Unfortunately you can only have dependent, independent or both. The problem is independent may not be possible. I have a solution in mind I’ll try tomorrow, but as of now it’s only image-space like the original shader was

I know it does. I have been working on a streetlights mod for west coast on and off for 5 months and I know the performance impact of having shadows enabled on the lights

that second one looks like when I had edited the official shader to massively increase the brightness

I mean you can increase the brightness normally in renderer components. It just falls apart and looks terrible because you can see how few samples it uses (they use a pretty bad method).

what is there to optimize? shadows are the majority of the performance hit and it is not a shadow resolution issue as far as I can tell

yeah I think I edited some other variables but I didn't notice any difference

also none of the blue lamps in city could have shadows anyway because point lights have broken shadow casting

Ive seen people optimize what the game lacks with their own knowledge of how-to’s and then implementing that logic into the game

point is I have experience dealing with like 800 lights in one map and about 600 of them being shadow casting

there isn't really much you can do as a level designer, apart from not using really big shadow resolutions (2048px and above really do harm performance for spotlights) and not overlapping many lights

but west coast placement of light models is not kind for overlap
