this 7500 S South Shore raid has some very sketchy details. more than usual
At one point, [the non-immigrant resident] went outside to check on things. He said ICE shouted at him to “shut my door, get the f--k inside, and don’t open my door again.”
… a group of Venezuelan immigrants [had] moved in over the past year, some with state rental assistance for asylum seekers and others without a lease, …
During the Sept. 30 raid, residents, migrants, including the woman’s husband, and squatters alike were zip-tied in the middle of the night. Other residents — like the man who helped his neighbors hide — were left undisturbed by ICE agents, prompting questions about what federal authorities knew about the building’s occupants ahead of time and how they obtained that information.
Remnants of the raid and interviews with residents who lived through it reveal some hints, including a mysterious map of the building found in the complex and makeshift door stickers that took inventory of occupants in some units.
…
Days before the raid, the man … saw someone he believed to be a worker from the building taking pictures of the units “where the Venezuelans lived.”
… reporters also found a map crumpled … in the entryway of an apartment. It labeled each unit inside the five-floor building as “vacant,” “tenant” or as “firearms.” Some units appeared to be marked as both “tenant” and “firearm.”
The units marked “vacant” on the map had clearly been raided, … Most units marked as “tenant” appeared intact, though not all.
…
A building employee said they had never seen the map identifying the “firearms” units but said, “I’d like to have that myself.”
…
The building’s management company … did not answer questions about the map or apparent sticker system.

Wow, wow, wow. This has always been legally possible but the law has virtually never been enforced — and now this is the SECOND case I've heard of in the last month (first involving a person with a green card) of a noncitizen being charged for failure to carry their papers.

Border Patrol agents had been primarily focused on the U.S.-Mexico border in recent years, scouring communities along the Rio Grande and other regions for migrants in the country illegally. Now the Trump administration has tapped the agency to be a key part of its broader immigration crackdown, deploying its members to major cities across the U.S. In Chicago — hundreds of miles away from the nearest foreign border — our reporters observed how the agency’s mission has changed.

Ninth Circuit panel, on a 2-1 vote, allows Trump to deploy National Guard troops in Portland during litigation

No word on the veracity of the governments claims, but I think it's still newsworthy to report on what the admin is saying
Not long ago, I would have taken this at face value because it came from a government agency. Now, I have to wonder is this accurate or is it a way to justify violence against those who are posting on social media about ICE/CBP in their communities to alert those who might be racially profiled by ICE/CBP by calling them 'cartel scouts' The worst part is both could be true
Verily.

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/greg-bovino-immediately-flouts-chicago-court-order-lawyers-say
Earlier on Thursday, Judge Ellis gave attorneys three extra hours to depose Bovino in the case. That happened after Bovino reappeared at immigration raids on Wednesday.
The video on Thursday appears to show Bovino personally launching a canister into a crowd. Judge Ellis, who issued the restraining order, has already expressed frustration with Trump administration law enforcement potentially flouting her orders in the case.
“I live in Chicago, if folks haven’t noticed, and I’m not blind, right?” Ellis reportedly said at a hearing earlier this month. “So, I don’t live in a cave. I have a phone. I have a TV. I have a computer and I tend to get news.”
She reportedly added: “At least from what I’m seeing, I’m having serious concerns that my order’s being followed.”
DHS says that Bovino threw a chemical canister out of necessity, citing "commercial artillery shell fireworks" and rocks thrown at officers. It's true that the order makes an exception for officer safety/safety of others; the video that plaintiff attys included didn't appear to show rocks/fireworks

During a regular immigration check-in in June, Carmen was detained. Two months later, she was put on a plane with her 8-year-old son, who just completed second grade. She was headed to her home country, terrified her husband would find her.
Lawyers for Carmen along with several immigrant victims of human trafficking, domestic violence and other crimes last month sued the Trump administration in the Central District of California for detaining and deporting survivors with pending visa applications, some of whom have been granted status to stay and sometimes work.
They argue that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement implemented a policy in the early days of the administration that upended decades-long standards aimed at protecting victims with pending applications for a class of visas known as survivor-based protections.

On August 7, according to the FBI, three men in black vests entered a New York restaurant claiming to be ICE agents. Inside, they tied a worker’s hands and pulled a garbage bag over the person’s head. Another, believing the burglars’ story, surrendered themselves, only to be kicked to the ground and tied up as the intruders robbed an ATM.
…
In Bay County, Florida, the advisory says, a woman “unzipped [her] jacket and revealed a shirt that said ICE” and told her ex-boyfriend’s wife she was there to “pick her up,” before driving her to an apartment complex. The woman later escaped. In Brooklyn, it alleges, a man told a woman he was an immigration officer and “directed [her] to a nearby stairwell,” where he punched her, tried to rape her, and stole her phone before police caught him. In Raleigh, North Carolina, it claims, a man “entered [a] motel room and threatened to deport the woman if she did not have sex with him,” telling her he was a sworn officer. He showed her a business card with a badge, police said.
…
A senior ICE official tells WIRED: “Anyone caught impersonating themselves as a federal immigration agent will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Impersonating a federal immigration officer endangers public safety and erodes trust in law enforcement.”
Federal rules require immigration officers to identify themselves and state the reason for an arrest “as soon as it is practical and safe to do so.” The standard has not changed since it was codified in the 1990s, yet advocates say it is increasingly ignored. “The recent increased presence of armed, masked federal officers completely disrupts and erodes public trust in law enforcement,” says Alycia Castillo of the Texas Civil Rights Project. … “When masked federal agents conceal their identity and authority as a practice, anyone can don a mask and a gun and not be expected or required to verify their authority,”

ICE official struggles to answer questions about Abrego Garcia's potential deportation
The government is preparing to remove him to the West African nation of Liberia.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia looks on as his supporters address the press as he arrives at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Baltimore, Maryland, on August 25, 2025.A top ICE official struggled to answer questions about Kilmar Abrego Garcia's potential deportation during an evidentiary hearing on Thursday, and admitted that someone else helped draft his sworn declaration submitted in the case.
John Cantu was called to testify about why the government is not planning to deport Abrego Garcia to Costa Rica and is instead preparing to remove him to the West African nation of Liberia.
When pressed by Abrego Garcia's attorneys about the contents of the sealed declaration regarding the government's communication with Costa Rica, their client's preferred country of removal, Cantu said he did not understand parts of his declaration.

I know ICE has cloud storage contracts, I believe with both AWS (Amazon) and Microsoft, even if much of this was used for facial recognition/AI, they should still have the ability to back up important files, like evidence, to the cloud, so the 'we'd need endless hard drives' excuse seems shallow

RI judge intervenes after ICE wrongfully detains Superior Court intern
...
Multiple sources told Target 12 that Rhode Island sheriffs earlier noticed someone taking photos of the intern inside the courthouse and in Superior Court Judge McBurney’s courtroom. When approached, the individual identified himself as an ICE agent and was told to abide by standard courthouse rules, and to stop taking pictures. The intern was reportedly shaken, so McBurney offered to drive him home. ICE agents then surrounded the judge’s car and demanded everyone to exit the vehicle, threatening to smash in the windows if they did not comply.
Dana Smith, Head of Security Operations for R.I. Superior Court, confronted the agents and told both the judge and the intern to stay inside the car. After an argument, ICE confirmed they had misidentified the teen and left. The intern was released once his ID was checked.

Car crashes involving ICE have become a common occurrence amid President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
Many of these instances have been captured on video and show federal police using a tactic that has been banned in many states known as a PIT maneuver. PIT is an acronym for Precision Intervention Technique and it has been linked to 30 deaths between 2016 and 2020.
The witness in Mesa said that they had heard tires squealing and the sounds of a car accident which prompted them to investigate.
ICE has been using increasingly aggressive tactics under the Trump administration, many of which have included vehicles and the PIT maneuver. One video in California shows ICE agents appearing to intentionally crash into a suspect they were attempting to apprehend.
ICE agents often do not wear body-worn cameras and agents in the footage reviewed by the Mirror do not appear to be wearing them.

And the figures do not include arrests made by Border Patrol, which has launched aggressive immigration operations in several cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles and Charlotte, North Carolina. Border Patrol sweeps are currently underway in New Orleans.
The records also shed new light on cooperation among state and federal authorities in an operation welcomed by Louisiana’s Republican Gov. Jeff Landry. Both the FBI and Customs and Border Protection have stationed agents at the Louisiana State Analytical and Fusion Exchange, an intelligence and data sharing center that is closely following discussions on the online forum Reddit that local residents have used to exchange information about the immigration raids.
One briefing noted that some “have gone so far as to accuse agents of racially profiling Hispanic areas specifically.” Another flagged social media posts suggesting agents “are not keeping with the mission of targeting criminal immigrants only.” And a third pointed out that critics of the raids “bring up past hurricanes and the work done by immigrants” in their aftermath.

