Al Jazeera is reporting that there has been an air strike in the West Bank
Wow
seem to have either been a highly targetted/precision airstrike or part of a larger op
The account of the family who was able to stop the fire from entering the safe room is the most metal thing I have ever heard in my life. Wow I would not be that smart under pressure
Yep. I guess most of the safe rooms weren’t really safe rooms but more bunkers since they don’t lock from the inside and are more for rocket and mortar attack protection. It’s also the first time I saw survivors referencing the attackers might have been using amphetamines or other narcotics. The attackers also brought camera equipment and documented the entire massacre. So if anyone encounters anything regarding this particular attack location please take care
Anyone noticing that US Navy plane in a holding pattern off the coast of Israel/Lebanon/Cyprus?
yeah, a P-8 Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft, probably tracking naval and air movements on the Israel/Lebanon border to support Israeli operations I believe
similar mission profile to the maritime surveillance the US Navy has been carrying out regularly on the Black Sea
I've understood that the idf found cocaine and other drugs on dead hamas terrorists
Do you have any evidence for that claim?
I'll check who posted about it
it seems to be a video of israeli civilians that are going thru cars used by the terrorists
the man in the video is saying "we found a truck of this (referring to hamas) with lots of equipment and cocaine"
it was also reported by n12 according to maariv that many terrorists took captagon

It is indeed graphic.
Can you please clarify what this specifically contributes to the discussion?
I thought it might be useful to researchers here is all but can delete if you don't think it's relevant.
Egyptian media report second convoy of 17 aid trucks has entered Gaza through Rafah crossing

cocaine does not seem plausable
No, it’s more likely as shared before, captagon.
A peer raised a good point that the article discusses the forensics process. And I agree. Since it goes into the more clinical aspect, versus being simply graphic content for biasing or persuading, it makes sense to keep.
Thank you for sharing it. I agree that it could be useful for other researchers as you intended.
Captagon is highly plausible given the previous history of abuse by combatants in ME
Military s use of amphetamines and co is ww known. Cocaine, agree, doesn't make sense
Not strictly airstrike related so I thought I would put it here: a gigantic smoke cloud on the lebanese border:

Hey Chris, this is for breaking news, can you put this in #israel-palestine thanks!
confirmation from the IDF itself now
The people who found it may not know the difference. Chris mentioned captagon, way more likely it’s that or a derivative. Here’s some context on that narcotic. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/04/10/middleeast/syria-drugs-bargaining-chip-mime-intl/index.html
Thanks, I don't know anything about this
It described it as a “financial lifeline” for Assad that is “worth approximately three times the combined trade of the Mexican (drug) cartels.” WHAT
Narcotics are big business all over the world. Especially when a country is sanctioned.
Yea it’s one of the main income streams for the Assad regime.
Yep. DPRK does the same (censored the article to stop embed since it's a derail, nothing explicit there) ||https://dw.com/en/north-korea-ramps-up-manufacture-of-illegal-drugs-amid-sanctions/a-40169753||

