Hey guys I’m making my first mod on BeamNG. Any Suggestions?
Start with a part mod, not a full car
i love the model T, it would be awesome if somebody made a mod for one, possibly a non "ford" version to fit in with the game. the big advantage in having a well done T is exploring potential in its offroad bahavior, they were desighned for unpaved roads. its very much a good opposite end of the spectrum for being so extremely widespread and ideal as your primitive (but good looking) car
someone is making a prewar semi truck, something like a ford model AA (for later models), but that just isnt what the model T is and what it would capture
i just had another idea, a stanely steamer. i dont think theres any steam cars really, so maybe someone wants to jump on that
i for one would go wild if i could mod but id be starting from scratch, outside of physical modelling skills
not to be an ass, but suggestions like these are very unlikely to ever be acted upon unless specifically asked for
im kind of just sparking conversation and i dont know if anyone has been thinking of this and has the ability
its definetly a more unique thing to aim for instead of more cars from later eras that have plenty of mods already

nobody really does. some will hear out suggestions occasionally, but anything you are likely to request is either something they will never do or would have been on their list anyway

You can't simulate Steam engines in beamng
You'd literally have to program the Steam engine logic and adapt it to work with beamngs Powertrain and fuel system
there was somebody who made an acceptable steam locomotive mod awhile back

I highly doubt anyone has coded a steam engine since that sort of complex Lua is very hard

Moving parts are difficult to code
You have to code all the logic in the lift which is very hard

Well you know how beamng uses beams and nodes? There's some special beams called hydros that you have to program to make stuff like that, but you also have to make sure it's supported and that it doesn't cause issues with other collidable parts.....
Then you'd also have to code what Input triggers the hydro and bind a key bind....
and thats not straight foward?

when I delete trees and save then reload the map all the trees and brushes I deleted come right back
The directory is likely messed up. You’ll have to change the reference folder by editing the text with a program such as Notepad++

It’ll currently be referring to a base game map. Change the base maps name to your maps name

That may also be why it’s not working. I have only ever seen the forest be called main.forestbrushes
So it’s possible that if you are editing the fresh.forest that it isn’t able to read it when reloading
There already is one thankfully so if you delete the others it shouldn’t cause any problems (make a backup just in case)
also the "theForest" file in the game is not in the "vegetation" category
so it was probably saving to one of the other files instead of the normal forest.brushes?

It’s just funky with some objects even ones that aren’t trees. If you aren’t hitting anything then don’t worry about it

Delete the file in your unpacked folder and leave the one in the 0.32 folder

I deleted all the trees from my 0.32 and from my unpacked and they are still there
every tree file has a "4" at the end
They are referencing another maps forest file then. So you need to change what it references. I think it’s in the main/items.levels.json file but I’m not 100% sure

ive really just given up at this point, i put the forest files like all the trees and all the forest json files in a backup, loaded the game and there are no trees. I put the trees back into their folder and they dont reappear and I cant add trees with the forest tool

So i added a diff to a mod car and the diff shows up in the parts list in game but it doesnt actually send power to the wheels. Just free spins and i cant remember why transaxles or transmissions n stuff do that

And as for multiplayer, you need to download a mod (like BeamMP for example, find a download tutorial for that)

my friend is doing some skins in Assetto, and we wanna make one for beam, but we dont know the technoiques..., do you think this work?
im not sure i follow that at all tbh. the forums have a guide for skin making somewhere, the gist is that you draw on a template using image editing software. you could technically bake something in blender or substance i guess, but simply assigning new materials in blender wont work as that just isnt how it works for beam

beamng repository. modland mods are often meshlaps or laced with viruses
you'd be surprised what you can find on the beamng forums, which is found on google or other browser
just to give you an example, I found this audi on the beamng forums. it has working doors, isn't a meshslap, and is very high quality with working gauges.

A car port from Carmageddon is kinda a neat way to boil down a vanilla car to it's very base simple components but even then wow I forget how complex the system really is
The example car v2 doesn't use pressure wheels and main engine, would certainly be more than happy to share the new base if I ever figure this out lol

The traffic cars, are they are just considered a parts configuration and I trim whatever is not included in that pc
the drivable simple traffic cars are really similar built to automation cars

i figured out that adding new wheels to a car isnt as easy as dropping the JBEAM file into the respective car files
how should i go about getting the mesh to the car file i want it in?
ha, what great timing - i'm doing this right now! so, i go to content to find common.zip, and you want to find a matching pair of wheels and tires under their respective directories (ie 5 lug civetta bolide wheels and the tires jbeam that matches it)
then, you want to copy those to your project vehicle and rename any references to the original civetta parts, and don't forget to change out slot type in both the wheels & tires, and the parts like the hub that the new wheels are supposed to fit onto

hardest part will be the back and forth process of isolating the wheel meshes from the automation export DAE files
but i guess this is how i learn to mod this game
you can mash everything into a single dae that looks horrible in blender but is completely usable, the flexbody section tells the game what parts to use from that model
yeah ive poked around some automation .dae files in blender, and its all in one clump
you could do a wheel in a separate dae and replace all for any reference to the original flexbody mesh name
thats what ill end up doing for the final product
once you dont have to export from automation anymore you can remove the old wheels for good
but each wheel has its own colors and colormaps
