You mean foods, right? Else we got Rock Trumpets (to get Rock), Wheat (can be made into food), Healshroom (medicines)... not sure about spores.
pretty sure they are talking about crops, there are multiple crops for warm biomes, but only beets for cold ones
Yeah I am talking about crops ๐
I saw another voting thread for potatoes a while back. Maybe it'd be worth combining the votes, since some varieties of potato can be grown over winter.
Yeah that's a good idea ๐
when i enter a mountain biome and all my farms switch to beets, I can almost hear all the villagers groan
I think fish and wheat can be cultivated in the mountains but those are later game
Iโm doing the ice age challenge right now, I would love potatoes or other cold weather crop. (Okay, I think the all beet soup diet is really funny, but Iโm sure my villagers would appreciate the variety!)
Ice Age is meant to limit your options, making it harder to mantain Happiness
Hmm so adding more cold climate foods... kinda negates Ice Age too
Actually... how about upgrading the crops instead? So that they will grow in a wider range of temperatures
A lot less work involved
Mh.
Selective cultivation, sounds interesting.
Yeah, maybe let Tomatoes grow, extend the 'yellow' range just a bit. That way with Ice Age on, Tomatoes still won't grow but in non-Ice Age games, Tomatoes grow... very slowly
I tried the ice age thing. Couldnt even plant warm climatw foods like cacti in the dessert. My people were starting because it was always to cold for crops ๐
Yep - that's the point of Ice Age... simplifying your management problems by taking away your options ๐
Now that I finished my ice age run, the limitations on my population wasnโt food diversity (beets, berries, fish, and wheat are all very doable), so much as amount of food and wanting to keep my population small. (It stabilized around ~250 villagers.) Limited food options is fine for me, but re: having more food to grow in cold areas, I think having another cold weather crop would have a lower impact on the game than changing the temperature windows for existing crops, since handling crop switching when switching climates is part of the challenge of the game, ice age or not.
Hard 30 runs - you don't have enough space to go with 100% Mansions. You need a few Communes or be limited to < 300 population. So more Doctors, more Herbs and you need to be able to either dodge negative events or be able to survive it i.e. you hit some parasites which causes Onbu to run into a toxic cloud then into the 2nd type of ruins - you lose all your crops/bushes, anyone who lives in a Commune is poisoned - your biggest threat is actually a low Happiness score. If you can't do events/etc to beat it, a large part of your population leaves
So... how about this. No new crops. But existing crops can be upgraded to tolerate a wider temperature range. BUT anything that's not in the green range, gets their grow rate halved.
e.g. Corn can be upgraded so it grows in the cold - but grows only half as fast outside the 'green' range
You can even make the green range narrower.
Hmmm... do we want to be able to grow the 'old' corn as well as the 'new' corn - or it's an all or nothing deal. Having two 'corns' - that's a new crop lol
That feels like a bigger change to difficulty level than potatoes
Yeah... I think just increasing the temperature range will do
