We received a request from the United States for specific support in protection against "shaheds" in the Middle East region. I gave instructions to provide the necessary means and ensure the presence of Ukrainian specialists who can guarantee the required security. Ukraine helps partners who help ensure our security and protect the lives of our people. Glory to Ukraine!
I hope Trump was wearing a suit, asked nicely, and said thank you.
There looks to be a gate in the wall, in the 2022 picture directly left of the indicator pointing towards the wall.

This was the exercise https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Fleet_Review_2026
The International Fleet Review 2026 (IFR 2026) was an international maritime exercise hosted and conducted by the Indian Navy on behalf of the President of India in February 2026 to improve relations with other navies in the region. The IFR 2026, along with MILAN, is the largest maritime assembly hosted by India since its independence.
Open Source Munition Portal: Israel Air Force shared photos of aircraft armed with incendiary munitions
Photos released by the Israeli Air Force show an F-16 aircraft carrying two 2,000-pound-class air-delivered bombs fitted with Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kits. Whilst the bomb body is visually similar to a MK 84 general-purpose aerial bomb, the marking scheme is distinctly different. The combination of yellow and red bands most likely indicates both a high explosive and incendiary payload. This is consistent with the marking scheme applied to specialised U.S. munitions intended for use against chemical and biological weapons targets. The best known of these is the BLU-119/B CrashPAD ('Prompt Agent Defeat'), which uses a MK 84 bomb body and contains 170 lbs of PBX-109 and 420 lbs of white phosphorus. It is not clear if agent defeat weapons were ever exported to Israel, or if a local analogue was developed. Capabilities of this type often remain classified. (ARES)

Do you have a source for that?
According to information from an official in the Rutba district of Anbar province, US forces landed in several strategic locations early Wednesday and are now stationed in two separate positions within the district. The source said that when Iraqi border guard units attempted to approach the landing site, they were met with gunfire, leaving several border guards wounded and resulting in the burning of four Iraqi border guard vehicles.
The official said that when Iraqi forces approached the area to investigate, clashes occurred, leaving one Iraqi soldier dead and two others wounded.

Regarding the Iraq - Iran Border, the Kurds, and Iraq. Saw this article with some important context
The border between Iran and the Kurdistan Region stretches about 750 kilometers, out of the roughly 1,600-kilometer Iraqi-Iranian border. Since 2023, it has been controlled by Iraqi border guard forces following a security agreement between Baghdad and Tehran aimed at regulating the border between the two countries.
Under the agreement, the headquarters of Iranian Kurdish opposition parties were moved away from the border into camps inside the region after they were disarmed. However, this step has not protected the region in recent years from attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Quite interesting that some of the tanker relays out of Ben Gurion have started to transmit an ADSB signal as of today. Not all are, but we are seeing their refueling orbits for the first time. Since Mar 01, the orbits over the Northern reaches of the Persian Gulf would pop up briefly. Mode S was being used and tracking via multilateration was pretty spotty. As of the today, ADSB signals are popping up and tracking is visible following the Saudi/Iraqi border to the same PG orbits and also to orbits over Nassiriyah in Iraq. Why they would do this is beyond me.

That said, for anyone who dosen't have X/Twitter here is what their AI Translation says, and even gronk is having some difficulty here.

This was uploaded to Reddit's r/combatfootage sub before being removed by the moderators within minutes. A friend screengrabbed it for me. I cannot independently verify yet, but it's claimed that this is footage of a Kuwaiti F/A-18 splashing an American F-15. If anybody notices anything wrong with it, I'd love for the footage to be disproven, because it shows a visual range engagement, which I cannot explain logically.
Looks consistent with the spinning, burning F-15e footage everyone has seen.

We were the hosts.
I am told that as per protocol for this exercise ships cannot carry any ammunition. It was defenceless.
The Iranian naval personnel had paraded before
According to maritime law US Navy was obliged to save survivors from sunken Iranian vessel. They failed to do so. Sri Lankan coast guard saved survivors.
Does that standard apply in the same way to submarines?
Couldn't find anything regarding type of vessel. Only that it's not required in case if it poses serious danger to the rescuing vessel, crew or passengers.
My thought is that, given potential impracticalities of hosting survivors on a sub, whether or not said sub contacted Sri Lankan coast guard to fulfill their obligations to maritime law.
EDIT Ah yeah that article gets into it, good one.
Some questions worth considering when evaluating the post by the Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University and former Indian Foreign Secretary and former ambassador to Turkey, Egypt, France and Russia:
I am told that as per protocol for this exercise ships cannot carry any ammunition. It was defenceles
The phrase "I am told" is worth noting. This is secondhand information, not confirmed primary sourcing. Even if we accept that the MILAN protocol prohibited ammunition, that leaves two further questions unaddressed:
- whether the IRIS Dena actually complied
- and whether the vessel was resupplied during the seven-day transit between departing Visakhapatnam on February 25 and the sinking on March 4. Underway replenishment can transfer fuel, munitions, and stores at sea.
Underway replenishment allows vessels to receive supplies, including munitions, at sea. Warships are not required to broadcast AIS and routinely do not, so the transit record is unlikely to be recoverable through open source vessel tracking.
There is also a question about framing the vessel purely in terms of its weapons load. A Moudge-class frigate is a capable ISR platform. Its intelligence-gathering potential, including its radar and sensor suite, is arguably a more significant factor in an adversary's threat calculus than its munitions. Describing it simply as "defenceless" may understate what the US military would have been weighing.

Australian PM: Three Australian defense members were aboard the US attack submarine that sank an Iranian frigate this week - did not participate in the attack.
Albanese told Sky News the Australians were on board as part of training linked to the AUKUS defence pact between Australia, the U.S. and Britain, designed to help Australia acquire and build nuclear-powered submarines.
Source: Reuters (link)
Submariner here, yea there is no way we would expose ourselves to pick up survivors. Also, it was a fast attack sub, which has like zero room to host anyone (the crew was most likely already hot racking, at least in some of the beds)
Also not trying to speculate too much here, and granted I'm citing an opinion article from the Indian Express, but the sinking of the Dena does put India in a bind.
https://indianexpress.com/article/opinion/columns/us-submarine-strike-iran-warship-dena-sri-lanka-india-10565661/
https://archive.is/El0wU
Given that the Dena was sunk 40 nautical miles from Sri Lanka, the politico-diplomatic optics are embarrassing for India, to say the least. Egg on the face comes to mind.
The related military questions are also complex and discomforting. The Dena was sunk by a US naval nuclear-powered submarine. It is being claimed as the first such “kill” by an American “boat” since the end of World War II.
Delhi will be in a catch-22 situation over this issue, which raises two questions: One, was India unaware of such submarine activity in its proximate waters? If yes, this raises further questions on the competence index of India’s underwater domain awareness.
Two, if India was aware of such activity, was Delhi informed/apprised of the proposed US action when the Dena departed Visakhapatnam for Iranian waters? An affirmative answer to both these questions could lead to potentially discordant consequences for India, both in the domestic and regional context.
Additionally, regarding the question about India's underwater detection system; there is also some key historical context that unforatnly the authoer dosen't include. During the Indian-Pakistani War of 1971 the PNS Hangor obtained the first confirmed submarine kill post-WW2 against the INS Khukri. So being on the receiving end of the first submarine kill post WW2 and having the third/forth submarine kill occur in their "backyard" certainly fits the "egg on the face" moniker IMO.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PNS_Hangor_(S131)
As the first US submarine ‘kill’ since World War II occurs in India’s backyard, the IRIS Dena incident challenges India’s maritime sovereignty and regional primacy
PNS/M Hangor (S-131) (nicknamed: "Shark") is a Daphné-class diesel-electric submarine that served in the Pakistan Navy from 1969 until its decommissioning in 2006. It is the first submarine to sink a ship after World War II.
Hangor (S131) was the lead ship of her class, designed and constructed by France after a long and complicated negotiation...
That it has an ISR suite can be counted as a threat only if it is in proximity of friendly vessels that do carry munitions and thus can execute a strike, otherwise it doesn't affect the characterisation as "defenceless".
But the fact that the ship didnt carry any live weapons shouldnt matter since it is still a warship. There is no rule about being unfair in warfare.
There are plenty of rules about military necessity and utility though, and a vessel being unarmed matters for those.
There is for example no credible way to argue that the US sub was forced to attack a lone unarmed warship for its own safety.
A military vessel is a military vessel, you dont have to wait for it to load its weapons and get ready to fight.
Hi all! Remember that when we start discussing things that should be we are straying off the osint path... We can only see what did happen.

