How does this line up with existing analyses?
WASHINGTON (AP) — Two federal officers fired shots during the encounter that killed ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, a Customs and Border Protection official told Congress in a notice sent Tuesday.
Officers tried to take Pretti into custody and he resisted, leading to a struggle, according to a notification to Congress obtained by The Associated Press. During the struggle, a Border Patrol agent yelled, “He’s got a gun!” multiple times, the official said.
A Border Patrol officer and a CBP officer each fired Glock pistols, the notice said.
Investigators from CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility conducted the analysis based on a review of body-worn camera footage and agency documentation, the notice said. The law requires the agency to inform relevant congressional committees about deaths in CBP custody within 72 hours.

I'm not sure if he resisted or not. curling up into a ball is kind of reflexive when you are in pain and being assaulted. They did not say "he's got a gun" they said "gun gun gun". sounds like they are lying to congress.
...Devil's advocate, that's usually a norm (to say "Gun gun gun" to communicate seeing a gun- after disarming however, probably shouldn't still be saying it.)
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/310051062_'Gun_Gun_Gun'_An_Exploration_of_Law_Enforcement_Officers'_Decision-Making_and_Coping_Under_Stress_During_Actual_Events
That was actually why I thought i heard that phrase initially, as in prior officer-related shootings, you can hear just about the same cry.
You'll also hear this with phrases like "Taser taser taser", they usually repeat a couple times, mix of a "count down" and "clarity" methodology i believe, will have to attempt to find some written example- but i believe it's also why you'll hear pilots go "Mayday, Mayday, Mayday" three times
In the military they trained us to identify the weapon by its type and location on the individual, "gun, gun, gun" is the universal "this individual has a gun and is about to use it to cause harm to themself or others"
Similar with "Gas, Gas, Gas" in British Army as part of CBRN training to get your mask on asap

EXCLUSIVE:
On January 13th, The News Movement filmed a man who appears to be Alex Pretti interacting with federal immigration agents. Our footage was analyzed by the BBC, whose facial recognition technology confirmed his identity to a 97% degree of accuracy.
We were filming a documentary about ICE activity in Minneapolis when we received a tip...
That video isn’t useful for trying to sway a jury or a populous about what may or may not have happened on the event in question. We have the video of him helping a person being attacked by ice. This video would only be useful if you had a question of fact for a jury to determine.
Curious about this; I don't see BBC verifying it on their end yet?
And this is two miles southeast, in a completely different neighborhood than 26th & Nicollet (Central/Powderhorn vs. Whittier).
Many of the ICE spotting groups are segmented by those neighborhoods, so it's possible, just different.
It was reported Pretti had an interaction with fed agents a week or so prior to his death in which he suffered a broken rib. Believe he was not charged in connection with it. Is the above that interaction?
can get this from ~1:18 in the video:
This was shared somewhere else as well from this same source. I’m skeptical. It may prove true but with AI these days and the fact he is in same clothing I am withholding judgement
I'm still trying to reconcile if this is the same gun?
Well in this scene we see at least one photographer capturing his plight so hopefully they'll release the pictures they've taken at that time.

weirder things have shown up here, like the finger getting bitten off that turned out to be verified by legal charges.
Just withholding judgment on 'this is definitely Alex Pretti' until more sources can verify
There is something i cannot place my finger on about this video, but i am able to add that the intersection said in the video ("E 36th St & Park Ave") does match the background seen in the video.
I'll keep looking into this because it certainly "feels" off but i cannot figure out why. Would recommend reaching out to BBC Verify,
(And usually AI fakes that i've looked into before mess up real life locations like this)
what throws me off (as a local) is that Park Ave is a one-way, northbound street.
Yes, ICE/CBP is dumb--but driving against three lanes of one-way traffic in unmarked cars dumb? Just weird.
Where was it reported?
Federal immigration officers have been collecting personal information about protesters and agitators in Minneapolis, sources told CNN – and had documented details about Alex Pretti before he was shot to death on Saturday.
It is unclear how Pretti first came to the attention of federal authorities, but sources told CNN that about a week before his death, he suffered a broken rib when a group of federal officers tackled him while he was protesting their attempt to detain other individuals.

The comments on it are 90% “asmongold sent me here”
They're apparently a gen z focused media outlet. Looking at other articles they seem to skew maybe slightly right, but anti Israel. But nothing from them looks particularly egregious or clickbaity.
Hey guys, before we descend into "this feels fake" or such, I have some suggestions on how you can verify any media:
Search social media for the location and date that they mention in the video and try to find other angles or nearby instances
Do not rely on "image analysis" tools as I've not seen any that are foolproof
I'm pretty sure one of the two journalists is in this discord aswell btw, (Dan is.)
The protests are incredibly filmed and so you should be able to find something
This is your chance for some practice so tag me with what you find!
How accurate is facial recognition in this kind of situation?
BBC is saying "97% accuracy" (according to the video), but ice facial rec has misidentified people multiple times in much much better circumstances.
IMO if you're going to do facial recognition in a situation like this you should treat it like a police line-up where you have multiple similar looking people to compare it to.
(I personally would much rather use my own eyes, as a bit of a luddite)<
but as an aside- i can confirm that the journalist's official twitter page (Linked from when he used to work at VICE) also posted a link to this story which has his face front and center, so i'm leaning towards real atm

BBC confirmation via Mediaite:
The News Movement was the outlet that captured the incident on Jan. 13. It said in an X post that it “appears to be Alex Pretti interacting with federal immigration agents” and that it had the clip analyzed by the BBC, “whose facial recognition technology confirmed his identify to a 97% degree of accuracy.”
The BBC confirmed the authenticity of the video in their 10 p.m. GMT news broadcast. Reporter Ros Atkins said the man in the video “has the same coat, facial hair and gait as Alex Pretti and a facial recognition tool suggests a 97% match. We see him shouting abuse at the agents.” Separately, a spokesperson for the BBC confirmed to Mediaite that they reviewed the footage and concluded the man in the video is 97% likely to be Alex Pretti.
https://www.mediaite.com/politics/breaking-bbc-confirms-authenticity-of-viral-video-appearing-to-show-alex-pretti-kicking-agents-car-11-days-before-shooting/
(links to Threads hardly ever load for me, so I have to keep looking)
Facial recognition tools are imprecise, as we've already seen ICE grabbing innocent folks multiple times based on faulty recognition:
https://www.404media.co/ices-facial-recognition-app-misidentified-a-woman-twice/
97% accuracy could mean anything. Of 500k people that's confusion of 15k people and we don't know the database
That's not exactly true if they're comparing it to one person.
There's a big difference between asking if the photo is one specific person and getting 97% confidence, and asking it who it could be from an entire database and getting 97% confidence.
Of 500k times doing that you're misidentifying 15k people
But they didn't do it 500k times. They did it once.
anyone have the 10PM GMT news?