The fusion center also has tracked the tools used by protesters to foil federal immigration enforcement, highlighting social media links to whistle handouts, trainings on filming federal agents and the emergence of a hotline for reporting arrests. Previously when 404 Media covered Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officials’ use of Meta’s Ray-Bans, it wasn’t clear if the officials were using them to record raids because the recording lights were not on in any of the photos seen by 404 Media. In the new material from Charlotte, North Carolina, during the recent wave of immigration enforcement, the recording light is visibly illuminated.
That is significant because CBP says it does not allow employees to use personal recording devices. CBP told 404 Media it does not have an arrangement with Meta, indicating this official was wearing personally-sourced glasses.
...
In a statement to 404 Media, a CBP spokesperson reaffirmed that the agency does not have any contract with Meta, and said that agents cannot use personal recording devices, but can bring “personally purchased sunglasses.” The statement did not say anything about what happens if the sunglasses happen to have a camera and microphone inside of them.“CBP does not have an arrangement with Meta. The use of personal recording devices is not authorized; however, Border Patrol agents may wear personally purchased sunglasses,” the CBP spokesperson told 404 Media. “CBP utilize Go Pros mounted to helmets or body armor at times, as well as traditional DSLR handheld cameras.”

Though it resembles a typical consumer smart watch, the VeriWatch is not less restrictive than the ankle monitor. Like the ankle monitor, the wrist watch can’t be removed by the person wearing it. ICE had the option of using a removable version of the watch, according to a 2023 request for information DHS published. The agency chose a different direction; it currently only uses a watch that cannot be removed except by an ICE or authorized BI agent, according to two former DHS officials and two former BI employees.
Immigrants in the program are not told what to do with their ankle or wrist monitors in case of medical emergencies, and BI staff were not authorized to approve the removal of the monitors without first speaking to ICE, the two former BI Inc. staff recalled.
There’s not always time in emergency cases to wait for approval from ICE to cut off the monitors, the Colorado hospital workers said. One of the Colorado staff said they’re deeply concerned about how this unremovable watch will continue to impact vulnerable pregnant women.
....
Healthcare workers are not the only ones sounding the alarm over surveillance’s interference with medical care. Two former Department of Homeland Security officials told the Guardian that the lack of protocols for immigrants surveilled under ATD with exigent medical issues is a symptom of a larger issue with the way BI Inc and ICE run the program. As the Guardian previously reported, immigrants surveilled under ATD and BI Inc employees alike have long complained that the program is highly discretionary. They said that many of the decisions about how, why or how long a given person was mandated to wear an ankle monitor or a smart watch were left to individual case workers.

Despite overwhelming displays of power and intimidating rhetoric, the federal government nonetheless relies heavily on state and local collaboration to enact its mass deportation agenda. The Trump administration is therefore vulnerable to state and local policy action that goes beyond merely limiting sheriffs and police from deputizing officers to work as immigration agents. This weakness is evident in the data, which show significantly smaller jumps in arrest rates in states where advocates have most aggressively worked to reject collaboration, and much higher rates in states that have embraced it.

Judge Xinis ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s release in part bc ICE could not produce a final “order of removal” to deport him. So last night, they went out and got an immigration judge to issue one.
Now, Abrego is urging Xinis to block his redetention. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
The order issued in the article I posted prevents detention by ICE until the hearing for his requested TRO can be held
Xinis has already blocked the re-detention effort:
https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/5645972-court-blocks-immigration-officials-from-re-detaining-abrego-garcia/
This is the order referenced in the WUSA9 article that I posted but it's not the same as the TRO he's requested. Part of the condition of his release was that he check in with ICE once he was back in MD. This order by Judge Xinis was to prevent them from detaining him at that required check in before the hearing and decision on his emergency request for a TRO could take place. At least that's my understanding based on the full range of news reports I've heard here in DC
Abrego Garcia's original detention came when he reported for a required check-in at that very same Maryland office
Yep, it looks like WUSA had the story much earlier than the media I've been seeing.
It's been a very complex and complicated story from the beginning but it's also a very local story for the DC community so they work hard to make sure we can follow what's going on
Immigration arrests under the Trump administration continued to increase through mid-October, reaching rates of more than 30,000 a month. But, rather than the convicted criminals the administration has said it’s focused on, an ever-larger share of those arrests were for solely immigration violations.
In 45 states, immigration arrests more than doubled compared with the same period last year, during the Biden administration. The largest increases: There were 1,190 arrests in the District of Columbia compared with just seven last year under the Biden administration. Arrests were also more than five times higher in New Mexico, Idaho, Oregon and Virginia.

According to the FBI affidavit, the HSI agents walked up to the Jeep, displayed their badges, identified themselves as law enforcement officers and told Bamigboye that they wanted to talk about his immigration status.
Bamigboye then allegedly jumped into the Jeep’s back seat and yelled at Frazier to drive away.
One of the HSI agents got into the front seat of the Jeep in an effort to stop Frazier while Bamigboye tried to push him out and a second agent tried to pull Bamigboye out of the back seat.
Frazier allegedly put the vehicle in gear and drove off. The HSI agent “was now being involuntarily carried in the Jeep as it drove,” according to the FBI.
The HSI agent tried to put the Jeep in park, but Frazier continually pushed his hand away, allegedly threatened to crash the car and said that they were taking him to a police station.
The agent, who’s assigned to another HSI office and is in Minnesota on “temporary detail for an operation,” is unfamiliar with the Twin Cities, did not know where they were going, and “was in fear that he was being abducted.”

A former senior ICE official with knowledge of the airport program said the California office often sent several tips a day on potential arrestees at airports in the region the official worked in. The former official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal law enforcement matters, said ICE officers received the passenger’s flight number and departure time, as well as a photo of the target — sometimes just hours before the plane took off.The program is particularly effective because it allows ICE to quickly deport those who are arrested, the former official said.

Here’s how the Bovinos managed to get around the new quotas that limited how many Italians and others deemed to be “undesirables” could end up in the United States.
After Michele was naturalized in 1927, he was reunited with his wife and four children in a Pennsylvania coal-company town after their arrival on the steamship the S.S. Giuseppe Verdi, records show.
Then, the kids, including Vincenzo, 12 — Gregory Bovino’s future grandfather — automatically benefited from a “derivative citizenship” law for minors. Luigia would become a naturalized citizen.
Nearly a century later, it’s astonishing to see “a person whose grandfather was an immigrant engaging in such abhorrent and violent treatment of contemporary migrants,” Joseph Sciorra — the director of academic programs at the Calandra Italian American Institute at the City University of New York — said of Bovino.
Trump’s top aides have held up the 1924 immigration law as justification for restricting the flow of new migrants.
“You can’t help but think,” Sciorra said, “what’s going on in a person’s conscience with that kind of background and that kind of behavior.”

In each city, activists have an uphill battle learning what to do as they try to follow the federal agents around. But after months in Chicago, the journalists have a proficiency that comes with accepting you’ll spend 12 hours a day in the car and, if you’re lucky, get five minutes of footage.
That is how I found myself standing in front of a gas station, watching an SUV with out-of-state plates hide in a carwash, ready to tell a half dozen other members of the press the second the vehicle was on the move. Earlier, a photographer and I had driven by two vehicles full of federal agents and quickly U-turned to follow them. In an attempt to shake us, they blew past “do not enter” signs, drove double the speed limit, and split up. When we found them one neighborhood over, we held up our press badges, hoping they wouldn’t try to lose us again. Once they parked, we did too. We were definitely in the right spot: The neighborhood was crawling with feds.

seems like there's a video on Reddit after the altercation
https://www.vxreddit.com/r/pittsburgh/comments/1pozzrl/ice_abducted_my_neighbor_in_mt_washington/
I woke up at 8 a.m. to someone screaming.
I looked outside and saw a man who lives on my street being thrown into the back of an unmarked Dodge SUV. He’d been pepper sprayed. Neighbors tried to give him water. The agents wouldn’t allow it.
There were three unmarked cars. They had badges on their chests, but we weren’t allowed close enough to see them. When people asked them to identify themselves, they said nothing.
They rammed the back of his Tacoma with the SUV and shattered the Toyota’s window.
They didn’t identify themselves to anyone in the neighborhood. They didn’t identify themselves to the police either. I watched a cop ask, “Are you ICE?” The guy said, “Yep.” That was it.
There were at least seven cops standing around while ICE left this man pepper sprayed in the back of the car, no water, waiting for a medic. I couldn’t get a single cop to show up within an hour when my car was stolen, yet seven of them were here just standing around.
Why are our police cooperating with ICE?
I asked the cops if ICE had identified themselves. The cops said, “It’s their operation.”
This happened on my street. I’m against my tax dollars being used like this.
I tried calling one of the hotlines people have been sharing. It went straight to voicemail. I was scrambling, trying to figure out how to help in real time.
They left his wife standing in the street, shaking, no jacket. I asked if I could help. She was too frantic to answer.
That’s it. That’s how it ended.

this might be interesting to come back to from time and time again for deeper insight into ICE/Border Patrol raids
THE RAID podcast is a deep dive into the frontlines of the ICE and Border Patrol immigration raids being implemented by the Trump administration. With an expert team of journalists and community members, the ever changing landscape and stories of the “mass deportation” will be documented and broadcast. Americans will know firsthand what the raids feel like, whether they are lawful and what is happening to the people swept up by the unprecedented and ever increasing show of force.
Rather than shuttling detainees around the country to wherever detention space is available, as happens now, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement aims to speed up deportations by establishing a deliberate feeder system, the document says. Newly arrested detainees would be booked into processing sites for a few weeks before being funneled into one of seven large-scale warehouses holding 5,000 to 10,000 people each, where they would be staged for deportation.
The large warehouses would be located close to major logistics hubs in Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, Georgia and Missouri. Sixteen smaller warehouses would hold up to 1,500 people each.
...
The warehouse plan would be the next step in President Donald Trump’s campaign to detain and deport millions of immigrants, which began with a scramble to expand the nation’s immigrant detention system, the largest in the world.
...
The biggest newly proposed warehouse would hold up to 10,000 detainees in Stafford, an industrial area 40 miles south of Washington. A facility with capacity for up to 9,500 people is planned for Hutchins, near Dallas; and another with space for 9,000 in Hammond, east of Baton Rouge. Currently, ICE’s biggest facility is a makeshift tent encampment built this summer at the Fort Bliss U.S. Army base in Texas. It now holds around 3,000 people but was expected to have a capacity of 5,000 by year’s end.

