#Disable !pokecheck?

I think we need a thread to discuss threads to discuss suggestions first.
could be
I think it would be nice to be able to get rid of !pokecheck because it does cause a fair bit of spam. Unfortunately I also think that !pokecheck is much more convenient than searching through the pokedex to find if you have it or not
Currently it provides benefits of letting players know whether they have a Pokemon without needing to navigate separately to the extension. For mobile users, the !pokecheck command is quite helpful.
However, it also adds extra lines to chat, which some streamers may find distasteful, and can be pretty spammy. It also adds a level of confusion for players who don't understand how the command works, leading to several inquiries along the lines of "why did !pokecheck show that I caught the pokemon when I just threw a ball and it failed to catch?"
I feel like it's just a matter of weighing benefits to detriments, and making a determination.
Worth noting that people REALLY thought they needed !pokebag, but that's been gone for a long time and it's been just fine without it
Yeah good example, is anyone really missing pokebag now?
At first everyone was upset about it being gone too
the only thing I can think of that is unique to !pokecheck is checking what the last spawn was, which a lot of people do
yeah, 100%. That's what adds a lot of the value
I wonder if there's any way to make it equally convenient in the extention?
Like the most recent spawn shows up at the top? Sounds like a lot of work though
I thought !pokebag was supposed to show only how many of one item you have. Apparently it showed the entire inventory. That doesn't make any sense. 🤷♂️
what has that to do with anything? 😅
Yeah this has a huge amount of importance for me when streams lag out on mobile and the chat gets pushed way up. It’s a very easy way to see what the spawn was.
I agree with Generik on this. Pokecheck is not just valuable for knowing if you have the pokemon, it helps you know what the pokemon was if you arrive in chat 30 seconds late
streamers who dont want it in their channel can disable it right? i believe nomey has it so only mods can use it
That's the case for the !pokemon command which is a different bot's command
I dont believe it's currently possible for streamers to customise the commands of the PCG bot
No but the streamer themselves have the ability to ban the phrase "!pokecheck" so that no viewers can use that phrase since it is quite spammy. I believe that is what Nomey did in their chat if I'm not mistaken. At this point you could leave it up to the streamer and let it be their decision to "ban" if they see fit.
yeah i did that lmao i mod for her
we lose the ability to check via command what the last spawn was but you can just ask to be honest haha
I mean, ideally, you have 90 seconds to catch, considering you recognize the spawn immediately. Now without the pokecheck command, you'd have to go to your dex (which is not possible during battles), scroll to the entry, see if you have it, maybe check your bag for special balls like Net ball, and then type the catch command. Which might be all doable outside of battles, if you start checking immediately, AND know where to look in the dex. But, seriously, how many percentage of players know every gen for every Pokemon to know exactly where to look for the latest spawn in the dex? xD"
(okay, just noticed the search function, which is still language dependend, though, so seeing an English spawn with a spanish pokedex wont help you too much to figure out if you need it or not)
I agree ... I say keep it but leave it up to streamer discretion to turn it off for their chat or not
Isn't !pokecheck more like command for money?
Even if u remove !pokecheck it won't help with "spam" becasue people will spam "$" or something else for money
Checking in extension is more annoying then just typing !pokecheck
fair point. I often throw in a pokecheck instead of a $ even if I'm probably not going to catch the mon
Well, the bot doesnt reply to emojis or $ signs or whatever, so its definitely 3 lines less that appear in chat that way xD But I think the main issues here are that it just requires too much knowledge and too much "not being in a battle during spawn time" to be actually able to use only the dex to check out the spawn every single time. The dex is really helpful for someone like me to not need to pokecheck anymore, because now I know that there are only 8 spawns left I dont have in my dex, and all of them are A tier (while Pokecheck showed me not long ago that I unexpectedly still needed Gurrdurr), but if you are somewhere in the middle of the dex, its just too much caught to remember everything you got so far, and not enough caught to remember everything thats left.
Does anyone got a good idea how to make the pokedex avaliable if you are in a battle? I think thats one of the biggest problem. If thats solved we could let it the streamer decided it
Even IF the dex were available during battles, it'd still be quite time consuming, while battle timer would continue to drop down :/
What if:
- The pokédex highlighted, in some way, the current spawn/last spawn
and/or
- We had a separate pokécatch command that only catches if you don't have the poke?
!pokecatch dex ultraball, or !pokedex ultraball. It doesn't exactly solves the problem (checking if you have the pokémon during a spawn/during battle), but it allows you to try and catch it without checking, and if you already have it, you don't spend your resources.
There's a search bar in pokedex, but it might be harder for mobile people. I already noticed the less !pokecheck usage, specially that it takes 3 minutes to see ALL pokemon You're missing, I won't ever use !pokecheck again for sure, but it might be helpful for people who are just starting or are midway to their collection.
The only special situation would be like when the twitch dies -> I could pokecheck the current or previous spawn if the streamer doesn't have a sprite.
That is true. Pokecheck is very helpful for those bot hiccup moments
Wouldn't that be as simple as being able to change tabs while in battle?
Like having 2 PCG windows open?
Right now when you're in a battle, the other tabs are visable but can't be clicked. Wouldn't it make sense to be able to click the bag tab to be able to check your bag and then click back to your battle to continue battling?
Yeh I have always wanted to be able to do that
Like when a spawn pops up in battle I can't check which PokeBall choices I have. Is annoying
Would make sense - I think that this will be very difficult to develop but I can try finding a solution
I don't understand the battle issue..... I always tab out when in battles, all you have to do to get back into the battle is (on mobile or PC) just go click on battle and start and it pops you back in?
It’s still really useful if you missed the name of the spawned Pokémon
My recommendation would be to add the pokecheck functionality to the PokeBall, for example, where if you click it it shows the current Pokemon (if any) with "in Pokedex? (Checkmark or x)" under it, above linking to you and Jonas
I'm not sure if pcg has push or polling, but if so could also make the PokeBall have the light on during the Pokemon spawn as well if so;
Could also implement steamer preferences for pcg when the streamer can opt in or out for command or certains settings, i.e. whispering result of pokecheck to cut the spam in half, though i think there is power in uniformity of expectation for the app
P.s. can still show the previous Pokemon faded out if too late if that functionality is still desired, or to get fancy with the UI your could add the last 2 Pokemon to the left in smaller sizes indicating "previous"