It seems twitter/X is also censoring some accounts as here is reported by Pal_ActionUS https://twitter.com/Pal_ActionUS/status/1716205445323378699?t=74IQ5y56YI9d5f5jgwRE8Q&s=19
That's just the nature of software being flakey. As far as I recall there has never been other case of not allowing you to follow someone on Twitter/X.
Or it could be a simple follow bait. The account went from 6k followers to 15k followers since 6h ago.
I'd seen previous (unrelated) allegations of large accounts losing followers. Only saw two accounts I followed where for unexplained reasons I was no longer (appeared as suggestions).
There are some whose numbers suddenly drop in single digit thousands but nothing to causally suggest how or why.
Bots getting banned usually.
I'm not sure but it does also appear they may be shadow banned, if you try searching the username in the search bar it doesn't appear in the preview pane
obviously, you'll just have to trust I haven't altered this image. Try it for yourself
Their follower count has increased from around 15k to 26.6K in the past hour or so though, and it says they joined october 2023 so it could just be some kind of discovery limit on X's side
But like @wicked nimbus I'm unsure on if it's a bug or not
there was that issue of likes disappearing on Pekka's vatniksoup on Elon Musk. I don't think there was a comment from Twitter on what has happened there. It can be easily explained by bugs in spam/bots detection system or something like that
Ok you're right about the search suggestion ban, I've tried it myself.
right, the search suggestion ban makes it seem slightly more likely that this is a targeted thing
for two things to break on this specific account is unusual, well aside from the fact that it's twitter post Musk
true, but spam/bot detection may also trigger shadow banning. bugs and stupidity is often a more likely explanation than conspiracy
This video jumps from day to night abruptly a few minutes before the time you mentioned. I know where the camera is in the day footage. The night part may be from the same place. Some here have voiced that we shouldn't reveal those locations here. I will differ to to the concensus on whether I should say.
FWIW if there's a chance that by revealing the location of the camera we are putting someone at risk, Bellingcat won't publish it. We'd also consider if by revealing the location we risk the authorities shutting down the feed.
Mum am I then.
Ok, thanks for info and thoughtful considerations. I've found couple sync points for Al-Ahli related events in that footage (N12 / k1 explosion and the intercept missile explosion), but without coordinates I'm not sure that would be very useful.
Others have located these cameras. Just be sure to verify on you own when you see someone claiming where these locations are that things line up; there are quite a few folks out there peddling bunk ass geolocations.
i send him here, i didnt know that
My first hot take on where this camera was is bunk for instance.
Yes, however Instagram and tiktok are actively censoring Palestinian content. So it's not so conspiratorial to think this could be happening to activists accounts on X. Could @orchid nymph_ActionUS follower X count be much higher in case that wasn't happening, or does it represent the amount of people who tried to follow the account? If there are ways to check that somehow... ?
Is there any evidence of targeted censorship that cannot be explained by an attempt to prevent the spread of graphic content?
There is the case of changing the translation on IG's bio which had already been posted here. That is not censorship, but it shows targeting specific accounts. Reports of censorship have not been proven but they are being discussed a lot on these platforms as far as I can see from browsing (many complaints of shadowbanning on IG and educational content on tiktok being removed -I'll see if I find again the specific cases). Could be to prevent spread of graphic content in some cases, but that's not public information either as far as I know ? https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/oct/20/instagram-palestinian-user-profile-bios-terrorist-added-translation-meta-apology
I don't think the example you're listing can be considered evidence of targeting specific accounts. Neural machine translation can fail in bizarre ways when prompted with specific phrases. This is especially the case for languages that have been underrepresented in the training data.

Everytime I look at the account the follow could is wildly different. Y'day it was 1k this morning it was 8k and now it's showing me 2k. But it has kept my follow for them. But honestly since Elon took over I've noticed only the latest version of the app is "reliable" and I don't have that version.

Regular and reserve IDF soldiers are conducting a series of trainings in order to improve the readiness and competence of the forces to maneuver in the Gaza Strip. The fighters and commanders, who arrived determined and highly motivated, train in brigade combat teams, which combine infantry forces, armor and other units in a number of patterns and in different scenarios.
At the same time, today in the early hours of the morning, additional cream vests were distributed to the reserve forces. So far, over ten thousand cream vests have been distributed and the IDF continues the procurement process.
These days, squadron commanders are meeting with division and brigade commanders in order to tighten cooperation between the air and ground forces. In these meetings, they delved into the descriptions, axes and the significant interface points, in order to ensure optimal cooperation. The forces also practiced the operational plans together.```

The IDF SOF has been carrying out limited raids into Gaza almost every other day. I'm told there are multiple such raids taking place tonight as well. But a couple of sources tell me tonight's raids look a bit different. Let's see.
"We are devastated to have received the news yesterday of the loss of our dear friend, respected collaborator and co-founder of Ain Media, Rushdi al-Sarraj, killed by a reported airstrike on his family home in Gaza City."
Oh that's terrible
Shielding his wife and daughter as well. Just terrible.
Just for additional info whilst the FA tweet says that there was an Israeli airstrike on his family home, the AJ comments from his father made it sound as if he was hit by shrapnel during heavy bombardment of the Tel al-Hawa neighbourhood. Unclear whether it was a direct strike on the property.
Roshdi Sarraj is now among at least 23 journalists killed since October 7, as he tried to protect his family.

