@deft remnant and @prime relic 's challenges are back!
This image was captured by Landsat 8, a satellite that orbits the Earth every 99 minutes.
It captures images in multiple bands of the electromagnetic spectrum. Here, you just see the visible light bands, which are the ones that are most similar to what the human eye sees.
But where was Landsat-8 looking when it captured this image?
What is the name of the archipelago in this image?
You can use this thread to discuss the methods you used to find the answer and ask for help!
Please make sure to spoil any of your answers so others can continue to work on the challenge.

TIL there is an island named after Landsat satellite
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landsat_Island
Landsat Island is a small, uninhabited island located at approximately 60°10'37"N 64°02'30"W, 20 kilometres (12 mi) off the northeast coast of Labrador (part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador). It was discovered in 1976 during the analysis of imagery from the Landsat 1 satellite. The island is only 25 by 45 metres (82 ft × 14...

I should have made it this one! 🛰 🏝
it would have been hilarious ngl
Thank you for challenge! There is ||Mayotte|| island from ||Comoros archipelago||. (||12°50′35″S 45°8′18″E||)
||https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayotte||
|| Google lens gave an exact match, Mayotte island ||
I can't find a thread for the second image so I'll ask here. There are two questions. I assume the second one is from an older challenge right? We need to answer the first
we will set up a thread for the second image tomorrow, but the question in bold should always be the one to answer.

Got it. Thanks!
First of all, thank you for the new challenges! I've been checking every day lol
I was able to get ||Mayotte Island|| quickly via ||google lens||.
Also thank you for the new challenges. Never done satellite searching so a new skill for me.
I'm fundamentally lazy so thought I'd try || Perplexity.|| Initially it gave wrong answers - easy to check on || Google Earth ||. When I told it that it was wrong and gave more description and asked for more suggestions the first was the correct answer!
By the way I think that the correct geographical name for this archipelago is ||Comoro Islands||
Hello! I've created a writeup detailing two different approaches to solve this challenge. It might give you some insight if you were only able to identify it through reverse image searching. You can read it here: https://medium.com/@dam_coffee/bellingcat-challenge-take-you-to-the-beach-1db6c1808cf8.