Seems like a clip of this would have been big news, if Ros Atkins said this live on a 10pm segment

REAKING: A federal judge in Minnesota has barred the Trump administration from arresting / detaining the state's 5,600 refugees while they await lawful permanent resident status. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
We don't know how this is measured and a twin is probably more than 3% similar, either you were correct or not there is no definition of a 97% person either it is or isn't, and if they can't be 100% then what is the error other than misidentifying people? Unless you're saying if you do it once you should just assume it is 100% correct because on average it is 97% correct? You would not brush your teeth with that toxic toothpaste.
There are number of these “AI” claims online right now. I am not adept enough to confirm or deny but I did think the info about what the vehicle would look like with a missing taillight may be an area to confirm at least. Thoughts? https://www.threads.com/@georgia.antifascist/post/DUEsp4qDSrA
The percentage is arising from the probability model they're using to match the face. 100% matches are exceedingly rare in facial (or fingerprint) matching. Systems that rely on matching set a threshold that is high enough to avoid false positives at the expense of more false negatives.
With that said, 97% is high enough that it would probably unlock your phone.
It's not a white line, it's a bollard
They're saying it "doesn't look like that when broken" with no evidence. I don't know that model of car, but it looks right to me. I doubt an AI would get the detail of the inside of a taillight, and have it swing down still attached to the wiring.
I'm as sure as I could possibly be that the footage is real. It could theoretically be a deep fake face replacement but I seriously doubt it.
AI also generally struggles with the frantic movement of a person holding a phone, a lot of ai videos look oddly stabilized. And speaking of stabilizing, that makes it much harder to deep fake.
I'm happy accepting that BBC News presented it and said their "facial recognition tool suggests a 97% match."
I'm sure friends, family, medical records will have final confirmation if this is the event that resulted in his broken rib & medication
Sorry if this was said already
But we used a facial recognition tool in a couple of investigations that would give you a confidence rating
so maybe that's what the BBC used
The tool would say that two people's faces were the same with a % confidence rating
My question is how accurate has that been in situations like these? Do you know if it's standard practice for BBC or others to use a lineup for a better sample?
I dont know how the BBC did it. I dont even know if they used the same tool that I'm referencing... I'm just saying that there's a facial recognition tool that I know that we've used that gives you a % confidence rating
So its not unusual IMO for the BBC to give a confidence rating in their analysis
Bollard gives them too much gravitas. They're thin plastic poles designed to minimize pedestrian injuries:
The two flat ones in the intersection is the practical example of why they are crap.
they're also cheap to replace 😄
20 minute video of same scene and incident. I have not watched thewhole thing yet https://youtu.be/p2TRbFmutrw
and non-destructive to ... distracted drivers
Sure. Sorry if it wasn't clear, I'm asking in your experience has the confidence rating that they provide lined up with reality of has it been over confident in your experience? I've struggled to find reliable info about it, and a lot of the claims seem to be in ideal conditions.
When we've used it, anything about 80% was pretty reliably the same perosn
(Again, I have no idea what tool the BBC used, if its the same one, etc.)
Brilliant thanks, so we can say it's highly likely this is Alex Pretti?
I see Pretti starting at 16:49. He's coming in hot because there's a clear Eff-you from him right after that.
Personally I'd trust that the BBC Verify team did its homeworok as it usually does and published correct information
Pretti shows up at minute 17 and yells at officers. He kicks the car and they engage with him but obstructed view.
Still! Searching social media for other videos or vantage points allows you to not entirely rest on one source 🙂
I think there may be a general inclination among some people to want to disbelieve the video because it may make them feel uncomfortable because it's being used by some bad actors to justify Alex's killing. But the fact is that even if that's Alex in the video, that in no way justify his killing
Damaging a vehicle and spitting/fighting cops doesn't carry the death penalty

If anything it shows that the interaction did not need to be deadly. He'd engaged with ice on a previous occasion while armed and actually belligerent and wasn't shot to death.
Also disproves the narrative that he came to "massacre law enforcement". We have footage of him engaged with ice while armed and not doing that.
I will be the first to say that the production of the video is what threw me off.
The second video confirms the first was real. Not 100% sure that is Pretti but seems very, very likely.
This community is incredible.
We know now that he regularly carried his gun. Nothing was different on the day he was shot.
This is what I was looking for, awesome
FYI one quick tip I've found for spotting AI is to zoom in close and look at areas with light wrap. In ai images or video the colour gradient often has a straight vertical line. If you ever see that that's almost certainly an AI image. Just sharing because I don't think I've seen that aspect talked about before.
I do want to add some caveats about AI in images. Recently I took a photo of a fire truck to send to my nephew because that's his jam. When I enlarged the image I found that my phone had filled in some details because I had taken it from far away. "STOP" on the stop sign showed the typical "AI trying to form letters" pieces and so did the logo on the fire trucks.
If I hadn't noticed or didn't know what to look for and sent it out, it's still a real picture. Just "improved". So I think, currently, even if we see evidence of AI in imagery it doesn't necessarily mean the whole image is a fake.
Which is extremely difficult and why triangulation from multiple sources is going to be increasingly necessary
I want to clarify that I did not think the whole video was fake more like doctored to perhaps include Pretti in the scene somehow.
It just felt doctored when it was really just kind of over produced. Perhaps because I (we?) have become used to videos from these types of situations to be from a cellphone.

