I love when beamng randomly "autogenerates" all the materials in a model in completely fucked up ways, flips random textures upside down, and makes random other materials able to render through them! This game definitely isnt a useless hump of bad code!
everything works find in blender, textures are correct, none are corrupted, or up to unusual standards
So… rotate the textures… use normal alpha clip instead of lerp, or apply a z-write…

I've been thinking about what I would do after the 600 and the first gen R8 is my favourite car and afaik there are no lore friendly mods for it so maybe a new brand would be the most suitable option because I don't think ETK would be right for it

Personally I'd see if you can do something else cuz the r8 is pretty mechanically complex and using scintilla stuff would be a great shame
You'd have to at least semi model the front and rear frame and st least partially the engine ( you could use the scintilla block but different headers, exhaust, valve covers and such
Oh and learn either substance painter or any form of texturing that isn't just a drawing software

I have done some experiments with custom shaders, but I have only tried some simple post processing effects so far.
The games shaders are stored in source form in the games install directory under shaders\common\, if you make a mod that has the same path in it you can add/override shaders there without changing game files.
To get a custom shader to actually load in game you need to create some necessary objects in game through a lua script.
Or maybe you can define them inside a materials.json file, but I havent tried that.
You can use the Torque3D documentation for additional reference on the created objects, but some information might be outdated because the game uses its own customized version of the engine.
You need at least a ShaderData object:
- Game code for reference:

And either a PostEffect object for post processing effects:

Shaders can also utilize GFXStateBlockData and GFXSamplerStateData objects, but I don't know much about them:

Also, the shaders are cached, so if you make any changes, you need to clear your cache or delete the temp\shaders folder inside your userfolder, and then restart the game to make them show up.
The problem I’m having is the material shader I need to change is not exposed, it’s part of the game engine DLL. I have experience with post processing shaders, that’s pretty much easy because you just inject afterwards. I need to override the built in t3d material pixel shader to make the changes I want.
So yes, I could use inject another material shader per object by default. But I’d rather have a switch saying which pixel shader it’d use.
You can probably override all the default materials with CustomMaterials that use your own shader, but you would still have to make an entirely new shader if you can't modify the existing one

with beam specifically, try to rely on normals rather than polygon geometry for detail (this'll improve performance on both the graphics and physics sides)

20kb per frame is alot. You could consider caching objects like vectors and colors https://documentation.beamng.com/modding/programming/performance/#avoid-garbage-collection
then your avg runtime is >2ms. For comparison a systems running the game at 60fps has only 16ms todo all its stuff, so 2ms alot. Or for another comparison, my pwu mod takes 0.32ms avg and the devs called that already tanking the performance.
As a programmer, you should keep in mind the performance implications of your code.
This is not just about optimizing code, but also about consciously choosing code architectures that favour performance.
Important: it doesn’t matter if things work “fine” in your computer. Your code could end up running in wildly different computers, where ...

The way that works and i dont know if thats applicable to you, is that all the math that determines where things are drawn with whatever color is calculated in a job (or in your case during the load of the ghost) and then it just does a for loop through the results with each frame and draws it
I did tried to pre calculate all of them and havin them stored, but the game did start at 15 frames and stayed at 15frames, drawing them at once each frame... If I only calculate the last 2 and have all them stored I end up at the same 15 frames bu at the end of the lap, (on long laps)

you could do the distance eval in a job that runs in the background that feeds a render pipe that the actual per frame render uses

Let me clear something up: Many people think that zip files can contain viruses. Even if they do, you don't run them yourself, nor is there an .exe file. Many "noobs" get redirected to third-party sites that then open another tab during the download, and people are so stupid that they fall for the pop-ups. Or they click on an ad that says "download." So in short, as long as you don't run anything yourself, it's "safe." But if someone gives you a mod installer, that's a red flag.

You need to rotate the engine 90°, remove the front halfshafts, add a driveshaft, add rear diff, add rear halfshafts

Maybe you can make the halfshafts go to the rear wheels instead. It's not realistic driveshaft wise but would do the job. Go into the halfshafts jbeam and change the powertrain to go to the rear wheel's nodes
