Install a non-vanilla launcher (I recommend https://prismlauncher.org/download/ - pick the download for your operating system), this will greatly simplify managing mods
Launch Prism and add a new instance
Select 1.20.1 in the version list (or 1.19.2 if you prefer)
Select Fabric as your mod loader, and select the starred version
Press "Ok" to create the instance
Select your instance and in the right sidebar press the "Edit" button
Select the "Mods" tab
On the right side, press the "Download mods" button
Select Fabric API (make sure it is the right version, 1.20.1 or 1.19.2) and press "Select mod for download"
Do the same with "Create Fabric" and "Create: Steam 'n' Rails"
Press "Review and confirm", then press "OK"
Wait for the mods to install and you should be good to press "Launch"

i got recomended by slimeist the prism, i can try modrinth but idk if i'll have the same starting issues