The “AI” narrative has taken hold on Threads. Like MaGA conspiracies all people will see what ,they want and ignore other facts so I think this will continue to be a narrative
It's not limited to any group of people
Exactly, may not have worded that correctly. Sorry
I think you can still tell something like this with AI upscaling in comparison to something fully generated. For example you can see it's meant to say "stop". One ai image I saw was a coffee shop, and you can just about see in the background every menu option is just the word "coffee". Context clues like that are very valuable in comparison to just "weirdness". Though in my experience it's far far far easier to tell a video is NOT ai, than if it is.
The single best way to tell if something is ai is to look at edgecases, things which are extremely unlikely to have existed in it's training data, like the inside of the broken tail light or the background buildings in this video. If they match it's almost certain the video is not AI.
(sorry is this is off topic, but it might be good to write a detecting AI guide if one doesn't already exist?)
Another data point that's becoming too common across the country
https://www.nytimes.com/video/us/100000010663646/minneapolis-ice-arrests-mother-detained.html
A spokesperson for his family and the family’s attorney have verified that the man in the video is Pretti.
Shapiro approaches Pretti, who he did not know, and asks if he’s OK.
Pretti says that he is, before turning to the dispersing crowd. “Are we all OK? Are we all safe?” he calls out to the dozen or so bystanders who remain.
Shapiros video is embedded in the story
Archived version of the startribune story: https://archive.ph/j8k6K
Now I want to know if any of the agents are the same. Same general area. . . They do not have time to capture his information other than through facial rec so I’m not sure about the database theory. He was not arrested in the earlier incident. Has it been confirmed if he is in their database?

There were over 3000 agents in Minneapolis at the time, and there's probably dozens of incidents like this every day. There's absolutely nothing to suggest any connection between these two incidents. It's extremely unlikely to any agent would recognise one particular protestor out of the hundreds there has been.
Jan 13 incident was with ICE agents (per family attorney); Jan 24 incident was CBP.
ICE situation on the ground is still very bad:

An eyewitness account of Pretti's earlier encounter with ICE in which he kicked their car: || https://bsky.app/profile/whstancil.bsky.social/post/3mdkr7h2nis2r ||
Okay so I was actually at this encounter, filmed the aftermath, and am briefly visible in this video, and I would point out that what he does here is briefly kick a car twice. ICE beats him up, shoots pepper balls into the crowd, and launches tear gas at everyone else before leaving.

News Movement posted this video of Alex Pretti on Jan 13, showing him spitting at ICE agents and kicking their taillight. Now conservatives are suggesting this changes things.
That would mean they are suggesting he deserved to be target of an extrajudicial execution.
The video changes nothing.

CNN: How did we get to a place where we had Bovino having Border Patrol agents stopping citizens in interior of the country, asking them ID, creating fear? Who made the decisions to allow this kind of operation to proceed?
HOMAN: The reason for the massive deployment is bc of the threats & violence
Homan: "We are not surrendering our mission at all. We are just doing it smarter."
Homan: "The withdrawal of law enforcement resources here is dependent upon cooperation ... as we see that cooperation happen, then the redeployment will happen"

The Trump administration dispatched thousands of federal agents to Minnesota under the stated goal of beefing up the response to the state’s fraud crisis following viral claims of wrongdoing by Somali immigrants.
Two months later, Trump administration officials have said little about what those newly arrived federal agents are doing to root out and prosecute fraud in Minnesota’s social service programs. Deportations and violent clashes with protesters, including the killing of two Minnesotans who were U.S. citizens, have been the most notable features of Operation Metro Surge.
Ongoing fraud investigations, meanwhile, experienced a massive setback this month when six of the state’s top federal prosecutors resigned in protest of the Justice Department’s investigation into 37-year-old Renee Good’s killing. Prominent state leaders, including Gov. Tim Walz, quickly recognized their departures as a major loss for fraud-fighting efforts.

Is the author saying that the kicking of the car happened before or after ICE beat Alex up, etc?
There are multiple recordings from January 13 documenting him kicking the car before agents grabbed him.
Before.
I don't think Stancil says either way. His video starts after Pretti kicks the car and breaks the taillight, though
It is not ambiguous anymore that it was Alex Pretti in the video.
A spokesperson for his family and the family’s attorney have verified that the man in the video is Pretti.
...
A representative for the family told the Star Tribune on Jan. 28 that he could not confirm the extent of those injuries. However, Pretti did tell relatives about a previous scuffle with federal law enforcement that tore his jacket, shirt and boots, the spokesman said. In the aftermath, Pretti complained of pain related to unknown injuries, he said, but did not seek medical treatment.

National leadership at the Department of Veterans Affairs initially blocked a memorial planned for Alex Pretti, the 37-year-old ICU nurse who was shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis.
In an email obtained by The New Republic, officials at the Minneapolis VA claimed that “local leadership was instructed to pause the memorial” for Pretti, initially scheduled for Tuesday at noon.
https://newrepublic.com/post/205865/veterans-affairs-va-officials-block-memorial-service-alex-pretti
I'm going to apologize in advance for this post. I am a veteran that is disabled due to my time in the service and have been treated almost exclusively through the VA. It is nowhere near perfect but it was the first place I ever felt safe talking about the issues I was having and that was because of the VA nurse who treated me. I know this is not objective reporting but with all the talk of Alex's death in the channel I wanted to share this short clip I saw on tik-tok of him honoring a veteran who passed that was under his care. This is the man he was. If this needs to be moved or deleted that's fine. I just wanted to make sure I shared it.
Local news had an interview with a woman who remembered his care:
https://youtu.be/vYYhqEvgGGo?si=-UAnD-92xUYjvPW9
You likely know by now Alex Pretti was a Nurse at the VA Hospital. He worked with the sickest of the sick in the ICU. One of his recent patients tells us just how hard it was to see him hurt.
For video licensing inquiries, contact: [email protected]
I probably haven't cried in 2 years, this situation has had me in tears and enraged. I didn't recieve treatment from him but I can confidently say the VA nurses are the only reason I am still alive today. May Alex rest in peace.

what is the difference betwen these charges and the prior charges that were refused by two courts previously?
The first court (and later the appeals court) found that there wasn't probable cause for an arrest warrant. Then the DOJ impaneled a grand jury who indicted him and thus decided they did have probable cause. I don't think the actual charges would have been different.

