#Israel-Palestine 2023 War News

Below is a post by the twitter account Geoconfirmed with information of a potential war crime committed in the Zeitoun district of Gaza City. Be warned that both the details of the incident and the video showing it are pretty gruesome and will thus be spoilered.
||A woman waving a white flag was shot while crossing the street with her children and a crowd of other locals. The reasons for opening fire are not known for certain, nor his her ultimate conditions (whether she survived). There is speculation (also made by Geoconfirmed) that this was likely perpetrated by the IDF, but I stress that this is pure speculation and without good information on the circumstances of this incident it is impossible to yet determine who is responsible. ||

See the logo here. It’s part of the Hamas Al-Qassam Brigades.

Nice find 🙂
“Command of the Military Industrialization Corner”, that explains the cog and the flask.
I assume it’s like Hamas’s rocket development branch?
Or sorry. I thought I saw a rocket behind the flask.
No, but there are rockets in the pics beside the logo. It’s a good theory.
Yeah, engineering and weapons production.
Here are a couple of links talking about about those engineers who Israel killed a couple of years ago (The Meir Amit Center has ties to the Israeli intelligence community. I don’t know what the 2nd source is)

With utmost pride and honor, the Islamic Resistance announces the martyrdom of Ali Hussein Burji, known as "Abo Mahdi", from the town of Markaba in southern Lebanon, who attained martyrdom on the path to [liberate] Al-Quds.
The Guardian is reporting that Burji was the commander of Hezbollah "aerial" (read: drones) forces, though they seem to be referring to Israeli reports so not entirely sure tbh

The first available visual evidence verified by The Post of Israeli security forces came about 4 p.m., when they were photographed removing surveillance footage from Awad Odeh’s home and handing it to Border Police officers.
Police said they arrested a 22-year-old resident of the Esh Kodesh area on Nov. 7 on suspicion of murder. A person with knowledge of the case, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, told The Post the arrest was linked to the Oct. 11 attack.
The 22-year-old was held for about 20 minutes of questioning and then released on a restraining order prohibiting him from going to two Palestinian villages and from contacting 22 individuals, according to local media reports and confirmed by The Post.

Gotcha gotcha, has there been many previous videos of Hamas definitively using tunnels for rocket manufacturing?
If what the IDF probe says is true, it appears to be a freak accident with the engineers at the wrong place at the wrong time
If nothing else it demonstrates how extraordinarily risky urban operations are even for the side with superior technology
isn't that what does the shocktube (and the detonating cords) supposedly prevent @fair magnet
Half an hour before the detonation was supposed to be carried out, a tank stationed next to the detonating cord fired a shell at a nearby building after identifying suspicious movement. According to the probe, the detonating cord was somehow activated as a result of the blast from the tank shelling, and led to the premature massive explosion of the tunnel system while the combat engineers were still working on preparing it for demolition.
No. The shock tube is just the initiation method they've been filmed using for their demo. All the videos I've seen is one shock tube to initiate the demo of several buildings. So they are using the shock tube to set off the blasting cap that triggers the lines of detonating cord that span several buildings/blocks. If they weren't doing such long lines of detonating cord, and using shock tube to detonate buildings 1 or 2 at a time that could have prevented this. But some of the videos have shown them using one shock tube to detonate a long block or buildings meaning they had placed a pretty long branch of det cord. Additionally, you're supposed to only attach the branching lines of det cord to the main line at the very end of the setup as you work your way back to where the blasting cap is going to be attached to minimize risk. Unknown if they did this and it just occured during this step, or if they were taking shortcuts.
Ohhhh, thank you!
Shock tube, while filled with explosives is a really minor amount and just triggers the blasting cap and intiates detonating cord. Detonating cord is actually explosive and can be used to breach doors, blow down trees to clear an area, etc. A common thing the IDF is doing is using landmines as their main explosive charges. They fill the fuzewell with C4 and det cord and then tie it into a longer line of det cord, which is then triggered by the shock tube to start the detonation. I'll try to find the good recent video that shows most of their setup, but here's video that shows some. https://vxtwitter.com/MOSSADil/status/1744069819912102223?s=20

hezbollah:
The broadcasting authority in the Zionist entity and the military spokesperson of the "Israeli" occupation army claimed the assassination of what they called, at times, the responsible for the UAV unit in Hezbollah or, at other times, the responsible for the aerial force.
The media relations of Hezbollah categorically deny this baseless claim, asserting that the brother fighter, the responsible for the UAV unit in Hezbollah, has not been subjected to any assassination attempt, as the enemy falsely claimed.
Not seeing her name pop up in any other news reporting -- if anyone finds another mention of this from another source, could you please share it here? Quds News Network is affiliated with Hamas and, again, I'm not seeing anyone else pick up this reporting yet
Thank you!
the name is written wrong in english. its Heba al-Abadla
A warning about this source as well, Al Mayadeen is Hezbollah affiliated, and described as "pro-Hezbollah" and "pro-Assad" by the AP, the Telegraph, France 24 and other sources. According to a Lebanese journalist, it is a joint venture between the Iranians and Assad's cousin. Beyond QNN (Hamas affiliated), Al Mayadeen (Hezbollah/Assad/Iran affiliated) and IRNA (Iranian state news), there seems to no other reporting on this yet, so I'd like to urge caution.
This evening, it was revealed that 55 citizens were martyred in the occupation’s bombing of several homes by Aaibat al-Astal in the western line of Khan Yunis. Among the martyrs were journalist Heba al-Abadla, her daughter Judy, her mother, and her maternal uncles.