its WIP, not a finished product. wondering if anyone's done this in the public domain yet
Thanks for linking his account. I noticed one of the "regular" You Tube account that mirrors streams had his feed for a little bit recently.
I can't see all the words on your map and I'm not sure what categories you are putting on it. Looks like you are dividing it between pro Israel and pro Palestine but then I see red circles for countries and then I see websites and then I see terms so it's really confusing to me without a description. I'm also wondering what your rationale is for placing certain terms/countries/websites in whatever place you have them. For example, why is Ukraine on the pro Israel side? What is your definition of "cyber actors" ? What data did you review to pull from to make this map?
Ah i just roughly networked the attributes of a scrape i did of articles on keywords related to the conflict from come CTI platforms.
See relevant discussion about this new NYT analysis in #1164615723755241472 https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/24/world/middleeast/gaza-hospital-israel-hamas-video.html
Grey nodes are various cyber threat actors, red are countries they are affiliated with. So with ukraine there’s a actor based or associated with ukraine who are doing pro israeli operations. Not that the state/government of ukraine is necessarily pro Israeli.
Green nodes are keywords or URLs associated with the actors
Note that this is incomplete. It’s a draft of an idea, will look at building an exhaustive one post feedback
are you using in-degree to define node size?
Yep
could it be possible to share the sources ? thanks! great job!
Maybe create two separate versions of it? One that has the relationships defined and then a simplified version that has grouping boxes. I’m stating this from my i2 analyst notebook days.
I'm surprised that Australia isn't a node.

Israel has killed 50 hostages in Gaza via airstrikes (Al Jazeera). I'm curious if others have come across additional info on this?
Bellingcat and CIR in the news on CNN in an mixed media article Content Warning ⚠️ . The article ||https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2023/middleeast/hamas-attack-body-cam-videos-invs-dg/|| has video ||of militants being shot and likely dying, and also hostages being abused but the faces of the hostage are blurred|| but not bodies, etc. Good overview at explaining the propaganda angle Hamas is going for and changing nature of modern social media on these events. Dr. Gina Ligon's perspective is very interesting as well.
the voice calling "mom" (in hebrew) to lure victims is the most chilling thing i think i have ever heard.
I don't remember AJ reporting 50 hostages were executed. I also haven't heard any other reports either way, I'm not sure what evidence there is for anything other than the Hamas statement. The author of this article doesn't give any evidence either, aside for an overly general accusation that Hamas has a history of lying about this.
About the statement by the Gaza’s Ministry of Health that 471 were killed in Al-Ahli hospital explosion - is it known if that statement was only about killed in the hospital explosion, or about all the (not less than) 15 strikes that happened ~7 minutes before and 11 minutes after the hospital explosion?

Ground operations expanding in Gaza, Israel Defense Forces announced
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Friday that they are "expanding ground operations" in the Gaza Strip, according IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari.
The announcement comes as CNN reports a large series of explosions rocked Gaza City on Friday night.

Let's not start this type of commentary. It gets hard to draw a line.
It's difficult to be numb when we are witnessing a genocide.
Please do not use this kind of language. The term genocide is a specific legal construct which may or may not be applicable here. So please don't.
I will continue to use the term.
We've been very clear about not allowing this kind of commentary on the server. Linking to article discussing whether it constitutes genocide is different. But this way is not something we want to encourage.
So please follow this warning.
We are all trying our best to keep our personal opinions out of this, so I'd appreciate it if you extended the same courtesy to us.
This channel is for current events. Please post the article over in #israel-palestine.
Just to clarify, this reminder is about political commentary and opinions specifically, not about the particular choice of wording.

A USAF strike group w/ 900 troops have been sent to ME but the General speakings says "it's not related to what's going on w/ Israel" (Al Jazeera)
What’s the source on this? Wdym “USAF strike group”? Not exactly a term I’ve heard used.
United State Air Force
Yeah I know what USAF is
Al Jazeera English was airing a press conference of some US General who announced this.
But are we talking about an air wing? There’s no such thing as a “strike group” in the U.S. Air Force.
Any chance you could send a link? Would be interested to see. Plus is strange to be linking troop movements with the USAF.
Interesting I was also just watching a USAF plane on Fight Tracker which left from Germay and flew under the southern point of Israel and then up north through Jordan along the border. Then I closed out the tab and when I reopened it, it wasn't listed as the #1 top watched flight anymore. Maybe a glitch on my end not to be able to pull it up again.

