hi. i'm trying to edit a mod so that it functions better
in its current state, the steering arms break even after short bursts, and the suspension catastrophically fails if u switch on the hydros for too long
and also id like for it to hop higher, i wanna be able to jump over people's cars in multiplayer x)
ive successfully got it to hop slightly higher by changing beamLimitSpring higher but it results in it being even more unstable, going as far to break simulation entirely sometimes
ive tried changing the strengths to FLT_MAX in bluebuck_suspension_F/R but that also results in the sim breaking
at this point im at my wits end on getting this to work better :(
i even used the global strength mod but it doesn't solve all the issues

I want to look into making a mod (in spite of some woes I have with another driving game that wasn't what I wanted it to be), and wondering if I can get some pointers to get started on modding (what programming language is used, what people use to compile codes, what libraries are useful, etc).
Once I get some fundamentals I can be off to the races, I'm not new to modding games
I want to make some GUI/interactable things, HUD elements, stuff like that. I'll also be making a custom map but I've already dabbled around with that

thats whats been updated in the last version update. try either running beam in safe mode, which disables all mods, and if it still doesn't work your update probably installed wrong

Delete the levels Italy folder from userfolder. Terrain file got messed up and is overwriting the game default one

Depends on the mod. Lua can be reloaded with control and all cars can be reloaded with control r. Any javescript there is an option in the dev console to stop cacheing so it updates in real time.

there are some other wip stuff and experiemental, you can poke arround, if you get any problems just delete it. if i can manage to get proper steering wheel steering working, that i will upload to beamng forums.

Hello all. Trying to mess around with the dump truck for some suspension work.
When I add a node offset or move either nothing happens to the position or the hubs just break and the wheels disconnect.
Anyone able to help me understand why or what I need to do different so the wheels rotation center point is aligned with the wheels center?

I wanna make some mods to stocks maps and be able to save those mods (adding obstacles/hills/potholes ect in world editor but be able to export that into a new map so I can have that for my beammp server.
I see people on west coast in a server with bumps and holes but I don’t know how they added it for everyone

had to verify game files recently and it's cleared what mods are activated/deactivated — is there any way to get that back without manually going through every mod?
i dont think so, i think it just deletes the json file that does it. its called jd.json i think, it sits in your mods folder and controls whats activated and stuff. you may find it in a backup version and be able to put it back into your mods folder?
the backups for some reason are missing the entire /mods folder so far as i can tell
unless theyve been put somewhere else but idk where they would be
ah well guess its going to be manual mods reenabling and testing for the next 3 weeks then T_T

hey guys, i have a license plate mod, but unfortunately it doesnt works.
its an UK license plate mod,
at first i was having an error which the most of the license plate was black, and only the letters' background was yellow
then i fixed it, but the license plate text was the wrong font and too small
i uploaded my own font, as a sprite sheet, but the license plate became like a mirror
i tried updating json, etc but didnt work
eventually I tried to get help from AI, but didnt work at all. the license plate looks like a mirror, doesnt have any textures or texts.
does anybody knows how to fix this error? or what i need to do?
You’d need to take the file out of levels, and put it in a mod folder
so if i go into world editor and make a massive hole in the ground. Then I just need my west coast level file to make it a new map?

Hello, does anyone know how difficult it would be for me to create a mod that allows for more button inputs for gear positions, (park and drive, neutral and reverse are already in the game) and a separate input for release/engage parking brake and not just hold/toggle?
I have a simrig and would like to get the shift-by-wire fully working with the game with the park button and parking brake switch. i already have them working and pressing virtual gamepad buttons, but there is no place to assign them to.

You have to SCROLL through that stuff though. OMG I couldn't. Also I only download mods that are legit and they are good quality and not made by sketch modders.
Although that is a tall order nowadays. Many good works, but it turns out to use stolen assets or completely stolen mod all together.
Take my mod - I use assets from Assetto Corsa, Forza Horizon 4/5 and a few things here and there from some people that were nice to allow me using their stuff. But I am up front about it, give credit, and I never expect payment.