Take it with a grain of salt, as I thought it was a AI hallucination at first due to the way it was first reported by Bloomberg and then republished by the South China Morning Post. But it's been backed up by CBS News with more info from the Day 6 updates on the war.
Unfortunately the confusion on my part was due to the way the bloomberg article just name drops the submarine in one line without any further context.
But it's backed up by CBS News with actiual details
https://www.cbsnews.com/live-updates/us-iran-war-spreads-azerbaijan-israel-strikes-tehran-lebanon/
Edit; Just for refrence, the Bloomberg article just name dropped the submarine without any other context, hence why I thought it was an AI halicination:
The Iranian warship IRIS Dena was in the Indian Ocean when a Los Angeles-class US attack submarine fired an MK-48 torpedo, setting off a massive explosion that lifted the ship’s stern out of the water before sinking the vessel.
The US Defense Department highlighted the attack — releasing black-and-white video footage that showed the USS Charlotte’s strike — to draw attention to a key element of its campaign against Iran: eliminating the country’s navy to keep the country from impeding the flow of crude oil and natural gas in the region.
Iran’s foreign minister says the US ‘will come to bitterly regret’ the precedent set after a US sub sank its frigate off the coast of Sri Lanka.
This is pretty interesting. As far as I can tell, the Charlotte has been underway since December, they deployed right before Christmas from its home port at Pearl Harbor.

Can you ехр|аіп а little why that is interesting for this channel? How does it help us understand events?
4 of 5 of them are current Iran satellites and Malligyong is North Korea's baby. The risk of Kessler syndrome or an on orbit EMP detonation down to blinding and crippling Iran command and control.
And what is that risk based on?
just me
The two are separated around 200km in altitude.
And the 5min difference in period means that they wont stay together, they just happens to be at the same place every now and then.
There are thousands of satellites in orbit, and their paths cross relatively close to each other all of the time. This is really not worth noting
Do we know what's on board those four Iran sats?
Not without speculating. And you know we do not do that here.
Keep monitoring them and report back to us if any of those satellites fails.
"The US also has intelligence suggesting that China may be preparing to provide Iran with financial assistance, spare parts and missile components, three people familiar with the matter said, though Beijing has stayed out of the war up until now. China relies heavily on Iranian oil and has reportedly been pressuring Tehran to allow safe passage for vessels through the Strait of Hormuz."
https://edition.cnn.com/2026/03/06/politics/russia-aiding-iran-targeting
The major changes that would be of interest when it comes to satellites would be any major deviation from predicted course or if the sats were disabled completely

or maybe if Iranian satellites started approaching US or Israeli satellites?
again only if they werent going to already
satellites cross paths all the time
eg. there were recent media reports about Russian satellites closely following European ones, that I believe went beyond what was considered normal
There are no sign of these sats doing anything unusual. If they start to maneuver in order to change orbit it will be obvious.

- Is there visual confirmation that defines this installation as specifically IRGC Navy, as opposed to other IRGC affiliates? (including those like the Basij that might be more concerned with domestic policing)
- What was the role of this facility in the regional military apparatus?
- Is there any reason to doubt or confirm that the southwestern most cluster of buildings is, as labeled on Google Maps, the "Seyyed Al-Shohada Cultural Complex of the Revolutionary Guard"?
- What casualties were incurred in the compound from the multiple missile hits?
- In what sense was the central facility, labeled a in the compound a military facility.

Unconfirmed local accounts and circulating videos claim the plane went down following an explosion, with search
Some additional information is here: https://factnameh.com/fa/fact-checks/2026-03-05-iran-minab-school-bombing
My questions center on resolving the issue raised here (per auto-translation): "In the existing public images and satellite data, there is no obvious indication of the missile launch pad, ammunition depot, or the direct deployment of combat systems in the immediate vicinity of the school building. However, the absence of such indications in commercial images alone cannot be ruled out on the overall nature of military activity in the Seyyed al-Shohada complex, as many coastal missile units operate in camouflaged, underground or scattered structures.
From the perspective of the rights of armed conflict, it is important to have a military unit within the urban area, but the geographical proximity of a military target to a training building does not make that building a military target. The decisive criterion is “real and military use at the time of attack,” not administrative affiliation or spatial proximity."
However Factnameh repeats the claim that, per IranWire, Minab was the location of a missile brigade in 2019. But IranWire's other reporting on this locates the brigade in Minab County (which includes the coast), not specifically the city. See https://iranwire.com/en/features/65749-the-irgc-navy/

The report, completed about a week before the United States and Israel initiated the war on Feb. 28, outlined succession scenarios stemming from either a narrowly tailored campaign against Iran’s leaders or a broader assault against its leadership and government institutions, the people familiar with its findings said. In both cases, the intelligence concluded that Iran’s clerical and military establishment would respond to the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by following protocols designed to preserve continuity of power, these people said.
The prospect of Iran’s fragmented opposition taking control of the country was described as “unlikely,” said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a classified report.

Not sure. Not a weapons expert. If that is the case then my post is erroneous.
I took the report from BellumActaNews - probably should have corroborated with other sources whether it is indeed HIMARS. My apologies.
Post edited.
Bahrain is listed as a potential operator of HIMARS because a sale was approved in Aug 2025, not an operator of THAAD. I wasn't aware HIMARS could be configured to be an interceptor which is what this looks like, though.

While according to Lockeed, HIMARS fired ground-launched AMRAAM variant (the SLAMRAAM) back in 2009, the capability according to Wikipedia was never added. Araghchi says the US bombing of Qeshm sets a "precedent" for striking desalination plants.
The GCC is heavily dependent on desalination for addressing local water needs.
If that happened, how likely is it that media - whose aim is to sell papers or get clicks/views - would pass this up?
yeah I suspect it's at the very least old footage since to what i've seen the number of missiles and shaheds launched by iran has fallen off a cliff over the course of the past 8 days. I guess I should have more directly asked "what flavor of bullshit is this? I've not seen this footage before (mostly because I'm new to this) and would like to know so I can tell people who share this why it's unreliable"
but also I don't want to just straight assume it's fake

It has been reported to me that several American soldiers have been taken prisoner. But the Americans claim that they have been killed in action. Despite their futile efforts, the truth is not something they can hide for too long.
“The Iranian regime is doing everything it can to peddle lies and deceive. This is yet another clear example,” said US Navy Captain Tim Hawkins in response to Larijani’s post.
A spokesperson from US Central Command (CENTCOM) echoed Hawkins’s denial in a statement to Al Jazeera Arabic.