So maybe if you went back 25 minutes or so-
Thx. Just a bit cautious as there was a lot of noise about US troop deployment today on X and it was an old video of the 101st in Romania.
Will check CENTCOM also, if there’s troop reassignment either from other COCOMs or within the AOR it should be listed there.
idk what that is but sounds good
Deploying units include THAAD/PATRIOT/AVENGER batteries being assigned to CENTCOM in the Middle East. All of these are Air Defense units. Key quote is:
"I won't talk specific deployment locations for these forces, I can confirm that they are not going to Israel," Ryder said. The units and personnel are intended to support regional deterrence efforts and further bolster U.S. force protection capabilities."
Presumably bolstering force protection capabilities after the Missile attacks on US/Coalition bases and troops in Iraq and Syria recently and increasing air defense in case of further attacks.
Ah, yes it was this guy speaking: Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder
Also this: Ryder confirmed that the United States is sending two U.S. Iron Dome systems to Israel to help further bolster air defense capabilities and protect citizens from rocket attacks.
Yep
This is a very explicit call for ethnically cleansing the entirety of Gaza, from the former head of Israel's National Security Council
https://www.ynetnews.com/article/sju3uabba
the second option is to create conditions where life in Gaza becomes unsustainable
The entire population of Gaza will either move to Egypt or move to the Gulf.
As a result, Gaza will become a place where no human being can exist, and I say this as a means rather than an end. I say this because there is no other option for ensuring the security of the State of Israel. We are fighting an existential war
seems theyre laying down every option on the table for how they want to deal with this situation
dealing in absolutes like this won't make Hamas go away
Crazy that they haven't figured this out by now with generations of vengeance fighters.
The Israeli calculus might be that a highly radicalized population with no state capabilities might be better than a moderately radicalized population with a functioning political system
I'm not sure how that eliminates the threat of Hamas or PIJ or any other future group

Journalist Rushdi Abualouf was able to get a message out of Khan Younis, posted on BBC live feed just over an hour ago:
“There was a huge bombardment in the north of Gaza strip on a scale we’ve never seen before.
Huge flames could be seen rising into the sky – it seemed they were using different types of bombs.
At the hospital here ambulance drivers told me they couldn’t communicate with anyone, so they were just driving in the direction of the explosions.
There’s been panic everywhere, even here in Khan Younis, where the bombing was less, as people try to reach family members in other areas to check they are safe, but the phones have been cut off.
It’s total chaos.”
Glad that some news is able to get out, even if it’s only staff from major news organisations who have the equipment required to do so.

could you edit in what the link is content noted for?
What ada said. If you spoiler a link and don't say why, you are still asking people to click on it blind. You have to describe what it is.
Oh, sorry yes
The coverage as far as I saw was entirely objective, claims were reported and context was given to those claims. The past couple of days have seen a slew of articles that mischaracterize the situation, preying on mistrust of the media to push an agenda.
I'll be ready to eat my words when we see a response like this to inflammatory and unsubstantiated claims from the IDF and israeli government.
I was watching Al Jazeera English just after the strike on the hospital and in the frantic aftermath it seemed like there were a mixture of x00 'casualties', and then x00 'deaths' being quoted. I sort of discounted it and assumed that later the 500 dead number was presented by some more official source, but looking back I wonder whether the '500 dead' just came out of that messy moment when everyone was digging around in the dark trying to figure out what had just happened.
My perception is mostly the same. 'in-the-moment' reporting tended to be rash, unreliable and make predictable faux pas, but most reliable news sources reporting briefly afterwards tended to hedge heavily rather than push any specific angle.
Israelis chanting “Death to Arabs” in Netanya and trying to break down gate to attack Palestinian students.

Israeli settlements are also technically not Israeli territory hence why they are referred to as "illegal settlements." They are continued land grabs.
How far do the seetlements extend into Gaza?
They don't. Not as we know Gaza today.
Raids have been ongoing continuously for the past few days so I wonder exactly when this image was taken, whether it’s extremely recent or a few days old

This is a good convo for DMs, please keep this channel to sharing breaking news
I don't think looking at these individual incidents is very helpful for understanding the conflict. We keep seeing individual incidents of anti-Palestinian and anti-Israeli/Jewish crowds. We know there is mutual hate. So what does looking at these incidents add to the conversation? Tracking larger-scale trends would obviously be a different story.
Silo'ing convos in DMs cuts out lurkers, who often can learn a lot from what others say. Is there a public place to discuss and analyze issues? alright, what appears to be more images of IDF ground operations in northern Gaza are coming in. not sure of the veracity of some of the below images so some geolocation would be awesome. however I can say for a fact that the lower right image is in Gaza and not only that, but is in As-Siafa near the coast as the house with the Israeli flag on its roof we discussed yesterday is in the background
https://vxtwitter.com/manniefabian/status/1718852488349036784?s=20
I'm most curious about this particular image as it appears to be facing north with the coast to the left hand side. however on the left you can see a major paved road lined with palm trees along the coastline which I can't find near the established penetration at As Siafa, which only has unpaved roads along the coast. if this images is indeed within Gaza, I'm really not sure where it's taken and what it says about the depth of Israeli penetrations

