I am using mac os with apple silicon. I had been using docker desktop since it was released, then moved to colima 2 years ago, and moved to OrbStack ~6 months ago. It's solid. Considering moving back to Colima at some point...

I'm not on a Mac. I'm using Ubuntu. But, I know Rancher Desktop is a great replacement for Docker Desktop in general. ๐Ÿ™‚ https://rancherdesktop.io/

#

It does Docker stuff like Docker Desktop too.

#

And you can choose between runtimes i.e. containerd or dockerd. I personally use containerd and have aliased nerdctl commands to docker commands.

#

Works like a charm. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into rancher desktop and colima.
I've been a longtime fan of podman on Fedora, but a few months ago ran into snags using it in place of Docker Engine on OS X.

Hi @wide mirage , @alpine raft , I'm going with orbstack right now because the onboarding experience is so nice... I'm going to see how far I can get before running into a problem.

@silent agate - Are you going to be working with k8s?

Good question @wide mirage , I tend to do all my k8s work on my homelab server (k3s on Fedora) because it has a lot of juice (40 threads / 128G ram)

#

but I'm prepping for my CKA so always happy to try new things, did you have something in mind?
