So I downloaded all the mods in the modpack and put them into my mod folder. When I launched minecraft (forge 1.20.1), it immediately crashes with the error code 1, saying, "An unexpected issue occurred and the game has crashed. We're sorry for the inconvenience." I tried using the ATLauncher beforehand, but it wouldn't even open up the game, same as the minecraft launcher. How would I fix this issue?

Thats the latest one, but they all say the same thing

Update:
Ive tried giving my version more ram, restarting the launcher, restarting my pc, reinstalling java and minecraft, and updating my graphics driver. So far nothing has worked. Ive tried to see if its a problem with minecraft, but its not as it launches just fine when I dont have the mods in. Im not sure what else I can do at this point.

off-the-bat: using Java 17?

remote junco
#

Im not sure, ive never had to check and dont know how 😅

#

But if I look at the about, this is what it shows

Java 8 (1.8.0) is for Minecraft Java 1.16.5 and older. you need to install Java 17 (17.0.9 is the newest version) to run Minecraft Java 1.17 and newer.

Ohhhh. Alright thanks XD

after trying to help someone with Foxy's pack - it turned out they didn't have Java 17 installed, and CF Launcher wasn't showing what Java versions were installed (unlike Prism, MultiMC or GDLauncher)

I just tested it with Java 17, and it had the same error 😅

#

Also I’m looking at the download and it looks kinda weird.

young marten
#

what launcher using?

#

CurseForge/Overwolf?

remote junco
#

I’m using the basic Minecraft launcher, but I’m using modded😅

#

It works with my friend but it’s being weird with me

young marten
#

ahhh. the stock Minecraft launcher does NOT like working with modpacks if you don't know how to dupe it in to working right.
personally; PrismLauncher is more reliable for running modpacks (which are installed as individual instances and can't be corrupted by Mojang pushing out an update at random, unlike using the stock Minecraft launcher)

#

That’s so weird XD
Now I’m confused how it worked with my friend lol.

#

Also this is what the java download looks like. I feel like its off

young marten
#

if you got it from the Oracle site for Java 17 - it'll work fine.

remote junco
#

Ah alr lol

#

Aight ima get prismlauncher and try to get that workin

#

thanks for the help!

young marten
#

s'alright. I've been using Prism Launcher since it split from MultiMC due to... differences... with how the MMC lead was handling the project (and less said about the blip that was PolyMC the better.)

#

Oh my gosh it worked! Thank you so much XD

welcome~!

#

and in the future - as long as a pack is available on CurseForge or Modrinth; you can download and install it within Prism Launcher and even update the pack as new versions are released!
only downside is for some packs (I think Beardy's pack and Foxy's pack are examples) - if a pack is hosted on CurseForge and the makers of mod(s) disallow third-party launchers from downloading their mods; the pack download and install will pause as Prism pops open a window with a list of mods you need to manually download (via web browser) and have Prism detect are downloaded before the pack will continue to install

#

that is less a problem caused by Prism Launcher itself; and more a problem caused by CurseForge wanting to monopolise the modpack and launcher scene over the past few years. so eh shrug

#

But both AT launcher and prism both have a solution for that

#

In opening a webpage. Downloading the mod then moving to the mods folder

young marten
#

if CurseForge didn't offer the option to block third-party launchers from downloading mods - then mod makers wouldn't use it.
it ties back to CurseForge changing their API to try and block third-party launches (namely MultiMC and its derivatives like Prism)

full citrus
#

Curseforge isn't against people using third party launchers
They let the mod devs decide

#

Else these third party launchers would not have an API key to get the mods in the first place

young marten
#

if CF wasn't against third-party launchers, then why-oh-why did they spend months back around 2022 screwing around with the API systems and sunsetting a known-stable one that every launcher used for one where CF could revoke API keys at-random to play whack-a-mole with third party launchers?

#

it was bad enough that for a while to use PMC you had to grab the API key from the Linux version of the CF Launcher and add that to PMC because CF kept nuking PMC's API keys.

#

of course, that was before the guy holding control of the PMC name went insane causing Prism Launcher to be born, but that's another story.

full citrus
#

lemme just say the multi mc dev didn't switch to the new api when all other third party launchers did due to a likely misunderstanding with the new api TOS

#

all other third party launchers did

#

and they work fine

#

and also third party downloads for some mods are disabled because if I recall rightly, third party downloads do not count to the rewards system

#

it is nothing to do with curseforge trying to make a monopoly on mods

#

curseforge gives control to the mod devs to allow third party downloads or not