Phone and internet services down in Gaza city as per Al Jazeera live feed (linked above, don’t want to spam the channel with long messages)
If the above geolocation is correct in respects to the tanks cutting the road at Al Mughraqa, this lines up with predictions that the Israelis would advance along the relatively rural and flatter terrain of Wadi Gaza to bisect the strip north and south, isolating the city before moving in. The cutting of the Salah Al Deen road supports this
Israel will most likely breach the Gaza Strip at Wadi Al Quatrun, take Al Mughraq and set up a defense before entering Gaza City in strength.

Karni Netzarim junction is here: 31° 27′ 55″ N, 34° 25′ 36″ E. This lines up with the footage above and appears to place the tanks at Al Mughraqa and not Zaytoun as initially reported. As a historical note the Netzarim junction was the sight of a major suicide bombing against the IDF back in 1994

If this is indeed just a raid it is far reaching, I don’t see why the Israelis would suddenly retreat. Perhaps they repositioned their tanks and Hamas immediately used that to claim victory as they are wont to do, but that’s just speculation. Either way, visual evidence is always best
as might be expected, the IDF has refused to confirm the presence of tanks on the SAD road citing OPSEC, but did claim that they were employing full combined arms forces including infantry, tanks, artillery and engineers into Gaza which lines up with the types of vehicles we've seen breaching the border https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-middle-east-67258466?ns_mchannel=social&ns_source=twitter&ns_campaign=bbc_live&ns_linkname=653f78608ae7803bb6845a3c%26Israeli military won't say if tanks have blocked key Gaza road%262023-10-30T10%3A15%3A15.189Z&ns_fee=0&pinned_post_locator=urn:asset:3c32cfc0-ed0f-4fa0-86f3-81762aff45f9&pinned_post_asset_id=653f78608ae7803bb6845a3c&pinned_post_type=share

as to be expected Israel is employing their best Merkava 4Ms, Namer heavy APCs and other high protection combat vehicles into Gaza, likely in anticipation of intense urban combat with light Hamas forces probably armed with all manner of RPGs, ATGMs and drones. Of note is that most of the Merkavas in the above footage have been fitted in "cope cages" in response to the drone threat which I'd expect to be significant
WaPo article discussing the current Gaza assault: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/29/israel-ground-war-gaza/
i sent a message in #bombs-arms-drones-other-killing-machines where it seems like the eitan is employed too - the namer is also key for urban combat operations with the heavy armor
the Eitan's brand new isn't it? will be interesting to see how it performs
Yes, I can confirm that this happened.
Raids have lately been ramping up in the West Bank lately.

it's somewhat surreal how anyone from across the world with an internet connection can watch an armoured assault on a city in real time
Absolutely wild. And it must trigger some weird evolutionary survival thing because honestly, I’ve barely been able to think about anything else for the past three weeks. We are not wired for this.
the dozers in question are highly likely to be the Caterpiller D9 specifically designed for urban operations
they're continuing to move back and forth on the same axis on the stream, probably conducting some sort of earth moving and clearing operation for follow on forces

every media outlet has a bias and an agenda
I don't think this is the best way to analyze news sources. I've seen way too many people fall into conspiracy rabbit holes with this sort of thinking.
Some news sources have tried to present information objectively, whether they succeed or not is reliant on other factors (like the experience of their reporters). Other outlets just flat out lie and have a history of purposely being dishonest.

Tonight, the female soldier Col. Uri Magidish was released, during a ground operation, after she was kidnapped by the terrorist organization Hamas on 7/10.