So? That's not discredit the news shared by them. I don't think we need suspicous about someone killed by the israeli army. since they already killed 20k+ innocent people.
Probably wise to be cautious, that's all.
Yes, definitely wise, as Giancarlo said.
and you are missing huge part. the source is ITIC, a israeli source. which is a pro israeli and gov related. which is something discredits the RUSI report
On 10 October 2005, the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center issued a special bulletin concerning the extensive use of the internet by terrorist groups to spread disinformation, disseminate propaganda, incite violence and send operational orders to cells.
According to the centre, one of the main internet sites supporting Hamas' political aims is www.palestine-info.net.
For those only reading here to be informed it's good to know when there's a claim, when there's no alternative article.
I don't think anyone is trying to discredit it, especially considering the high number of journalists killed. It's just important not to give the impression that a particular source is trustworthy or neutral in general. Especially for newcomers here who don't know their way around yet.
The mods have always asked users to highlight when the source they are posting is suspect. I have no doubt that this incident may be true, but it must be highlighted that the only sources claiming it are Hamas affiliated, Hezbollah affiliated or Iran affiliated. There's plenty of Palestinian and Arab sources that are credible, they need to report on it.

(Note that this is an older tweet)
4 days old is not that old- the men are still dead. Thought people might be interested to know these 3 journalists were killed by Israeli strikes.
Just wanted to highlight that since this is the breaking news channel, so people tend to assume that the things posted here are breaking news.
What is Bellingcat's timeframe perameters for "breaking news" ? Put that in a pinned post if you think 4 days is too old for Breaking News. The channel is labeled "Israel-Palestine 2023 War News" so I think a 4 day old tweet about 3 killed journalists is appropriate.
I recommend putting "breaking news" in the channel title.
Information from 4 days ago is appropriate for this channel, but helpful to note that the information was posted 4 days ago incase there had been an update (e.g another journalist was found dead from that particular day with their identity revealed at a later date etc) . More contextual information about date of posting is always useful to have.
First glance, I think is from here: 31.418622454, 34.3700778009
Could you edit this please to add a little introduction/explanation?
Al Qassam Brigades announce that they are going to provide an update to the status of 3 of the Israeli captives who appeared in a recent video addressing the Israeli government
From the Al Jazeera article:
In the new recording, the Al-Qassam Brigades raises three possibilities regarding those detained in the Gaza Strip:
The first possibility: “Were they all killed?” The second possibility: “Some of them were killed and others were injured.” The third possibility: “They are still alive.”
They are treating the hostages like a sick gameshow, it seems.
Tbat is not at all my impression of that portion. My impression from the video is that Qassam were stating that an air attack had hit their location but that they were still trying to figure out whether they died or survived and were injured.
Anyway we shouldn't speculate here
I never speculated?
I just said it was sick to issue a statement that more or less reads "they may be dead, they may be alive, tune in tommorrow to find out."
Let's hope these hostages are alive.
The two men, Yossi Sharabi and Itay Svirsky are dead, Noa Argamani is badly injured but alive.
This is getting confusing. The video is evidently saying they are uncertain of the hostages condition and will update tomorrow on whether they survived the air attack? Is that an accurate summary?
Yesterday's Hamas video asked people to guess whether they were all dead, all alive or if some were dead/others alive.
In today's video, they say that the two male hostages are dead, and the female hostage is seriously injured but alive.
The video is in Arabic?
Arabic, Hebrew and English.
The first video ends with "What do you think?"
I see. Yeah the vibe of the video feels almost taunting in a way, at the very least seems styled to cause a "rise" in Israeli viewers.
Or well, to clarify, the video is spoken in Hebrew (because Noa Argamani is Israeli, of course), with Arabic and English subtitles.
According to Noa's words, which are ultimately Hama's words, because she's a hostage, they allege there was an airstrike, Yossi was killed in that, two days later, they were moved, Itay was killed then, Noa got shrapnel in her head, and has obviously healed in the video (so we can assume it's at least a period since then).
So I don't think it's an accurate summary to say they were "uncertain of their condition." They knew they were dead, and posting that video was just done to taunt people as you said.
What I was saying was that I didn't read it as taunting. Regardless, the chronology of this piece of news is confusing. AJ reported it as breaking news but it seems that they already announced two deaths yesterday?
No, they released the "What do you think" video yesterday, they released the "they are dead" video 1 hour ago.
Thanks for clarifying
So they knew they were dead when the first video went out, it was just taunting as @short yacht said.
Treating their status as a sick guessing game.
There is no shortage of dehumanization from all sectors in this situation
Certainly, this channel is a good place to highlight it.