I know a bunch of basegame cars are just one node that's like 500 LB and a ton of beams. But then the cages lowkey don't deform.
So I'm curious how I can JBeam the cage to be realistic ish. My biggest thing is that under semi normal and normal operation (IE not node grabbing or flying 50000 feet up in the air) that the body won't get damaged enough the cage sticks through

the structure would probably be three nodes tall (each level corresponding to the floor, beltline, and roof), and for the roof itself, a node at each of the four corners should suffice

that's a matter of either adding more attachment/support beams to prevent clipping, or adding geometry to the cage tubing there to allow it to bend with the jbeam (preferably both)

That's the issue with every basegame cage JBeam (that I know of off hand/worked with) they're a single node in the center.

dds is used because it saves on memory (iirc)
dds is lighter on load (goes directly through graphics card) vs png (goes through cpu then graphics card)

Yea, put it in desktop mode and it works as a normal pc. Don’t go near modland tho, just #mods-faq
I use Blender Steam Beta 3.6 and I have no issues.
IDK why they removed it, but also Blender updates never really seem to do shit that effects anything that I do (basic/semi basic modelling purely for Beam)

hey guys, im trying to test out a mod rn and im currently just using one part. i have the dae file, the jbeam file, the png texture file, and the info.json file, im just trying to get it to show up as a static object in game, and it shows up in the mod menu, but i cant find it anywhere in vehicles. im extremely new to this but im just trying to get it to show up, can anyone pls help

Does anyone have an understanding of how Garage-to-Garage filters vehicles in the 0.38 update? Previously, I was able to edit the contructor.lua file to make my own filters, however, that doesn't seem to apply anymore. When reviewing the changes in 0.38, I've noticed they added a vehicle filter function, which includes a whitelist and blacklist of configs. When trying to replicate the same format of their whitelist structure, I can't seem to get it to work with custom filters. When checking how the new garage-to-garage is setup in the Mission Editor, I see preexisting filter options, but it doesn't look like there is a way to make custom ones. This is what I'm trying to figure out. The context is that I have my own vehicle configs saved with corresponding info.json files. What I'm trying to do is filter by Author (myself) and by custom fields that I've included in my info.json vehicle config files (for example, Model Family).

I have jbeam almost done. Got everything else working. finishing Jbeam and then adding thrusters

This is a test bench that mounts on the car in place of the wheels (directly under the front or rear hub menu). It allows you to test your car (top speed, gearbox ratio, etc.) by simulating road grip. No more taking the car out of the garage every time you change settings. Most importantly, it can be used in career mode because the bench is attached to the car. This is not a prop.

theres no other way to conenct it so it has to use wheel hubs
Understand that the goal isn't to analyze the car's power output as in real life or this mod, but simply to test the car in each gear, see its top speed, and check for any potential torque issues, etc

Imagine you're building a dragster, and you'd like to know if the gear ratios you've set are optimal. All you have to do is install the dyno, get in your car, start the engine, and accelerate while shifting through the gears to see if the speed increases as it should, or if your ratios are too long, etc. So no data is needed, just to see the behavior.

I'm trying to manually calculate engine torque output with a spreadsheet and data from the engine jbeam files, but my torque values in the spreadsheet vs in game are off by quite a bit. For example, the Miramar 1.6L SOHC with a two barrel carb and the race 5 speed manual should, by my calculations, be putting out about 155Nm of torque at 3500rpm, but in game I'm seeing 94Nm. And according to the engine torque in the jbeam, it should be a fairly smooth arc from 0rpm to 9000rpm, but in game, there's a sharp drop at 6000rpm (engine starts taking damage at 7500rpm).
TL;DR: What data do I need to properly calculate torque output at the flywheel within a few Nm of perfect accuracy?

Example of use case:
I'm doing "result-based" adjustment settings for springs and dampers. Player puts in desired ride frequencies and damping rates in tuning menu and simple formula calculates proper spring stiffness and damping ratios.
The issue is that right now I don't have a way to reference spring rate, which means I had to copy formula for ride frequency in every place I needed that value instead of being able to just reference it. It isn't something that's impossible to work around, but as I'm adding more details, formulas are becoming quite overwhelming in their size and barely readable. When I tried adding variable with "min, max, default" set to formula instead of value, it was giving me pretty much random outputs.
I'd normally just do it in separate lua files but sadly I'm hopeless when it comes to any learning proper coding
uh... i mean, if the input takes the form of a tuning variable, you could plug it into an expression, kinda like i did here for the rear camber
and for hidden variables, you could reference the sunburst factory na ecu, which has a non-tuneable wastegate setting in case a turbo is installed
if you'd prefer some variables to be affected by jbeam part choices across the whole vehicle, components are generally the way to go