It's believed to be the first time a local police department in Minnesota intervened in a federal law enforcement action since the surge in immigration enforcement began two months ago.
The woman, who did not want to be identified because she fears for her safety, is a U.S. citizen and a resident of St. Peter. She told MPR News in an interview that she was out in the community in her car, tracking the movements of federal agents, and recording them on a dash cam.
She shared that video with us. Agents in three vehicles began chasing her and trying to force her to pull over. Eventually they box her in, three agents get out of the car in front of her, with their guns drawn and try to force her out of her vehicle.

Ah, thanks for catching that. The text in the video was so brief I did not see it.
The agents took the woman to the St. Peter police station, where she says Chief Grochow approached her, spoke with her, had her get into his squad car, and took her home.
“He knew where I lived already, because he had already been in contact with my husband.” the woman said. “He started talking to me like he just couldn't [believe] how terrible it was, what was happening. And he was so sorry and so scared for me and that type of thing, and [he] was so upset by what they're doing to our community.”
In an email to MPR News, Chief Grochow confirmed that ICE agents turned the woman over to him and he then drove the woman home.

Interesting take on the wide spread questions about the video of Alex Pretti as possible AI and how it isn’t just a case of being better at detecting AI . A few passages;
“The people dismissing The News Movement’s video as AI aren’t dumb. They’re not bad at spotting fakes. Many of them are probably quite good at it. They’ve spent years learning to be skeptical of viral content. They know that foreign influence operations seed fake videos to divide Americans. They know that AI-generated slop floods social media every day. They know that bad actors create convincing forgeries to manipulate public opinion.
All of that is true. The problem is that they’ve internalized “be skeptical of AI” as a heuristic and they’re deploying it selectively, based on whether the content in question confirms or challenges their existing beliefs.
This is confirmation bias with a new escape hatch.”
—-
“We built detection tools. We funded verification units. We taught media literacy. And it turns out none of that matters much when people can simply opt out of reality by invoking the magic words.
I don’t have a solution to offer here. The technology that enables AI-generated content is improving faster than our social capacity to adapt to it. The psychological vulnerabilities that make the liar’s dividend work are deeply rooted in how humans process threatening information. The political incentives that reward reality-denial aren’t going anywhere.”
People having an out by saying that a thing is fake is nothing new. Prior to AI it was "paid crisis actors".
ICE agent in Minneapolis sprays a woman in the face as she observes an arrest in Ventura Village
"paid crisis actors" never actually happens though. It's always a conspiracy. Most sane people know it's always a lie. Defamatory fake AI generated content is something people encounter on a daily basis. It's not unusual to expect anything damaging you see to be AI, because very often it is.

I just spoke with @RealTomHoman @ICEDirector @CBPCommissioner. Effective immediately we are deploying body cameras to every officer in the field in Minneapolis.
As funding is available, the body camera program will be expanded nationwide. We will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country.

Make America Safe Again 🇺🇸
Noem did not specifically say agents would be required to wear the cameras.
...
Even without approved funding in the Homeland Security appropriations bill, the agency still has roughly $175 billion in funding for immigration enforcement from the massive tax cuts and spending package passed last year.In the fiscal year 2026 appropriations bill for Homeland Security, $20 million was set aside for body cameras for immigration agents. That measure would be the subject of two weeks of negotiations under the spending package under consideration in the House.
To anyone tempted to celebrate Noem's big announcement that ICE will use body cams and that it will be expanded nationwide as funding is available...
That's already been official ICE policy for over two years.

BREAKING: We’re suing on behalf of Minnesota school districts and educators to block DHS and ICE from conducting immigration enforcement in or near public schools.
Toddlers are getting tear gassed. ICE’s actions are a threat to children’s safety and education. This reign of terror must end.
The observers said ICE watch is different in the suburbs than in the cities. There are fewer observers spread out over a much larger area. Many ride alone. And observers keep their distance from agents and stay in their cars, as opposed to the cities where observers are often seen on sidewalks or streets.
It's more soccer moms than hardcore activists, they said. But the challenging conditions have brought them closer together. After knowing each other for just weeks, they feel like they’d give their lives to protect one another if necessary.
“I feel like that’s one of the things that’s unique about patrolling in the ‘burbs is it’s not like it is in the city, where there are dozens of observers immediately when ICE shows up,” Elizabeth said. “We are alone — it’s two petite women in our vehicles.”

Just now: Observers and protesters confront heavily armed federal agents leaving an apparent raid at an apartment building as immigration enforcement surge continues in downtown Minneapolis.
IMO biggest tipoff with things like this is no licensing information on a commercial vehicle, let alone for what is ostensibly an electrician or lineman's vehicle. While not a legal issue, it would also be very peculiar to have no contact info (e.g. phone number) next to your logo - why advretise your brand if potential customers can't contact you?
IIRC most states require a license number to be displayed on a side door or on the rear, in at least 1" tall letters, and possibly a DOT number alongside. (Each state is different and the rules can be verified on each states' licensing board's website for a given trade).
The shovel lie. Bystanders were missed by the shot.

Two Venezuelan men who were charged with assaulting a federal immigration agent were re-detained after a judge ordered them to be released on Tuesday. On Jan. 14, the two men allegedly assaulted an ICE officer when one was being detained by ICE; the officer then shot one of the men in the leg when he […]
Can you add descriptions, please?
So what's the point of ordering release from ICE custody if ICE can re-arrest them without consequence?
Yes, ICE drags their feet in court processes & continue to operate with impunity in Minnesota.
But I think getting the court ruling, actually getting released and returned to their families and communities makes a big difference for people who get detained.