It would be a safe assumption that everything you're seeing on X/Twitter is fake. Not saying all content there is fake, but the volume you're sharing here suggests the algorithm is working against you.
i actually don't spend time on twitter, this is stuff other people I know share with me on various SM platforms
I have a pretty strict list of people I personally follow on bsky for this and they post slowly and I think are generally reliable
its okay to ask questions like this, we are stronger at verification as a group than on our own
and you did well to voice doubt, its the people who come in and present everything as fact
I am skeptical of any reporting on this war even from usually trusted sources
but it takes a lot of cooperation and corroboration to discern whats really happening
yeah that's why I ask, I'm just trying to do a bit more than passively engaging with content regardless if it fits my priors or not
just wanted to stop in and remind everyone of the verification method of taking a picture of the first frame and putting that in Google Image search to check dates 🙂 even the best sources can be fooled, and sometimes the worst sources are correct
this is the unfortunate truth of OSINT
unfortunate truth of just existing, imo!
you can follow how we did this last week starting here 🙂 #1473081625775706295 message
Ah I see, though testing that with the thing allegedly from lebanon I am unsure about, I get a result that I'm also not sure about as well
if you link me back to your post I'm happy to have a look for you
It is almost entirely twitter links dating to the past couple days but that isn't exculpatory in itself; there is one entry that google claims is from 2023 but the link to the post appears to be dead: #1473081625775706295 message
some entries are undated, one also seemingly dead link had a date in 2024 but that disappeared when I refreshed it
where are the entries from? Facebook?
Mostly twitter
that isn't exhaustive, but the fact there's one from 2023 susses me out
using Exact Matches gets me just today
Eliot talked about how sometimes images actually from today show up as earlier #1473081625775706295 message
That list was also an exact match, and you'll see that some are undated in my list and one has a 2023 date, but the link is just to a profile and not to the actual post
another one is from 2024 but has the same issue, all are from twitter. I do wonder if the watermarks have an effect, and if a recut of footage may be occurring
generally when the link is dead, meaning that the "2023" link doesn't take you to the actual image you're looking for but some other part of a profile, I think that's a good sign that what Eliot is talking about applies
in my google image results sometimes people are watermarking right across the middle, and it's still understanding that it's the same image, which is reassuring
as noted above the footage is two clips mashed together
I'm also seeing today for the second part
yeah same, so guess this is new, though what it shows as far as geolocation goes I have no idea
yeah I'm sorry but I don't have the time to geolocate 🙂
I'm complete ass at it

Excuse me, I have a question, please.
How is this relevant in regard to the current events and this particular topic on this server?
Is there any truth to the claim that Israel issued evacuation orders to the area around Fordrow?
I know we’ve been talking about polymarket betting with insiders, even in this thread #1473081625775706295 message. I’m happy to move it to #money, if this is purely about military movements now.
Here's what I could find.
"Israel has called on residents to evacuate the area near Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility, The New York Times reports
The warning applies to civilians living near the city of Qom, located about 16 km from Fordow."
iirc Nexta is one of those Lower confidence sources?
Nothing in NYT that I've seen on that note
Same. Yes. Nexta is low confidence, but I’d consider NYT high confidence.
NEXTA is regularly saying "[insert reputable news organization] reports [made up fact]"
the text is unreliable; israel claimed responsibility, and it looks more like a shallow pipe might've caught fire? but the video itself could be plausible. the trees resemble ones planted near the refinery in street view.

President Trump said Saturday aboard Air Force One that he had ruled out involving Kurdish forces in the war against Iran, telling reporters “we don’t want to make the war any more complex.” Two days ago, he said that he would be “all in” for the Kurds launching an offensive.

i don't see how anyone could identify the exact munition without photos of fragments. the evidence is strong that it was a precision munition, and part of a series of precision strikes on the nearby naval base.
So, there is about to be a huge problem with global food production. The Strait of Hormuz carries one-third of globally traded fertilizer.
Key fertilizer producers in the region have halted operations due to safety concerns and damage from drone strikes. #Iran has stopped production. With no strategic reserve for nitrogen fertilizer (unlike oil), the global market lacks buffers to absorb such a shock. This has led to a sharp spike in prices and a partial pause in fertilizer bidding across the U.S. and other major farming regions.
Farmers, including the U.S., Brazil, and India, are facing uncertainty over whether they can secure enough fertilizer for the spring planting season. Analysts warn this could trigger a "fertiliser shock" that ripples through global food supply chains, increasing prices for staples like bread, pasta, and meat. The crisis is also affecting vegetable oils and sugar refining.
Get your gardens going folks. There’s not much time.

Hi all from the meteorology world. I couldn't help but notice a huge fire in Kuwait showing up in Meteosat satellite imagery, been going on since overnight. It appeared in the fire composite during the 0150 UTC scan, 4:50 AM in Kuwait https://meteologix.com/kw/satellite/kuwait/fire-10m-superhd.html

Congress, however, has another tool, what has sometimes been called the ultimate war power: the power of the purse. The Trump administration reportedly intends to seek supplemental appropriations to fund the war on Iran—a conflict which cost an estimated $11 billion in just the first four days. In contrast to war powers legislation to block further hostilities that requires affirmative action by Congress, mere congressional inaction on appropriations by itself may serve as a restraint.
Should the Iran war continue, blocking or restricting appropriations presents a potential source of leverage for Congress to curtail further executive warmaking.
...
The power of the purse is one of the few mechanisms available to the minority in Congress (specifically in the Senate) who oppose further unnecessary and imprudent presidential warmaking to put real pressure on the executive.

The registration numbers visible in the screenshot help with verification of movements:

FR24, by itself, isn't useful for indicating motivation or purpose to an aircraft's movement.
and rule of thumb: random Twitter user should always be regarded as not reliable unless proven otherwise
He seems to toe the Iranian line, claiming things like 11 MQ-9 Reapers shot down.
I believe the account is correct that some tankers have retrograded back into Europe, but the "why" is going to be far more complicated. The aircraft could be pulling back for a variety of reasons, including to "tow" even more fighters in to the AOR. PSAB has hardened aircraft shelters for tactical fighters but not for tankers and bombers.
We do know that a number of them have left. We do not know why, and nevertheless its only a fraction of the tankers present.

damn that's a bummer
Oh yeah, I've seen that before on a lot of infrastructure gone wrong videos. Definitely electrical related, very likely substation/transformer as others have noted. Do we know if it corresponded with a civilian power outage?
I've seen that before as well. It's not always a psyop, sometimes people automate news reposting to their own followers. Sometimes it's [ethically dubious] folks who want to build a following via folks treating it like a news service too.
Disingenuous activity is actually "best" [sic] disguised within that environment anyway, so they don't always want it to be obvious bad actors doing reposting work.
There are, of course, the Chinese alternatives... 😏
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Iran is unlikely to resume negotiations with the US following recent hostilities, citing what he described as a 'bitter experience' with past talks
https://www.numbers-stations.com/various/v32-the-farsi-numbers-station/ It has been reported by a radio amateur: “The periodic dual tone beeps you are hearing is the PT override warning tone active on most new L3/Harris radios, it is automatically injected in the audio path for both RX and TX as a warning that you are operating in plain text while the radio preset is configured for cypher text. This means that V32 is using a Harris Falcon III or II HF radio and didn’t even bother to configure it correctly. So that’s an AN/PRC-160 or 150. Or the none CCI versions of either, that’s the RF-7800 or 5400. (continued from Discord, the same radio amateur: I originally assumed that V32 was controlled by the IRG, but, Iran shouldn't have any Harris equipment (sanctions and all that) I suppose they could have acquired one on the grey market (I've seen 160s for sale on Facebook FFS) but that would be a weird and deliberate choice given that they have natively built equipment)”
This is really bad
Does something like this matter when there are other satellite imaging services?
Yeah totally matters
We're an NGO with a limited budget
We don't have money to throw around on subscriptions to multiple services
I magine many, many other individuals and smaller orgs on limited budgets are in the same boat
Are there comparable alternatives available for an NGO to readily switch to? Or is it not that simple?
Gonna take a hunch and say thats more on the substation side IMO; as the weather weenie in me would say, that is one heck of a power flash.
It's not that there's no other companies out there
It's that they're expensive and we don't have unlimited money
This was the cheapest good one I guess?
Cancelling and switching to something else is not an opinion I guess?
Well that's the thing, Planet's been absolutely great otherwise and chances are other providers are going to do the same thing