Is there more information about this? I wonder if it should be put in dis-info given the potentially unreliable information being reported.
pinging you also since you are looking into it
Mixed info include "body ||found||" vs. ||skull ||found vs. ||piece of the back of a skull|| found
the full information was that it was the piece of the back of a skull "which a human being can't survive without" leading to the confirmaiton she's dead
"A cousin of Louk's said that the family received an official notice from the IDF and ZAKA that a bone from ||the base of Louk's skull|| had been found matched with Louk's DNA. Doctors determined that a person cannot live without the bone found and concluded that Louk could not possibly still be alive." The statement here from what doctors allegedly reported as printed in J Post gives special reason to investigate the validity of the claims.
i think this is pretty conclusive evidence and the only way to get more data would be by analyzing bone fragments ourselves
It's not conclusive to me, especially in light of the previous reporting about her which is why I suggest it might warrant exploration in #dis-info.
If we're gonna discuss this, probably better to move it to #israel-palestine
For example, which is it: Was her|| whole body|| found, or|| just her skull||, or ||just the one fragment from her skull||.
The reporting I’ve seen mentions finding the skull fragment, as cited by jpost
Her family absolutely should have an independent forensic test.
German media are calling it an ||inner skull bone fragment||.
regardless - i don't think we have access to nearly enough information to analyze this, which is why i think it's not a relevant point for discussion
And with DNA evidence, this is pretty conclusive evidence of death. Unless we have any reason to assume that the Israeli government is lying to the family here, we should assume that the reports are correct.
Why? Do you imply that the skull fragment is not hers?
I've been seeing multiple different versions of the skull fragment story on twitter, and I can already tell this is the next massive misinfo wave
I'm suggesting that the Israeli government is not a reliable source and it might warrant an independent investigation. While this might not be my skill set or yours, it is absolutely a doable thing by someone and yes, even possibly by someone reading these messages in this server.
He changed his username, will update link
According to her family in (trustworthy) german media a skull fragment was found. So she was already dead in that video. Her body is not recovered and she also was not || beheaded|| . Some Israeli sources claimed she was ||beheaded || but deleted their tweets. I believe it was a honest misunderstanding by them.
||Regarding statements by Israeli President Izchak Herzog in Bild that Shani Louk had been beheaded, his spokesman said when asked: "The fact that a significant part of her skull was found triggered fears that she had been beheaded."||
https://www.tagesschau.de/ausland/asien/shani-louk-104.html
Yeah but that is just wrong, in the video, which was filmed in Gaza, she has a head wound, ||but her head is definitely still there.||
Yes, but this is a description of where the claims originated.
Quite the thing, that her mother was seemingly better informed and articulate about the whole thing than the Israeli government
This is getting quite off-topic, but the mother is much more likely to have seen the video than the president.
If this document is legit, the official position of Israel's Ministry of Intelligence is ethnically cleansing all of Gaza.
https://www.mekomit.co.il/המסמך-המלא-של-משרד-המודיעין-כיבוש-עזה-ו/
Context from the article:
The existence of the document does not necessarily indicate that its recommendations are being considered by the security system. Despite its name, the Ministry of Intelligence is not responsible for any intelligence body, but independently prepares studies and policy papers, which are distributed for review by the government and security bodies but are not binding on them. The annual budget of the office is about NIS 25 million and its influence is considered relatively small.
(for the people only reading the headline)
horrible optics regardless of its implementation.
Regardless, I think it's significant that members of a government are discussing ethnic cleansing as a serious policy. And it's similar to previous statements from former government officials.
Definitely agreed.
Because let's be clear on this, phrases like "forced transfer of population" are a polite way of saying "ethnic cleansing".
If you listen to the rhetoric coming out of the Israeli contingent at the UN it paints a very stark us vs them mentality particularly the usage of Nazi allegories and the israeli delegation wearing the yellow star of David. [they make it very clear a two state solution cannot work] IMO its all driven by hatred on BOTH sides

Anybody know if there are ties behind Calcalist and Mekomit?
Also overall wonder how much of this plan is a concrete thing - it doesn't seem like it's plausible in reality (either Israel has to convince Egypt to host 2 million refugees or Israel conquers the Sinai again - which doesn't change the status quo)
I would agree that it’s concerning that it’s an option at all - it most definitely should not be considered and it’s incredibly worrisome that there are those in positions of power who are raising this as an option. But it’s worth noting that the intelligence ministry does not make these decisions and it was one of a number of proposals - so I’m not sure it’s fair to say that the policy is the official position of the ministry of intelligence.
Quote from Haaretz who first reported on the document:
The Intelligence Ministry confirmed the existence of the document, but a source familiar with the drafting of it said the cabinet isn’t expected to debate the proposal and that the Intelligence Ministry is not the government entity that would be responsible for such decision-making.
Plus (and a little bit of analysis/speculation here) politically it would likely be untenable/incur huge costs. Egypt would not allow it and could militarise the border to prevent this from happening. Plus the US - both Biden and Blinken - has made it very clear that it’s not an option.
Additionally, all bureaucracies/organisations have internal factions & the product is somewhat tailored to the demands of the consumer (ideally not too much). It’s not unheard of in organisations for there to exist internal pressure to include options which would otherwise be ignored to cater to fringe consumers, even though the options unlikely to be taken.
One thing worth contextualizing when it comes to FoPo analysis - a lot of scenarios get drawn up regardless of how likely they are to happen
It's why Brazil still regularly analyzes the likelihood of war with France or why the US had hypothetical plans for a land invasion of Canada
For all we know "some think tank proposed something absurd" and the gulf between that and whatever will happen is huge
It is certainly concerning, but I don't think it's a realistic thing