The incident at an immigration court in New York rapidly circulated online and prompted the Homeland Security Department to place Mojica on administrative leave – a rare instance of such leave being publicly announced.
By the following Monday, Mojica was back on the job, without any further explanation from the agency.
A federal agent restrains the wife of a detained man from Ecuador on Sept. 25 in New York City. The agent was later placed on leave.NPR has now learned that he returned to work before the Homeland Security Department's internal watchdog had concluded a review into his behavior. The DHS Office of Inspector General ultimately decided — nearly two months later — that the incident did not merit a criminal probe.
The disclosure of the probe raises questions about the adequacy of DHS oversight mechanisms to investigate employee misconduct. It comes as the department has gutted some internal oversight agencies and faces consistent pressure from Trump officials to ramp up deportations.

What happened here for more than two months is unlike anything in recent American history: the federal government sending agents dressed for war into neighborhoods of the country’s third-largest city to arrest mostly people who look Latino and to ask questions later. To target people largely on the basis of their skin color, on the presumption that they may be in the country without documentation, or that they may have a criminal record, or an association with a gang.
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, a former history teacher, said she had never seen anything like the autumn raids in her lifetime and she believes the operation will be judged harshly.
“Historians are not going to be kind to us in this moment,” she said. “We should all be ashamed of what our country is doing in our name.”

The debate comes as immigration detentions in Maryland, as in the rest of the country, have surged in the past year under President Donald Trump. Data from the Prison Policy Initiative showed the more than 3,000 people in Maryland were arrested this year by Immigration and Customs Enforcement: 1,193 from Jan. 20, when Trump was inaugurated, through May 20, and another 1,940 from May 21 to Oct. 15.
The 287(g) program was first established in 1996, but it has gained more attention, and more scrutiny, since Trump returned to office. Versions of the program include allowing local officials to execute administrative immigration warrants in their jails, identifying and beginning removal proceedings against individuals arrested by local law enforcement, and serving on task forces that officers “enforce limited immigration authority.”
Five sheriff’s departments in Maryland – Allegany, Carroll, Garrett, St. Mary’s and Washington counties – signed 287(g) this year. Frederick, Cecil and Harford counties already had agreements in place. All the Maryland agreements are limited to the counties’ jails: If a local department determines that someone they arrested is undocumented, it will hold that inmate for an additional 48 hours for ICE to come get them
Still, advocates said the program incentives racial profiling, especially of Latinos.
There are just a lot of wild details here that shed some insights on immigration agents
https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/12/30/chicago-immigration-citizen-arrests-charges/
Moriarty, an attorney, said the agents “had no idea what they were doing” and failed to pat down the trio, read their rights, take fingerprints or render medical aid. “It was complete incompetence,” she said, a charge echoed by people arrested in other contexts across Chicago, amid broader criticism by policing experts that agents’ poor tactics needlessly risked everyone’s safety.
One U.S. citizen who was detained told the Tribune that agents expressed conspiracy theories and right-wing propaganda, telling her that they believed drug cartels were sending people across the border and that someone was paying protesters to oppose the government. The agents drove her from Broadview toward an FBI facility in Lombard — before they received a phone call instructing them to turn around and take her back to Broadview.
Others told the Tribune agents asked questions about where they were born, if they were in a gang, or if they were paid to protest. Many told the Tribune that after they were released from the Broadview facility, agents dropped them off at a gas station.
...
Agents eventually detained Sakiyama near his daughter’s elementary school, prompting administrators to put the building in a more secured status. Sakiyama said he was with the agents for about an hour, most of the time sitting in the parked van outside the Broadview processing facility, before they dropped him back off at his car with a ticket for allegedly impeding their efforts. While he was with them, Sakiyama said, he saw the agents receiving texts in a group chat labeled “Chiraq Team 2.”

To further attract recruits, the strategy called for spending at least $8 million on deals with online influencers whose followers are largely Gen Z and millennials and who were in the “military families,” “fitness” and “tactical/lifestyle enthusiast communities.”
The document did not name specific influencers but said it would focus on “former agents, veterans and pro-ICE creators” who would be expected to host live streams, attend events and post short- and long-form videos and other content to Facebook, Instagram, Rumble, X and YouTube. Blogs, Substack newsletters and Threads accounts would also be targeted for more “niche communities,” the document said.
The objective, it said, is to build trust through “authentic peer-to-peer messaging” and to “normalize and humanize careers at ICE through storytelling and lived experiences.” The document said it expected more than 5,000 applicants would come through the influencer program, costing ICE about $1,500 per application.

In a scathing 52-page order, Northern District of California Judge Trina Thompson found that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem did not go through the proper federal procedures to end the designations for Temporary Protected Status for those three nations [Honduras, Nepal and Nicaragua].
“‘The President is not above the law,’” Thompson, nominated by former President Joe Biden, wrote in her order. “Neither are his cabinet officials. The Administrative Procedures Act ensures government accountability by making agencies transparent, require public participation, setting fair rulemaking standards, and allowing courts to review actions for legality and rationality.”

Rather than hosting the database on a centralized website, which they fear would be vulnerable to subpoenas and takedown orders, the group put their findings out through the InterPlanetary File System, or IPFS, a decentralized, peer-to-peer method of file distribution.
The database is built around community submissions of photos of ICE vehicles in action. Once the images come in, volunteers vet each picture to confirm that the plate and vehicle in question are being used by agents. The activist who spoke with The Intercept declined to go into detail about how the volunteers vet the information but said that every plate listed publicly in the database has appeared in at least two sightings.
“The reason we’re confident in what we released is that we have probably twice as many plates as what was published, but we made a decision to only publish those plates that had at least two observations,” the activist said. “And while we’re confident in the rest of the database, this was an extra measure to reduce confusion and inaccuracies. We want people to feel like they can trust what we’re publishing, and we don’t want to accidentally cause harm by releasing inaccurate information.”

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is proposing a new rule that would authorize collection of any form of biometric information or samples from anyone, including US citizens, “encountered” by USCIS or “associated with” any applicant for admission to the US, US residency, or US citizenship.
The proposed rule would give USCIS blanket authority, at its discretion, to order any such individual to report to any location worldwide specified by USCIS, and to submit to collection of facial images (“digital image, specifically for facial recognition”), fingerprints, palm prints, iris scans, retinal scans, voice prints, and/or DNA samples.
Underlying the proposal is an implicit but impermissible assumption that merely to “associate” with foreigners is sufficiently suspicious to create probable cause for a search.

The impact of these trends has not been felt evenly across the city. Deportations are concentrated in outer-borough neighborhoods which have large immigrant populations, lower household incomes, and limited access to legal services, according to the report. For residents in the Queens neighborhoods of Corona, Richmond Hill, and Jamaica, advocates have reported intensified ICE activity in 2025, including home arrests, courthouse pickups, and targeted operations in immigrant-dense areas.
In ZIP codes with the highest number of deportations, particularly Corona and South Richmond Hill, the majority of people deported from January to November 2025 were Ecuadorian or Indian nationals, according to Mobile Pathways.

Officials said U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commander Gregory Bovino, who has overseen controversial immigration roundups in Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte and New Orleans, is expected to arrive in Minnesota to help lead immigration enforcement efforts, along with an unknown number of U.S. Border Patrol personnel.
The deployment, which began Sunday, represents one of the largest concentrations of DHS personnel in an American city in recent years. The move greatly expands the federal law enforcement footprint in Minnesota at a time of heightened political and community tension there.
According to senior law enforcement officials, the surge includes several hundred additional agents from Homeland Security Investigations, as well as hundreds of officers from ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations, which carries out immigration arrests and deportations. Tactical units known as Special Response Teams are also slated to be part of the operation, along with a layered command structure of dozens of high-ranking supervisors.

