okay so i've been wondering this for a little while now. If I am in a high gear, and I go half throttle, the engine load can still be at 100%. How does that work? Isn't 100% engine load wide open throttle?

Well, if your throttle valve is 100% open, then you have maximum output but if your engine has nothing connected to it, it can physically have no load, since the load is the power that is taken away or used. That means that if you would have the throttle valve 50% open but have anything using it f.e. on a Dyno then your load might also be 100%.

The engine doesn't need much air when at low rpm, half throttle is enough for the engine to be fully loaded

as you can see in this specific example you get full torque at 30% throttle and 2250rpm

if the rpm's climb higher, the 30% open throttlebody starts to choke the engine, and the load decreases
