so i was able to use my semis on the game two days ago, then i boot it up yesterday after work and the engines die as soon as they spawn. no update to my knowledge, nothing changed. even the base game semis dont work. uninstalled and reinstalled, verified integrity, removed all mods. only thing that makes them work again is launching in safe mode

would you mind explaining why? personally, I don't understand too much of that matter, but would be interesting as I could imagine getting into the modding scene of beam in the future.

pbr textures are all about recreating how a real material acts, and these textures can be finicky in ways that a tool like quixel/substance deals with in the backround
for example it is possible to use colors in an albedo map that are impossible for the material you are trying to make
if you were using quixel or substance, you would be able to see in real time that your material is really wrong
plus it makes your maps line up correctly
for example if you have a rusty pipe
you will want a metallic map which has white where its metal (non rusty) and black where it isnt (rusty)
good luck lining that up, if it is done incorrectly then you will get weird outlines
roughness maps have no science to them, painting a roughness map is all about what looks right
normal maps didnt change so thats however you did it before

ah okay, ye. makes sense. I heard that especially that is sort of problematic when skinning for ACC as most of the time, you choose your base material in-game rather than creating it in the image editor software.

Base color should be devoid of lighting information
Dark values should not be lower than 30 sRGB (tolerant range) or 50 sRGB (strict range)
Bright values should not be higher than 240 sRGB
for the previous method you could just take a pic and slap it in, but pbr needs really specific things
