grim cliff
#

To me the Altair reminds me of the Integra more.

yeah i only think that because of its shorter wheelbase

#

and its nice too because then as mentioned before theres less in-fighting within the lineup with it being too similar to the saga

chrome tapir

wintry cairn
#

i suggest that you try and raise the bottom of the c-pillar window to be at the same height as the trunk as i think it would aid for a nicer bodyline

#

like curve it gradually to the back

lean glacier
lean glacier
#

And I think I’ll make the back window curved more

#

And the front will get a redesign too because I don’t like the way the bumper looks.
(It’s to high)

#

Maybe that you can still use the default covet bumpers.

#

(I’ll add a new bumper that fits it better, don’t worry)

solemn coral
#

Thing is, the Covet doesn't really look good with rounded features

lean glacier
#

There’s some things I haven’t said: after I’ve seen a prelude for the first time, I really liked the way it looked. So I wanted to make one in beamng. I quit the project a bit later and one month later I finally started working on the Ibishu Altair.
Took some inspiration from the prelude and at first I wanted to make the rear look exactly like on the prelude.
But it ended up looking different. (I didn’t put my ref pictures in blender)

#

I want to make this a bit sharper. Currently it only looks like that because of bad remodeling I did yesterday.

#

Does anyone have a good tutorial how to make lights?

zealous harbor
lean glacier
#

I think I’ll just model them. That’s not a problem. But making them work in game would (maybe) be a problem as I haven’t done lights yet.

zealous harbor
#

im sure there is a tutorial on youtube, or one of the other modders can help

# chrome tapir glowmaps are easy enough

theyre referenced in the materials tab, you also need either a texture on a glow material and also a broken texture, and also on e for light reflectors, i wouldnt advise reusin g the one from the 200BX since old glowmap system

lean glacier
chrome tapir
#

iirc covet indicators and fron lihhts are both baked into the same texture, you could use paint.net and converth them to targa, import into blender and the adjust uvs accordingly

#

id reccomend using the pigeon lights possibly with a modded glowmap theyre square ish and look nice even square

the c pillar looks broken now, it looks like it bows inward towards the front of the car
lowering the roof, and extending it backwards helped fix that issue.
also, give the top of the door some angle back, so it looks more like the car is in motion and more "sporty"
i also extended the front end, but thats not necessary.

#

i also made the rear glass bow outward a tad more, so it looks more Integra-like

Also, if somebody is interested in helping me with the mod, especially with the jbeam feel free to dm me.
I’m not that experienced with jbeam, I’ve only done some engine swaps and smaller parts before. To make progress of the mod a bit faster, that would be really good. I’ve had many issues with vibrating nodes when editing jbeams, if these issues wouldn’t be there I would have most of the jbeam ready.

obsidian fossil
#

I only can make skins sorry

chrome tapir
#

they can also be caused by colliding nodes/triangles or just the beam being flexed or compressed too much

lean glacier

I´m not sure if I´ll make a covet sedan next. But the altair will still take some time, I´m trying to make it as good as possible. Also there where some issues with the jbeam. I´ve deleted the old jbeam of the body and started again. Now I´m almost ready and there are no nodes vibrating currently. I still have to adjust the nodeweight but the nodes will get slightly heavier than they are currenty so I don´t thibk there will be issues.

#

the car is unhappy

chrome tapir

lean glacier

the jbeam of the body is (almost) ready, I only have to add some triangles. The best thing: no vibrating nodes

chrome tapir
lean glacier
#

The jbeam of the body is ready. Also no vibration with the rear suspension and fueltank installed. That was an issue before.

lean glacier
#

For anyone wondering how the car drives (without doors and windows, they don´t work yet): It drives amazing, and because its heavier in the rear than the normal covet you can corner really nice, theres a bit of oversteer but not too much, just perfect.

rotund path
#

That's what I like to hear, the basic covet handles horribly understeery

lean glacier

(no pictures, sorry)
I started to work on the non popup headlight version because the popup headlights still need some time and I want to get a beta version for my beta testers ready. I only have to add the fenders, it sadly can’t use the normal covet fenders because it’s 4cm longer in the front. For kljp I’ll ask Kueso if I can include modified fenders and hood in the configpack.