The full text of the agreement also shows the data promised to ICE included more granular data than previously reported, such as patients’ banking “routing number, account type, account number.”
“Access to this information will allow ICE to receive information concerning the identity and location of aliens in the United States, such as address, telephone number, banking information (routing number, account type, account number), email address, internet protocol (IP) addresses, or other information relevant to identifying and locating aliens in the United States,” the agreement reads.
...
At the end of December, a judge ruled that the Trump administration could resume sharing much of the data after it had been blocked from doing so, Politico reported. That means ICE can use Medicaid data in deportation cases starting Tuesday, Politico added.Under a section called “description of the data that may be disclosed,” the agreement says that data includes “Medicaid recipients: Name, address, assigned Medicaid identification number, social security number (SSN), date of birth, sex, phone number, locality, ethnicity and race.” The data allowed to be given to ICE under the new ruling is slightly narrower than that, and includes citizenship, immigration status, address, phone number, date of birth, and Medicaid ID, and is limited to people living unlawfully in the U.S., Politico reported.

The decision came in response to a video by conservative influencer Nick Sortor, who filmed as he entered the hotel late Jan. 5 and presented himself as a Department of Homeland Security employee looking for a room. He then confirmed with a front desk worker that the hotel was not allowing any federal officers who conduct immigration enforcement to enter the property.
According to the worker in the video, the policy was still in effect hours after the management company, Everpeak Hospitality, issued a statement Monday apologizing and saying it’s “committed to welcoming all guests.”
“We’re not accepting people from immigration, ICE agents, DHS, into our property,” the worker says in the video. “I just talked to the owner of the building, and he didn’t say there had been any changes.”

I have been trying to figure out what to post here about ICE activity today in the Minneapolis / St. Paul metro. It is just •batshit• out there.
Some admin mucky-muck is in town today (Noem, I think?), and ICE is putting on a full We Are A Big Fascist Deal theater show. The result of this is chaos: ICE caravans all over, vulnerable people terrified, less-vulnerable residents dropping their work to keep watch on the streets.
ICE has been harassing residents and lawful observers unusually aggressively yesterday and today. They walk up to random cars with window-smashing tools in hand and say threatening things. They slow-drive by people’s houses in a “we know where you live” kind of way. They detain people — completely illegally, completely unconstitutionally, of course — but that will mater later and their big photo op matters •now•.
…
What do I want you to know, watching from far away?
I want you to know that if you are not hearing about ICE swarming all the hell over my city, you are not hearing the actual news.
I want you to know that if all you see is video of ICE marching off Very Dangerous Criminals in an orderly and authoritative way, you are not hearing the actual news.
I want you to know that these turds act tough, but run away • every • time • they think too many people are watching or there might be video.
The vibe is not even the sort of “excessive show of force” vibe you get when militarized law enforcement goes off the rails and starts rioting. (I live in Minneapolis. I’m quite familiar with what •that• looks like.)
This is more like…hundreds of high school gym bullies get all hopped up on Red Bull and decided to take daddy’s SUV on a joy ride to randomly kidnap the first brown person they can corner…but only if nobody’s watching.

Mayor spotted on scene
11:08 a.m. A witness to Wednesday’s shooting in south Minneapolis told MPR News that she saw a federal agent shoot a woman several times.
Emily Heller lives near 33rd and Portland and said she woke up to a commotion outside her home. She said she saw a car blocking traffic on Portland Avenue that appeared to be part of a protest against federal law enforcement operations.
Heller said she heard ICE agents telling the driver, a woman, to “get out of here.”
“She was trying to turn around, and the ICE agent was in front of her car, and he pulled out a gun and put it right in — like, his midriff was on her bumper — and he reached across the hood of the car and shot her in the face like three, four times,” Heller said.
Heller said it appeared the woman then accelerated and traveled about 100 feet before striking a utility pole and some other vehicles. She could be seen slumped over inside her car.

Kristi Noem calls it an attack of 'Domestic Terrorism'
Currently on live stream speaking from Texas
I missed half of what she was saying - was she referring to the ICE shooting? Or to the woman "attacking" ICE agents (that was the only part I heard)
very obvious imo from those that there was no chance of the woman actually attacking the ICE agent (i.e. running them over with her car)
Her statement here: https://youtu.be/GPVpHDyOXCM?si=UFxN4y5w_GCwBULn
Kristi Noem, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, called the woman's actions leading up to her fatal shooting in Minneapolis Wednesday morning "an act of domestic terrorism."
I think Noem was referring to the woman "attacking" the ICE agent and she then further down the narrative of ICE agents being under attack every day
okay now from the entire clip posted by @silent spire its getting clearer to me too, thanks
Its this- full blame on the victim
"To ICE - get the fuck out off Minneapolis" (Jacob Frey, Mayor of Minneapolis) might be the most impactful quote of that press conference
Not a legal expert- Noem referred to the incident as "The woman attacked them" yet the victim was idle and was being instructed to move by the agents- if this false narrative is pushed there is visable evidence of this not being the case
The officers were saying "get out of the car" and attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle
Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism.
They are also claiming the victim is deceased- has this been confirmed?
This was said in the mayor/police press conference, yes.
Thank you wanted to confirm
Note not attempting to dox anyone, but can someone do a supercut of both videos.

ICE officers are trained to never approach a vehicle from the front and instead to approach in a “tactical L” 90-degree angle to prevent injury or cross-fire, a senior Department of Homeland Security official told NBC News.
Officers are also instructed not to shoot at a moving vehicle and only to use force if there is an immediate risk of serious injury or death, the official said.
ICE officers are also instructed that firing at a vehicle will not make it stop moving in the direction of the officer.

Videos Contradict Trump Administration Account of ICE Shooting in Minneapolis
Good morning from the Whipple building, where protesters have blocked one the driveways into the ICE facility. Agents are in the parking lot getting ready for the day as protesters yell “ICE out now” and “murderers” at them.
Status Coup videojournalist is LIVE Outside ICE headquarters in Minneapolis as hundreds of protests are gathered in the aftermath of an ICE agent killing 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good to protest ICE and Trump. Looks like a protester is already detained this morning
Just saw BORTAC in the video (Border Patrol version SWAT team) - federal govt really is bringing the full force of immigration enforcement down in Minnesota
this is very well done: straightforward analysis that explains the incident clearly
Does anyone know if there was bodycam?
the officer who shot Good was apparently filming on his phone, not sure of anything else
No, but there is this.
I posted about the ice agent had the camera app on his phone open after the shooting...
#1371571764525535242 message
And the NY times analysis confirms that he was filming before hand
federal agents deployed tear gas
Do you know if there's any ability for people to get hold of that footage through a foi request or something?
one of the protesters getting dragged by federal agents few moments ago
apparently that wasn't tear gas
update: no that was tear gas
Regarding that, I noticed this after watching the NY Times video and then went back and did a frame-by-frame analysis of the video from the 2nd angle which shows the shooting
Right before the shooting he is holding his phone in his left hand, and then pulls out the firearm from his right side
Then compare it to the other video angle posted here around the 25 second mark. (Unfortunately don't' have the ability to go frame-by-frame on that one at moment but just a rough screenshot for reference after the shooting and you can see the agent still holding his phone in his left hand.

I think (have to do this from memory rn) as he walks towardfs the crashed car he moves to put it away, but I'm not sure he actually does. And he definitely has it in his hand (again) as he walks back and we see the camera app is on.
Looks to me at the start he is in a kind of video stand-off with the woman who was following him.
I kind of hoped that would have had a preview, the headline is "Minnesota governor says he is preparing National Guard amid furor over fatal ICE shooting"
great... a counter-protester agitating people shouting "We're taking our country back!"
Some phrases he keeps on repeating
"This is conquered land!"
"We need patriots here - we need backup here!"
"Patriots, get to Minnesota"
Dude is litterally goose-stepping
it was so painful 😱
there's a person (woman?) in a white beanie who can be seen running towards the crashed car before anyone else in one of the videos. she appears to have been filming the agent who shot as he went counterclockwise around the car. could this be the victim's wife?
Genuine question, what are they actually doing there? Why is ice at a protest?
ice has taken it as their mission to restore 'public order' by force
there have been a number of statements by trump and noem which amount to 'the democrats won't stop crime, so we will'

It would be extremely interesting to see the footage from the shooter's phone. The way he walked out in front of her car just as the other officer was trying to get into her car and she was backing up, it is quite possible that she didn't see him at all.