Notably filed in Michigan, not Minnesota. The person threatened is a civilian in Michigan. The crime is because the threat crossed state lines. No probable cause in this document to believe they had threatened a public official (ICE/CBP).
This is an extremely rare case of online harassment being charged. This specific document is tangentially related to ICE.
So the filed court document directly contradicts the statements of the federal government on the matter. I messed up reading. it's misleading, not contradictory. https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/anti-ice-antifa-member-arrested-federal-charges-cyberstalking-and-threatening-communications
from your link:
The complaint further alleges that on January 29, 2026, Wagner, used his Instagram account to dox a pro-ICE individual by publishing a phone number, birth month and year, and address in Oak Park, Michigan, threatening the individual. Wagner later admitted that he doxxed the victim’s parents’ house.
Yes, the statemnet from the government is that they ... oooh sneaky.
he was charged for a crime unrelated to ice/cbp and separately called for assault of federal officials. But he's not being charged with calling for the assault of federal officials.
I'm just here to note that I'm not a lawyer with all the evidence, violations, and understanding of the charges, are you?
Kyle Wagner was arrested today on federal threat and cyberstalking charges following alleged murder and assault threats against ICE
very sneaky. Two separate things that aren't related put together to seem related.
"This man allegedly doxxed and called for the murder of law enforcement officers" this was not alleged in the document I have found. There may be other documents we don't have access to.
So the possibility still exists in the justice.gov link that you shared that there is another complaint
According to the criminal complaint, Wagner has escalated his opposition to ICE operations, including conspiring and threatening to assault federal law enforcement officers in Minneapolis. In January 2026, Wagner repeatedly posted on Facebook and Instagram encouraging his followers to forcibly confront, assault, impede, oppose, and resist federal officers whom he referred to as the “gestapo” and “murderers.”

Ethicallyunbothered: Well, I would love to talk about that more. Can you tell me more what you mean by that? Like, what specifically do you feel like Trump’s been more transparent with?
Agent: Every time we made a serious arrest against a criminal alien, we [inaudible] put it out, alright? But the media does not want to show you that, especially blue state media. Because it doesn’t fit their narrative.
…
Agent: The reason why, and I’m going to be completely honest with you, the reason why they don’t want the population [inaudible]…
…
Agent: Yeah. The reason why they don’t want the population to go down in Minnesota is the more people that you lose in Minnesota, you then lose a voting right to stay blue. This is exactly why…
…
Ethicallyunbothered: Well, if you’re only taking illegals, we’re not losing any voters.
Agent: That’s wrong because technically they’re trying to pass a bill that [inaudible] require you to be a United States citizen to vote in an election.

A masked federal agent in a convenience store parking lot in the northern Twin Cities suburb of Coon Rapids told legal observers that Minnesota's status as a blue state is linked with the removal of residents.
HCSO has been at the front lines of Whipple, arresting protestors themselves also:
The sheriff said she was open to the possibility of transferring immigrants who were facing trial for serious crimes such as murder or rape to jails in the state that hold contracts with ICE. She said she was also considering providing ICE with information about inmates who had been charged with violent crimes, which she said might be “palatable for our community.”
But Sheriff Witt said she worried about enabling the deportation of people who had minor run-ins with the law. She said she was also concerned about the possibility that ICE could deport people before they stood trial on serious matters, depriving victims of their day in court.
Even if she makes a politically risky concession to the White House, Sheriff Witt said, there is no guarantee that it would end the crackdown in the Twin Cities. Sheriff Witt, who prides herself on being accessible to constituents, said residents’ anger over the immigration operation had consumed her days.

Hicks said she found an attorney for Ubreu Thursday night, adding that she and the attorney are trying to get a letter from his Mayo Clinic doctor up to the Whipple Building. She’s scared that the federal agents won’t release his medication before his flight.

rumors converging on the 'bite' from locals:
https://bskye.app/profile/natepentz.bsky.social/post/3mecp3w74xk2v
Heard from one of the folks charged last week and then had the mug shot posted by Bondi, that the Feds have already dropped the felony down to a misdemeanor.
I don't think Nate is referring to either of the biting cases. There were a few cases that were downgraded by the US Attorney's Office in Minneapolis:
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/06/us/justice-dept-minnesota-immigration-crackdown-misdemeanors.html
Archive: (pending - busy night, apparently)
it's in the NYT article too!
from the original Star Tribune reporting:
An agent fell to the pavement while attempting to arrest the female. While the agent was on the ground, Feng tackled him. A second agent pulled Feng off and took her to the ground. While Feng was face down, the second agent reached under her in an attempt to restrain one of her arms.
“Feng then forcibly bit the right ring finger of [the second agent],” the complaint read.
The wounded agent’s vision was distorted by his gas mask, leaving him “not aware of the severity of Feng’s bite, but [he] knew he was injured,” the complaint continued.
Once he removed his glove, the injured agent saw that a tip of the finger was bitten off.
“The victim located the tip of his finger inside his glove and was able to get medical attention approximately 45 minutes after the incident,” the complaint noted.Around the same time, a Border Patrol agent attempted to arrest Baierl after seeing her throw objects after federal officers.
While the agent was trying to arrest Baierl, someone pushed him off her. A second agent then attempted to detain Baierl. While the second officer tried to remove her mask, Baierl bit him on the middle finger of his glove-covered right hand.
so both accused of biting, only one removed fingertip and one that we know had her charge downgraded.
So it's probably safer to go with the NYT story as the update, rather than Nate's post?
So... there aren't any locally-owned Korean bakeries in Minneapolis
There's a few Tous Les Jours in the suburbs? But those are franchised, chain locations

