What do you think? This road will be approx. 7km long. It will be narrow with lanes narrower than 3 metres and it will be themed on the Austrian, Swiss, Italian, and French Alps. The switchback part that is about halfway will be one lane wide. The heightmap and terrain textures were made in L3DT and the road texture was made in Blender and overlaid over the terrain texture in GIMP. It will start as non-PBR but will become PBR later on as it is a simple map. I haven't decided on a name, so could you give me some suggestions?
All of my other projects have been delayed for months because I have been very busy and have been focusing on more important thinks, but my other projects will be completed soon.

I don’t know about drag tires, there is a one that you can customize the grip, and there are some alder dragger drag tires at the very bottom i don’t think those are modded but they have a good amount of grip

modelling is the easy bit tbh, jbeam is the hardest step in beam modding
how so? its just.. creating vertices and making them follow the car a bit here and there...
not the physical part but the jbeam file
i’m not sure you’re understanding. jbeam is the proprietary system that beamng uses to simulate cars, it essentially creates a really low poly mesh around the car that the environment uses to essentially tell where each part of the car is and how they all connect together.
however these use mathematical values to calculate weight, strength, rebound and whatnot and getting those wrong can cause any number of problems. You also need to construct supporting structures, special beams for things such as hinges and latches, plus the godforsaken trigger system

and they didnt get the changes done until earlier today, which means it's probably gonna wait till monday before it gets approved

Clearly not modded well enough if you're getting errors like that, try another mod. And be sure to only use mods from the BeamNG website, don't use modland or any others like that.

@quasi lodge do you know of any mod conflicts that would affect your plate mod? the first picture is with it activated, for whatever reason the US plate option goes away. so far i've only spotted this happening on the RUSH, but i haven't checked any other vehicles yet. just narrowed down that having your mod activated shows the issue

so the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo has been under revision, and here is it's state right now.
I decided to find a new model since the old one did not look as good as this one.
so because it is based on Trix's Chiron mod, it has the JBeam it uses. so some of the JBeam I am moving around so the car works as intended.

I’ve watched a million YouTube videos 🤯 I’ve got the mod’s download & they are showing in the MOD folder of the game but the MODS aren’t showing up as available vehicles. PLEASE HELP!

world of mods is a bad place to get mods , they aren’t verified to be safe , the beamng forums and ingame repo are better places to get them , as for the mods not working im unsure

depending on who releases the mod yes , some may not but they are generally better quality
3rd party websites will basically only net you low quality vehicles (often with no interior views lmao), reuploads from safe sites or pirated content from mod developers. these uploads are not moderated and can contain viruses or harmful illegal content. stick to the official beamng forums (which contains some real life car mods) or the in game repo for lore friendly mods. there is a list of some higher quality stuff in the pins, but i think it is pretty outdated at this point. you can always ask for suggestions for what repo cars to download
i recently downloaded the beamMP server and started a server with my friends, i tried adding a custom map to play and it worked , at first at least.....
whoever leaves and tries to re-join can't join back and it says invalid ZIP file at (expected mod location)
I have tried:
- Making sure the file in roaming/beamMP/multiplayer , is the same in the server and in appdata/local/mods.
- Adjusting the location of the resource folder of the map mod.
it seems like we can never join the server with mods at all, anyone have any idea ?

The only official places to download mods are:
- The in-game repository (no real life cars)
- https://www.beamng.com/resources/ (no real life cars)
- https://www.beamng.com/categories/mods.23/
Unfortunately, the search feature on the official site is pretty bad.
If you're looking for a specific car, I'd recommend googling site:beamng.com and then whatever car you're looking for.
For example, searching site:beamng.com bmw m4 will show all results for the BMW M4 from the official site.
As for why the mods you downloaded aren't working;
World of Mods for some reason has their own way of installing mods.
Instead of dropping the .zip file in the mods folder, you have to unpack it in a different location, and open the .exe (installer) that can be found inside.
This will install the right files in the right location.
Again, this is not recommend (especially because .exe files could be used for malicious purposes), but if your son really wants mods from that site, this is how to install them.
Ask the BeamMP discord server, they can help with the issue.

Is it possible to actually change things about mod jbeams, like engine properties and stuff?