New satellite navigation interference observed near the coast of Ras Al Khaimah
A new satellite navigation interference pattern was detected off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah starting at 15:00 UTC yesterday. Unlike the typical single-point clustering commonly associated with signal jamming, this interference creates the appearance of vessels moving in a straight line toward the Strait of Hormuz, even though the vessels are not actually following that trajectory.
Further analysis using #MarineTraffic playback confirms that this movement is artificial. Vessel tracks show clear inconsistencies when compared with simultaneous vessel movements and reported headings, indicating that the apparent transit is the result of navigation interference rather than real vessel activity.

Iran is using smaller crafts that can carry 2 to 3 mines each. While Iran’s mine stock isn’t publicly known, estimates over the years have ranged from roughly 2,000 to 6,000 naval mines of Iranian, Chinese and Russian-made variants, @JimLaPorta reports
Presumably a lot of these will be blast/overpressure/TBI cases, from troops sheltering in bunkers with warheads hitting close. Just like Trump's last term when militias shelled that base in Iraq and there were several dozen injuries.

WASHINGTON (AP) — About 140 US troops have been wounded in the Iran war, including 8 severely and 108 who returned to duty, Pentagon says.
Are CENTCOM gonna do a ‘fact check’ post for this? 🤔
that probably forecloses on any hope of china being able to hall pass their way through the channel or really anyone if the iranian offer last night of diplomatic explusion for access was real (this move, if accurate, suggests not)
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/03/09/kharg-island-iran-war-oil-trump/
The article is likely trapped behind a paywall (I have a subscription), so I've summarised it. It'll be interesting to see if the US does put boots on the ground in Kharg Island. That seems like a middle ground that could topple the regime without a full invasion.
"The island concerned is a barren limestone outcrop 15 miles off Iran’s Persian Gulf coastline, less than half the size of Manhattan. But it is also home to the country’s main oil export terminal, where 94 per cent of the crude it sells abroad is loaded on supertankers, mostly bound for China.
Located some 300 miles west of the Strait, Kharg is simultaneously modern Iran’s biggest asset and its biggest liability. Its oil terminal was built with assistance from the American giant Amoco during the Shah’s rule in the late 1950s, when modern tankers proved too big to dock in the shallow waters off Iran’s southern coastline. Instead, crude was piped from the mainland to Kharg and loaded onto vessels from there. The island is home to a small town of a few thousand oil workers, but, as a remote strip of land far from Iran’s mainland, is inherently vulnerable to attack – its terminal was partly destroyed by Iraqi bombing during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War, but then rebuilt."

Trump truth social posted about mines.
Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important energy chokepoint that carries about one-fifth of all crude oil, according to two people familiar with US intelligence reporting on the issue.
The mining is not extensive yet, with a few dozen having been laid in recent days, the sources said. But Iran still retains upward of 80% to 90% of its small boats and mine layers, one of the sources said, so its forces could feasibly lay hundreds of mines in the waterway.

is it publicly known what kind of mines Iran has in possession ?
There doesn't seem to be much out there specifying which models, but they reportedly have a variety.
"Iran continues to heighten its threat for mine warfare in the Persian Gulf, in terms of both mine stocks and mine-laying capabilities. Iran holds an array of Soviet, Western, and Iranian-made drifting and moored contact mines. U.S. experts estimate that the Iranian stockpile contains at least 2,000 of these mines. Iran also maintains a substantial collection of newer, more advanced bottom and rising mines acquired from the Russians, Chinese, and North Koreans. Finally, reports suggest that Iran purchased the EM-52 rocket-propelled, rising mine from China. "
Flexible, relatively cheap and historically effective, military forces deploy naval mines at various water depths, in both defensive and offensive situations. Defensively, military forces deploy mines to discourage undesired entrance into territorial waters. Offensively, mines are deployed to hobble a target's naval assets or channel an enemy th...
One problem is that both the UK and US have mostly withdrawn much of their minehunting assets from the region.
"Even with modern autonomous minehunting systems, clearing a dense minefield could take weeks or months and could probably only be done after a ceasefire. During that time, insurers would almost certainly refuse to cover shipping, meaning the economic effects of mining could persist long after deployment. Both the USN and RN recently removed their mine countermeasures vessels from Bahrain. The USN has several Littoral Combat Ships with MCM modules in the region, although they are outside the Gulf. The RN has some air-deployable nascent autonomous minehunting capability, but this is not yet fully mature and deployment to the Gulf would be a very steep learning curve."

The Strait of Hormuz is the most critical maritime chokepoint in the global energy system. The Middle East has seen Iran implement its long-feared plan to disrupt shipping through the Strait and the Gulf beyond, triggering effects that will cascade across international energy markets and even food supply. This from @marinetraffic is interesting. Basically, there's good evidence that someone is doing the opposite of a ghost fleet: spoofing fake ship signals to make it *look like* there's Strait of Hormuz crossings happening when there aren't.
New satellite navigation interference observed near the coast of Ras Al Khaimah
︀︀
︀︀A new satellite navigation interference pattern was detected off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah starting at 15:00 UTC yesterday. Unlike the typical single-point clustering commonly associated with signal jamming, this interference creates the appearance of vessels moving in a straight line toward the Strait of Hormuz, even though the vessels are not actually following that trajectory.
︀︀
︀︀Further analysis using #MarineTraffic playback confirms that this movement is artificial. Vessel tracks show clear inconsistencies when compared with simultaneous vessel movements and reported headings, indicating that the apparent transit is the result of navigation interference rather than real vessel activity.
︀︀
︀︀From a market monitoring perspective, @Kpler analysts have implemented enhanced monitoring protocols to identify and exclude erroneous insights generated by spoofed tracks, su…
I would invite caution to assume there is intentionality in giving the impression that ships are flowing when it could be an artifact from the GPS spoofing that there is in the area because of, well, being a war zone.
Yes, there is clear evidence that the spoofing is making it look like ships crossing the strait, but none to my knowledge (happy to be corrected) that it's being done in an intentional way to reflect it
It would be too surprising if such apparent movement [with such vectors for both sides of the strait] has been an unintended side effect of jamming/spoofing, and not an intentional effect.
Spoofed AIS signals could also be used to draw out Iranian strike assets

Bryant believes it is possible that the satellite image the U.S. military used was out of date. As seen in Google Earth, today, there is a clear wall that separates the school from the base. But back in 2013, there was no wall. The wall was built by 2016.
Master Sgt. Wes Bryant (Ret.):
Potentially using targeting data that is a decade-plus-old and not updating it and not going in and verifying what's happening on the ground right now, is this still actually a military target, are there possibly civilians in it, even if it is, and how are we going to address that, none of that happened.
....
Nick Schifrin:But a U.S. official says that Hegseth and DOGE cuts reduced the Pentagon's office dedicated to preventing civilian casualties by 90 percent and by two-thirds at the military's Middle East Regional Command.
What's the impact of those cuts?
Master Sgt. Wes Bryant (Ret.):
You have a drop in -- a direct reduction in capability to characterize a civilian environment in order to properly characterize a target and conduct an assessment on risk to civilians at that target or in the general area. And then you have a de-emphasis on the prioritization of protection of civilians.
And that's going to have a filter-down effect. That's going to filter down to exactly how you end up executing operations.

