it is fairly difficult to split apart, yes
so cleared cache works but the rear bumper still got no texture
but to be honest i can live with the front one

most likely what has happened is the material name has changed on the rear bumper

IRL those take huge amounts of force to be split apart, most of the time it's actually just the gearbox that gets teared from the engine as those bolts are weaker than the ones holding the engine to the monocoque
I just can't be bothered to model a clutch, flywheel, and all that to make the transmission look pretty when it gets split so I'll just be splitting it in half from the engine instead lol
hence why it'll be pretty hard to split

I'm trying to make these go low like quite to the ground but not all the way. I increase the strength and it explodes. And anything below a -2 and the shock still explodes? Can someone help me figure out how to mod a shock please. I'm still a little new to modding but I'm trying to make a shock for a car go low.

@frozen tulip this is over 2 hours of rock work to make it vary. At this rate, my map will take years to complete. Moab was made in much less time, cutting necessary corners to release it, such as copy paste rocks.
im not telling him to place tiny rocks in specific placements
im asking him to place large rocks efficiently in places that fill the gap while also looking natural

Thank you! Even efficiently placing them like you say would take much more time than simply copy paste. I think it wouldve extended release for much longer. Thats always something that can be tweaked over time.

just a few different models of rocks of different sizes copy pasted would be perfect
like if you have a large strip of rock wall, you can place a large rock followed by a small rock and a medium rock just to make some variation in the rocks

we already have the car modeled, we just don't know how to put it in the beamNG
even just putting it in beam requires months in itself and the car model has to be specifically designed for BeamNG
that includes having modelled suspension, engine, drivetrain, chassis, interior, etc
there is no real tutorial and I can't exactly give advice for this, your best bet is to reverse-engineer vanilla vehicles, spend time learning, cross-reference with the BeamNG documentation and wiki (https://documentation.beamng.com/index.html), and take lots of time to learn how to do things properly if you really want to start making vehicles

tl;dr. You do not need to host the actual paid mod on your server. A dummy with the same name and file size will do it too. The player just needs to have his paid mods in the Resources folder of BeamMP. this checks if the user connecting has the mod downloaded already and then it allows them on the server
if not it downloads a spoof mod that will not share the mod with the users
so people that join your server need to have bought the mod beforehand

is there a simple guide to follow along when it comes to making your own custom car mod? I know how to use blender and I got a model of my car (Volkswagen T2a). I could rig it and all but I still would have to know how to do that properly for Beamng to recognize it
I'm not a car modder, but I would recommend dissecting a base game car to figure it out. or maybe adding a somewhat simple part to an existing car. I've heard its pretty complicated with no all-in-one tutorial.
beamng does not have a "rigging" system. Cars act as the sum of their parts using the Jbeam system
essentially every part of the car is physically modelled, has weight and stiffnes properties, can have links to other parts acting like bolts, etc (ofc this is an oversimplification for the sake of your understanding)

My advice start with engine jbeaming it's one of the easiest things you can do to get your feet wet when it comes to jbeam
All you need to do is grab a engine jbeam from a car change the name so it doesn't conflict and learn from that

Thanks for the info! I've been trying to decide how I want to do my map mod. I had a slow start since its my first and only mod, but i've put in hundreds of hours into it. I've been on the fence about making it paid or maybe just do a paid beta and release it for free when its finished in 30 years.

