatically paused and then removed.
  • Because I didn’t have a log drain or external database configured, I’ve lost access to the live logs in the dashboard/CLI.

Thus far, I've tried the following:

  • Checked the Dashboard UI (no download option for removed services)
  • Used the Railway CLI (railway logs) but nothing is returned for dates before removal

Is there any way to retrieve the data in my old service now that the service is “removed”? If not, can the support team provide an archived dump of my logs for that date range?

Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

helo, we dont clear deploy logs when you run out of trial credits

lilac jungle
#

The service stopped, and then started again after I paid for an upgrade on the account. The new service has no history and the old service is marked as removed

empty crescent
#

yep, its removed, but you can still view its logs

lilac jungle
#

Any way to download the full logs since the inception of the service?

empty crescent
#

hobby users can access 7 days of log history, and pro users can access 30 days

#

we dont provide a way to download all logs for a service

lilac jungle
#

Any way to reactive that service? The app that it runs on has historical data that I cannot access unless through the service or logs

empty crescent
#

we only have a way to download logs for a specfic deployment

lilac jungle
empty crescent
#

do you need logs from more than 7 days ago?

lilac jungle
#

Yes, definitely. I'm running an app in which the full historical data was accessible under the initial service. Once that service crashed, I can only acess the last 5 days.

#

The service started from 5 Jan 2025

empty crescent
#

then you will need to be on the Pro plan so you can access the last 30 days of logs

lilac jungle
#

I see. Any way that I can reactivat the old service since it contains all the initial historical data that exceeds 30 days.

empty crescent
#

for up to 90 days of logs you would need to be enterprise

lilac jungle
#

Can we reactive the old service?

empty crescent
#

that will not bring you logs from before 7 days ago

lilac jungle
#

I believe it contains the historicla data that was contained since the beginning. For example, the app allowed me to access histroical data up until Feb and Jan when running on the old service, even though it was more thna 7 days ago/

empty crescent
#

are we talking about Railway deployment logs, or something else?

lilac jungle
#

Something else. The service on which the app used to run, would allowme to access full histrocial data. Since the crash however, I cannot access the same histrocial data even when I have deployed the service

empty crescent
#

okay then forget everything i said about the logs, i was given the wrong idea

lilac jungle
#

Sorry about that

empty crescent
lilac jungle
#

There is still data from before the deploy came back, but not the entire data. Any idea why that mightbe?

empty crescent
#

the application likely would have initialized itself with some seed data, but your data would be gone

lilac jungle
#

Could you explain what that means? I can see quite a bit of data, but not the full data. I don;t think the seed data would have been that much, so perhaps there is an archive that is there somewhere. Could you please help me to take a look into this?

empty crescent
#

where is the data stored?

lilac jungle
#

Let me check on this, will be back shortly

lilac jungle
#

Hi, thanks for waiting. I believe that it is under STORAGEDIR=/store.

empty crescent
#

you did not have a volume mounted to that path, without a volume data cannot persist

lilac jungle
#

But the data still persists even then. Any idea where else that data could be located?

empty crescent
#

that data does not persist without a volume

#

without a volume data is stored in temporary storage

lilac jungle
#

Any way to access an archived version of the service that may contain any form of data?

empty crescent
#

sorry but we cannot accommodate that request

#

unfortunately, unless you stored data in a volume, that data is not accessable anymore

lilac jungle
#

I see. Could you also explain why the service was terminated? I thought it was due to the credits running out, but from what I see the usage was within the plan

empty crescent
#

where you on the trial plan?

lilac jungle
#

I believe so

empty crescent
#

then it's likely you reached the 30 day trial limit
