š i dont drive without crashing long enough for tire wear to ever matter if i had it
same for drafting but those arent actually simulation it just gives the effect of it
the naming convention for the nodes in the kit car documentation is rather confusing but its starting to click, i also see why the names are so short - can't see what youre looking at unless you get close in the node viewer, but definitely worth it for the organization

leaving off with this for tonight, ;-; none of the suspensions i tried to adapt were particular cooperative, may just end up modeling my own jbeam of the suspension
biggest issue i'd have would be as seen above, suspension would spawn like, upside down and generally act funky, still cool that i got engine mounts and such working

It loads them differently, you cant disable them like with mods, they dont get checked the same way and there is literally no reason you should put it there

Don't install mods from WoM or Modland, places tlike that. Those mods are low-quality, stolen, could contain viruses/malware and may also have illegal content hidden inside.

If you want to add extra parts for the windows, I suggest adding a "slots" section to your custom bed. You can see how vanilla vehicles do them on something like an engine with all of the parts.

Thereās even a line in the section explaining the 3 elements of a slot: the internal name, the default part for the slot and the name of the slot in the part selector.
Then for the parts you want to be in the slot, add the correct internal slot name in the windowsā "slotType" section.

I had a mod stolen on another game on one of these websites, it got 4x more on the bad site than it did on steam workshop
since you can upload links to modalnd, create your own modland account and just link to the repo
i have one for that and for telling off mod scammers

anyone know what Neilogical uses in the puck drop videos to drop the pucks? I have the chaos mod but I can't choose a specific prop to drop. I'm just curious cause I think it'd be fun to do with friends
what is that used for? like dropping a puck in ice hockey?
if yes you could just use a puck and pause it in the air i guess when spawning it in?

Hi guys, so i know there is a big ask for firetruck mods for Beam, there is currently only one that is a little realistic
I am a 3d modeler but i have 0 knowledge of BeamNG modding, so if anyone wants to use my models to create some new firetruck mods, hmu

Lua isn't necessary for modding beam, you can do a lot with just jbeam, models and textures
if you have experience with blender you can now do some of the jbeam even in there

otherwise looking at vanilla jbeam and copying and modifying stuff is your best friend
you need to export them as a collada (.dae) and write the mesh names in jbeam under flexbodies

you shouldn't give up too quick, but it takes a time to learn. Dont expect instant results. Take your time, maybe spend a bit on learning parts of modding bit by bit, whenever you have time. you got that!
It took me over 3 months to get the hang of just doing simple tail-light mods, Everyone learns at their own pace no one is rushing you so always keep that in mind, Just take it slow and don't give up, I truly feel like anyone could do some basic modding for beamng, Just takes a little bit, Even Im still learning things over a year into modding and I even make mistakes/make things that look awful or just dont work sometimes, Thats the part of modding that I find is beautiful, Every single mod is unique in its own way š¤ dont give up
I won't lie modding for beam is difficult in very many different aspects but when you get things to work, It makes all the effort that much more special to you, I hope you do try and make some mods and anyone else thats reading the chat that hasn't tried that wants to should really go ahead and do it, Once you start to understand it all its so much fun and theres endless things you can make and modify etc..
Funny enough I have some sennheiser mics designed for cae audio! I'm just not sure on the coding side how to get that to work

jbeam is absolutely horrendous to work with, you're doing amazing work with 3d modeling but the jbeam side is just absolutely horrific
can't complain that it allows for amazing granularity in simulation but god could they have opted to not specify thousands of lines of node and beam info, within the main component files

you cant really take the black and white data from a specular map (1 channel) and then divide it into 2 black and white maps (2 channels)

the brands we have (Ibishu and Hirochi specifcally) fit in multiple IRL brands.
Like for example Ibishu is a mix of Nissan, Honda and sometimes Mazda too
and besides you can always mix them up freely

But that came from My Summer Car
(including some lore cars)

Suzuki : Hopper, Pigeon (kinda, mostly reliant accept japanese)
Not sure: Pessima Mk2 (Has mazda and honda vibes)

if its not from the forums, then it would mean its a low quality mod using materials from the vanilla vehicles but one, likely the 200bx got updated and broke the materials

honestly i didnt expect even half this good but im toying with the idea of ai -> 3d model for a primitive 3d 'reference model' to use in conjunction with reference photographs