ICE knock on glass door to bakery with barrel of guns—employee "almost got killed by ICE tonight."
︀︀
︀︀As one of only white people in store—manager hid Korean immigrant coworkers in freezers "World War II style."
︀︀
︀︀Agent told him they "didn't need" and "didn't care" about a warrant.
︀︀
︀︀The 2 completely masked agents continued to point their guns through the glass door—"I thought, oh my God, I'm going to die."
︀︀
︀︀After calling 911, the local police eventually arrived on the scene and the ICE agents just left.
︀︀
︀︀The man insists that his coworkers are all in the country legally—"But who brings documents with them to work?"
︀︀
︀︀The incident occurred at a locally owned Korean bakery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Unless this highly-recorded, ICE-aware city completely missed this event, my suspicion is that this guy is just making his story up to lie on the Internet.
Again, there are zero Korean bakeries in this city and no corroboration.
I have some people I can ask, hold please
His TikTok was pacmanfrogenjoyer, looks deleted AFAIK
Looks like it wasn't even recent news, since there's a reply to this now-deleted video dated from 1/28 https://www.tiktok.com/@rj12764/video/7600561806414744887?q=pacmanfrogenjoyer&t=1770662017617
There's line at about 1:20 in the video where he says "it's getting really bad. People are getting killed for recording ICE agents. We saw that today."
As of right now, there are two deaths that fit that description. Neither happened in February.
Citizens Utility Board
Other people I talked to said it seems weird and unreliable as well
was the video spead up to potentially mask that it might have been Generated/altered?
The original account was deleted, so unless someone knows a way to view deleted TikToks, we're outta luck
Is this the new account? https://www.tiktok.com/@average_leftists
https://youtu.be/9QxAHJ0G-ik looks to be another telling of the story as well
Um yeah, basically the title of the video
so again:
- I challenge anyone to point on a map to a "locally owned Korean bakery in Minneapolis, Minnesota." There isn't one.
- The 'original video' from a deleted TikTok account cites the Alex Pretti shooting the same day. There were hundreds of people in the streets that day recording ICE. Where is any recording of this Korean bakery?
If we can't find any physical location or any other accounts matching this description--and I'll doxx myself a little, I live in Minneapolis and know the Asian bakeries--we lack the evidence to prove this story.
There are French bakeries, Viet-French ones, Lao-French ones. Expanding the search you can find Chinese, and Korean chain bakeries in the suburbs.
No location matches his story that I am aware of.
There is no shortage of real accounts of ICE raids in Minneapolis that justifies fabricating stories for Internet points
https://bskye.app/profile/gallantdimwit.bsky.social/post/3mejatdvzqc2r
I’m not disagreeing with you in the slightest. Also, happy to say I’m also in the area, (second ring suburb). There was discussion about his original TikTok being taken down and also I had found another telling of the story and didn’t know if this further disproved his telling of events.
apologies! I'm just upset with this one. Even AI/deepfaked images around Pretti's death could tie into a larger political agenda, this one just seems petty and dumb
Which is why sometimes further analysis is needed to deeply confirm false stories are just that
Looking at the other TikTok videos on the newer account suggests the author works at a Starbucks.
So possible that the store(s) are owned by a Korean family; it's deliberate framing to make the store sound more vulnerable.
just a thought from my own experience (I'm not local, it's just a thing where I live) that the bakeries might not be standalone, but part of a restaurant or grocery
if you have also checked those @remote iris might be worth mentioning 🙂
hearing Starbucks actually might narrow it down, since they're outnumbered by Caribou Coffees in the area
there also aren't any of those in minneapolis proper, good shout though <3
asian grocery stores with other businesses in them are pretty much all in either saint paul (cuz large hmong population), or in suburbs
and none in regular grocery chains
people often don't communicate in great detail so what a person might say is a "korean bakery" could actually be a general Asian grocer, etc. I always try to start with what they literally said, and then branch out 🙂
That's disturbing

I think the fundamental part of the story that create scepticism, is that there is repeated reference to the whole interaction being recorded yet there is no accompanying video.

Is anyone else having trouble finding any livestreams or live info out of Minneapolis?
Not particularly, Star Tribune has a live feed that updates daily for big news, but there aren't large protests/gatherings every day either.
Maybe Whipple is worth filming regularly, but what are you trying to find out more about?
Most of the "legal observer" networks are highly intolerant of reporters/livestreamers trying to film content from folks looking out for their neighborhood, so those highly decentralized orgs intentionally avoid online visibility, especially considering the personal risk for themselves & other residents fearing ICE retribution

Brandon Reader told the Minnesota Star Tribune that he was just about to get out of his car this morning when he saw a Prius “come barreling down the road crazy fast [southbound on Western].”
Reader said that less than a car length behind him was a sedan with sirens and lights flashing.
The Prius driver ran a stop sign and struck a car in his path. The Prius then hit a minivan before striking an icy mound of snow and going airborne, he said.
The pursuing car stopped behind the Prius, and an officer wearing clothing and gear consistent with that of federal agents got out, Reader said.
In the meantime, Reader said the Prius driver clambered through the broken front windshield and fled on foot but was brought back to the scene in a federal vehicle.
He said many more federal agents arrived, as did numerous St. Paul police officers.
An ambulance showed up about 20 minutes after the crash, and the Prius driver was put on a gurney and driven away, Reader said.

Federal prosecutors have moved to drop criminal charges against two Venezuelan men whose highly publicized arrests in north Minneapolis last month have been disputed after conflicting accounts emerged from Homeland Security officials and defense attorneys.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Feb. 12 that “newly discovered evidence” in the case against Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis and Alfredo Alejandro Aljorna is “materially inconsistent” with the allegations initially brought against them in a criminal complaint. The motion to dismiss did not list specifics about the new evidence.

The less densely populated areas outside the Twin Cities make it harder for protesters and observers to organize.
Border czar Tom Homan said Thursday that “significant cooperation” from local law enforcement helped lead to the expected end of Operation Metro Surge, but sheriffs across Minnesota say their policies have not changed.
The Minnesota Star Tribune asked sheriffs in all of the state’s 87 counties this week if they signed a new agreement with federal officials or changed their immigration enforcement policies since Homan’s arrival. As of Thursday afternoon, roughly 40% of sheriffs had responded and none of them had changed their policies.