AFAIK this pattern of explosion fits IDF's MO when destroying tunnels using explosives by its bomb squads. See this for reference.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-1J4a_etEw
The Israeli army releases footage showing what it says is the identification and destruction of a Hamas tunnel in the northern Gaza Strip. Fighting between Israel and Hamas is raging in the besieged Gaza Strip, triggered by the Palestinian militant group's unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7 that left 1,140 people dead, mostly civilians,...
At 0:52 - those buildings look like schools, and you can see those buildings being demolished in controlled detonations, even if tunnels were destroyed at the same time, there is no reason to assume that destruction of tunnels required blowing up those schools.
Are you a demolition expert? because assuming that when a tunnel explodes the buildings directly above it collapse into a crater is pretty well documented in this war. It's literally collateral damage.
Not a demolition expert. From the video it is obvious that this is a controlled demolition of buildings [possibly together with destruction of tunnels, though this I can not say for sure].
At 0:53.000 I can see lines of light from what I assume is a detcord [shock tube?] detonation, and later there are shock waves that suggest surface level detonations, and just the uniformity of detonation of those [school?] buildings.
@fair magnet can you share your thoughts/judgement?
also worth highlighting - if you're exploding a tunnel you're exploding a lot more than just the tunnels so you will have both surface and subsurface blast waves
That's definitely some surface laid det cord, it's such a minor amount of explosives you definitely wouldn't see it underground. You can also see some of those blasts clearly originate in the buildings, and you wouldn't expect to see much if any of a fireball if it was below ground.
I don't know why they'd lay surface det cord if they had access to the entire tunnel system, so it might be one tunnel they gained access too plus a few other disconnected entrances/systems. They might be just blowing up entire buildings that they find tunnel access in, along with whatever part of the tunnel they can access.
I can also totally see how they had that demolition accident if they are doing that big of areas linked by det cord, instead of doing 3-4 smaller independent detonations.

No verification from Qassam(hamas) so far. they just published this weeks summary.
During the past week, the Qassam mujahideen were able to completely or partially destroy 68 military vehicles. Our mujahideen confirmed that they killed 53 Zionist soldiers from scratch, sniped 9 soldiers, and killed and wounded dozens in 57 different military missions, during which the invading Zionist forces were targeted with missiles, anti-fortified devices, individuals, and weapons. Also, 4 houses were blown up, and two entrances to tunnels and a minefield were blown up among enemy soldiers. Our mujahideen shot down two Skylark reconnaissance planes and seized 8 drones, including two suicide planes. They destroyed military concentrations with mortar shells and short-range missiles on all fronts of the fighting. They directed missile attacks with different ranges at the Zionist entity
The only event today related to helicopter is from the Mujahideen Movement. They released a video of shooting a SAM(probably a MANPADS) against a helicopter. And helicopter uses flares. (no visible sign of hit)

... "Although they didn't perform an autopsy on him after death," says Sherman, "but they did a CT scan, they examined him from all directions, and they didn't find any injuries - there were no gunshot or stab wounds." In a post she published on Facebook, she accuses the IDF of killing her son with poisonous gas that was poured into a tunnel to eliminate senior Hamas leader Ahmed Randour
... But two weeks later, it was discovered that there were no signs that Ron had been murdered by the terrorists, as the family had been told. "A pathologist came to us. I'm not sure how this message is related the message you replied. They are not mentioning anything related to recognizing israel or two state solution
So the first translation is wrong. He says "we do not accept the term two-state solution, because it means you are given a 'promised' state in exchange for recognizing the legitimacy of the other state, the Zionist entity".
This is exactly what their position has been since 2017, which is a fully sovereign state along the '67 borders.
"From the river to the sea" does not mean '67 borders, it means pre-'48 borders (i.e. the entire land)
(this is the "war news" channel, maybeb should move the unrelated discussion to DM or #israel-palestine)
I see your point, but the Khaled Mashal interview is recent, is directly related to this war, and wasn't posted here before, so i thought it's newsworthy.

As much as 80% of Hamas’s vast warren of tunnels under Gaza remains intact after weeks of Israeli efforts to destroy them, U.S. and Israeli officials said, hampering Israel’s central war aims.
U.S. and Israeli officials have had difficulty precisely assessing the level of destruction of the tunnels, in part because they can’t say for certain how many miles of tunnels exist. The officials from both countries estimate 20% to 40% of the tunnels have been damaged or rendered inoperable, U.S. officials said, much of that in northern Gaza.
Might be just wishful thinking by Al Mayadeen. Israeli officials said on multiple occasions that it wants full control over security arrangements which de facto means control over the border with Egypt, through which 99.99% of arms proliferation happens.

honestly, america ran the 3rd longest superbowl most likely while this was happening? can anyone do a time line comparison?
Israel runs Super Bowl ad campaign to highlight captives in Gaza - attack was launched at 2 in the night, superbowl came on at 1;30 and ran till 5? 3rd longest superbowl in its history, the more you distract the mass media, people etc
We don’t have a channel for that kind of speculation in this server, I’m afraid.
thanks i did message a moderator
I have seen the first videos and there are high casualties, mostly children
It's speculation but I agree, also the videos that came out are often using the # Superbowl and Taylor Swift to reach Americans.
Superbowl ads can be sold out months in advance. Planning an operation like this months out just to wait for an ad, where the operation could go wrong or the hostages could be moved doesn't make sense. https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/super-bowl-commercials-sold-out-cbs-tv-advertising-1235777413/
I think not the ad but the bombing
Also - the Super Bowl running long is something that Israel has no control over (well unless you're into certain types of conspiracy theories)
Americans don't need the superbowl to ignore the plight of folks in Gaza