BCA statement regarding investigation of ICE fatal shooting in Minneapolis
Jan. 8, 2026
A statement from Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans:
On Jan. 7, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) was notified that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel were involved in a shooting in Minneapolis that resulted in a woman’s death. That morning, after consultation with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI, it was decided that the BCA Force Investigations Unit would conduct a joint investigation with the FBI. The BCA responded promptly to the scene and began coordinating investigative work in good faith.
Later that afternoon, the FBI informed the BCA that the U.S. Attorney’s Office had reversed course: the investigation would now be led solely by the FBI, and the BCA would no longer have access to the case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation. "

remember that in the other video the car passes him, so from this angle he's obscured by the car. he disappears from sight because he deliberately moved around to the front driver window to keep shooting
Whether or not it shows the agent being hit or by how much of the vehicle he was struck by is a point of contention. The quality of the video is of low quality. As others have noted, the Minnesota Reformer video shows that the agent's feet were on the ground and not in front of the vehicle when the first shot is fired through the right side of the front windshield (close to the edge, which is another indication of his position IMO).
Just a reminder that we want the discussion to focus on what we can prove through open source methods, as that's what this server is about
i think we can pretty safely say as fact that he was not severely struck. at worst he got clipped in the side by the corner of the hood going, like, five? but he didn't show any signs of injury afterwards, no limp or anything
I just want to add this article that highlights DHS policy on firing into moving vehicles
https://www.fox9.com/news/can-ice-agents-shoot-moving-vehicles-yes-no
and i wouldn't even say the contention is if the agent was struck, but rather if the driver was trying to ram the agent which. Uh.
Right right
Like @lament salmon pointed out, the NYT vid is a good breakdown of the available visual evidence.
worth noting that this case is a textbook example of exactly those dangers posed by shooting at a moving vehicle, and the agent avoided serious injury largely because of the actions of the driver, causing the vehicle to level with the road before the driver presumably lost consciousness or died with the gas depressed, instead of that happening with the car heading straight for the agent
Well, that, and whether the shooter was intentionally placing himself in front of the car before it started moving, so he would have an excuse to shoot. It sure looks that way to me, since he stops right in front of it with his hand on his gun, while the other agents clearly don't consider the car to be any danger, merely an obstruction.
Yeah, it is interesting that some qualify the work of the NYT as great OSINT (https://www.nytimes.com/video/us/100000010631041/minneapolis-ice-shooting-video.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share) but really this is proto-101 OSINT, this video was already circulating widely yesterday, was published before by CNN, and doesn't require any "analysis", it's plain murder in broad day light. I'd personally be more interested in using tools like PimEyes (i tried, no luck), to identify the ICEagent, or fact-finding that isn't readily available to anyone not even trying.
What it shows though is that the US is in such an advanced stage of post-truth that fact-finding has little effect. And as an OSINT community, we should probably mull that over.
A general reminder to everyone to avoid speculation.
It would seem the women he has the "video standoff" with is the same woman seated in the snow wailing after the victims death seen in the video from the other side of the road from the porch in which the person filming seems to hear her say that she was the victims wife. In the CNN video posted recently we see her go to open the passenger door of the victims car just before the victim drives off.
^ @obtuse hare
From all the footage that is circulating I think we can pretty much rule out that the driver was trying to ram.
Lets say the hypothesis is that the driver was trying to ram the agent: In that case she could have either
a) done that while the agent was literally in front of her car or
b) "at least" not pull the steering wheel to the right while the agent was to her left
I honestly don't see a plausible case to be made in which intention could be involved. The driver did literally the least plausible thing(s) if she were trying to ram
(sorry if I am overexplaining or this is consensus anyways, just my attempt at reasoning from the info we have)
yes, the driver's last living act was to pull the car away from the agent
i haven't seen any discussion of the running person even though they're the first person on the scene, and given their placement on the passenger's side of the car, near the shooter whom the victim's wife was apparently recording, it seems plausible
Another rep signs on to impeach Noem https://www.threads.com/@repstansbury/post/DTQkVq0kdmP
This video from yesterday with Goods Van in the background shows two officers laughing It’s disgusting.
the moment the purported victims wife goes to open the door (but can't as the doors are locked) at the same moment as the officer tries to open the drivers side door. can't distinguish it here but the shooter is just next to the yellowish headlight.
Spoilers for graphic content, please.
It's a little hard to tell, but it seems like in the video taken from the balcony above the scene, you can just barely see the officer's phone in his hand as he walks towards the crashed car. There's a moment where it looks like he's maybe looking down at it, but that could also be him trying not to slip on the ice. Hard to tell.

The video attached to the Truth Social post is a grainy 13-second-long clip that is slowed down. It appears to be captured from above ground — possibly from a balcony or upstairs window — and a large tree blocks most of the frame. The footage is filmed facing the passenger side of Good’s car, and an ICE agent is near the driver’s-side headlight. As Good’s car pulls away and shots are fired, the ICE agent moves with the car, but it’s not clear whether he is hit by the vehicle or if he is reacting to it moving.
There is no shortage of footage and photos from the scene of the killing, but the specific video shared by Trump has become the smoking gun for the far right. Megyn Kelly shared versions of the same clip at least a dozen times on X, and the Libs of TikTok account described it as “the video the Democrats don’t want you to see!” Even in the president’s own social media post, the clip has the watermark of a local TV station. The clip is low quality compared to other videos from the incident to begin with, but as it is reshared, screen recorded, edited, slowed down, cropped, and zoomed in, it begins to take on a deep-fried quality — but no matter. In an era of hyper-partisan media that bleeds into propaganda, where X users earnestly tag the nonconsensual deepfake porn generator to ask if a claim is true, MAGA needs some piece of evidence to point to as incontrovertible proof. They found it in a short video with an obstructed view of the killing.

responding to myself 😅 but the reason i couldn't find the agent on Pimeyes seems to be because his face was AI manipulated https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c1lzvyjm3vet?post=asset%3Ae0cd87ae-cc87-4101-a36a-8afcd5686500#post. Damn, I should have trusted my instinct, because i remember thinking that he looked quite different on 2 pictures (i didn't have all 6 here), but then i was looking at the hair implant and i was like 'naah, it is the same guy'. now i see all 6, clearly there are some where he looks totally different, much younger. So lesson learnt. i should have done frame by frame analysis of all videos rather than trust the images dished around. As a reminder of the included link THERE IS NO FOOTAGE AVAILABLE OF THE ICE AGENT WITHOUT HIS MASK. (for now).
One of the things that I feel missing from the NYT analysis and from the Bellingcat video (with birds-eye diagram) is the time before the shooting. This video clearly shows which vehicle the shooter drives away in (about 2 minutes after the shooting). A Gold Chevy Tahoe - MN EVC289. It is the same vehicle that was positioned in "front" (SE on Portaland Ave) of the victim's. In footage before the incident the shooter is seen walking around the victim's vehicle, as the Bellingcat video illustrates.
The NYT video shows some clips from still another video of a source I don't know. It shows that before the incident, EVC289 is not in the position it later was. Then, there is a quick clip that seems to show that EVC289 driving slowly towards the victim's vehicle.
What I would like to know is the course of EVC289 and on what timeline in relation to the shooting. It seems that one possibility from this limited info is that the shooter positioned EVC289 to block the victim's car, then got out and walked around it taking video from his phone, then walked around to the front of the victim's car; simultaneously other officers (in a truck) drove up and walked towards the driver side.

-# Bellingcat (@bellingcat.com)
Using imagery online of the shooting by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, we’ve created an animated sequence which highlights the approximate positioning of officers and vehicles at the scene. The red dot represents the agent who fired the shots. Yellow dots are other agents who arrived at the scene.
It looks like BlueSky is deleting the posts sharing the AI inferences of the shooter’s face, but in the images being initially shared (the ones in this screenshot which someone is using to bypass detection/ removal of the AI images) you could tell it was AI as the face was rendered at a different resolution from the rest of the image. Beyond that, the lighting around the eyebrows defies the lighting in the rest of the image in origin, intensity, and hue.
Mainly what I'm getting at here is that while a lot of analysis rightly focuses on the moments around the shooting, analysis around the minutes leading up to it may indicate that the agents coordinated to box the victim in. It seems that the Gold Chevy Tahoe (MN EVC289) was positioned only minutes before the shooting, and that it arrived there from the NW - and drove around it to park on the opposite side.

Prosecutors said he was violently dragged more than 100 yards as the suspect weaved back and forth in an attempt to shake him loose from the car.
The agent was hospitalized with “significant injuries to his arm and hand,” requiring 33 stitches, but made a full recovery, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement at the time. Hi all - I tried using Meta's Segment Anything to process the front-view shooting video, segmenting out the car and the officer who fired. Let me know if anyone has a higher-res version of this video or another that you want me to try
Is it the segmenting or the original video compression that makes the car glitch into reality like a bad AI hallucination?
which timestamp?
Just as it starts coming out from behind the other car, it looks really weird.
I think the base video should not be modified, there's just a segmentation mask effect applied on top. So probably it is the blue car mask itself jittering a little? Not sure
here is the original video I used:
Oh, wait. Ok, it's not quite as bad as I thought, I misinterpreted the rearview mirror of the front car, I thought it was a reflection of some kind on the car in the rear.
Ah. And the open driver side door on the car in front also makes it look really weird.
For anyone who wants to try it, here's a link and screenshots showing my process. It's really simple, just selecting objects over time, and at the end you can apply different filters to create a final video like the one I sent
https://sam2.metademolab.com/demo
So, a combination of weird angles, video compression, and jittery segmenting. 🙂
Yeah - I think the video compression / resolution is a real problem with this one
An important missing piece here is the audio indicating when shots were fired
Pretty sure I saw some news site that had a double-view video with this one and the hi-res YouTube video side by side, and synched up.
Would be great to form a synced version of all videos, I think I've only seen 3 views so far of the shooting
Here's the video posted by Axios Twin Cities, which obtained it directly from a witness. Unless he also provided it/uploaded it elsewhere, this might be the highest quality version.
A really important factor in interpreting that video is that it was taken from very far away with lots of digital zoom. This adds both lots of artifacting, and the high zoom compresses/foreshortens distances. This makes objects seem much closer to each other (in the axis pointed at the camera) than they actually are.
I can see him being pushed back by the car hitting him somewhere around the left thigh/groin area, which also fits with the contact visible in the other angle video (https://youtu.be/K9CJY5p0xz4?si=hMpdWa1sAEBUy550&t=15 timestamped 15 seconds). In this other video go frame by frame using , and . keys look for the point at 15 seconds that his gun is raised, and then go forward 1 frame at a time, you see the gun move down as the car pushes him, and simultaneously his left foot is knocked back and into view

good find. to me it seemed that he could've easily moved from in front of the car in the time he took to draw his weapon. also, i was wondering if the ICE agents wearing masks could be used by prosecution to counter the argument that she should have complied with the commands given by the officers. the prosecution can say that she was afraid and not sure if the ICE agents were actual officers if they didn't properly identify themselves.

