I have a somehwat generic question regarding map building. My city offers 3D models of the city, they are for realtime use and very simple, but accurate. They have meshes for roads, bicycle lanes, canals, you name it. It's all there. I hardly have any 3D experience but for someone with little practical experience i'm quite well versed in the subject of meshes, uv maps, textures, poly budgets etc due to interest and relevance in professional background. I'm trying to assess how many shortcuts can be taken to creating proper functioning basis of a map. I've pulled the meshes into blender, then into a beamng map and as expected all works fine, the city is there. So I think with that, there's a pretty significant fast-forward already in building a map? While meshes of roads do not equal a proper roadnetwork yet, i'm sure some of this data must be useful to repurpose and and by automation save some time in building roads. The water meshes can be used as a shape to lower the terrain and this way canals and rivers should show where they ought to. Now from what i can tell, the largest time consuming part for which i dont see a shortcut, is the texturing of the meshes. The buildings are all just claymodels. The meshes of google streetview and such photogrammetry based are probably too different due to the productionmethod? Will be hard to fit that coat over proper square meshes? I'm not willing to actually try and texture a whole freaking city. I'm quite advanced with ComfyUI but I also know how hard it can be to generate exactly what you need. I imagine I would have to export some sort of template based on the meshes and run that through comfy to get the right shapes of the building, but even then we're looking at a pre war european city where nothing is the same, every building has a different shape. What generative/ai shortcuts do we have?
ai isnt really gonna help you at all with anything beam ng related if you want it to work and look decent
I mean an image is an image so why would it not nwork with beamng? but i do see how resolution and controlling the process in such a way that you get accurate enough assets is going to be far fetched yes
I ideally still want the steering wheel, pedals, and shifters to work - it's just a mod I found online but don't know if that changes anything
What is the typical modders approach to building textures? Aim for more repetitive buildings and limit the scope that way?
the more you can use one texture for more than one building the better
^reusing vanilla stuff where possible, remixing it elsewhere if you can and just grabbing cc0 stuff from places like polyhaven to fill gaps. you should not start with bringing in hella external materials, file size explodes if you do that as step 1
Right right. I guess I could just throw a brick texture on the load of building meshes and just go from there, delete buildings and replace with generic but more detailed ones and focus on the areas that count. Was just browsing for stock stuff and there are some pretty good modular street sets that could do the trick

yes vanilla means in game stuff
yeah, stuff from beam. i wouldnt be too quick to get rid of unique buildings, but at the same time dont get attached to them. just spend the effort on reusing as many materials as you can first

Yeah, makes sense. BeamNG is all very American so even if its not super accurately my city at all corners, it still will be much more european which is fun on its own
Perhaps see what procedural generation can offer
proc gen isnt that great, you would probs be better off grabbing some of the architectural tools/addons for blender and going from there. you might be able to knick some basic assets from italy or nature stuff from the etk driving centre. you could also ask some mod authors about borrowing their assets, asking politely and crediting them gets you pretty far
It would still need to be based off of models right, so all of what you said still rings true, but regarding proc gen; if i have to generate long streets but each house has 10 components that i can somewhat randomize, i guess this can be a timesaver. Big investment upfront but could become a huge timesaver? Plus more enjoyable to build that way for me probably

i mean you would need to change the props from lef to right wich may not be too hard um i think you may be able to watch filmans video on how to make props work in automation cars it may help

Since itās an assetto port, the fences around the map grab you, so I need to hand place about ~20km of mesh road thatās skinny to act as a collision wall so they donāt grab

Should be a UI app called performance timers, go on grid map and press the gas

Last time I checked, beamNG is physics based, which means everything, even tire pressure, how hard you hit the gas, manual shifting, temps, and much more affect the 0-60
So donāt complain about it not being a good game or anything like that, in real life they manually test them so why wouldnāt they in beam
People fail to realize this game is still early access
automation automatically tests the cars, something like that is more than possible in beam

Seems a bit hard to do, since I would need to either run with the atock tiny bed which is narrow, or shorten the bed sides we already have, which would mean that they just become wide out of nowhere

Yea true and you cant port cars like an assetto map. An assetto map literally can just be dragged directly in game after exporting the dae. I did it just to see how easy it was
I mean you can also just put a e36 body on an I-series and call it a day.

no you cant its nothing like an assetto map you don't have to make any materials you literally just have to drag the dea in game and click one button to give it collisions, 2 buttons and it will have decals and you dont have to do anything.
And it will be very ass, poorly optimized and have tire poppers everywhere

Can anyone help with the mission editor? I tried to do a world edit on a mod level to add some bits and time trials, but I now cannot access the map at all, reinstalling the mod doesnt work, and even accessing it through the mission editor results in a lua error and BeamNG bricking itself

All baking textures is for is making a low poly model seem higher and or turn 3d modeled parts into textures IE - intake welds then baked onto a low poly model show it turns the modeled welds into a texture.

I wonder when somebody is going to make a Reliant Robin mod. I would like to see one with all three models. Mk 1 from 1973-1982, Mk 2 from 1989-1999 (the one featured in that infamous Top Gear episode) and Mk 3/BN-1/BN-2 from 1999-2002 Don't forget the Top Gear shuttle one!
The only two attempts of a Robin mod for BeamNG was a project that was cancelled back in 2014 and a garbage ModLand mod that is supposed to be the MK 1, but it is a broken Pigeon meshlap, and I hope it did not install malware on my computer!

I went into offical conent looked for in wheels 18x8 jbeam and dea of what wheel was similar.
Take Ex Hoirochi_wheels_F and replace internal name with (examplewheel_F) and then use the move, scale properties on the flexbodies to correct fitmet to wheel. Then use the offset in lower portion to adjusta the offset node.

materials is best just to assign in blender, then when exporting the model for beam to see. It will list those materials in the material editor and then you can just edit the properties for what material you want.

yes. if you move a vehicle back on a road then it will also save that for some reason. so if you dont deliberately want to change it, then you can delete those folders

From someone who has experience with jbeam I decided to have a laugh one day.
It failed quite heavily with weird file structure to hallucinating how jbeam works as a whole. I mean give it enough context and that you already know what you are doing with jbeam it can slightly help