to be completely honest making a vehicle is an EXTREMELY tall order, ive been doing game dev/scripting for quite a bit and found myself super overwhelmed making jbeams from scratch. personally i think the easiest thing to learn is to create a world object like a ramp, loop, tree, or some other static object. it'll help you learn to use blender and doesn't require looking at any code
initially i thought to use a template car/example car to help me make a vehicle but ive found it WAY easier to copy a vanilla car as someone else here had recommended and then make my modifications from there because all the parts are there you just end up adjusting them to your liking. if you think about it theres a vehicle in vanilla beamng for most all kinds of drivetrain setups
if you want to start with vehicles i recommend that or i recommend even moreso you make a mod part like a bumper or different engine internals to get an idea for how it works. but as i said at the beginning i do think making a prop that doesnt move is FAR easier if you have never had coding experience because its all through a graphical interface with keyboard and mouse, you dont have to look at code
ive had some experience coding (like an hr only) and ive tooken a class on 3d objects with blender so i get how to do somethings but inderstand what you mean about starting small
i think i might start with the very basics like even just a cube but im a naturally fast lear ner with things so hopefully this wont be too difficult

and another piece of advice, lua is scripting/coding but jbeam files are a modified version of JSON, and JSON happens to be an easy to read way to organize information in a way that the computer can also read it too. if you're unfamiliar with it i recommend you look up how JSON works and it'll give you an idea of the syntax/phrasing requirements of Jbeam. jbeam is mostly JSON style data and the huge blocks of text tend to be nodes and beams, because for whatever reason every single vertex and beam that is physically simulated (the car you see while driving around is kind of like a skin put over a skeleton, and the skeleton is like the hitbox/jbeams of the car and usually are fewer polygons) and personally it was overwhelming to look at, but as i said because its very similar to JSON, the rest of the jbeam file should be readable for you to learn to make sense of
in essence you wouldnt necessarily need to code a script to make a new vehicle but you would need to be familiar with JSON and blender, for adjusting the physics version/beam model of the car, and then the 'skin' the physics version wears

That's always a good starting point tbh. I can't say I went about starting in a sane manner but, really it boils down to cross referencing things in the beginning and gaining to ability to understand what you are reading and writing. I personally think engine's is where everyone should start if they are planning on mainly doing car related things. That being said it really depends on what you forsee yourself doing. Nothing wrong with learning it all tho.

I acceled in my comp sci class compared to other people. I just need to set the time aside to start working on it.
The hardest part at least on my end was learning blender or what ever 3d software you choose. As even the basics can take a while to get imprinted in your brain. I'm 4 months in learning blender and I mean eat sleep and dreaming it and still find little hang ups that cause issues.
That's the thing that concerns me most is Blender. Only 3d modeling program I have used before is TinkerCAD.
I've also been meaning to learn another 3d modeling CAD software as well for 3d print projects I want to do
Completely understandable 3d model is a giant pool of things to learn not even just modeling but, shader nodes, uv, baking, etc. It's a giant amount of things to learn and while you don't nessecarily need all of it for beamng mods. It's overwhelming at times.
Luckily there are hundreds of thousands of hours of tutorials for anything you could think of. I'd recommend starting with the classic donut tutorial. š©

yeah its certainly a huge undertaking and not anything i expect to have finished soon, good to know that workflow - ive spent a good time playing with the individual steps across different projects but wanted to know the stages to chain it all together to a single high quality project
expect any of your expected time to complete to be like 10 times higher
its definitely a completely new world from designing assets for games where i can rely on rigid body collision or animated armatures

id say a full car generally goes up to 100k
the vanilla car is definitely a good place to start as far as that goes, some models look and perform just awful because the poly count is way too high
i was pretty surprised how far fewer vertices/edges are what physically get simulated, the cars are really just a fancy overlay

A more full answer for you:
Modland has zero quality control on what is uploaded. At best, this means that poor quality mods get uploaded, at worst, viruses and other malicious content can be uploaded with no resistance.
You can get good mods from modland, but generally they're either leaked paid mods, or re-uploads of stuff from the forums. As a general rule, look at the filetype of the download, if its a zip file with normal game folder structure in it, then you're generally safe, anything else approach with caution. If its a .exe, .bat, .dll or other such file, avoid like the plague.

Get some ideas for chassis layout
Build a basic backbone
Add in a basic engine
Add basic suspension and wheels
Build body shape
Cut body shape
Turn into panels with points to mount to chassis
Add features (lights, grilles, etc)
Add doors and moving body parts
Add interior
UV unwrap parts
Make texture files
Make normal maps
Make materials
Tidy up polies
Add details to body
Remove engine and build my own
Remove suspension and build my own
Then comes the Jbeam fun which mostly involves maths and the removal of hair from your scalp.

You can change the brake strength in the tuning menu
If you want to do it on the jbeam, thereās also a brake strength set in the brake jbeam.
But remember that this setting will affect brake balance, so change it and then make sure your brake balance isnāt bad

those little curves up by the c pillar need to be moved lower and made a bit wider now that i look at it from this angle
its got kinda this also dodge charger kind of profile going on about it
im thinking ill end up redoing the top bumper its quite off, and curve the lower one more to the body - the shapes there but it looks more like the body has a little flare and then there just the small fiberglass bumper at the bottom
