well, in short i think it’s better to isolate the heat in the rotor since it’s the part that has the most resistance, heating up the center would mean heating up parts pf the running gear including bearings and bolts

when i mountain biked i remember shimano started selling the deore xt brakes that had the same 2 piece system and i had no idea why it was

then i kinda understood when i bought my own pair, it’s another level the brakes are really smooth and the little play between the 2 pieces makes the braking really smooth with 0 vibrations