Two other senior Trump administration officials made assertions about the recent negotiations with Iran that suggested they did not have the expertise or experience to understand the Iranian proposal, or why Iran would not have accepted elements of the US proposal. They therefore claimed Iran was not serious about the negotiations, which seems to be a misunderstanding.
The Trump administration officials, for instance, described an Iranian refusal to accept an offer of free nuclear fuel from the United States for their civil nuclear program as a “big tell” that Iran had nefarious motives, when Iran has historical reasons to not trust western supplies as reliable.
Sen. Chris Murphy:
I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.
I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.
1/ Here's what I can share:
2/ Maybe the lead is that the war goals DO NOT involve destroying Iran's nuclear weapons program. This is, uh...surprising...since Trump says over and over this is a key goal.
But then of course we already know air strikes can't wipe out their nuclear material.
3/ Second, they confirmed "regime change" is also NOT on the list. So, they are going to spend hundreds of billions of your taxpayer dollars, get a whole bunch of Americans killed, and a hardline regime - probably a MORE anti-American hardline regime - will still be in charge.
4/ Ok, so what ARE the goals? It seems, primarily, destroying lots of missiles and boats and drone factories.
But the question that stumped them: what happens when you stop bombing and they restart production?
They hinted at more bombing. Which is, of course, endless war.
5/ And on the Strait of Hormuz, they had NO PLAN. I can't go into more detail about how Iran gums up the Strait, but suffice it say, right now, they don't know how to get it safely back open.
Which is unforgiveable, because this part of the disaster was 100% foreseeable.

First, our warfighters are leveraging a variety of advanced AI tools. These systems help us sift through vast amounts of data in seconds, so our leaders can cut through the noise and make smarter decisions faster than the enemy can react.
Humans will always make final decisions on what to shoot and what not to shoot and when to shoot — but advanced AI tools can turn processes that used to take hours and sometimes even days into seconds. I continue to be impressed with all the branches of the U.S. military."

Crazy footage of Iran's explosive boat use against the oil tanker that burned up yesterday
WATCH: The moment the U.S.-linked oil tanker Safesea Vishnu was hit in the northern Persian Gulf after allegedly ignoring warnings from Iran’s IRGC Navy.
One Indian crew member was killed.
Insane if they drove a boat that close to the tanker.
Where those hit or did they collide with mines?
I don't know but just above Littered Sands shared a video above of one of the vessels the moment it ignites. If there were warnings as claimed (Clash Report is an aggregator, so I don't know if this is claimed by the original sources) it's likely they were directly struck, but I personally don't know
"Bahrain Imports Anti-Riot Troops as Protests Erupt Over U.S. War With Iran" via Aída Chávez at
(She's a foreign policy and US Congress reporter, previously at The Intercept and The Nation's DC bureau)
Bahrain, a key American ally that hosts one of the most important U.S. naval bases in the Middle East, is so concerned about domestic unrest that it is bringing in foreign security forces as protests erupt against the kingdom’s role as a launchpad for Washington’s expanding war with Iran.
Bahrain has brought in anti-riot troops from Jordan to help suppress protests, national security sources tell me, confirming rumors that began circulating last week. The deployment marks the first time since the Arab Spring that Bahrain has called in foreign forces to quell domestic unrest – a sign of how seriously the monarchy is taking the threat of protests from the country’s Shia-majority population.

"Satellite imagery from Vantor shows that a site long linked to Iran’s nuclear program has been struck."
NPR and Iran's Press Tv report that Iran's new supreme leader has released a statement indicating continued resistance and calls for national unity:
In his statement, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized that Iran will not hesitate to seek retribution for the blood of martyrs, reaffirming the country’s unwavering resolve in the face of external threats.
He also called for an effective presence in key national activities, particularly highlighting the significance of participating in the Quds Day march, stressing that all citizens must contribute to such pivotal moments to show strength and unity.
The statement said the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for a fifth of the world's oil supply, should remain closed. It said Iran continues to believe in friendship with its neighbors but will continue targeting U.S. bases in the region.

"British troops came under attack from an Iranian drone swarm at a military base in Iraq, defence chiefs have revealed.
UK air-defence troops destroyed two drones, while other devices eluded defences and struck the air base at Erbil, northern Iraq, on Wednesday night.
It is the third such attack against British forces, following a drone strike on RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus and a missile landing 400m from UK personnel in Iraq.
John Healey, the Defence Secretary, said Russia was aiding Tehran in refining the regime’s drone tactics, which defence chiefs warned were making the air assaults “more problematic” to deal with.
Mr Healey said: “No one will be surprised to believe that Putin’s hidden hand is behind some of the Iranian tactics and potentially some of their capabilities as well.”
Defence chiefs confirmed on Thursday that an unknown number of drones, believed to have been fired from Tehran, “did impact the base” at Erbil.
No British soldiers were injured during the onslaught. American troops at the base were said to have suffered minor injuries, UK officials confirmed on Thursday."

EXCL @GBNEWS: Several US Special Operations Forces planes departed from RAF Mildenhall yesterday.

︀︀The group of seven MC-130Js flew out of the Suffolk airbase yesterday towards a destination that we are choosing not to reveal to protect operational and personal security.
︀︀
︀︀Four of the MC-130Js that took off from the airbase featured the Silent Knight radar modification.
︀︀
︀︀The radar provides terrain-following and terrain avoidance capabilities, allowing the tactical planes to conduct precise and delicate low-level flying missions.

To be clear, any speculation involving armed Kurdish forces seems to be highly suspect given what Kurdish groups have stated up to this point.
Yes, I assume it relates to the 'we are choosing' which is probably that they don't know so the later part is speculation.
Given that the US just pulled the plug on the Kurds in Syria its sounds more like wishful thinking that they will be involved in Iran in any major way.
Or its just moving to a different base and they trying to make it more than it is.

Pretty certain 135's dont' have ejection seats either.
None of our tankers do, nor ever have. The -135 is the only one that is technically able to be bailed out of, but that's through a chute in the cockpit that was designed for the Nuke Alert era for when the tanker has offloaded the last of its gas to its assigned bomber.

Granted hard to tell from the compression, but look at the tail, here is the same aircraft in daylight for context
Good chunk of the vertical stabilizer appears to be missing
You can't tell if the top of it is just dark enough that it's run out of colours to display it. If it was painted black it would be completely impossible to tell. There's even a straight line that's slightly darker at the spot in the lit image where a pointy big is. Could be an artifact, could be the top of the fin.
Do you have an example of a tail fin painted black like you're suggesting?
FYI, the reference copy is the same plane that squawked 7700 earlier, as reported.
If that's the exact same plane as earlier then fair enough. But there's also some other weird artefacting in the picture like here, it looks like the plane is slightly see through. It also looks weirdly clean if it was a break. Just saying I don't think its clear enough to say for sure the top is missing.
Not sure what we're supposed to be seeing there?
You can see the lines of the walls through the plane
Plus the source being "Facebook pic"
That, my friend, is a reflection in the glass between the camera and the plane.
Oh really 😂
Yeah i think that's what Genghis is saying, you can't prove that the tail bit is missing from the provided picture because there's too much interfering stuff like that to get in the way

Another reality is that the insurance safety net doesn’t address the core reason ships aren’t sailing, according to shipowners and insurance brokers. “It’s more about the safety of the crews rather than taking on insurance for damages,” said Jerry Kalogiratos, Chief Executive of Capital Clean Energy Carriers, which runs more than 20 LNG carriers. Insurance for ships in the region is readily available, with offers being made but not taken up, according to brokers.