Tense scene earlier this afternoon as protesters follow Border Control Commander Greg Bovino and his caravan around in Minneapolis. At one point, Commander Bovino tussled with a protester, both slipping in the snow.
#Minneapolis: Barricades have been put up by community members to create an autonomous grieving zone on the block that Renee Good was killed by federal agent Jonathan Ross yesterday. At least one protest is planned for tonight and healing circles are happening.
Does anyone know what's happening at 34 seconds in on the left of the video?
I'm seeing this image of Good going around, but haven't seen a video with this angle. Is it a real frame or AI (I hate that I have to ask this question now)
AI
It's a snip from a larger AI image that had an officer with "ICE" on his back. There were no officers in the area with that kind of kit at the time of the incident.
Looks very different imo https://meidasnews.com/.image/t_share/MjIwNDQwODY5MzU2OTcxODg1/trump-rene-good.jpg
One tip I've found for detecting AI is to zoom in and look for straight lines in colour delineation. It's a bit more difficult in photos, but it's there and it's extremely clear in AI art.
Yeah it seemed too high res and the textures looked off. And if we had footage from that close it would have been shown everywhere.
I was given to understand her partner was in the passenger seat, so unless they were leaning forward out of frame of that particualr photo, I'd say it's unlikely that was taken at the time of the incident, if it's real at all.
Having trouble finding the larger image, but there were multiple blatant errors.
Note that her partner was not in the vehicle during the incident, she is the one that is behind the car using her phone to film and engaging the shooter prior to the incident. from the CNN video taken afar from the other side of the road you can see her attempt to open the passenger door but can not as the doors are locked (thus why the officer neither can open the driver side door at the same moment)
Yeah it would help to see any potential bodycam footage to properly hear what they said to her - they do seem to be in full uniform
I made a 3-way synced video here of the MN shooting. Slightly compressed.
There do not appear to be any body cams on the officers in any of the closer up footage.
Regarding the path the agent who fired. Can someone update it with the Security cam footage from across the street that CNN posted

JD Vance just claimed the federal officer has 'Absolute Immunity' which is flat out wrong.
"The Supremacy Clause does give federal officials some protections from state laws, but they “only appl[y] when federal officials are reasonably acting within the bounds of their lawful federal duties,” according to a position paper issued by the University of Wisconsin Law School. Shooting an unarmed person who is in the process of fleeing a scene would be unlawful, and while DHS would certainly contest that in court, that’s a wholly proper venue for the debate."

“The source that informed me of this said the Border Patrol officer in question claimed the victims were trying to run him over in their car, which is why he shot.”
Update from Evans below this post: “I am being told by a separate reliable source that at least one victim is hospitalized currently. They are not in custody.
After shooting, the ICE or CBP officer (still unclear) "fled the scene".
https://bsky.app/profile/iwriteok.bsky.social/post/3mbx67j5dpc2d
Wait, the CBP OFFICER fled the scene?
He said it’s still unclear
My reading of that is that its unclear if it was CBP or ICE, but he's quoting someone saying whoever they were fled the scene?
...can someone with a twitter check if this post was just deleted?
Yeah its gone

the FBI said CBP and now that post has been deleted. wtaf is going on
Just confusion immediately after the fact, adrenaline, etc. I wouldn't read too much into it.
Especially with all these agencies. People don't always know who's who and if the FBI just copied what they heard, and they just realised it wasn't CPB for instance...
I'd expect more from the FBI I suppose, but maybe I shouldn't

Would someone do me a favour and ping me when/if the press conference happens?
KATU is updating here: https://katu.com/news/local/ice-shoots-two-people-in-portlandoregon
“Portland police said their officers were called to 102nd and Southeast Main Street at about 2:20 p.m., where they said they confirmed federal agents were involved in a shooting. They said they were not involved in the shooting.
…
A man at the scene told KATU he saw the the wounded man stopped in a vehicle and bleeding.”
Its not a pepper spray, it looks like its a pepper bullet. They do have the potential to do serious permanent damage.
anything new from @FBIPortland on twitter?
You can use xcancel.com if you wanna search @FBIportland acct but so far no.
Per @iwriteok via Bsky: “KATU reporting says that Portland Police responded to a report about the shooting and found the two victims. Which suggests the CBP agent who fired was not still on scene, either bc he fled or bc the victims somehow got away while injured.”
Replaced previous message w more measured one
Just a heads up, looks like local news is reporting that their is two crime scenes.
But looks like to me that portland andy is filming from the 2nd scene.

One agent is helping another agent (with a big can of pepper spray) get up from the ground. I'd guess he had just tripped or slipped when the shooting started, but in other videos where you see more of them, it didn't appear to be anything special.
At 2:19 PST, US Border Patrol agents were conducting a targeted vehicle stop in Portland, Oregon. The passenger of the vehicle and target is a Venezuelan illegal alien affiliated with the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting in
I have issues with this part. He is clearly not right in front of the car yet. There is another video that shows him by the driver side door of his car for a few seconds, probably right around this time.
Ah thanks for analyzing, let me take a look.
another "weaponised vehicle"
I believe the shooting officer is hidden behind the car in the frame you sent, and surrounding frames
Hang on, let me find the video I mean. I see you have him moving to the driver side of his own car, but the way I remember it, he actually stays there for a few seconds, before moving out in front of the victim's car.
i think he's behind that blue circle I drew
Ah, here we go. https://edition.cnn.com/2026/01/08/us/video/minnesota-shooting-ice-video-before-shooting-digvid
Newly-obtained surveillance footage shows the minutes leading up to the fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman on Wednesday. The video shows that the vehicle driven by 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was stationary and sideways across the road for about three minutes before the fatal confrontation.
You'd think they would have learned not to stand in front of vehicles now, especially not if they are super certain that there are extra evil villains driving the car...
They're supposedly trained not to.
Don't want to dive too much into the weeds, and I know it's hard to tell from the angle. But IMO, it appears that the officer walked in front of the car closer then what is mapped out
I'm pretty sure I was trained not to walk in front of cars with a driver in when I was about 6 but I suppose that's off topic.
Yeah let's post news, thanks
Should be possible to calculate, it can't have been more than a few feet, the car had only moved about 4 feet forward when the first shot was fired, I think.
With that said, not exactly related to the current incidents. But I noticed that the CBP Use of Force Policy has been going around in circles after the shooting as it looks like its one of the first things which comes up when you search google for it.
But looking at the URL, does anyone know what exhibit the URL is referencing?
Someone from a different server said that there are rumours of ICE operating near lakeline in Austin. Does anyone have any info on thia?
It would also be interesting with some best estimates of bullet trajectories and where the bystanders were at the time, because, yikes...
Oh, not sure if I missed it, or they added it recently, but in here is the full length video from the angle in my latest crayon art screenshot, showing the victim's car sitting in the street for over three minutes, and various cars driving past.

