#A controls overhaul

What I'm proposing is a more user friendly, scalable and realistic train control system. This is a massive upgrade with a lot of complex features.

Let's start off with an ETCS OBU like interface to notify and take action on red signals and buffers. I think L2 or even L1 would be super fun!

Next up, power control. I think power should obviously be controlled by a power/brake handle that stays in position after it's been set. This would be a similar system to literally every gdammn modern train ever made.

But how do I keep speed? We have a free target speed system so the train does not go higher than it's supposed to. it also might slow down to reach that speed.

How do you go backwards then?! Well you do that with the reverser. It would control the direction of travel.

What value do these provide:

  • Easier adoption for people who have driven actual trains
  • coasting
  • You'd actually be able to drive in a more complex rail network with a lot of signals and trains
  • Way safer.

This could maybe be implemented with something like "Advanced Train Controls'

How exactly is this more user friendly than just WASD? I read this over like three times and I’m still confused

I mean, why can’t you just use the speed limiter that’s built in? If the argument is about people driving certain speeds at certain points, then we already can do that.
If the argument is about automated trains going certain set speeds, we can do that with waypoint stations too

I think that it's a good idea, but with a slightly "eh" explanation

#

You are currently explaining a simplified diesel-electric control system. Some things need to be taken into consideration with this, such as "not everyone actually runs trains" and "not everyone likes derail valley"

#

And for people who don't run trains or play DV, this system would probably be harder to understand.

#

I'm not saying it's bad, but that some things need to be taken into account

It's kinda similar to how DV diesel-electric works

#

Throttle, reverser, brake

#

Difference is a sander button and traction motor temperatures, although that last one doesn't do a lot now

Most people aren’t playing for realistic, they’re playing for crazy MC factories or building a fun train to go “wheeee”
Making a config would be a better option, but most likely not worth it for the devs