Assuming both planes are in level flight, is there anything that would swipe from the top like that besides the deployed refueling probe? Two tankers colliding in mid-air with damage like that makes me think that an incident during tanker-to-tanker fueling is the cause.
i mean, that isnt the point. im sure he has a coherrent analysis of the situation but the podcast he’s a guest on regularly platforms far right conspiracy theorists and is framing his claims in an uncritical way
that wasnt meant to be a “takedown” of what he was saying, im providing context about the source
If ever you'd like to discuss this matter, feel free to DM me so we can keep this thread free of speculation.
mate, you’re the one sharing the speculative commentary. thus my response, providing context about the source you shared. if the fact that im engaging you in a respectful and clear way isnt evident, that really isnt my problem. try not to take things this personally
expert opinion about the future of the conflict isn’t factual reporting on the state of it. which this thread is meant to discuss
The KC-135R cannot receive fuel inflight.
Absent a leak from the investigation or an independent one performed by a future administration; we are unlikely to know what happened. There isn't an equivalent to NTSB for military craft, at least in the sense of one that releases crash reports.
The seems to fly in pairs with 1000ft vertical distance, its not unreasonable that they came too close and one hit the other from below.
It's a solid amount of negligence necessary for that to happen, but yeah, not impossible, especially given the state of points at everything
It wouldnt be the first time a mid air collision happens due to human error.
and it wouldn’t be the last
Air to air refueling is extremely dangerous. Tankers were probably refueling one another.
As Palt pointed out (and you can come to this just from a logical standpoint) tankers can't refuel mid-air.
(When your entire fuselage is a tank of jet fuel, refueling mid-air seems a bit silly)
oh so me DMing you to ask if you’re aware that the podcast you shared platforms the great replacement theory leads to you blocking me. you’re clearly a very normal and stable person.
since you’re not seeing this and others can. i hope that’s clear to everyone else. so much for grandstanding about engaging in rational discussion
The -135RT can, but there are only eight of them and as far as we know none of these was a RT.
We can probably stop with this now.
sure. just making this as clear as possible to the rest of the thread. dw
It does have applications (see Black Buck).
apparently over the years we've lost 60 of the KC-135s to air accidents, So this happening is unfortunate but very much far from unprecedented
Based on Flightradar data etc the conclusion seems to be that the lost one is 62-3556
do we know what variant of KC-135 that is?
Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker (717-148) with registration 62-3556 airframe details and operator history including first flight and delivery dates, seat configurations, engines, fleet numbers and names

A Marine expeditionary unit with 2,200 Marines aboard three U.S. Navy amphibious ships is being ordered to the Middle East, according to two U.S. officials.
The 31st MEU is permanently deployed to Japan and operates in the INDO-PACOM region, but it is now being ordered to head to the Middle East.
Its deployment does not mean that the unit is going to be used as a ground force for use in Iran, but it offers land, amphibious and aviation assets that can be available to military commanders if needed.
This particular MEU also includes a squadron of F-35 fighter jets and a squadron of MV-22 tilt rotor Osprey aircraft.
Not especially relevant, given that neither aircraft is KC-135RT, but here is a photo from a refuelling operation.

Seeing 5,000 now
Approximately 5,000 additional Marines and sailors are deploying to the Middle East to support the war in Iran, according to three U.S. officials.
The service members make up an amphibious Ready Group and Marine Expeditionary Unit, known as an ARG/MEU. The group includes about 2,500 Marines and 2,500 sailors.
The sailors would the ship’s company. The Marines are the infantry and air wing components.
Noted. I think the word “additional” is throwing me off. Is it 2,500 additional marines to 2,200 mentioned earlier?
Qeshm island had 149k population size in 2016
The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that the USS Tripoli and its embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit are being redeployed to the Middle East
...
Still, other deployment activity the Washington Examiner is aware of suggests that additional elements of the far-larger 1st Marine Division-led 1st Marine Expeditionary Force may also be deployed to the Middle East. Taken together, these deployments indicate that the Pentagon is preparing for combat operations to seize Iran’s critical energy export terminal on Kharg Island.
"some troops are being deployed, therefore the target is kharg island" is a chain of logic that doesn't make sense to me
the administration has publicly refused to rule out seizing fissile material with ground troops, for example
5,000 marines is also not enough marines to do any of those things
Not sure. I read it as reporters conflating numbers but maybe that includes additional Marines not with the MEU?
I believe conventional wisdom is 20-25 soldiers per 1,000 citizens in an AOR, so 149k is not an impossible number
long read if you want to get into it- in any case we don't know where they are being deployed or for what, they could just as easily be evacuating diplomatic staff or reinforcing bases in the region
Pre or post Ukraine/drone war shift?
That was definitely pre, let me see if I can find a more modern source
US forces being in Qeshm will allow Iran to employ older / shorter range ballistic missile supplies, and possibly various MLRS / artillery systems against US forces.
[the article you've linked speaks of counterinsurgencies, with examples being French Algerian War and the "British Kenyan Emergency", and seems to be critical of using this 20-25 soldiers per 1k pop]
the logic chain is that kharg is part of the strait and does need to be secured to reopen it assuming a continually hostile iran, and 2k marines to try to secure fissile materials in god knows where, Iran is absolutely woefully insufficient to do so
It should be noted that I don't think 2k marines is enough to secure Kharg either but it is closer to reality than trying to traipse acrose Iran
Also they will pummel the Gulf states harder, US says missile launching capabilities are degraded but the Gulf states are suffering the fallout.
I’m watching for updates

Iran is considering allowing a limited number of oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, provided that the oil cargo is traded in Chinese yuan, a senior Iranian official tells CNN.
The potential move comes as the Islamic Republic is working on a new plan to manage the flow of oil tankers through the Strait, the source added.

Per WSJ, an Iranian strike at Prince Sultan airbase in Saudi Arabia has hit 5 US tanker planes. Reportedly the planes are damaged but not destroyed. No injured recorded
Are there any records/maps of Iranian military installations on Kharg Island?
Some thermal anomalies on Kharg Island over there: https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/map/#d:24hrs;l:fires_all,country-outline,firefly;@50.304,29.241,13.965z
If these anomalies are in fact due to strikes, they definitely look like oil infrastructure to me (at least the furthest south location does)
Nope sorry i forgot there was a few hours delay, those signals are more likely from the oil infrastructure activity. You get the same signals going back in time. In a few hours maybe.
Did they update the article? Now it says “nobody was killed in the strikes”, but doesn’t mention injuries.
You can see that same thermal anomalies constantly over the area through time. Here you can see even far more on, for instance, the 20th february, pre-war https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/map/#d:2026-02-20;l:fires_all,country-outline,firefly;@50.304,29.241,13.965z
Being fully honest, I don't know. I don't recall that sentence but it's very likely my brain just skimmed through that and interpreted it as "no injuries" 🙃

I do not know why, but flightradar24 displays tracks over Saudi Arabia for kc-135 tankers, but other tracking websites do not [I've checked a good number of them, including https://globe.adsbexchange.com/].

I filmed this 6 minute explainer on Kharg Island which was published today. 90% of Iran’s crude oil export goes through this oil terminal, about 15 miles off the coast of Iran. It’s also the economic lifeline to the IRGC (Iranian forces). Trump indicated today that he’s going after it. In my explainer I look at options on how the U.S. might do that.