The fancy graphics aren't working for me, so I'm a little lost. Is there actually an exit from the tunnel that leads into the hospital? I know it ran under the hospital, but presumably if Hamas was using Al-Shifa as a command center then they would have a way to actually get into the hospital? The article mentions the "shack" but I don't really understand what that means. Was the shack used by the hospital for something or is it, like, an abandoned building of some sort?
Referencing the image above:
The "stairs to surface" is inside the hospital complex territory, under a shack/garage right near the wall surrounding the complex.
No entrances to the tunnel from the "surgery building above tunnel" have been shown [it would have been shown if such entrance existed - good propaganda value].
The "dead end" looked to be a place where construction of the tunnel have stopped at some point [a possible alternative explanation - it was intentionally caved in - but this is very unlikely, I think].
The "tunnel extends from here" goes outside the hospital complex territory.
No entrance to the hospital, the shack is at the edge of the medical complex, it doesn't say in the original article how it was used. This are just recycled news with a 3d animation of the NYT
OK, I understand. Thank you both.
Keep in mind that Hamas tunnels often take their electricity from the buildings above.
We knew this "tunnel extens from here"-part existed, it is visible in the videos they shared.
And we have this: https://twitter.com/fdov21/status/1727772011001221555 - geolocation for a video where the spox says one direction of the tunnel extends to al-shifa.
This is the best available view (at ~ 6:10) inside that "tunnel extends here" https://fxtwitter.com/IDF/status/1727409278636478519
Dear world, is this enough proof for you?
There is also a 360 video on youtube. You can move the picture around with the mouse.
Oh, I have not seen this one, it is better.
Still struggling to find information about what became of the bunker under Al Shifa hospital, touted by former PM Barak but not seemingly apparent in any of the images and videos after the hospital's siege and destruction. Was it cemented over or...?
From the NYT article above:
Was there ever any reporting that the tunnels under Al-Shifa were connected to any larger tunnel network? I keep seeing these reports of 500km-750km of tunnels under Gaza, but we've seen a total of maybe 50m at various sites.
The "tunnel extends from here" on this image #1160132507472244839 message
goes outside the hospital territory.
Thanks - I hadn't seen the non-paywalled copy. The NYT piece makes the claim I mentioned (350-450 miles of tunnels).
It appears they're saying that they moved very slowly due to booby traps... still surprised they didn't even send a drone or something down that "tunnel extends from here" section. (or they are keeping that classified for now)
The NYT said that it extended from there, but evidence of that (which they viewed) is classified
There is a possibility that the tunnel was not actually connected to a wider network, even though it extended outside the hospital territory. That may be an alternative explanation of why there is no released footage for that segment of the tunnel. Though I do not think this is very likely.
It's also plausible that the reports refer to the total expected length of all tunnels, not that they're connected as one massive network.
All the miles long estimates I've seen have referred to estimate of total tunnels in all of Gaza, not one connected network
This is how I've always understood that figure.
Yep. The new info in this piece is some classified files that showed that the tunnel extended considerably further into Gaza City, beyond what was previously known.
And yes 350-450mi is all tunnels dug in all of Gaza. There have been tunnels dug for decades to smuggle goods and bypass the blockade, along with the high-profile Hamas tunnels used for military/whatever reasons.
I've forgotten most of it by now but I did a lot of reading in November-ish about this, and there are fascinating stories about how Hamas taxed tunnels, how they were built with a sort of pyramid scheme system among families (put in a lot of start-up capital, then hope to make your money back in fees paid by smugglers), and huge internal dissent about how Hamas tried to exert financial controls over these private tunnels. Exotic birds were a big thing being smuggled. One story I remember reading is how they got a car through the tunnel system -- it was too big to bring in all at once, so they split it into three parts, then re-welded it together once it came through Gaza.
It really does sound like the sophistication of El Chapo's tunnels...
Was there anything in your research regarding the building of bomb shelters underneath Gaza?

"The U.S. has provided roughly 21,000 precision-guided munitions to Israel since the start of the war, and Israel has used roughly half of those. According to a U.S. intelligence assessment, the remaining weapons are enough for Israel to sustain 19 more weeks of fighting in Gaza."
So roughly 552 precision guided munitions being used a week according to this assessment, but that doesn't include unguided munitions/dumb bombs.
Built by whom? Not really a lot.
I believe on this server there were a few examples of footage of "tunnel entrances" in homes that did not appear to go anywhere, and some speculation that these were built as air raid shelters.
That’s surprising. Strong union action.

The IDF published data on the activities of the Israeli Air Force throughout the war with Hamas in Gaza, stating that its aircrafts attacked more than 31,000 targets in all the arenas - with about 29,000 in the Gaza Strip. About 1,100 of the targets attacked were in Lebanon in the north. In total, the IAF flew over 186,000 flight hours.
Approximately 26,000 attacks were carried out using fighter jets, another 3,800 using helicopter gunships and some 3,800 attacks were carried out with UAVs. Approximately 7,000 were "flash" attacks – immediate attacks at the request of the ground forces.

The video says:
-A great pride, the tractor is reaching the last furrow.
-Fields all the way to the sea - we are now launching the process. Until victory. Until victory. Sowing fields instead of fences.
-The image of victory. Returning from Gaza after plowing the Gaza fields. This is the way to bring security to the State of Israel.