@prisma silo follow up on Kyle Wagner; appears this IS the only charge and nothing else related to federal agents.

Update: The federal indictment against Kyle Wagner confirms our reporting, that Wagner was arrested and charged with cyberstalking right-wing agitator Jayden Scott (who allegedly stalked a Minnesota reporter before this) and NOT federal agents.
︀︀
︀︀Multiple news outlets incorrectly reported that Wagner was charged with threatening federal agents. AP corrected their version after I inquired, but ABC, CBS and Minnesota Star Tribune STILL have wrong reporting up. DHS clearly lied about this case, and DOJ was arguably misleading in their release.

︀
NEW: The Trump admin publicized the arrest of an "antifa domestic terrorist," implying he was charged with threatening federal agents. But the criminal complaint suggests Kyle Wagner was primarily charged with Instagram beefing (cyberstalking) controversial rightwing agitator Jayden Scott.

ICE HSI special agents were gathering intelligence into the fraud that has cost Minnesota taxpayers billions. Then, they were attacked.
︀︀
︀︀Hostile agitators surrounded our agents, leading local police to respond to break up the crowd. Then the crowd grew violent and attacked us AND the local police.
︀︀
︀︀Agitators surrounded an HSI vehicle and slashed its tires, forcing ICE and local police to fight and defend themselves until the vehicle could be safely towed.
︀︀
︀︀Fortunately, no officers were injured. Anyone who attacks or impedes law enforcement WILL face the full force of the law.

This is somewhat more of an old-fashioned ICE ruse. Arguably this is a sign of the agency going back to more standard “targeted enforcement” tactics designed to be not as disruptive as the more recent aggro-style arrests. Watch for more like this to come.

Minnesota criminal investigators have again been denied access to evidence and other materials collected by federal authorities after the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, state officials said Monday.
https://www.mprnews.org/story/2026/02/16/fbi-will-not-provide-bca-access-to-evidence-gathered-from-pretti-shooting-bca-says
The FBI formally notified the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) on Feb. 13 that it will not provide the BCA with access to any information or evidence that it has collected in the Jan. 24 shooting death of Alex Pretti. The BCA reiterated the request to receive information, access to evidence, and cooperation in the Jan. 7 shooting death of Renee Good and the Jan. 14 shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis. It remains unclear if there will be any cooperation or sharing of information related to those two shootings.

Hennepin County Attorney’s Office issues “Touhy” demands for federal information related to Alex Pretti’s killing, shooting of Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office (HCAO) has issued more “Touhy” demands to the federal government, related to the death of Alex Pretti and shooting of Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis.
In state court, the HCAO uses subpoenas to obtain evidence. “Touhy” is the required process to obtain records and evidence from a federal agency.
We understand that the Trump administration sent a representative to oversee the discussions between the BCA and the FBI related to Alex Pretti’s death. A final decision was conveyed to the BCA at the end of last week that there would be no cooperation. While the federal government attempts to hide evidence, we are demanding that they reverse this decision and produce the evidence by March 3.

‘This isn’t living, right?’: Minnesota immigrants share their stories while in hiding from ICE

MPR News collected stories from several people under those circumstances across the state. They recorded voices memos or spoke to a reporter over three days between Jan. 24 and Feb. 4, sharing what their day was like. They answered questions including: did you leave the house today? What did you not get to do today that you normally get to do? How is this impacting your life? The result is an intimate portrait of Minnesotans who have been deeply impacted by the surge of federal immigration agents in the state. But Isle stands to gain something from the deal: The Department of Homeland Security will pay for officers’ online training. And once certified, the city could get $100,000 for a new police car and $7,500 for equipment for each trained officer, which is not insignificant for a city with an annual public safety budget of $830,000.
While many residents said they hadn’t heard that the city signed the agreement, several said they expected widespread support for it.

Most of the petitions were filed by a newly mobilized army of volunteer lawyers with little or no experience with immigration law.
They are corporate litigators, divorce lawyers, estate planners and criminal defense attorneys who are leveraging their bar admission to mount an unprecedented defense of immigrants against the Trump administration’s efforts to achieve mass deportations through a new legal theory that rejects decades of precedent on who can be detained pending immigration proceedings.
...
Some immigrants detained had no previous contact with immigration enforcement, and so even if their arrests were ruled illegal, they are nevertheless in proceedings that may ultimately lead to their deportation. And the volunteer army of divorce attorneys and patent lawyers don’t have the specialized knowledge to represent them in that next phase of their case.
“One of the really hard things about this work is explaining to families … that my ability to help is limited. I can get you out of confinement, but I won’t be able to solve the more permanent problem of making sure you can stay here safely,” Boulette said.
Their cases must then be picked up by immigration attorneys like Solomon Steen, who said there has simply never been enough immigration lawyers to keep up — even before Operation Metro Surge.
Since the launch of Operation Metro Surge, federal judges in Minnesota have repeatedly ruled — hundreds of times — that immigration agents illegally arrested and detained people and must release them. The remaining ICE force of about 500 does not include additional Homeland Security Investigations agents.
Though both lawmakers said they remain skeptical, the updates offer rare verification that immigration agents have indeed left Minnesota a week after Homan announced plans to end the operation. Homan said in a CNN interview Friday he plans to winnow ICE’s force in Minnesota to a ”regular footprint” of 150 agents, dwarfing the estimated 3,000 agents sent to the state as the operation peaked.

He is one of many children who have been swept up under Operation Metro Surge. But instead of taking Sebastian to the Whipple Federal Building and sending him to another detention center, the feds sent him to a Christian youth shelter in Michigan.
The government then lost track of his whereabouts for the better part of a week, during which his family searched frantically for their son.
Sebastian’s journey is one of the strangest wrongful-detainment petitions to emerge from the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in Minnesota. It’s also illustrative of the administration’s new approach to the “unaccompanied minor” system.
A retired federal agent rehired by ICE as part of Kristi Noem’s mass recruitment push accidentally discharged his gun in a hotel room, firing one round through the wall that came to rest in the headboard of the bed in the room next door.

