The minimap img is different for each map, depending what the dev was going for. Some are gta style hollowmaps, others are full colormaps.

In the terrain file, when making a map, there is a slot for the minimap, so yes, they are built in. And supposed to refferenced. But somethings broken for sure. Checked some clips on reddit. No ones got the image.