That screenshot is indeed from ads-b exchange: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/
Not as user friendly as fr24, and fr24 has other sources of data other than ads-b.
But strictly for ads-b, it's much more powerful (:
(Also, Evergreen is a very well respected flight tracker among the open source research community, really recommend following her)
ADS-B Exchange - track aircraft live - aircraft flight history
It's just I've noticed that on https://globe.adsbexchange.com/ most of the civilian and military planes disappear in the region of interest, while on https://flightradar24.com many more planes are visible.
That made me question whether adsbexchange or their data provider censors data [I've seen a number of it's clones with data that looks exactly the same - including the lack of civilian planes in the region].
Yeah... fair, there are many issues with adsbexchange which is why some alternatives are being prepared.
I think in this particular case you can drop her a message with what settings she used to get that information out.
Anything else I think it's best to take it to #aviation rather than here, it gets out of scope
The last message from me on this - you can see that Evergreen's screenshot covers Israel, Palestine and Jordan - tracks for [some?] tankers there are visible on https://globe.adsbexchange.com/ without any special settings, but not to the east of Jordan.
Two explosive-laden, unmanned boats rammed the Safesea Vishnu tanker in an Iraqi seaport on Wednesday, sparking a fiery blast that engulfed the vessel's port side in flames and left crew only seconds to react, according to an early assessment conducted by the vessel's U.S. owner and operator.
It seems Kharg Island has been on Trumps mind a while. Here’s an excerpt from a 1988 interview. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jan/12/polly-toynbee-1988-interview-donald-trump
‘I’d be harsh on Iran. They’ve been beating us psychologically, making us look a bunch of fools. One bullet shot at one of our men or ships and I’d do a number on Kharg Island. I’d go in and take it. Iran can’t even beat Iraq, yet they push the United States around. It’d be good for the world to take them on.’
Not a real metric, but Trump brainworms never end well
No, never stated it was a metric. Just useful context and a historical reference that’s worth revisiting given current discussion around the island.
in 1988, it was likely on his mind because of news about the tanker war
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanker_war
Oh, agreed, and it's such an insane thing to start messing around with, on the other side of the Gulf.
This definitely explains why the convoy plan keeps coming up
sure, i'm mentioning it because a 1988 quote is distinct from the theory of "trump is a kharg island sicko"
Kharg has been an Israeli target in the current hostilities since at least June 2025, where it was also targeted by Israeli air strikes which damaged its oil and gas facilities. https://geopoliticalfutures.com//pdfs/iranian-oil-and-gas-infrastructure-geopoliticalfutures-com.pdf [PDF]

Last night, U.S. forces executed a large-scale precision strike on Kharg Island, Iran. The strike destroyed naval mine storage facilities, missile storage bunkers, and multiple other military sites. U.S. forces successfully struck more than 90 Iranian military targets on Kharg Island, while preserving the oil infrastructure.
What actual evidence/logic is there that a US missile hit the school in Minab rather than one from the IRGC misdirected from US jamming equipment? It would still technically be the US at fault if it was the latter.

Truth social post: https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116227904143399817
The logic is that footage show a second strike next to the school, and it shows the weapon used is a Tomahawk missile. US is the only part of this war using them.
https://bsky.app/profile/bellingcat.com/post/3mgku3c37uk2k
New video footage shows a US Tomahawk missile hitting an IRGC facility in Minab, Iran, on Feb 28, showing for the first time that the US struck the area. The footage also shows smoke already rising from the vicinity of the girls’ school, where 175 people were reportedly killed, including children.

Iran has fired very few cruise missiles. And those they have probably use inertial mid course guidance, and wouldn't spontaneously dive into the ground when jammed.
Trevor talked about it in the last stage talk, iranian cruise missiles that could ressemble the tomahawk have external motors, while the tomahawk have an integrated motor
Officers at U.S. Central Command created the target coordinates for the strike using outdated data provided by the Defense Intelligence Agency, people briefed on the investigation said.

can you share how you got to that observation?
Just curious if you were able to glean that from the war.gov link or there's additional information you found to support that.
My first deployment as a KC-10 boom operator was in 2006.

That is quite literally exactly what the piece they linked says.
So what actual evidence is there for the reports Netanyahu is dead.
None.
Ya -Ali doesn't.
I am not able to find any reputable news agency willing to report that Netanyahu is dead. Until that happens, the topic does not belong here.
Ya-Ali can have a motor consistent with your hypothesis.
Do you have any evidence you can share to disprove what multiple sources have independently confirmed was an American Tomahawk to make Ya-Ali relevant here?
The claim is not that the rocket in the footage hit the school. The pictured Tomahawk is hitting nearby, but confirms that the area is being hit with American munitions at the time the school was hit. All of this is hard evidence that the school's general vicinity was being attacked by American bombs. The alternative is really outright implausible at this point, to the point where investigators are leaning on that as a conclusion. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/iran-girls-school-us-military-investigation-b2933564.html
This puts to bed all the baseless claims and speculation surrounding Netanyahu being killed.
The US double-tapped the school, nobody is in doubt about this being a US strike. It's *possibly an AI target attack as well, since human analysts immediately confirmed that we'd known it was a school for years. The conversion was sometime around 2016 IIRC.
I am simply stating what was asked as it corroborates with the facts. I agree with you but this isn't a place to speculate.
Minor really, but can anyone make out what's written above the hanger at about 2.28?
Screenshot of the writing
I would not assume that it was "obviously" an AI target or that the US military did not know it was a school. Given the current US administration's approach to war and given Israel's use of the "AI targeting" alibi early in the Gaza war for what we know was a deliberate campaign to depeople northern Gaza, I think it is totally unwarranted to assume that this massacre can be attributed to AI or flawed intelligence. The days of automatically assuming that the US does not intentionally hit such targets should have ended when Trump said "When you get these terrorists, you have to take out their families. They care about their lives, don’t kid yourself. When they say they don’t care about their lives, you have to take out their families."
Do you have the link to that?
If you say something is obvious you have to show it with evidence.
All in all, this discussion is not going anywhere and the original poster is gone.

"humans could tell" isn't proof that it was AI targeted. humans make mistakes about things they should've known all the time.

The island is fine. The airstrip has a couple of craters in it and some other smaller military assets in the northern part of the island got struck but nothing of greater value; and definitely not the oil infrastructure, including its maritime resources.

Is this substantiated anywhere? If India and East Asian countries can get their oil through the Strait, then it won't be providing much leverage to Iran anymore.
It's possible they deliberately targeted civilians, but that is opposed to the goal of trying to get Iranian citizens to mobilize, making "regime change" yet again a false canard. However, the urgency that Hegseth showed on Friday strongarming Anthropic to lift restrictions before beginning the bombing campaign Saturday implies its central use in the very early stages of the campaign. Since those were not operational, they were most likely about tactics.

Which people are claiming that and which drones are we talking about? Because as far as I know all we have seen are russian components in some Shaheds, which makes sense since Geran-2 are the same but made in Russia.
Also note that Russia is unleashing plenty of drones into Ukraine every day and that will remain their priority, so any transfer of drones from Russia to Iran would be both very interesting and require strong evidence.

Indian foreign minister hails talks with Iran to open Strait of HormuzIndian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has hailed direct talks with Iran as the most effective way to restart shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, in an interview with the Financial Times.
“I am at the moment engaged in talking to them and my talking has yielded some results,” Jaishankar told the UK dialy, adding that talks are ongoing. "If it is yielding results for me, I would naturally continue to look at it.”
Two Indian-flagged liquefied petroleum gas carriers, Shivalik and Nanda Devi, carrying about 92,712 metric tons of LPG, crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday en route to India.
Jaishankar said it was an example of what diplomacy could bring.
He added that there was no "blanket arrangement" for Indian-flagged ships and that Iran had not received anything in exchange.

