#What are the cool kids using these days

That's me ๐ Using Docker Desktop, but others are using https://github.com/abiosoft/colima, I hear (I've tried it), and some folks are using https://podman.io/. I wonder what else...
I am using mac os with apple silicon. I had been using docker desktop since it was released, then moved to colima 2 years ago, and moved to OrbStack ~6 months ago. It's solid. Considering moving back to Colima at some point...
I'm not on a Mac. I'm using Ubuntu. But, I know Rancher Desktop is a great replacement for Docker Desktop in general. ๐ https://rancherdesktop.io/
Open source desktop application that provides Kubernetes, Container Management, bundled utilities on the desktop
It does Docker stuff like Docker Desktop too.
And you can choose between runtimes i.e. containerd or dockerd. I personally use containerd and have aliased nerdctl commands to docker commands.
Works like a charm. ๐
Using orbstack here too. So much better than docker desktop memory/speed wise, tho not paying for it (yet?).
Colima I keep meaning to try.
Just got apple silicon and podman desktop has been great.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into rancher desktop and colima.
I've been a longtime fan of podman on Fedora, but a few months ago ran into snags using it in place of Docker Engine on OS X.
@silent agate - Do let us know where you landed. ๐
Hi @wide mirage , @alpine raft , I'm going with orbstack right now because the onboarding experience is so nice... I'm going to see how far I can get before running into a problem.
@silent agate - Are you going to be working with k8s?