Graphic Warning. The video of the US soldier setting himself on fire in front of the Israelian Embassy is now shared unblurred.
Also worth posting this on the spillover channel
No one should watch it, even the blurred version. And if you think you have to, turn the audio off.
Description of the video of Aaron Bushnell's self-immolation:
||Approaching the embassy he said "I am an active duty member of the United States Air Force, and I will no longer be complicit in genocide. I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest. But compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers - it's not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal."||
||Standing in front of the embassy, he poured fuel on his head from a thermos, put himself on fire, and screamed "Free Palestine" between screams of agony. He stood upright for 40 seconds while on fire before falling on the ground unconscious.||
||Police/security guards started putting fires out after ~1 minute of burning. It took some time.||
||One guard, likely in shock, have been keeping Aaron Bushnell at a gunpoint until the very end.||

All you need to do is enter in the username and hit search.
That being said, I do have some issues with the way that the site displays it results, as it is a bit unorganized, doesn't give timestamps to when the comment was made, and I’m not 100% certain that the website has archived all of his comments.

Yeah that's why the "reputable reporting" thing is important
https://old.reddit.com/user/acebush1
This shows the comments that the new reddit UI shows as deleted
It's mostly about that: Personal Name -> Twitch UID. Anyway all seems plausible.
The Intercept analysis linked the acebush1 Reddit account to Bushnell by analyzing his social media activity. In a post on Facebook the same day as his self-immolation, Bushnell had posted a link to the video streaming platform Twitch with the username LillyAnarKitty. Using a Twitch username history tool that identifies a user’s prior account names, The Intercept found that the same Twitch User ID number used by LillyAnarKitty previously employed the handle acebush1.
A Reddit user with the same username — acebush1 — posted over a thousand times since 2014. The Reddit posts mention details that align closely with Bushnell’s life, including being in the Air Force, having a friend who was a conscientious objector, and studying computer science.

Just out of curiosity does discussion of Bushnell and his background fit within the aims of this channel?
Couple of people have posted about it, I think it's fine -- I don't know the details of the case but it seems related to the conflict, so I think it's alright
If there turns out to be a huge deep dive into him in particular, it may be a good idea to just set up a forum post so that the channel stays clear for daily developments from the conflict
Was just confused because I've been told before that events related to but outside of the conflict (happenings in the US specifically that don't involve policy makers directly effecting the conflict) belong in a different channel vs this one
Sure, I mean, it's a judgement call. Usually, if a topic comes up in a channel and it's only 2-3 posts, that's fine. But if the conversation overtakes the purpose of the channel, then a forum post is warranted. Anyone can set up a forum post, so it's up to you.
If you or anyone wants to set up a forum post for the Bushnell discussion to keep that convo going, I think that's a good idea

Israeli security minister barred after sensitive information leaks
From telegraph.co.uk
https://t.co/IJtPGDvlrN Sandbagger_01
They're still calling it Defeat ISIS campaign? Has there been a single strike against ISIS targets this year?
This report is inaccurate. Not that the actual reports by Haaretz are any less worrying, however there are a few important precisions to be made:
- Ben Gvir wasn’t barred from these briefings, the Shin Bet and the National Security Council (NSC) decided not to send representatives to Ben Gvir’s own weekly situation assessments.
- The Telegraph is citing Haaretz as claiming he took photos of classified attendees but Haaretz reported that it was done by one of his associates.
- It’s also important to note that although his title (Minister of National Security, or Internal Security) is confusing, he is in fact not in charge of these two agencies. Both are under the Prime Minister’s Office (i.e. Netanyahu). In his ministerial authority Ben Gvir is in charge of the Israeli Police, Border Police and Prison Services.
Here are the two Haaretz reports on this topic: - 2 Mar, on the NSC decision: https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2024-03-02/ty-article/.premium/israels-national-security-council-halts-sending-representatives-to-meet-minister-ben-gvir/0000018e-00a6-da4e-adbf-82bf45e20000 (archived: https://archive.md/d9agD)

That's allfrom wikipedia and their source is one israelian page without a source. I digged into it. I digged into the mother company and the name. Maybe at one point it is enough.
I'm not here for a debate, I provided the links as asked. The moderators have always asked that when you post content by suspect sources, that said suspect sourcing should be highlighted to the server for the benefit of the community.
Also, Safa's twitter account in 2015: https://twitter.com/SafaPs/status/557803771754205185
Note that that morning (21st January), the 2015 Tel Aviv bus stabbing attack occurred, so that is the context of said tweet.
But sure, its just a regular news agency.
You said specifically that they were Hamas-affiliated. I just wanted to understand what that exactly meant and none of the sources you posted appear to explain what the basis for that is. You also cautioned against posting X user ytirawi's works a few weeks before he was published by Bellingcat. I'm just trying to make sure we aren't inadvertently poisoning the well when it comes to sources sharing first-hand victim and witness testimonies and evidence. Not here for a debate, just evidence for such claims.
You're happy with the sources I've provided?
And as for Younis Tirawi, I cautioned against him due to him posting stuff on his twitter. When that article was published, I reported said posts to Bellingcat staff as they were against the standards Bellingcat posts on their website, they were unaware of said posts, and I was thanked for letting them know. Feel free to ask them.
The sources you posted assert it is Hamas-affiliated but don't really explain how or why. As @valid sapphire says, the ultimate source of this claim appears to be an Israeli think tank. It's enough to claim they're pro-Hamas however.
Cool, in future, I'd suggest it would be good to note that Safa is at least openly pro-Hamas when their content is shared so, for the benefit of the community.
Also, a report written by Palestinian academic Atef T. Abu Saif, includes this passage:
https://repository.graduateinstitute.ch/record/12892/files/Media Study_ Zakat Committees 05062012.pdf (auto-download warning)
Note that since this report was published in 2012, Mr. Abu Saif became the Minister of Culture in the Palestinian Authority. I would suggest there's more to this Hamas connection/affiliation/support than trying to dismiss it as "just a claim by an Israeli think tank."

