I have tried --progress=report. Makes it feel like the process is hanging because it waits till everything is complete to print it out. I feel like --progress=dots is a good intermediate option.

Good point about people not watching. I think I still like dots. Try that too.

we have places where logs are getting intermixed on jenkins, in some of the logging views, in other views jenkins separates them fine

lol, you can always set verbosity to -1
