Here's a demo of my wip idle stop-start system; ignore my bad driving, I was steering one hand with my wheel mounted to the left of me lol
Anyway, this logic applies for autos, DCTs (as shown) and CVTs, but:
If you are in drive, and you apply and hold the brake for 5 seconds (idling) the engine turns off. Any throttle input will restart the engine
Applying the parking brake, releasing the brake pedal, applying any throttle, or shifting into another gear will cancel the 5s countdown out and stop it from turning off
This logic is similar for manuals and sequencials, however it differs a bit ofc (requiring first gear instead of drive)

I shifted a claria so many times without the clutch that it no longer drives and takes about 5 straight minutes with my foot on the accel and clutch in first gear at 95% damage to actually start, and it barely drives anyway lol