Now: Israeli forces demolish the entire Bedouin village of Wadi Khalil in the Negev/ Naqab leaving over 300 residents without any housing solution

Backstory of the demolition:
https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/389610
In short, an illegaly constructed Bedouin outpost, which is blocking the expansion of Highway 6, got demolished after a final supreme court judgement, following years of negotiations.
The inhabitants will be resettled in a nearby village and financially compensated for the structures lost.
Due to fighting to the bitter end [and possibly Ben Givier pushing for a quick enforcement of the court's decision], they have nothing at the moment until the compensation is realised.

- The United Nations seemingly halved the estimated number of women and children killed in Gaza, according to UN data published on May 6 and 8.
The UN also highlighted that the plurality of identified fatalities were men (40%), while children were (32%) and women (20%).
Royal Air Force completed its 11th airdrop this week, delivering a total of 110 tonnes of aid from 120 parachutes.

Do note these are still Gaza MoH numbers, they are just saying they haven't identified the bodies, which is to be expected. People are trying to spin up some story about the UN doing something, but the UN just published the MoH numbers. And the MoH still maintains the same ratio of men, women, and children, all this tells you is that the MoH hasn't identified most children
This a classic example of malinformation, they are using data to push a narrative that doesn't align with what the data actually is

I find it hard to believe that IDF knew of the attack but clumsilty failed to stop it. IDF is not clumsy. Netanyahu was in serious legal political and trouble prior to 10/7. This war put all that on hold. My working assumption is Netanyahu wanted all this to happen, which if true would make him even more heinous a war criminal than the ICC has charged him with. I believe Bush/Cheney knew 911 was coming and didn't stop it, for political reasons. There is plenty of evidence of that. Now Netanyahu seems to have adopted the same playbook. I am aghast that this man has been invited to address Congress.
I also suspect Israel allowed the music festival to occur so that the victims would be worldwide.
Regarding military intel - knowing something still means you need to interpret it properly. We don't know how the IDF's internal intel cycle works for us to comment on it
Regarding Bibi et. al - this is way beyond something that can be sourced and is very much in the realm of speculation
I couched my speculation as such.
https://www.businessinsider.com/israel-knew-hamas-plans-weeks-before-before-oct-7-report-2024-6?op=1
We want news here not speculation. Nobody comes to the bellingcat discord for these takes.
When police investigate a crime, do they only look at the clues? Or do they also look at possible suspects and their means, motive, and opportunity and then work backwards? The very word "suspect" implies speculation. Don't journalists have suspicions that they investigate? When I post things like this I guess I'm just hoping journalists will take it up as an area of investigation.
From #rules 10: ..."no one wants memes, opinions, unsourced posts...."
None of what the IDF knew or the US government knew is going to be found through open source information unless there is some kind of leak. We do open source work.

As a CNN War Reporter, Arwa Damon Thought She Had Seen Everything. Then She Went to Gaza
In the Syrian civil war she entered Homs through a sewer, and later witnessed the horrors inflicted by ISIS in Mosul. As a senior correspondent for CNN, Arwa Damon covered the worst war zones in the Mideast. But none was as scary as Gaza, which she visited as head of a humanitarian organization: 'I saw the death of the human soul'

In a unique collaboration, Forbidden Stories brought together 50 journalists from 13 media organizations around the world. The consortium analyzed nearly 100 cases of journalists and media workers killed in Gaza, as well as other cases in which Israel has allegedly targeted, threatened, or wounded members of the press over the past eight months. Unable to report freely from inside the Strip, consortium members remotely contacted over 120 journalists and witnesses to military activities in Gaza and the West Bank; consulted around 25 ballistics, weapons, and audio experts, including Earshot; and used satellite images from Planet Labs and Maxar Technologies.

CAIRO/GAZA, July 10 (Reuters) - An Israeli missile slammed into a tent encampment in southern Gaza on Tuesday just as displaced people had gathered to watch a football match at a school, eyewitnesses said on Wednesday.

I was just reading some articles on the genocide in Times of Israel. I was wondering how reliable the video it presents in this article might be? I don't expect accurate reporting from this outlet, but I would like to hear thoughts from more experienced folk https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/idf-wraps-up-raid-in-gaza-citys-shejaiya-neighborhood-says-it-killed-more-than-150-gunmen/
That article is just a summary of an IDF press release. There's no real independent reporting in that article. Both videos were released by the IDF. I haven't seen anyone geolocate the tunnel demolition yet, but there's also no way from that release to independtly verify that those pictures came from that tunnel system. The pictures of equipment seized in the tunnels, and the drone footage are consistent with previous equipment and video releases, and are what you'd expect to see though.

