Instead of having a separate block for each guage i would suggest adding a hotkey to change the guage of the train tacks

And allow for people to become more creative with different gauges

This would undermine the creation process of different gauges, since each one is differently expensive

But in automatic storage systems it would clog the system making it a lot more difficult to store the tracks

there should be an creative track which works like an train casing, press alt and select the track type with gauge and everything

we can like make a small item that when used on a hot key allows u to change the track type/gauge like in ars noveau when using a spellbook u can select a hotkey to load all the spells one by one

and it need not be worn by a player like a backpack

As I said previously, any way that allows changing up track gauges in survival undermines the process of creating the different rail distances. So I highly doubt we will see anything like this anytime soon. For everyday use, I see value in using the toolbox hotkey for changing track gauges. Either by needing to carry a toolbox with you and taking a couple stacks out at a time in survival, or using the gui for free access to the different gauges via the old radial menu.

Plus, you can give a conductor a toolbox and have it follow you around, removing the need to place down the toolbox and allowing you to just walk through the world at rail placing speed

by using the curios api and making support for a backpack like item

or we can make a block like compacting drawers that can make narrow or broad guage tracks or anyhow by putting a track in any of its slots it autimmatically can make other tracks based on the number u put in

for example in compacting drawers (which are from the storage drawers mod) if u put a gold block in it can make 9 ingots or 81 nuggets based on how much u put

My idea was that if we put 1 broad gauge track we could get 2 normal tracks and 4 narrow gauge tracks and we would still have access to the same track that we first put in

So we should only make one gauge of track to access all the others

These are compacting drawers from that mod

1 gold block 9 ingots and 81 nuggets and u can access all of them