#

Or should I make it the same length as the covet so it can use default fenders and hood?
(Would be better for mod support for custom covet hoods and fenders, but the quarterpanels would be missing for a mod that adds something like a bodykit)

stoic cairn
#

the longer fenders would probably look better

lean glacier
#

Yes, I know. But I have to test if it’s worth it. Luckily it’s a very easy change to make thanks to blender jbeam plugin.

lean glacier
#

finally found out why the hood wasn´t working: The blender jbeam plugin removed the latch node when I was exporting the jbeam

lean glacier

got the late version with the normal covet headlights ready.

I can't wait to beat the absolute crap out of it on Utah

pure parrot
grim cliff
#

but idk my knowledge of modding mostly lies in modelling and not jbeam and slots

lean glacier
# pure parrot will it be able to have parts from other covet mods installed?

Headlights, front fascias and front bumpers and engines will work. I have a nodeoffset on these slots so it can use default parts. But hoods and fenders won’t work because they’re 4cm longer and use a different slot than default. And if you’re asking for parts from the kljp mod, I’m trying my best to make them compatible. And since I’m making a configpack too that adds configs with kljp parts I’ll include longer early hood and early fenders from kljp in the configpack. I already got permission to do that.

solemn coral
#

And hood

lean glacier
#

What fenders from what mod do you want to use?
Please keep in mind that it wouldn’t really make sense to have a longer and shorter unibody in this mod. And still, you wouldn’t have rear fenders, and I don’t think making this the normal covet slot would work.

solemn coral
#

Yeah, true

#

I'm the type to sometimes pile on mods, so I want maximum compatibility pretty much

#

I do wonder why you're trying to differentiate this so much from the regular Covet though

#

Cause if ever I feel like a Covet Coupe would share as much as possible, rather than having very differentiated parts (thank development cost for that)

lean glacier
solemn coral
#

Yeah, just the front mainly

#

I'm not asking about the rear, I know that it'd have to be very different

lean glacier
#

But having other fenders in the front and not in the rear would look weird. But what type of fenders do you wanna use?

solemn coral
#

Mainly fenders from other mods if they're available

#

(for example, Covet Type-RS)

warm cairn
#

aw hell naw wtf is that

solemn coral
#

I guess my standards aren't that high (it's still probably better than what I could churn up :/)

warm cairn
solemn coral
warm cairn
#

it simply depends on how much a manufacturer wants to differentiate the model

#

the prelude shares parts and engineering with other hondas

#

it wasnt its own platform i dont think, ever

#

this shares literally no original bodywork with the covet anymore so i think its fair to separate it out

#

as far as im aware the fascia isnt permanent but idk

solemn coral
#

Yeah, that's what I kept griping about, I was half-hoping that it would be straight-up a Covet Coupe, sharing as much bodywork as possible

warm cairn
#

i mean it still is very obviously that

solemn coral
#

Like, zero differentiation outside the coupe body I mean

#

Everything about the Covet/EDX, but in a three-box package

lean glacier
warm cairn
#

ah alright

solemn coral
#

I might make a body that just uses regular Covet parts for it then

warm cairn
#

im not sure why you're so hung up on this

#

the EG civic coupe doesnt share any bodywork with the sedan

solemn coral
#

Even the front?

warm cairn
#

i think its all slightly different

#

yeah

solemn coral
#

Oh

warm cairn
#

perhaps not

#

but it shares the same look yes

#

i know accord coupes didnt typically share bodywork with sedan counterparts

undone swan
#

wow

solemn coral
#

Apparently the sedan has a slightly longer fender IRL

#

(and hood)

warm cairn
#

yeah

#

they just look similar for obvious reasons

#

they fooled you too lol

solemn coral
#

Then I guess having the coupe with a longer front end makes sense

lean glacier
#

Like I’ve said before, custom fenders are planned, and I also take suggestions.

