Okay the pigeon/wigeon vivace-E swap is at a point where it moves... but my guages don't show up and it doesn't go into reverse, which might have something to do with the fact I had to trick the game into thinking the motor is also the gearbox in order for the stock driveshaft to work. I've a lot of work to do lol.

ok i saw this on the forums and i wanna educate some up and coming moders on subsurf
it is almost always not a good idea to use it
let me show you why
let me use this as an example
the model is currently not very high poly
and i wanna make it a bit smoother in some areas
this is what it looks like using the subsurf modifier
it makes the polyflow of the object really messy and creates unfavourable shapes
by making this manually you have nice controllable polyflow
and vertecies only when you need them

ive been trying to fix why the angles are working sometimes but in other areas are completely off
this is what it should be, with the yellow line intersecting the green vehicle marker
but in other angles it doesnt work
so I decided, what if on the canvas that has the overflowvehicle markers, what if I put a line from the focus point to the border and rotate it with the same angle, perhaps that could help me find the issue

for a high poly thats fine, but maybe think about baking that out so you dont have to worry about possible spiking

when it bunches up like that it can sometimes cause spiking on deformation, what you can do is take that model and bake it down to a normal map, and just reduce the edges to like
you also have modeled bevels, try to avoid that
good for a high but bake it out

I don't know, I just read in the beamNG documentation that I can just make the low poly objects (like the hood) then manually "model" the normal map in an image editor

I'm using the Barstow model as reference, I just notice the door gaps for example do not have edge loops, yet in game it appears to have a "bevel" even if the literal model does not

what the devs do is bake a full white diffuse map of their cars' UV map and run that through a height map to normal map tool

that is neat, wouldnt be as clean and detailed as a hand made bevel but you get 90% of the output for 25% of the work

I mean you have to account for optimization, like technically yes if you had all the time in the world you can make the models beautiful and realistic, but beam ng would take like 500 years to make.

At that point you might as well start modelling details like the piston rings and stuff
you also would be unable to change the size of a bevel, if you wanted a more rounder one

well it would either apply to the whole map or you would have to do some cut and paste work
you just have to edit your base UV diffuse thing and blur the edges or soften them

they use the same chassis texture for literally every car
I just use GTA since most people know that but if I said 'well iracing does xyz' xD
that is probably as high as I would go for a bevel of that size
one trick I know of is deleting the round bit and making the edges smooth ones, that makes it look the same but if its big the user may see a flat spot sometimes
its one of the things where you would want to see how much your overall polygons are and if you can spare a bit
you don't need a lot of geometry to make something look round
a 3 sided cylinder still looks like a perfect cylinder from the side
yee, a lot of games these days actually do bevels with a flat angled cut and make it smooth
cut down on the geo and let the shading do the work
heck even a single segment bevel can make stuff look round
around 280k poly for all two versions and engine (70k poly iirc)
only body - 17k
that is quite high, but I would not call it absolutely horrid. I would recommend dropping it if you can, since for reference the d-series with literally every part possible on it is 350k

yeah high poly meshes don't affect the FPS too much, it's more so about general optimization, looks, and (not valid in your case) better deformation
I've noticed that the lower poly a car is, the less impressive it deforms

the model i'm working on it's taken from an assetto corsa mod, i guess every game like that have high-poly models. If you build the model from scratch you decide the "quality" of the model, modeling is not hard, it just takes lot of time and if you want to try modding you can't entirely skip the modeling part using prefab models, cause than you'll surely have to modify them and be able to use the program, so maybe start getting familiar with blender.
yeah, like, modeling isn't that hard in general, it's the optimization that makes things a little tricky

When I first learned how to model, I just followed a super outdated car modelling tutorial, and modelled cars over and over and over until I got good

And it's most likely due to better communication, less corporate objectives such as merchandise quotas, etc etc

Yeah, technically speaking, the "definitive" editions are just the mobile ports, which by the way, were WAY worse than the OG games cus, well, mobile. I think San Andreas is the largest culprit. You should see the comparison videos between OG and definitive, it's depressing honestly

here's the way I see it. I'm glad I have the chance to live these games since I didn't have the chance too when they first came out, but the only reason they're good, is because the original games were good, what was "improved" was just lazy, they couldn't even bother to raise the polygon count on the cars.
I mean San Andreas is San Andreas, a great fricken game. You can't change that. But side by side comparison really shows how lazy rockstar has gotten with rereleases, new content, and just cash grabbing in general

I just wanted to make a funny post on how being a beginner i make mistakes (with the first video i mean, then i sent those two pics just to answer to them), but then people keeps pointing out my errors. There’s a learning curve, people don’t make right things immediately.
Explanation remaining in the context: i had the model by an assetto corsa mod, it was awful; i remeshed it an tried to have something in game just to see it. It had too many jbeams, and reduced them, now i want to work with values to make it rigid like actual metal.
Remember that lot of people just refuses to work with doing jbeams and meshslap

is your default gearbox mode (in Gameplay settings) set to Arcade or Realistic? there is currently a bug that I haven't had a chance to fix yet that crashes the vehicle's script engine if you have that set to Arcade
if it's set to Arcade, change it to Realistic and see if that fixes it
can you upload the "beamng.log" file in your BeamNG user folder so I can take a look?

I can't really do much without logs unfortunately; there's an infinite number of reasons that could cause it to not work