Odd placement, but that's probably because I'm more used to seeing batteries or reservoirs in those spots.
Yeah the battery is in the top left corner in that pic, Thats the usual intake placement for the covets but I just wanted to see if it looked good for where it was .
Yeah, I did see the battery at the back. TBF in some cars the lights are removed to place a cold air ram to the intake, so it's probably not as odd as I think, and I won't lie, most FWD cars I've owned have been Hondas and they are more or less laid out the same.
If you have lights in both sockets there, the flow to the intake will be lower there than it would be if it was closer to the exhaust manifold
It also would be pulling in more heat aswell, But to be fair this "design" Isn't good anyways, It would need to pull air from inside the fender area imo

This is QEII's old Jag, tbf it was the first to show up in a google search, it has a transverse mounted V6 but notice how the air intake has ducting that sits on top of the rad and breaths cold air from just behind the grille? I had one and noticed it myself. The MAF reads intake air temp of very nearly ambient temps unlike the MAF in my Type R Civic which out of the box was breathing off the exahust manifold and the intake temps were like 50 degC
I would do something like that only if I wasnt basing this engine off the Honda F22B 2.2L SOHC w/non-vtec head
The K&N conical I had on my BMW came with the same ducting so you could feed the air from in front of the rad

To make a mod you need three things. First is Jbeam, this contains all the collision, weight, parts, and configs of the mod. Second is the 3d model, this contains just the shape of the mod. Finally the materials file, this contains the textures and colours of the mod.
Jbeam is by far the most complex, at least I think so.

There are tutorials out there on how to take an Automation build and make it higher fidelity using Jbeam and Blender.
It's not coding in the programming sense, it's just data really. There's just a LOT of it

That's awesome. I often feel that real mechanical knowledge is missing from a lot of car models. I used to race MGs and Hondas and built all my own cars so probably have more knowledge than I really need. I'm a software dev, well, should be, for a living though.
Yeah I agree, Thats why I started modding too is because I got tired of using "engine swap" mods that barely have any detail and dont offer any real difference then just a model change, I like actually changing the exhaust notes and and changing the way the engine revs up etc.. Everything matters when you're designing an engine, But yeah thats really cool to hear I just try and teach myself as much as possible and work with that!

For the early Lotus 49, yes
The DFV started at 408hp, but was capable of nearly 600hp before it was retired. Not bad for 3.0l
Then you remember the f2004 with 3.0 V10 at its peak they were producing around 1000 bhp and the cars weighed 605 kg i think.

The turbo lag was so bad in the 98T that drivers would flat shift so that it stayed spooled up.

Do you mean like a road that's actually thousands of miles long? Or just one that travels through a number of different biomes and sceneries to feel like you're going state to state?
The first, no, and even if you could, even low res textures won't fix the fact that you'll need to map and then load into memory thousands of miles of road, it would melt any domestically available PC. The second, yes, and it would be easy enough.

I don't know about the Crew 2, I suspect it's bigger than the Crew map, and that was big enough. But in theory it's possible. I'd love to see an attempt made, you'd probably have to do the same as they did in the Crew and limit access to the roads so the scenery is essentially just an image as that'll reduce resource usage

That's the other thing, most PCs struggle loading a few hunred miles of roads all tightly bound up in cities and tracks... a straight road of thousands of miles will easily cause even the most resourceful of machines to spontaneously combust.

The reason most maps are square is because that's efficient, once you introduce 1 long straight road you start losing that. The original idea wouldn't just be hundreds of miles of road wrapped in a few square miles, but thousands of miles of map.
It's also not the geometry that's the struggle, but you'll need to map textures, even low res textures, to that road, to the scenery, to all of it. If you didn't have the scenery there's not really any reason to make it that. If you just want a highway simulator then a large circular road will work way better.

Yes, have any idea just how much road you're talking about though? Importing a shrunken map like ATS or The Crew would be far easier if you just want the sensation of going from region to region, if you want to just simulate driving on a highway then a large map with a highway circuit would be better and if you actually want to map in a specific road I'd say do it in stages and have spots to stop where you can load the next level. You're not going to drive the entire length in a single sitting anyway

space factor: the pigeon is a utility vehicle so comfort is minimal, the covet is made for private use so passenger comfort is more important, it should also be noted that the chassis design is not the same: the pigeon is closer to the D-Series in design to carry more cargo while the covet is more comfortable.

Did you make your heightmap as 16bit greyscale png? This is very important. Then you could try a small bit of Gaussian blur in paint program and then reimport heightmap to BeamNG.

If you want to know how bad this would drive you can play flight simulator and get some of the car mods. You can drive the whole world then but it looks really weird while driving.