#

Currently only a factory widebody kit is planned (and the technica parts), but if someone else has ideas feel free to ask.
I definitely want to have more aftermarket parts.

warm cairn
#

you dont gotta change it all, i was just making the point that sport coupe variants tend to have unique bodywork entirely
its kind of why they phased out, its expensive to produce for relatively small buyer subsets

#

the sport coupe market exited for a very short period of time all things considered

lean glacier
#

The front is actually ready and it used a longer hood and fenders.

solemn coral
#

Now the question is, did the newer ones (i.e. 9th/10th-gen Civic) use the same fenders and hood as the sedans?

warm cairn
#

no those were different too

solemn coral
#

Cause if so, perhaps I've been looking at it from too new a perspective

#

Odd

warm cairn
solemn coral
#

It feels like it's just the bumper that's changed, but maybe that's an illusion

warm cairn
#

not sure but they are the same model years

solemn coral
#

I looked it up, yep just the bumper/grille (here's the coupe front on a 4-door)

warm cairn
#

when sport coupes started getting difficult to sell (by the time this civic was on the market, and about 5 years earlier) manufacturers made less effort to substantially change them

solemn coral
#

And I guess that's where I went from regarding "the coupe should basically be a different body and nothing more"

warm cairn
#

post economic recession too, kinda makes sense

#

eh it does depend on the use case

#

but typically, at least in the 90's things were different

lean glacier
#

Rear suspension is finally attached properly, before it was wiggling around when I was driving over the rocks terrain type in gridmap v2.

The car had massive grip issues. Now I’ve changed the way the rear suspension works (now it’s almost the same as covet mr) , and reattached it.
I also didn’t had to increase the nodeweights of the rear subframe nodes. Before the subframe was very heavy, and now it’s way lighter (same nodeweight as mr covet).
That fixed one more issue, the b pillar was vibrating after crashing.

The car still doesn’t have the best grip, but it’s a 170hp engine in a car with 5inch wide rear tires.
I’ll still rework the rear differential and drivetrain because it’s just temporary.

Are you attempting to make an awd system similar to Attesa E-TS?

lean glacier

Attesa E-TS was an awd system developed by Nissan and was used in quite a few cars including the r32-r34 Skyline, Attesa would sense if the rear tires are losing traction and would send anywhere up to 50 percent of power to the front wheels

The longitudinal engines, the turbocharger for the rotary engine, the lettering, skins need to be fixed, the digital gauges and the popup headlights need to be added. And some more things I don’t remember of some fixes.

lean glacier

you can also make it so aggressive cam upgrades gives the car a rough idle

more so on more aggressive cams

lean glacier
#

this is the torque curve of the 2.5l DOHC i4 engine. Is that good or should I change it a bit?

steep nebula
#

that's a lot of torque damm

#

only my opinion but i would think the covet would suit better a low torque high power engine with a high rev( if this engine is sport use oriented) to better suit its real life counterpart

lean glacier
#

These larger engines have a lot of torque

steep nebula
gloomy cosmos
#

My TJ Wrangler has the 2.5L and that makes 120hp and 140lbft factory, but mine has some upgrades so mine makes anywhere from 120-140hp and 140-160lbft, maybe more

lean glacier
stray lintel
#

Eh, still a unit of measurement referring to power

lean glacier
#

But I´m trying to make a new one in automation, with 200-220hp and peak torque at lower rpm (3000-4000)

stray lintel
#

Ah

#

Tbh imo, to get stuff like that, it's easier to achieve it with beam code

#

Thats my thought on it tho

#

I just dont understand automation enough to get numbers like that lol

lean glacier
#

I know, Automation isn´t the fastest way but I want to learn how to use it correctly.

stray lintel
#

Fair nuff

#

If that's so, then I'd try to make the car have more stroke

#

Er

#

Motor, not car

lean glacier
#

I´ll try that. This is the 3rd try now, but making engines in automation is pretty fast so it doesn´t really matter.

stray lintel

Just be careful with the rpm, more stroke usually causes you to not rev that high