Given the situation, I'm assuming this is what people might be referring to?
CBP guidelines also forbid approaching a car from head-on, they're supposed to take a 90° angle for safety
and shooting the driver of a moving vehicle, because, you know, that's not going to stop it
OP means, what does "exhibit 9" refer to, and what else might be associated with it, etc. I googled around, and didn't find much, only that PDF.
Also, maybe this is perfectly "normal", I haven't paid all that much attention to ICE before this, but these three (apart from the tactical vest on the last one) look very much like I would expect a "professional agitator" to look, and not a whole lot like a federal agent. Something to keep an eye on when analyzing other ICE videos.
are these guys supposed to be DHS??
Was a bit of a rough positioning with the first three vids available yesterday. CNN vid from today helped clarify that the ICE shooter went to the Gold/White Tahoe DHS vehicle that was in front of Good's vehicle before crossing in front of her vehicle toward the other DHS agents when they tried to open her door. By the time she starts pulling forward he's mostly across her front and closer to the driver's side headlight/side of the vehicle. to answer your question, ICE uniforms seemingly aren't standardized and are, uncharitably, cobbled together from aftermarket military (or military-looking) tactical gear
i've seen ICE agents with night vision equipment for broad daylight operations, for instance, and just about the only constant is military camo that only makes them stick out in an urban setting
Ah, yes, that looks much better. Thank you. 🙂
these guys in the photo are uniquely underdressed though, they genuinely look like masked vagrants. usually there's at least POLICE ICE in big letters somewhere
As I never tire of pointing out when it comes to russian "uniforms", the very meaning of the word is that everyone looks the same... 🙂
How would you prove this using open source methods?
I ask because we need everyone to understand what "no speculation" means on our server. See #faq 6 - people come here for the best discussion!
Everyone should absolutely read all the FAQs, by the way
Crossmatch against other videos, see if people who appear to be protesters in one video are obviously (like, carrying guns/pepper spray, or getting in or out of ICE cars) agents in other videos. I'm also reminded of Israeli tactics, where there are often agents dressed as protestors, who will suddenly converge and drag someone off. (In several rather egregious examples also shooting the victim in the leg at point-blank range, but that's for another channel.)
Ah okay I thought you wanted to prove they were professional agitators.
Ah, apologies. It was not intended as speculation, but literally just something to keep an eye out for.
The first one isn't carrying a camera, that's most likely a pepper spray.
The second one, coming out of the car, has a holstered pistol.
I know there's been issues getting bodycams for ice, I wonder if the hiring spree means they just straight up do not have the equipment?
How would you prove this using open source research methods? See my post from about 10 minutes ago.
Entirely possible, but the first two don't have ANY kind of marking. But maybe they weren't expecting to be active here, and left their tactical vests with the markings in the cars.
I found this article for you https://www.fox9.com/news/some-ice-agents-wear-body-cameras-but-not-everywhere
(I dug out these images because someone on Bluesky said that every single agent on the scene was clearly marked with what agency they belong to. I countered that several were completely unmarked and barely any of them said ICE.)
ahh I see! Yeah looks like I downloaded the old Bellingcat video instead of the new animation
I had found this directive while Googling and this is what's cited in the article. Source: ICE | U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (.gov) https://share.google/4Ms8lEu4dZ7pVnFBm
I used that link because it's a PDF.
However, in August of 2025, they issued this update: https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ice-announces-updated-policy-body-worn-cameras
"Although this policy establishes requirements for the use of BWCs, ICE currently does not have the resources to issues cameras to all ICE law enforcement personnel. ICE will begin deploying BWCs that have been procured to date to Enforcement and Removal Office (ERO) officers and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) investigators in select locations in the coming months. Once personnel are issued BWCs, they will be subject to the policy."

Regarding the security cam footage and the synchronization map that has been created. Just noticed something of note. If you watch the video of the shooting which I posted yesterday after the shooting took place you will see that the agent who opened fire gets into the gold Chevy Tahoe that leaves the scene (unfortunately the video doesn’t clearly show if he’s driving the vehicle or in the front passenger seat.
Additionally the car makes a 5 point turn in order to leave.
I believe that's part of how they identified him. The same vehicle was seen in footage of his previous accident.
Edit: I tried to find a reference, but failed. I read it earlier today.
There’s more to that, in hindsight they were playing it loose with that info. IIRC,Kristi Nemo references a previous incident. And also saw this tweet from Musk which makes a lot more sense .
https://x.com/elonmusk/status/2009303200315175031?s=46&t=0qAvqb6FOvZFc7eoZBKfXw
@thatsKAIZEN The same ICE agent was almost killed several months ago by a guy that hit him with a car and dragged him hundreds of feet
how they identified the shooter, you mean?
maybe the vehicles do match but that isn't necessary, the identity of the shooter was indirectly given up by the administration itself. Noem and Vance said that the very same agent had been in said car-dragging incident six months back, and there is exactly one ICE agent fitting that description, whose name was present in hospital records and court filings from exactly that incident
startribune says flat-out they cross-correlated him by noem's mention of him being dragged, and looked through the court cases
yeah, i believe to be specific the first mention was by noem and the killer was already identified by the time vance repeated that talking point
Also final thought of the night.
In the security camera footage that CNN posted they state that the car Good was driving was angled onto the street for a couple of minutes before the shooting took place as agents “mill around it”. However, the important question is how long was the Gold Chevy Tahoe parked, unfortunately I haven’t seen the full security camera footage posted, only the short segment that CNN has posted…

Regarding Avelo Air, noticed something after checking the company's Wikipedia page, regarding their current fleet. Their article states that the airline currently has 8 Boeing 737-700s in service with a note that 6 of them are going to leave the fleet referencing to this Aviation Week article. posted on 1/7/26.

https://aviationweek.com/air-transport/airports-networks/avelo-close-three-bases-streamline-fleet-after-recapitalization
Which is a interesting coincidence considering this story posted on December 10 from the Washington Post regarding DHS signing a contract worth about $140 million to aquire six Boeing 737s for deportations.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2025/12/10/dhs-deport-boeing-contract/
After retrenching from the U.S. West Coast last year, Avelo Airlines is further consolidating its operations, shuttering three bases and shrinking its fleet.
The agency will spend nearly $140 million to buy the planes, funding that comes from a massive budget increase for immigration enforcement approved by Congress.
Avelo Airlines, Inc. () is an American ultra low-cost airline headquartered in Houston, Texas. It previously operated charter flights as Casino Express Airlines and Xtra Airways before transitioning to scheduled operations and rebranding as Avelo Airlines on April 8, 2021. The airline's first scheduled flight under the Avelo name was on April 28...

Some questions about the Grey/White Tahoe, just ahead of (or to the right of) Good's vehicle.
- Is it confirmed to be a DHS vehicle?
- Is there information as to how it came to be positioned ahead of Good's vehicle on the road?
Such as, was it blocking Good's path, and she positioned her own vehicle go around it once a path was clear? Or, without speculating about intentions, was the Tahoe already in that position, or near that position, prior to Good's vehicle coming behind (or to the left of) it? Or, was Good's vehicle originally parked blocking a lane of travel, and the Tahoe was backed up into that position? Did the two vehicles arrive in those positions near in time, or for how long was one vehicle stationary in its position before the arrival of the second?
I think the video in this item could help you: #1371571764525535242 message
The White/Grey/Gold(?) Tahoe appears to have been a DHS vehicle, yes. The CNN video that Subtle pointed to shows that the shooter goes into the driver's side door before crossing in front of Good's vehicle immediately before the shooting (this wasn't clear when we only had the three original videos to look at). In the Minnesota Reformer video, I believe the Tahoe is also the vehicle that the shooter leaves in.
A few minutes into the video, it shows the repositioning of the vehicles. First, Good's vehicle dropping off a passenger, then moving into the lane of travel. Then, the DHS vehicle passes along the right shoulder, behind Good's vehicle, and (the video is cut just prior to showing) is parked in its position ahead of (to the right of) Good's.
Edit: it is not clear if the vehicle passing on the shoulder is the same DHS vehicle eventually positioned ahead of Good's. At 3:00 - 3:20 of the video in this item #1371571764525535242 message , Anderson Cooper is narrating while the video shows Good's vehicle being positioned prior to the shooting. That sequence of clips shows a white vehicle passing along the shoulder. That might be a white pickup truck, not the DHS vehicle. At 3:40, Cooper adds "four minutes in all from start to finish." If a four minute uncut video of the sequence exists, it would provide a lot of context.
Yep, if you watch the entire video that I posted, it shows him leaving the scene in the Tahoe. Unfortunately I couldn’t tell if he’s driving or riding shotgun, but that is the car that he left the scene in.
Also regarding the Tahoe, has anyone checked the court records regarding the previous incident the agent was involved in to see if it mentions the same vehicle and whether or not he was driving it.

ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who shot and killed an unarmed civilian, flew a don't-tread-on-me Gadsden flag at his house, per the Daily Mail.
If you scroll down a little bit in this article, the full length video is available. https://edition.cnn.com/2026/01/07/us/minneapolis-shooting-ice-video-analysis-vis
It is extremely frustrating that CNN cuts that up and doesn't release the entire video, because it would likely prove exaclt what I am getting at here : #1371571764525535242 message
Edit: Thank you @jagged tide ! You posted it just as I was posting :)

See my post just before yours. 🙂
Also, regarding the discussion about how the admin played it loose with his info, from the same article.
Federal officials defend the agent without identifying him
Vice President JD Vance praised the agent’s service to the country Thursday without naming him, saying the ICE officer “deserves a debt of gratitude.”“This is a guy who’s actually done a very, very important job for the United States of America,” Vance said. “He’s been assaulted. He’s been attacked. He’s been injured because of it.”
DHS assistant Tricia McLaughlin declined to confirm the agent’s identity Thursday, saying doing so would be dangerous for the safety of him and his family. But she noted that he had been selected for ICE’s special response team, which includes a 30-hour tryout and additional training on specialized skills such as breaching techniques, perimeter control, hostage rescue and firearms.
“He acted according to his training,” she said. “This officer is a longtime ICE officer who has been serving his country his entire life.”
Does that training include stepping out in front of moving vehicles? Because he does it twice. Once when he first gets out of his car, then he takes a loop around the victim's car (putting a lie to all the "He had no idea who was driving!"), gets back to his own car, and then walks out in front of the victim's car again.
The video also shows a total of eleven cars (including the Tahoe) passing the victim's car before the shooting. So while she was certainly blocking one of the lanes much of the time, it was clearly possible for other cars to get past the whole time.
I don't know who's created the geolocated birds-eye view for Bellingcat, but it would be phenomenal to include these previous minutes because it 1) clearly debunks the notion that Good's vehicle blocked anyone in and 2) demonstrates that Ross positioned his vehicle just before the shooting such that she was hemmed in.