seems most of the public footage is coming from there. curiously we're seeing very little footage of the coastal penetration at As Siafa and nothing from the penetration along Wadi Gaza. perhaps the IDF regards these two prongs as very tactically important and so is unwilling to release footage publicly yet while the Beit Hanoun operation is a bit less critical and so the footage can go
as a side note, the Israeli soldiers in the footage are armed with the somewhat new X95 Micro-Tavor carbine which is mostly being issued to the best frontline units, indicating the quality of units being sent into Gaza as might be expected. second line and reserve units generally use much older M4s or other M16 type weapons

actually the micro tavor is only used by some regular infantry brigades like golani givati and nahal
givati is the infantry brigade currently "in charge" of and operating in gaza just because that's their area of operations (as opposed to kfir in Judea and Samaria and golani in the north/Lebanon)
basically all the special forces units use the m4 as well as some other infantry brigades
artillery and tank units and reserves usually have m16s
Definitely contributing to the fact that we’re seeing virtually nothing of what’s happening on the ground save for the IDF’s own public releases. Contrast this with the veritable flood of amateur and public footage in the early days of the invasion of Ukraine. The information blackout has been enormously beneficial to IDF ground operations and it has been very thorough
It's a powerful tool
the public footage from ukraine early on was odd to say the least, the idf keeps tight opsec because at the end of the day it's what is expected

Zionist forces brutally assault Orthodox Jews in the streets of Jerusalem for opposing genocide in Gaza. Haven’t seen this kind of state violence against Jews since Nazi Germany. Images like this destroy the myth that the State of Israel is Jewish.
@random birch could you spoiler that please, it's quite violent

I would guess that what is seen is soil being exposed below farmland
might be as simple as a old riverbed being exposed by fall, but is more likely from significant movement of peaple

yeah, I included vehicles in papule but you are absolutly right
Without looking at the context of the events, the interpretation of the events uses very politically charged language and is pretty absurd in its conclusion.
the true colour likely actually give the best illustration
right, you can clearly see it's not a river bed being exposed

This doesn't need much corroboration. This is the Mea She'arim neighbourhood of Jerusalem. They're hyper-orthodox anti-Zionist jews that fly the Palestinian flag. What you're seeing there is likely one of the many police operations into quelling these Pro-Palestinian displays (they seize the flag). This level of violence is common in this neighbourhood during the encounters.
Seems like @broken gorge disagree with the reason for that attack
also FFS if they feel the need to put down a that small protest that violently they really can't have any good reasons
Can we please not turn this into a debate? Thanks!
I don't disagree, I'm just expressing doubts about the comment attached to the video since we've seen similar videos for anti-haredi recruitment in the IDF
Not my intention
I just have no way to say ether way, and here we have two peaple that seem to disagree on what it was about and seem to have authority on the question so thought it would be best if they put their reasoning plain for everyoen to see
How about no?
ok
I will refrain from asking for substantiations of sources in the future then
That's fine, it's just not a place to settle your disagreements. You're welcome to take those to DMs though.
I don't and never had a disagreements in this question.
Also are "that's fine" suposed to be meant as a "don't ask peaple to substantiate sources" or is it meant as a "it is fine that you ask peaple to substantiate sources"?
The second one

Can someone share a good source for the number of killed Israelis since 7th October (including 7th October)? With the number of children killed and possibly a number of IDF soldiers killed.
This infographic https://www.unocha.org/publications/report/occupied-palestinian-territory/hostilities-gaza-strip-and-israel-reported-impact-6-november-2023-2359 from UN OCHA states that there are 31 children in 1135 identified killed out of ~1400 reported killed, and they attribute that number to "Israeli authorities" without any specifics, so, I have some doubts about those numbers.
You mean you wanna know which Israeli authority in particular released that figure? Or you want a figure from someone other than Israeli authorities?