Disagreements over Israel's future military presence in Gaza and over Palestinian prisoner releases are obstructing a ceasefire and hostage deal, according to ten sources familiar with the round of U.S.-mediated talks that concluded last week.
The sources, who include two Hamas officials and three Western diplomats, told Reuters the disagreements stemmed from demands Israel has introduced since Hamas accepted a version of a ceasefire proposal unveiled by U.S. President Joe Biden in May.
All the sources said Hamas was especially concerned about the latest demand to keep troops deployed along the Netzarim Corridor, an east-west strip Israel cleared during the current war that prevents Palestinians' free movement between north and south Gaza, as well as in a narrow border strip between Gaza and Egypt known as the Philadelphi Corridor.

The Israeli Channel 14, a major incitement outlet which is often described as the Israeli Fox News, is at the center of a complaint filed a week ago by 3 Israeli Human Rights NGOs, comparing the TV channel to the notorious “Radio Rwanda”, after documenting hundreds of calls to commit war crimes, including genocide, since Oct 7.

At around 6:40 a.m., peacekeepers at the same position reported the firing of several rounds 100 metres north, which emitted smoke.
Despite putting on protective masks, fifteen peacekeepers suffered effects, including skin irritation and gastrointestinal reactions, after the smoke entered the camp. The peacekeepers are receiving treatment.
It's almost never chemical weapons and the burden of proof is pretty high for that.
(Afaik white phosphorus does not qualify as a chemical weapon)
It wouldn't surprise me if it was something similar to what riot police use based on the description.
my first thought is tear gas or something similar as the described symptoms are among those experienced by those on the receiving end of tear gas, though as @grand fiber points out the burden of proof is very high and these are not the only symptoms

A massacre in Jabalia |
Israeli troops attacked Abo Hussein UN school in Jabalia RC filled with displaced families.
At least 10 killed and many injured
Back in November, same school was bombed murdering 27 people
During IDF operations in Gaza, 3 terrorists were eliminated. The IDF and ISA are checking the possibility that one of the terrorists was Yahya Sinwar. At this stage, the identity of the terrorists cannot be confirmed.
In the building where the terrorists were eliminated, there
Israeli sources confirm that the body is that of Sinwar.

Live update: Senior Israeli official: High likelihood that terrorist killed by IDF is Hamas’s Sinwar https://t.co/g7zwiaRRd3
This is significant; I don’t recall an investigation being launched against a foreign IDF soldier before.

After my six-month long investigation into the Israeli sniper death squad, the Belgian Federal Public Prosecutor has decided to launch a criminal investigation against a Belgian-Israeli soldier who is a member of the sniper team “Refaim” or the Ghost Unit.
Pretty much every twitter thread on it I've seen has the uncensored image being posted in the replies.
yeah the first reports was photo has face features like sinwar in militant clothes. seems they found him by luck after clashes with 3 militants including him in rafah
I'm not surprised. Just an extra warning for everyone.
I open twitter and the first image
why would he participate in the fighting himself? is it some kind of a statement?
I'm inches away from just deleting my account on it at this point, the lack of controls or moderation is astounding
it's unclear exactly how much centralized control Sinwar has been able to exercise over what remains of Hamas mind you, the war has more or less reduced Hamas to a number of disorganized units fighting a mid-level insurgency, so whether or not he is killed, or whether he was fighting himself or not, changes the operational or strategic situation little
I disagree, Sinwar held a crucial leadership role within Hamas, acting as both a symbolic and authoritative figure. His position was deeply significant not just in a military sense but also politically, especially following Haniya's assassination, which led to Sinwar's appointment as chairman of the political bureau. His loss could lead to a major power vacuum, affecting both internal authority and the broader political strategies of Hamas.

Live update: Report: IDF troops didn’t realize Sinwar was in Gaza building that they struck https://t.co/Gsd1PdFbGL
Furthering this, there's also the chance of the power vacuum creating an internal fight for control.
This is obviously speculative.
Now- I personally don't think he was killed by a bullet.
Not sharing the image of the body for obvious reasons- but it's covered in dust, looks half buried, and the wound to his head is extensive and suggests something hit him in the back of the head at a very fast velocity and just went straight through. (I believe we're looking at a very extensive exit wound.)
There is also a similar wound on his left leg- around the knee area, looks like it also went back to front.
I would lean towards him dying in an explosion- probably an air strike. could be a tank round in theory but I doubt that, probably would have a photo of a tank in the area if that was the case.
Source of quote below- https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/hamas-leader-yahya-sinwar-israel-investigating-dead-rcna175892
There is potentially a grenade in his lap? There's something there. If the shrapnel was slightly different and didn't put one to the back of his head he might have resisted any level of arrest/ detainment- but given how none of these wounds seem self inflicted- leaning towards a very quick if not instantaneous death.- The leg wound alone would have incapacitated him for sure.
Photo of the scene- only showing the questionable object- no obvious injury in photo- but it is on a corpse so it gets the NSFW spoiler tag.
Additional items around that caught my eye- #1- another angle of the unknown object, #2- A partially buried handgun infront of the body,
Same warning as above for image #1.
it's possible but I think it's still too early to tell. ballistics shows that exit wounds are generally greater than entry wounds, and depending on range and caliber they can have significant effects. additionally, I think this analysis discounts the wide variety of other high powered weapons available to the IDF capable of generating this level of destruction, such as 40mm grenade launchers, and anti tank munitions such as the M72 and MATADOR which the IDF has used extensively in Gaza. either way, I think there's too little info to say that an airstrike killed him, it could've been through any number of methods
Yeah i'm leaning towards explosion more than bullet overall given the state of the scene.
A little more detail...
The forces of the 828th Bislamach Brigade suspected that terrorists were in a building in Tel Sultan, West Rafah.
A tank from the 30th (ל) Company of the Tank Commanders Course (195th Battalion, 460th Brigade) fired at the building.
After that, the infantry forces of the 450th Battalion raided the building and carried out searches inside, where his body was located.

