the mod might provide a skin uv png, if not, import the dae into blender, find all the paintable body panels mesh and use their second uv map layer, and go to uv edit mode, ctrl a, and if the uv map looks like it could get a livery then in the uv tab hit export uv layout, with resolution of your desired size, or double it’s width if it looks oddly narrow
or it doesn’t even have a livery slot

just bc you have it doesn't mean its virus free. you realize that they can have a virus inside lua ingame? could still be an infostealer or whatever. For that reason you should only download repo approved mods because they get checked for that stuff

Well if any is infected it could mean a number of things. Viruses come in many different ways. Yes to some extent too late, but you could avoid it getting even worse.

No one should be getting mods from third party sites, including your friend. The reason the repository exists is because each mod that gets uploaded is checked and verified by the BeamNG team

im not a fan of the way beam UV’s typically are, in LFS they typically have an overprint so you can see where your boundaries are
eventually going to try and map this livery to bx when i get my kit ported
just load the model in blender and show the uv wireframe and overlay it on the skin uv
or if your using a vanilla car just use the skin uv and overlay it as its wireframed

many european cars still just have a single reverse light and on the other side have nothing or a reflector

Gavril Vertex is unique and has allot of configs
Ibishu Kashira is good for similar reasons to the vertex
and any paid lore car is pretty damn good as well
(Besides maybe the Patriot. I have heard mid reviews on it personally. But I don’t have it)

Would making a modded level be a better starting point than going straight for a car? I have modded other games before, Mostly small unity games though. So I was wondering if anyone had a opinion on which is a better route to take when you're new to modding BeamNG?
if your end goal is to make cars, start by making simple parts for already existing cars to get the hang of it

I am crazy about the state of Hawaii because of the game TDU that I played a lot as a kid. The road tool was recently updated, I have modeling skills, I think I can make houses. I really want to make an island in the game. On this island, they plan to recreate 1:1 several areas, including part of the city. soliad is firmly american. hirochi probably would be the closest suitable vanilla option unless you are considering using an american brand as a rebadge option and skipping making the jdm version entirely. you could probably ask about using the arima brand from the mod author, that would be far more appropriate

Nah it’s pretty high. There’s allot that needs to be done before you can even start making your map tbh
I’m not sure the technical reason why but most assets will have to be in the map file itself yes. Though there are some common assets too like racing flags, barriers and signs

now how about height map generation? it looks like you have to have a full heightmap PAINTED OVER with all your roads/features predefined

instead of painting textures with colored diffuse maps, you have to rely on the base heightmap for all your features?
You can use the terrain tool in game to edit the height however you please
And you can paint manually if the map isn’t PBR. Personally I upgrade my maps to PBR very late in the process
So I paint with a diffuse map, export the terrain when I’m done and then use photoshop to color and texture those individual layers and merge them into one overall color map for PBR

Not sure. I think there is a way to have the PBR terrains work as a pseudo diffuse map if you just make each texture a solid color.

Yeah it can be when updating already PBR stuff. If you’re making a new parking lot where it used to be grass for example your parking lot will just be green until you manually update the texture image with your photo editing program of choice

Previously I would have said roads yeah. But I think now it’s just general texturing and retexuring to give your map that final bit of separation from vanilla assets.

this has been hapening for a while. i have the core mod required and cleared my cache, and still have the broken texture wheels. just the wheels
This has been happening with several people. I don't know why, but just know that this is a common problem
99.9% of the time it's not the game itself that's at fault
Some core causes are
- The mod uses a texture that was removed from the game
- The mod replaces the materials file of vanilla content, which overwrites the default materials, which essentially makes the materials stuck on an old version, while the content continues to update, causing mismatches and missing materials
- The mod replaces the model files of vanilla content, which means the materials get updated, but the model doesn't, causing mismatches and missing materials
It's a common problem because modders don't prepare for updates sometimes 😄

Also, uncompressed files making the game update "patching" much longer due to a large delta. The 0.33 update patches 49GB files, which also put a strain on the SSD/HDD
yep! although I've gone back and re-tested and determined that the speedup I saw may have been caused by Windows caching the files in my gigantic RAM
although I do note that mods, which generally use the same format/unpacker, are usually compressed... but not assets 🙃

if you want, you can enable NTFS compression, which won't compress quite as well as ZIP and it'll introduce a severe bottleneck... but it'll work 😅

We get a hotfix where they changed 5 lines of text, and end up making our drives work for several minutes patching upwards of 40gb sometimes
The drive I have BeamNG on is the loudest in my PC, despite being one of the newest ones

i would guess that it would load slower since the game would now have to uncompress things
most of the CPU time is spent parsing the assets anyway, decompression makes up a very small part of it. in my tests, when CPU bound, it was roughly equal (within a tolerance of ~10%, which was the overall error anyway)
note: I'm using an AMD CPU, which are unusually well-suited for decompression (too long to explain here) but Intel CPUs might do slightly worse
and of course, file compression significantly speeds up disk-bottlenecked computers (like mine 😅)
no issues. As long as the zip files use the DEFLATE algorithm and conform to gzip specifications, it will work
I used an extra long 256-byte buffer to enhance the compression and it worked flawlessly... but it does take a WHILE to compress those assets 😅
note that mod zip files are almost always compressed and they work just fine on the same code
overall, I support the developer's decision to keep the assets uncompressed, because I'm a programmer and I know how painful it is when a user thinks they understand your software better than you 😅... but as a guy with Not Much Storage Space I do wish that they were compressed
in general, modern games will compress their assets because parsing the files takes much more CPU anyway and you might as well save the disk space (see: RDR2, Overwatch, Barotrauma, Just Cause, etc), UNLESS your game engine doesn't support it (ie. Unity)
(some games even keep the assets compressed while they're in the GPU, which is pretty nuts)
(also note: it took FOREVER to compress those files, I have an overclocked 7900X3D and it took like ten minutes on all cores)
patching times are mostly affected by the size of the file, because if Steam needs to patch a chunk in the middle of a 2GB zip, it's going to have to overwrite the second half of the zip even if the data was not changed
the worst offender is Foxhole, which stores all of its assets in a single uncompressed 17GB file 😭

hi folks, ive been playing beamng for a while and am only now trying the track editor out for the first time, but was curious about something, the moment the editor loaded first time i can rotate around with the mouse but i cant seem to zoom in or out at all, naturally i tried the mouse wheel, certain keys in combination with moving the mouse and/or scroll wheel, but i cannot seem to find anyway at all to zoom the camera out, and the editor is essentially stuck at a very close zoom which i can only imagine is going to make building a track neat to impossible

So I downloaded 2-3 T-Series chassis and drivetrain improvement mods, and some off-road wheel and tires mods. When I select a twinsteer chassis, only the front-front wheel has an option for the "Heavy Steel" wheels, while the front-rear has no option like that, and way less options in general. You have to clear all the mods in the mods>multiplayer folder except for the 'beamng' zip file in that folder. then clear recycling bin, then clear cache through beamng launcher. then theyre off your storage