Well I also think that it's prudent to be skeptical of the state goals of this war (even before they changed them again, and again, and again), but it is not necessarily at odds with their goal of demoralizing and collapsing the IRGC. I lean closer to accident based on the context and facts, but I definitely leave room open for the idea that the US military, like the administration, is adopting concepts and morals from their Israeli ally.
This is a good discussion of the Administration's dismantling of a program designed to miminimise civilian harms.

NL are already cooperating with the French, so I think that should say enough. (Also, we don't answer work e-mails on the weekend. 😉)
The cashier screen shows the correct date too. Cafe Sataf seems to be running too. 7 AM to 4 PM
Rumors are circulating that the cashier screen shows 2024 but they are edited and fake.
Not direct news on the war, I know, but definitely pertinent when it comes to verifying sources.

so i believe their sister ship canberra is the only american ship left capable of minesweeping? i've heard some military analysts speculating that the LCS is too fragile and too valuable to be deployed while iran is still shooting, anyway.
I think you'll have a hard time finding someone willing to characterize an LCS as valuable. Vulnerable, sure.
in the monetary sense more than the tactical one
I believe there are still Avenger-class mine countermeasure ships in service, although three were decommissioned last year, so they are very much going the way of the dodo
i believe the last avengers are in japan, yes?
Yeah, according to Wikipedia, four Avengers left in service, all based in Japan
so not immediately helpful

I'd missed this. 'The U.S. military has lost two more MQ-9 Reaper drones during "Operation Epic Fury" in Iran, according to two U.S. officials. This brings the total to 11 drones lost so far.' https://t.co/RT7pauaupV
"Combined with losses in Iran, that means the Air Force may have lost as much as 10 percent of its Reaper fleet." https://t.co/gFRF1evipP
This is probably the most conventional of a conflict they've been deployed in with such numbers. I don't think they're really meant to fly against any sort of air defense, even a degraded one. I would not be surprised if that's an accurate assessment of the losses
making aware this is latest rumors around Mojtaba Khamenei's condition
https://www.timesofisrael.com/trump-said-briefed-on-us-intel-showing-ali-khamenei-thought-his-son-unfit-to-lead/
On Sunday, citing “a senior source close to the new Iranian leader,” Kuwait’s Al-Jarida news outlet reported that Khamenei had been smuggled out of Iran in a secretive Russian operation on Thursday to receive medical treatment in Moscow for injuries sustained in the same airstrikes that killed his father and wife on the first day of the ongoing US-Israeli offensive.

A thread of countries’ responses to Trump’s request for naval support in the Strait
https://www.threads.com/@meidastouch/post/DV9Ams8ka6Y?
World leaders to Trump after he begged them for help with the Strait of Hormuz: You started this mess. Now deal with it.
We've compiled a list of statements from world leaders in the aftermath of Trump's desperate posts and comments. Follow along with this thread to read them all. 🧵
Thanks for checking, I saw that and checked the locations for any activity near Jerusalem but nothing was close to Sataf. Also saw the fake postings.
Following up on this, I did a bit of analysis of the video (taken from the X account, with high resolution). At around second 00:57 there is this frame, where it is possible to see 15/03/2026 date. No idea what the rest says, however. There is also to say that mostl likely most men are security guards, especially the one outside the building, and the fact that it's completely foggy/opaque outside makes it impossible to figure out anything (might be a tv set for all we know)
Didn't see the message where you already posted the same screenshot, apologies 🙂 Good to know the Cafe has been identified!

Trump Says U.S. Doesn’t Need Any Country’s Help With Hormuz
The president also said numerous countries were “on the way” to help fully open the vital waterway, but didn't say which ones
President Trump said “numerous countries have told me they’re on the way” to help fully open the Strait of Hormuz, the vital waterway that Iran has effectively closed, though he also said the U.S. didn't need help.
The U.K. and the European Union said they were discussing options for reopening the strait, but Germany rejected Trump’s call for other countries to deploy warships to protect it.Trump also said the U.S. doesn’t know who is in charge of Iran, saying that no one knows if the country's new supreme leader is “dead or not” because “nobody’s seen him.” Trump also called Iran a “paper tiger” and said, “They don’t have too many missiles left.”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Trump’s planned meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping this month could be postponed so the president can stay in Washington to coordinate the war effort.
Is there a statement from Carney on Canada's position here? I haven't found one in domestic reporting beyond a joint statement with Macron on March 10th "Prime Minister Carney emphasised Canada’s support for efforts to safeguard international shipping and ensure freedom of navigation" https://www.pm.gc.ca/en/news/readouts/2026/03/10/prime-minister-carney-speaks-president-france-emmanuel-macron
President claims “no one expected” Iran to attack regional partners. 🙄
Not sure if this source should be trusted more than Canadian government sources but here's what I've got https://www.businesstoday.in/world/story/massive-setback-to-trump-canada-not-participating-in-us-israel-war-on-iran-says-mark-carney-520685-2026-03-16
thanks, I think that article is citing his statement in Parliament on March 11th. for anyone not following Cdn politics closely, Carney was criticized for coming out strongly supporting the Iran operation in the first 24 hours, and he's been trying to walk it back since. he also refused to rule out participation on march 4th https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-australia-joins-canada-led-critical-minerals-club-as-carney-calls-two/
I'm waiting for the evening Canadian podcasts to drop. I'll post if I hear anything new
"British Airways has cancelled all flights into Dubai until at least June, in a sign the carrier expects disruption in the Gulf to carry on for months.
The airline said on Monday it would not fly to Dubai, Amman, Bahrain or Tel Aviv until after May 31, and Doha in Qatar until the end of April. Flights to Abu Dhabi will be cancelled until later this year.
This is the longest major airline cancellation announced so far in the conflict, which has entered its third week. European rivals Air France and Lufthansa have announced cancellations until later this month."

Iran Geolocation Thread Morning 17th March 2026
︀︀
︀︀We now have over 1200 strikes geolocated on our map!
︀︀
︀︀Overall, we believe the pattern points to a prolonged coordinated campaign targeting command nodes, production facilities, and air/naval infrastructure across Iran and that there is at least another 2 weeks left of this war before they reconsider. Whether it will be enough, who knows - Iran is massively degraded already and yet very few economic targets have actually been hit - the strikes remain VERY polite on military and military / industrial targets. The US and Israel really need to improve their PR though, because they're constantly shooting themselves in the foot by releasing outdated, and truly rubbish strikes - such as the ones on the museum artillery pieces, when we can see there is genuinely much larger damage being done. What we would say to CENTCOM is this:

The United States has been informed by most of our NATO “Allies” that they don’t want to get involved with our Military Operation against the Terrorist Regime of Iran, in the Middle East, this, despite the fact that almost every Country strongly agreed with what we are doing, and that Iran cannot, in any way, shape, or form, be allowed to ...

*Carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is preparing to leave the Red Sea to undergo repairs at the U.S. Navy base on Crete after a fire last week required several hours of damage control efforts, USNI News has learned.
Ford will travel to Naval Support Activity Souda Bay for more than a week of pierside repairs, a senior U.S. official confirmed to USNI News on Tuesday. The official confirmed a report in a local Greek news outlet that said Ford is returning to Crete.*

Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. The current record is held by the USS Midway, which was deployed at sea for 332 days during the Vietnam War.