Hamas got into a lot of military posts, correct? So I would expect a significant number of soldiers
Exactly what they penetrated and who was killed is still unclear to me.
Idk how the posted list compares to the Haaretz info. The posted list contains rank info for the shaded portion, unsure if that just means people who were active in IDF but on leave, IDF killed in the fighting, people who formerly served, etc. Also unsure if either list includes children.
How many names are listed in the image posted by Israel's Twitter?
Do those Kibbutz security forces made up of local residents fall under the IDF? Or are they an independent militia?
No idea honestly
Good question
That seems like an incorrect and misleading tweet because it's going by area, not number of names (when the names of military personal are often much longer), and it's selecting the entire second half of the list even though there appear to be many non-military names in that section
QNN is more propaganda/narrative shaper than journalistic
QNN is absolutely a Palestine aligned group. Although I wish you could have found a better source for that than the CS monitor lol

Appears to be the url for the PR CMS for the IDF.
Reports usually appear there before propagating through the system.
They'd been publishing ongoing lists of the names of deceased forces that were approved for publication.
Given that Israel has mandatory draft, people who formerly served would be the majority of the population, so not sure this would be saying much
I assume Haaretz is classifying people who were actively serving under "military". But don't know for sure. Would seem to defeat the purpose of the filter for them to include all who served under it.
Yes, the Haaretz filter probably includes active soldiers. But it does not show that the victim were mostly soldiers, as QNN claims
Post was deleted so can't refer to it. Idk if they said most [EDIT they do] they definitely framed it in a misleading way.
Huh, if we're talking about the post Research Enjoyer shared here, that doesn't show up as deleted for me.
Force closed/restart the app and I'm seeing it again. A block of messages weren't rendering for some reason
I mean the name of the network (Quds, or "holy") makes it clear that it's a religious Islamic or Islamist source, and in the Palestinian context it may also affiliate it directly to Hamas's military arm. It's also explicitly banned in the PA areas as an anti-Fatah and allegedly pro-Hamas source, and it has been previously banned by eg Twitter and TikTok for extremist content. So it's not just "Palestinian aligned", it's regarded and officially treated as an extremist source internationally and in Palestine.
FWIW influencers that at least I regard as having similarly strong leanings (like @Partisangirl) have posted up to 10 year old images of the rave massacre victims including Shani Louk during their conscript services, and suggested this made them military targets
The Haaretz filter is definitely for active duty soldiers (304).
Still a strange discrepancy in the Israeli casualty numbers: Haartz has 1142 ID'd folks but their list does not appear to have any children under about 12. The OCHA data says 31 children out of 1135 ID'd casualties. There's still this ~300 person discrepancy of unidentified people and it's been about the same for the last two weeks.
Would be helpful if anyone finds a text version of the image Israel posted (and quds highlighted)... just eyeballing, the names are all run together and include some lengthy titles like "COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR OFFICER <name>"
I'm starting to see that QNN gaining traction and being used to cast doubt on the scale of the tragedy on the 7th. It's very depressing. IDF and Israeli gov aren't reliable sources as far as I'm concerned but that doesn't mean a mass slaughter of civilians didn't happen. Don't have to resort to blatant misinformation to communicate the low point this is for humanity; there's enough horror all around.
don't have nitro but worry nod is very appropriate here
Just like with questioning Palestinian casualties, I really wish we could get out of this loop. Both IDF and Hamas have lied in the past, but we can all see very clearly there was a massacre on October 7th and there is a massacre going on now. It doesn't need to be a competition for people to see innocent people are dying and have died on both sides. (this is probably veering too into politics, but just wanted to highlight that I'm NOT trying to disprove Israeli casualties, just trying to get clarity)
Yeah I agree that I don't think we need to keep doing this. Let's just prove, disprove, or say we don't have enough information for each claim. Considering the source is one aspect, certainly, but open source research has always been about proving/disproving facts in spite of the messenger.
This should be applied to everyone - if I say something, check my work! Don't take my word. And do the same for every other claim out there.

Makes sense, because my video is daylight
Here's an edit from that video, with no sound, no blood, that shows the part of the video that shows the damage to the roof, which is the only visible blast damage I saw. If anyone has additional video that shows more of the specific structural damage, especially directly underneath the significant hole in the roof I'd appreciate it
another look at the roof damage, in a video from Saleh Aljafarawi shared on Telegram (quite graphic in parts)
Is there an explanation for so many tiny holes surrounding the large main hole?
Fragmentation from the munition that exploded. Looks like it hit the roof and detonated, and then shrapnel created additional holes in the roof, and created additional fragmentation.