I don't understand the logic of this. Does this mean the IDF knew that those specific hostages were with Sinwar the whole time? (That is, you can only consider them "shields" if you know they're there, and you're choosing not to fire on the target because the shields are in the way.) I am skeptical of this. TBH it reads like a retcon to counter the valorous way he died.

In the coming hours, the Nehala movement will hold an event advocating for the resettlement of Gaza. Israel's finance minister is en route to the event, where he has signaled support not only for resettling Gaza but also for areas in Lebanon. Notably, the Nachala movement was recently sanctioned by the UK government. The minister wrote:
"I am on my way to the settlement conference organized by the Nachala movement. This conference aims to express our aspiration to establish a Jewish, Zionist, and pioneering settlement in the Gaza Strip after its liberation from the Nazi regime of Hamas-Daesh. First, because it is part of the Land of Israel, and second, because without settlements, there is no security. This is one of the clear lessons from October 7th and the Iron Swords War we have been fighting in Gaza and Lebanon for the past year. The reality shows that every place we abandon becomes a terrorist base for Iran, strengthening elements that aim to harm us. From our experience, we cannot maintain a long-term military presence in places without civilian settlements.
In South Lebanon, where there were no civilian settlements, only a military presence, organizations like Four Mothers pressured the army to leave. This led to Hezbollah's strengthening with a vast arsenal of missiles, tunnels, and anti-tank capabilities, posing a significant threat to us until a month ago. We retreated from the Gaza Strip, uprooting thriving settlements and agriculture, allowing Hamas to rise—and we all know how that ended."

15m is extremely deep for a hole that fits 130 people. That's not possible to dig without specialised equipment in any acceptable timescale, needs wall reinforcement or very shallow angled sides to not immediately collapse in Gaza 's soil and is far in excess of what is needed to keep someone from escaping.
To get some relatable scale reference: 15m is about 6 merkava tanks stacked on top of each other(without cope cages) .The claim is either massively exaggerated or completely made up.
I don't think any part of the claim was that the hole was dug recently. Many reasons why there could be a deep hole.
It is most likely just an area surrounded / partly surrounded by berms, and a chain of broken reporting.

On Monday, the Ministerial Committee on Legislative Affairs in Israel will review a bill proposed by Coalition Chairman MK Ofir Katz (Likud) to amend the Basic Law: The Knesset and the Knesset Election Law. The amendment seeks to broaden the grounds for disqualifying candidates or lists from elections, limit the Supreme Court’s role in approving disqualifications, and appears specifically aimed at Arab parties. Many see the bill as a way for the current government to prevent Arab parties and candidates from participating in the elections.
The bill focuses on Section 7A (A3) of the Basic Law: The Knesset, which currently allows the Supreme Court to disqualify candidates or lists that express "support for an armed struggle" by an enemy state or terrorist organization against Israel. Katz’s proposal would expand the definition of "struggle" to include acts by individuals without organizational ties and broaden "support" to cover one-time expressions of solidarity. The amendment also proposes that any joint party list with a disqualified component would be barred from running.

Elad Goren, a senior COGAT official, said last week that aid delivery and distribution in the north has been mainly confined to Gaza City.
When asked why aid was not being delivered to other parts of the north — like Jabaliya, a crowded urban refugee camp where Israel is staging an offensive — he said the population there was being evacuated and those who remained had “enough assistance” from previous months.
In other areas like Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya, Goren claimed falsely that there was “no population” left there.

It found that Israel has presented little or even no evidence of a significant Hamas presence in those cases. The AP presented a dossier listing the incidents reported by those it interviewed to the Israeli military spokesman’s office. The office said it could not comment on specific events.

Nevermind looks like its solar panel station and the strike hit tents: https://x.com/AnasAlSharif0/status/1856663480813637742
Should be this strike here, you can see the solar panels on the left side of the picture. https://x.com/IDF/status/1856808402447368545

As Gaza’s hunger crisis worsens, organized gangs are stealing much of the aid Israel allows into the enclave, operating freely in areas controlled by the Israeli military, according to aid group officials, humanitarian workers, transport companies and witnesses.
Officials said criminal looting has become the greatest impediment to distributing aid in the southern half of Gaza, home to the vast majority of displaced Palestinians. Armed bands of men have killed, beaten and kidnapped aid truck drivers in the area around Israel’s Kerem Shalom crossing, the main entry point into Gaza’s south, aid workers and transport companies said.
The thieves, who have run cigarette-smuggling operations throughout this year but are now also stealing food and other supplies, are tied to local crime families, residents say. The gangs are described by observers as rivals of Hamas and, in some cases, they have been targeted by remnants of Hamas’s security forces in other parts of the enclave.

A new documentary on Israel's national broadcast channel about plans to re-settle the Gaza Strip. It shows Israeli settlers taking their children to the Gaza border to view the ruins of Palestinian homes.
These innocent kids are victims of their parents' dangerous occupation ideology—may God save them from this toxic indoctrination.