Rapid responders also recorded more ICE activities in the suburbs than in the Twin Cities in recent days. On Feb. 17, for example, observers recorded immigration activities 20 times in the suburbs, compared to three times in the Twin Cities.
The data is incomplete and not intended to capture all ICE activity. The crowdsourced data includes 578 arrests during Operation Metro Surge, around 14% of the 4,000 arrests federal officials announced on Feb. 4. An untold number of immigrants have been arrested without the cameras and whistles of observers, and even when people do witness ICE activity, they may not be connected to a rapid response group chat to report it. Also, the number of people actively observing and documenting ICE activity has fluctuated over time.
Still, in the absence of robust, publicly available data on arrests and other immigration enforcement activity over time from the federal government, data collected by observers offers some insight into immigration enforcement trends.
President Donald Trump’s border czar announced the imminent end to Operation Metro Surge, the surge of 3,000 immigration enforcement agents in Minnesota, on Feb. 12. At the time, Tom Homan said that agents from other states would be sent home or deployed elsewhere within a week, and a “small footprint” would remain for “a period […]

The use of a chemical irritant by U.S. Border Patrol Cmdr. Greg Bovino is among 17 instances of “potential unlawful behavior” by federal agents during Operation Metro Surge currently being investigated for criminal charges, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said Monday.
...
Moriarty said Monday that her office had closed the public portals to submit evidence into the killings of Good and Pretti and the shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis by federal agents after receiving over 1,000 submissions from community members. Those materials are now in the hands of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, which is also interviewing witnesses. The BCA is building a case file to turn over to the county attorney for potential charging decisions against the federal agents involved.
This morning, our office announced the creation of the Transparency and Accountability Project (TAP) in the wake of Operation Metro Surge to collect and assess evidence submitted by the public of potentially unlawful behavior by federal agents.

The whistleblower’s account also supported the public reporting that FBI personnel were informed the civil rights investigation must be closed.

Drone sightings drove surveillance fears as ICE surged in Minnesota
...

The federal government won’t confirm or deny using drones for surveillance in Minnesota. Local law enforcement agencies say the drones aren’t theirs.
St. Paul Mayor Kaoly Her is denying a request for independent probe into violent police response that injured three journalists during a November U.S. Immigration and Customs arrest, saying an internal investigation should finish first.
In December, the St. Paul Police Civilian Internal Affairs Review Commission requested an independent investigation into the St. Paul Police response late last year that turned violent.
It left three photojournalists injured during a Nov. 25 ICE arrest in the 600 block of Rose Street East in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood.
In a March 4 letter, Her denied that request. She explained Friday that the department’s Internal Affairs unit is already investigating the case.

The government’s case against the church protest was initially so weak that a judge rejected it, not once but repeatedly, leading to prosecutors taking the extraordinary step of bypassing the courts entirely and going directly to a grand jury to get what they couldn’t get from a judge.
…
On Jan. 20, the DOJ presented eight arrest warrants to Magistrate Judge Douglas Micko.
…
After [Micko] declined to sign off on five other arrest warrants, the Justice Department requested an emergency review from the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
…
The appeals court rejected the request. A three-judge panel from the Eighth Circuit denied the department’s request.
With every judicial avenue exhausted, the DOJ went to a grand jury of greater Minnesotans and secured [indictments], rolling them into a superseding indictment against the 39 individuals.
In the indictment, a majority of the defendants are charged for sharing the protest flyer on Facebook and attending the protest. Journalist Georgia Fort is charged for interviewing the pastor and a protest organizer.
The initial arrests, coming at the height of the popular movement against ICE in Minnesota and after two people were shot by federal agents in a week, show how far federal prosecutors are willing to go to stifle dissent, target who they deem as their political opponents, and attempt to silence independent media.
Using surveillance and GPS tracking on phones, federal agents then targeted the protesters and journalists with early morning raids in several phases, some turning violent with masked agents using battering rams to break through front doors with guns drawn and federal agents ramming vehicles to make arrests.

AWFUL. This upholds the crazy argument that for the last 30 years, no one noticed that Congress mandated detention of anyone who ever entered unlawfully. This will effectively gut most habeas lawsuits coming out of Minnesota.
FWIW, the 8th Circuit is as conversative/more conservative than the 5th.

Federal prosecutors in Minnesota are being forced to turn over critical information on the shooting of Renee Good by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer Jonathan Ross in relation to a separate case involving Ross.
Prosecutors have until May 1 to provide a slew of records, including Ross’s personnel file, to a magistrate judge to review and determine which files should be released. The materials could shine light on the killing of Good, an observer who died after Ross shot her during a January 7 confrontation amid a monthslong immigration crackdown in Minneapolis.
The order came in response to a motion from the defense attorneys for Roberto Carlos Muñoz-Guatemala, a man who Ross attempted to apprehend in a separate confrontation in June. After Ross broke a window in Muñoz-Guatemala’s car and fired his Taser, Muñoz-Guatemala drove away and was later convicted of dragging Ross with his car.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Today, the MacArthur Justice Center and Friedman Gilbert + Gerhardstein filed an FTCA claim on behalf of our client, Aliya Rahman, against the Department of Homeland Security for the brutal assault and unjust and inhumane detention she suffered at the hands of federal law enforcement agents in the Minneapolis area on January...

Okay this isn’t really happening anymore so I can tell you how l had “internal ICE sources”: the 3000 very stir-crazy ICE agents were all going wild on Minneapolis Tinder. Local girls would match with them and string them along for intel. They loved to brag about what they were doing all day

Will said he’s in communication with ICE, who are federal agents, which is frankly just as bad.

Federal and state agents have left the daycare on 13th Ave S. and 28th in Minneapolis. About two dozen carried boxes out of the building, loaded them up and drove away with minimal heckling by a couple vocal observers. Uniforms included BCA, lots of FBI and Homeland Security Investigations.