As a general advice I would say start off by making free mods so that people get to know you and your mods, then once you feel like you've reached a high enough quality level then you can start asking money for it

Alright, about a week ago I wrote a script that went through all the zip files in the BeamNG folder and recompressed them using 7zip to make them more compact... As it turns out, the original game's zip files full of compressed textures were completely uncompressed, and this reduced the game's file size from 44gb to 21.2gb.
...I didn't make any modifications to the game's code, I didn't change any settings or anything, but now my game actually loads faster since it doesn't have to pull as much data from disk. Can someone explain why tf the developers didn't compress the textures in the first place? is this a stability thing?
to clarify - the original game files were in .zip files, but they were not compressed - they were simply being stored.
considering that most mods already use normal (compressed) zips, and the game works fine with them, I don't see why the assets use this uncompressed method

Sounds like a problem with the vehicle texture, look for a materials.json in the vehicles folder

The problem is probably in the levels folder, specifically the folder containing car parts. Only the rusty cars are meant to be used since the others may cause slight issues if used

Im not 100% but I'm sure it's to do with the way the materials are handled, all the car parts have the default material names, couch/tv ect are mostly shared assets and rusty cars are low quality bits by me

I know this is many hours late, but that is likely intentional. Why? Decompressing is a CPU intensive task. So if each time you load a car or a map or a new sound or whatever, you have to decompress a full zip that will be S L O W. So instead you can just use a zip like a container
nope, I did full testing, and it actually loaded (marginally) faster, since less data has to be moved from disk to RAM.
tbh I'm using a 14 core i9 so slower CPUs might not have that advantage
it also took about 20 minutes to compress all that data, even when I was using all of those cores
besides, using Deflate on a modern CPU will yield around 4 megabytes per second per GHz per core - my CPU can decompress at ~600mb/s, which is still plenty fast
yes but do remember the average core count is 8 with an already cpu bound game
and it will be doing this decompression many, many times.
its probably faster in a normal high end machine but when already cpu loaded on an average machine I wouldnt be surprised if it was a bit slower

No, there is no such thing as converting a car from another game to BeamNG
Making vehicle mods takes months, sometimes years. It's not as easy as stealing the 3D model and magically importing it into BeamNG

well there is such thing as meshslaps, though these low quality mods end up being forgotten or clowned on due to the low effort done in creating the mod.
just putting a dodge viper 3d model on a covet jbeam isn't a quality mod, a quality mod takes a lot of work to even get the jbeam working right, and that's not including the designing and 3d modeling stages of making a mod.
at the end of the day the quality of a mod is usually proportional to the effort put into it and the skills of the creator, from what i've seen with your gavril scout and super4 you have the skills and time to make some of the best quality beamng mods around!

update: to fix tire issues caused by 0.20, barry has made cool thingy that should add but most if not all pre 0.20 tires: https://www.beamng.com/resources/legacy-tires-pack.13989/. other errors won't be addressed unless it's an issue on the game's side which can be fixed, but even then these aren't the priority for that

thats better practice than doing that
it teaches proper flow, topology, and how to deal with shading errors

if you ever want to make a mod you're going to have to learn how to find out stuff yourself because nobody will be able to guide you through every single step
as I keep saying it to every new modder : making a car mod takes months, sometimes years. You'd be better off starting with something smaller like a spoiler for an already existing vehicle or just parts

You should make a pinned message for people asking how to make mods with all of this info.
if you want to make a mod you're going to have to learn how to make 3D models as well and learn the basics of Blender. Otherwise with models you'd get off the internet you're going to lack the detailed underbody, engine, and drivetrain models which are critical for a beamng mod

Hello, im searching someone who is into Wheel Mods.
I got some good Wheel Models (Rotiform) which i wana get into BeamNG as a Wheel Pack.
What do they need:
- Textures
- Jbeam (wheels are generaly easy jbeams)
- maybe something else.. idk
- they should work with vanilla Rims & D-Troxx ones
- and maybe 1 or 2 different sizes (19x9 & 20x9 )
I will be giving 10-15 bucks for 6-8 wheels depends on the Work & Quality.
So if you are up to the task, @ me!
Average pay for 3D/texture artists is 35-45$ an hour, I doubt someone would be ready to texture 8 wheels and make different size and variations for 10 bucks.
Especially considering this would probably take ~8 hours to make if not more.

The maps are done so jankily. The maps materials are all over the place so hunting for one material is damn near impossible.