WATCH: New video shows circumstances leading up to fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis, filmed by agent in front of the car
Oh wow. That puts a lie to pretty much every "official" narrative there has been.
Spoilers for sensitive materials, please.
Completely clear how she moves the steering wheel that she isn't driving towards him. He saw that.
I’m sorry I forgot how to do on iPhone - I’ll remove
anyone also hear at the end of the video the expletive "**cking *itch" ?
I removed the embed but kept the link
Thank you - as a reminder you can force a URL embed to be spoilered by putting two pipes (| | no space) around the URL.
E shot faster than she had a chance to drive. Did someone measure the time
Yeah ice agent very clearly says "fucking bitch" after shooting her
I was hoping someone with the ability to compare did so. It seems to me the cellphone video is slightly edited right as the cellphone jerks. EDIT TO ADD: OK, the video below seems like that is not the case.
5 vid sync with the new vid
How did AlphaNews obtain this video ? as it's taken by his own phone thus I would think be in the possession of the FBI or whatever authority investigating this
Can you compare when he pulled his gun to the talking?
pulls his gun at timecode 00:00:40:13 in the sync video
which should be essentially the same timestamp in the AlphaNews vid
Here is the actual tweet, the post is referring to

BREAKING: Alpha News has obtained cellphone footage showing perspective of federal agent at center of ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis
he pulls his gun after she can be clearly seen turning the wheel away from him and the other officers. EDIT: to be fully accurate while she is turning the wheel in that direction at the point he pulls the gun the wheels possibly only just come back to straight. But, from the motion of the car, she clearly continues to turn the wheel as she pulls forwards.
Also, that’s from the officer view. So that confirms my suspicion that he was filming the entire time.
I like the "federal agent at center of ICE-involved shooting" phrasing. Very neutral...
has it been said why ICE agents use their cell phones to record rather than use a bodycam?
In the previous video, the gun pull happened in the middle of the wheels moving from left to right, with the wheel spin and gun pull at about the same time. I think, depending on precise timing, this could mean he formed the intent to pull the gun because he saw she was about to leave, not because he was threatened.
Somone posted a link maybe 17 hours ago in this channel, about how the bodycams are being rolled out to various units.
And in this new video, you can see her turning the wheel over while the car is still moving backwards. Which he could plainly see.
The biggest issue here besides the fatality is Agent Ross putting himself in harms way, intentionally.
By and large, Law Enforcement personnel cannot put themselves in harms way for the sake of doing it. Generally, internal policies, state that there must be some type of threat. This is outlined in the DHS Use of Force (UoF) § on fleeting subjects. It specifically states that agents cannot shoot at vehicles fleeing unless there’s immediate threat to life of others including fellow LEO.
However, internal policies and I might be able to find case law, further prohibit putting themselves in that danger to create that situation.
One of the biggest challenges in this case is that the Supreme Court recently ruled that this is a lower courts issue (Barnes v. Felix 2025 https://www.investigatetv.com/2025/10/24/unanimous-us-supreme-court-ruling-could-change-police-force-cases-nationwide/#).
All of the footage, including the new footage from himself SHOW that he put himself in a precarious position by stepping in front of a vehicle. She reversed and attempted to go around as the agents were getting more aggressive. Had she hit him, knocked him down and ran him over we’d be looking at a similar case of Braden Peters ("Clavicular", Kick) in Florida. But the difference in this case is an agent of the law, coupled with conflicting commands for her to “leave” and “step out of the car”.
Looking for a good quality original version of the view from the left side of the vehicle.
We live in strange times. (no I didn't IA this , its from the video )
Also, he drove the car that boxed Good's car in.
On Wednesday, January 7th, we stopped to support our neighbors. We had whistles. They had guns.
Regarding the policy, DOJ, CBP (and many others) have explicit policy against blocking a vehicle with your body, but DHS policy I've seen so far seems more vague.
Prior military and history of rash decisions, preconceived ideas are not off the table.
Also, take this with a grain of salt but going to have to throw some "flags" onto this video.
Don't know if it's AI or the actual footage, but it's definitely been edited and isn' the full one.
Two important things I noted when watching the video, which makes me believe that it has to be edited and isn't the actual video.
- Not an expert but the gunshots sound much fainter then it should be considering he shoots from his right hand and is holding the phone in his left as I've posted earlier.
- Video cuts way too early before the crash occurs, it's possible that is where he stopped the video but that's really interesting considering my previous post from going frame by frame as the camera app is open on his phone
#1371571764525535242 message
It's real:
https://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/76109
before I watch this, is there uh. Gore? is it bloody?
Dosen't show much and the gun is really faint, might be peaking the mic but didnt' see any blood.
Edit: no visual only audio of the shooting
how does this video even... exist? it's the agents, yes? how in the world was it obtained?
okay so it doesn't show the victim with gunshot wounds, yeah?
Camera is looking up at sky
No but it’s upsetting. Their dog was in the car.
Give me a second, I'm more refering to after the shooting took place, if you watch the full video I posted the other day.
I know people have been focusing on the events before the shooting, but that one shows a lot of interesting info post shooting.
I was just showing his reflection that shared the hand he held the phone in etc
Ah, sorry, just wanted to clairfy that the exact post I linked to was after the shooting took place. There are other ones that show the same thing before but in that one I was able to get a look at what was on his phone screen.
The quiet audio of the shots could be clipping or some other artifact of the cell phone software.
True, but it dosen't explain the video cutting before the crash
My bad, it is actually using the front camera. Appears to be in selfie mode here, for some reason.
phone cameras are not exactly designed to adequately record the sounds of gunshots
You’re right this is the best they got and they don’t have anything that I can find, unless internal, about “Officer-Created Jeopardy”.
“DHS LEOs are prohibited from discharging firearms at the operator of a moving vehicle, vessel, aircraft, or other conveyance unless the use of deadly force against the operator is justified under the standards articulated elsewhere in this policy. 9 Before using deadly force under these circumstances, the LEO must take into consideration the hazards that may be posed to law enforcement and innocent bystanders by an out-of-control conveyance.” (https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/publications/mgmt/law-enforcement/mgmt-dir_044-05-department-policy-on-the-use-of-force.pdf)
It's interesting how clear it is in the composite video that it is four shots, not three which is what I've heard in all the separate videos.
You can hear the crash. The phone was pointed at the ground. No way to know if he stopped filming there or if it's just part, but that is not the same as altering the footage.
Didn't catch that, but it still brings up the point regarding the aftermath.
we don't necessarily know if the shooter was still recording after that clip cuts
we see his phone is open to the camera app in the SHAME video, but the camera app shows a preview of the camera view regardless of if recording is active
on an iPhone at least, there's a difference in the camera app when recording video:
when not recording, the record button is a red circle.
when recording, the red circle is instead a square.
is the SHAME video clear enough to show such a distinction?
And can we see enough of the bottom of the screen?
watching it again, it's pretty clear (to me at least) that the sounds of gunshots that close to the phone blow out its microphone
around the 1:00 mark in the Minnesota Reformer video, hard to tell but looks more like the full circle to me vs. a red square:
I really want to know how many milliseconds between the gun draw and the tire spin. Unfortunately the precise moment of the draw is obscured, but his hand seems to already be on the gun based on his visible elbow position.
Because the tire spin is the first possible moment he could have perceived danger. Human reaction time of 150-200 ms. Someone needs to measure it but there's a good chance you can prove that he drew the gun before any forward movement of the vehicle. But I don't have a good download of that angle (yt-dlp and xdownload both can't find media in the tweet I've been using). So I can't frame-by frame it and measure.
And other versions of the video I've found so fare have been processed, are lower resolution or frame rate, and are more blurry.
Another reminder from the FAQ:
The mods are saying “no speculation”. What’s the detailed explanation?
“Speculation” on a server dedicated to open-source research includes things that cannot be known through open-source methods. If you have to talk to a witness, consult an expert, or make an educated guess, that’s speculation.
This is in addition to things like reading “body language”, commenting on the way any person reacts to a traumatic experience, examining handwriting, commenting on the state of mind of a person (eg, “they’re acting like [diagnosis]), or your own feelings (“this isn’t adding up!”).
People come to our server to see the latest reliable information, and the above discussion points should be kept to the rest of the Internet. We are absolutely fine with having very little to report as we wait for new facts to surface.
Might be able to give you hand on one of those, here is the "shame" video that I happend to download in order to go frame by frame to get his phone the other day.
Thanks for the reminder of rules: I deleted a message that speculated on the reason the video was leaked.
